1541  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BSV goes up by 50% in 24 hours, bull trap? on: January 14, 2020, 11:48:00 PM
recently BSV market has seen a huge developments , increase of 48.8% within 24 hours.
what to do you think? will it touch $275.00 in next 48 hours?.

I've honestly never seen manipulation of a coin this large in scale.

The pump seems to solely be based off of the information that CSW has been providing to his supporters, and that is enough to drive the markets completely nuts it seems.

I don't even think that the pump is 100% organic in the sense that it's likely fueled by a lot of short squeezes as well as leveraged positions from speculators that would otherwise want nothing to do with BSV.

A correction is imminent. There is no way around it.
1542  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Experiment , generate more bitcoin by buying TOP 10 alt-coins 2020. on: January 14, 2020, 11:17:55 PM
I would probably look more on the IOTA/XMR side than something like NEO.

XMR is one of the long term holds that you just keep in your portfolio and somewhat forget about it, because it's provided stability but not a lot of volatility in the short term which may be what you're seeking. So if you're expecting short term profits, definitely don't go with XMR. XMR is a long term hedge.

IOTA could potentially shoot through the roof in the context of a potential bull market because of the fact that its market cap is surprisingly small compared to when it first started out and its volume is very low. It has very good fundamentals as well imo with scalability and no fees in mind, but its success depends on the tangle's reliability.

NEO hasn't really performed that much, nor has it really innovated. So that's a no go for me.
1543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin SV Could It Reach All Time Highs? on: January 14, 2020, 10:50:16 PM
I mean, it could, but in the long run what does it mean?

It means pretty much nothing. People have made the same fuss over BCH, Bitcoin Gold, bitcoin diamond in the past and this is really no different apart from the fact that the value of BSV is deeply rooted in a (most likely false) belief that a certain person is satoshi himself.

Unless there is conclusive proof that that is true (which there hasn't, all there has been is media speculation), BSV should have no long term value at all. And even if CSW is satoshi, *which he isn't*, there is no reason for adopters to switch all of a sudden given the existing amount of adopters in the BTC blockchain.
1544  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Currency Future in Pakistan on: January 14, 2020, 10:17:54 PM
Earlier in 2019 State Bank of Pakistan announced that bitcoin and other virtual currencies/tokens/ coins are banned in Pakistan. For organizations and institutions it is banned by State Bank of Pakistan. Bank will not get involved if there is any dispute. They will not facilitate any transaction for it.

Late in 2019, Prime Minister Pakistan started a new program "Digital Pakistan". Highly Qualified and well known team members are chosen from all over the world. PM will directly monitor this program, Head of this program is Ms. Tania Aidrus. During her address, said that she is quite aware of the financial troubles faced by Pakistan’s freelancers as Crypto Currency / PayPal is unavailable.

on another occasion Tania Aidrus has promised to bring PayPal and cryptocurrency in Pakistan. While speaking at an interactive session with the top entrepreneurs in Pakistan at the Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) she made these remarks.

with this hope that 2020 and the Digital Pakistan team will bring back crypto currency / paypal in pakistan.

It's very obvious what they are trying to accomplish and it's the same for basically all the countries that are currently banning decentralised cryptos.

Ultimately, their aim is to drive out decentralised cryptos so that they can pave the way for domestic, centralised cryptos, whether that is issued by the government or the central bank. Pakistan is no exception to this, and we're hearing similar things from countries like Russia.

I doubt that these national cryptos will be of significant interest to everyday crypto investors though due to the fact that they're still tied to the national fiat currency and is essentially no different to them.
1545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If Altcoins Won't Moon Can't I Just Short the Hell Outta Them??? on: January 14, 2020, 09:51:07 PM
If you think that what you hold right now is not worth it for you, you can sell it right now, but you don't have to be sad if you see the coin that you held before start to increase. We can only suggest you hold for more because you already do that from a few years ago, and that will not be a problem if you hold for longer. I am sure in the end, and you will see your profit will come to you, and you will have a chance to recover your losses. But that is up to you, and we cannot force you to follow our suggestion.

He's not talking about selling. He's talking about shorting.

I personally think that shorting is a very dumb idea right now, unless you genuine think that the markets will somehow stay put for a long while under $9k (in which case, you can get interest payments from the long position holders on platforms such as Deribit and Bitmex), or it will decrease significantly from this current level (unlikely).

Plus, your leveraged positions can go south very easily since every loss is magnified. In this volatile market I'd recommend against it.
1546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How blockchain can solve ticket fraud and secondary market issues on: January 14, 2020, 12:54:48 AM
The immutability aspect of blockchain can and shoud be taken advantage of in various industries to prevent fraud. The application that you spoke of in the OP is absolutely no different.

Unfortunately, what is holding up adoption is the fact that people tend to associate blockchain with crime or they are just generally closed to new ideas, which is sad because of the fact that they are missing out on more efficient, and just safer practices in general for their own business/industry (from the government's point of view, that is ).
1547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the altcoin market being manipulated in 2020? on: January 14, 2020, 12:16:51 AM
Hello There!  Wink

At one time, I stopped being interested in the altcoin-markets because of the situation there. Famous projects were dropping their bags off to gullible investors to get even more money.

Do you think the situation has changed in the year 2020?  Huh
Is it safe to trade ERC-20 tokens and is it possible to earn something else?

Depends on what you mean by manipulation.

There is always manipulation to a certain degree when it comes to alt markets, especially when you look at the degree of influence that whales have especially with leveraged positions. Whether or not this becomes debilitating to the entire market for the coin is another issue.

For example, there are always going to be pumps driven by whales. But its market cap is too large for any pump and dump TG groups to be manipulating its price. These two could both count as manipulation depending on your definition but their nature is entirely different.
1548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Progress Since 2017 on: January 13, 2020, 11:51:00 PM
Fundamentally speaking, I don't think that much has actually improved.

I don't think that ETH adoption has increased sizably either since 2017 given that most ICOs just completely died after that bull run and there hasn't been a lot of new injections into the market.

However, there are exciting new developments on the horizon given the fact that they're eyeing a potential ETH2.0 fork to have PoS, which will be significant to their long term fundamentals. It could also potentially cause a short term rally in the market as people get hyped about this fork, but of course that's not the entire point.
1549  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Rises to