1521  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BlueWallet Payjoin support (bip78) on: October 12, 2020, 09:02:35 AM
That's a nice add for BLW. As you correctly wrote, a payjoin is a good way to attain some enhanced privacy that cannot be guaranteed with regular bitcoin txs. Having such an easy to use version on a mobile wallet probably will help even average joes to better ponder their privacy before building and broadcasting btc txs.

I am about to print the 2x * yr chart and put it on my wall so when I wake up I remind to myself where we are going.  Smiley

Black background might be bad for printing, here's white background version:

Good point, pal, good point.  Wink

I did not know about this crazy Rico case against Bitmex from earlier in the year.

Seems to rest on their use of American services, but as we know, they did take care to bounce you off if you forgot to use a vpn and logged in from USA.

Guess they really want a piece of that pie.

Who on Earth is BMA LLC?

coindesk, so archived https://archive.is/lrbu3

"patent troll" / front for usg / powerful people ?

How did I miss this before?

This definitely supports my "somebody big wants the whole cake" theory.

It's very bullish and potentially terrible at the same time...

But who would be hiding this way:

1.  Some rich unknown(s)?  - Probably not.
2.  A cabal of existing companies - slightly more likely. Jaime Dimon does not want us to know that he's going all in
3.  THE Cabal? - Most likely... the big dogs themselves.... dressed up as a Puerto Rican street person.  Kaiser Soze basically, but the TPTB version.

If it is #3, and yes I am losing my mind, what does that mean?

Fu&k.  This is going to ruin my Sunday nap.
Yes, those are the things that ruin the start of the week too. Angry
1523  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US 2020 Elections data, polls and bets on: October 12, 2020, 07:33:22 AM
Now this is funny! Online bookmakers cut Joe Biden 2020 US election odds over the weekend (from -192 following the vice-presidential debate to -225) = chances of winning the 2020 US election have grown from 65.8% to 69.2%.
Donald Trump’s 2020 US election odds have shifted from +188 to +210 = Trump’s election chances decreased from 34.8% to just 32.3%.
But...
Despite the sportsbooks believing Joe Biden is the clear favorite to win the 2020 US election, the betting public is at a complete disagreement.
Over the weekend, just under 59% of bets on the 2020 US election have been on Donald Trump winning next months election while Biden has accounted for just 35% of bets on the 2020 US election.

1524  Bitcoin / Press / [2020-10-20]BTC Is An Insurance Policy Against The Fed, Warns Former FB Exec on: October 11, 2020, 04:06:20 PM
The U.S. dollar has been under pressure this year, taking a big hit as the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on America's economy.

In the run up to next month's U.S. presidential election, investors are scrambling to understand how a win for either incumbent Donald Trump or Democratic challenger Joe Biden will move the dollar and currency markets.

However, former Facebook executive-turned venture capitalist, Chamath Palihapitiya, has warned neither Biden nor Trump will help U.S. dollar—but holding bitcoin is an "insurance policy" that helps him to "sleep soundly at night."

Yes, please. That's a super informative website but the way they implemented information is not efficient. It's a good start, and seeing your  Holy Gray(l)scale spreadsheet I guess you can easily fork Bitcoin Treasuries and make it better. Please consider also to contact the webmasters directly as they ask in the footer  Wink

Well, I tried to contact NVK, he’s notoriously not the most good minded toward well explained critics. So I decided to fork my own project.
As I haven’t access to a website, I decided to go with the Google Spreadsheet, an instrument I am more familiar with.
I know what you mean. Anyway, since most of us are interested in a better version of Bitcoin Treasuries please share the spreadsheet when you have it (alpha, beta, delta, whatever version you might already have).  Wink
On a side note, now imagine what 5%, 10%, 15% of major global companies following Microstrategy’s bitcoin strategy could mean for bitcoin. Isn't it crazy? Wink

EDIT: Jeez man! My bad! I can't believe I missed it.  Roll Eyes
1527  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Treasuries on: October 11, 2020, 10:24:11 AM
The more I look at the website, the more I like the idea, the less I like the implementation.

The guys is doing several errors, on many levels:
  • He’s mixing companies putting value at risk investing in Bitcoin (Microstrategy, Square) with companies simply holding BTC on behalf of their clients (Grayscale, other ETP) and even miner with BTC inventories (HUT8)
  • He’s adding CAD and USD values like they were the same currency, which is of course an error
  • As pointed out by some sharp eyes, there are factual error is the links

This is why I am pledging to do an “improved” version of that website using my Google drive spreadsheet. Of course I will do a little bit of piggyback riding on the most tedious work, but I think the result will be more clear from a logical point of view.

Yeah, I don't like including any company's whose business is selling/holding bitcoin to other people as a service. Companies like Grayscale or Coinbase own a lot of bitcoin, but it's on behalf of other people. That's not an indication of the business's conviction of the future of bitcoin. Square is different because it allows you to buy bitcoin but the company itself has invested its own assets in bitcoin.

Why not private companies, like Tahinis? Only publicly traded companies can be easily verified.

Talking about something that could be added on the review pages, I believe a KYC (yes, no, only for withdrawal etc. you tell me) box could also be useful. I saw many sites are revising their KYC procedures and that's something players should be aware of.
Anyway, again, BTCGOSU looks better by the day and for sure is the place to go for people wanting to bet safely (and with fancy bonuses) on those platforms.  That's all for now.  Wink

That's a very good idea - I will create a specific kyc related comparison table anyway but adding the info on the review pages definitely makes sense. There is one "problem" though: Most casinos (only a few exceptions) state in their terms they may ask for kyc under special circumstances - even ones you wouldn't expect that since never reading they enforced it.
Good! Thing is the player should be warned before signing up and/or when the platform updates their T&C. Happened to crypto.games for example (now they require KYC for certain countries to deposit).
So it could be like this
KYC
  • Yes
  • Y/N, check T&C
  • No
In my example crypto.games is Y/N, yolodice is No etc.
Makes sense?

'2x per year' lines update (vs 7-day average):

This has been my №1 chart since you've posted it first here. We may notice that the lower line corresponds to a 2x price increase per year if we round the price to 50$ at the start of 2013. That is an exponential growth 50x2^t, where t is the number of years since 2014. The remarkable thing is that for 7 years Bitcoin has kept hitting these numbers on the way down after several extra exponential growths related to the halvings. And now Bitcoin is even above the line unlike 2015 and most of 2016. This is a strong sign that the exponential growth will continue at least in the next 2-3 years. We can't be sure if 2021 will have that extra growth, but the longer we stay close to the lower line, the better. Sooner or later Bitcoin will touch and may pass through the upper line for a period.

With that regard, what software/site do you use for that chart? I would like to make my own chart with years up to 2025.  In my opinion the lower line is very close to the real price of bitcoin, since it reflects the increasing demand (new accounts added to exchanges, etc.) vs selling pressure on exchanges. For the latter one can judge from the total exchange ballance, which has decreased from 2.8 mil to 2.4 mil in the last 6 months. We can easily find the line equation for each year so that for each day or month the price point is found. Something like y=(x/3)*1600+6400. For example at the end of August (x=8), the price for the bottom line is y~$10 666. We are over 10% above that, so all is good!

I completely agree that's the only chart to go. Its accuracy is mindblowing! That's the chart to go to when there are dumps, when your gf tells you to f*** off, when you finish coffee in the morning, when bob starts ranting ( Grin), when proudhon tells you that math and science confirm the price will go below 10k soon and I could go on forever.
The future is paved, you got it before others. Just wait. (dude and lfc, I know you hate waiting but...wait  Grin)
Oh, good morning

Has anyone here seen the following betting platform? This thread made me curious and I found a few sites but this one is crazy. Allows gamblers to bet on basically anything. I don't know how it works in detail, if it's a scam or not but maybe you can tell.
https://www.betmoose.com/bet/will-donald-trump-be-elected-president-in-2020-4401#bets-1
BetMoose is legit as far as I know, though they're not very active on the forum and I don't know anyone that actually uses the service. They've been around for a really long time.
Yes, thanks I saw there is a thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=645747.0) for their service since 2014 (definitely a long time in the bitcoin betting business). If we go by the definition of legit I don't know how legit they are  Smiley but it surely is a functioning betting platform. I saw they have many US Elections related bets and the stakes are quite high hence it could be considered safe to bet there.

what if Tether's bank accounts are based on a huge fractional reserve.
They are. We already know that. They were audited and found to not have enough USD cash to back up USDT 1-to-1 as claimed, to not have enough reserves of any kind to back up USDT 1-to-1, and the reserves they did have included loan repayments they were making to themselves to repay the loan they gave to themselves when they printed 800 billion USDT out of thin air to stop themselves from going bankrupt. These audits were all done over a year ago when the market cap of Tether was only around $3 billion. It is now $16 billion. Tether is an outright scam. The sooner it and Bitfinex collapse, the healthier for the whole of crypto.
I did further reading on the matter. I have come up to your very own conclusion and I believe Tether explosion will cause a huge chaos on the overall crypto market. What if this is being hold as a controlled bomb against the inevitable bitcoin price rise?  Roll Eyes

The #Bitcoin  Entry Stages

Stage 1: Early adopters (2009)

Stage 2: Smart money (2014)

Stage 3: Companies (2020)

Stage 4: Mainstream (2021)

Stage 5: Peter Schiff (2025)

I don't agree, once.  Grin Stage 2 is in 2012, there should be then a S3 in 2014 and a S4 in 2016

The US are simply confirming without any reasonable doubt that they will act the same way they usually do with other crimes. As Lucius wrote US does not negotiate with terrorists. If they did, we wouldn't know anyway and they would deny any possible ransom. This news is a no news, they clearly extended what they already do on a different topic.

For victims, though, this is very bad: they will suffer huge losses, twice.

https://www.fanpage.it/sport/calcio/cosa-sappiamo-su-juventus-napoli-il-protocollo-il-ruolo-delle-asl-il-3-0-a-tavolino/
@coinlocket$ I read this Italian magazine in English. It explains very well what happened and why the Italian Health authorities (ASL) denied Napoli to go to Turin
From google translate I read
"In the meantime, the correspondence between Napoli and the two ASLs involved in the story continues, another delicate aspect of the investigation. Napoli asks for clarification in the face of the indications provided by the ASL in the various communications and even involves the Campania Region: between an email and the other the central role of the protocol is lost and at 18:25, through the intervention of the deputy head cabinet of the Region, home isolation is sanctioned for all players and staff members. For Napoli it is obviously a ban and skips the departure for Turin, scheduled for the evening. The players return home to respect the isolation and the Azzurri management informs the Federcalcio and Serie A situation, but the League is adamant: after having read all the documents sent by the ASL to Naples, it confirms the progress of the match for Sunday evening at 8.45pm."

So, Napoli probably didn't apply correctly covid protocols but it's very clear to me that they were stopped before leaving for Turin by health officials.

1539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto.com - The Pioneering Payments & Cryptocurrency Platform on: October 10, 2020, 07:45:53 AM
I watch closely crypto.com promos, updates but the team doesn't want to announce the eligible countries list. Except for Singapore and USA citizens, it is not possible to order the MCO Visa Card from the app.
Full decentralization is still a dream and it will not work under modern technological demand.
What do you mean? I think you are late to the party because even Europe and UK have cards now.
https://help.crypto.com/en/collections/260584-mco-visa-card
Surely you can order a card from the app if you are in one of the countries which are mentioned on their platform.
I agree only with your last comment which is in any way connected to your post. Using platforms like CDC does not have anything to do with decentralization. If you need it please look elsewhere.
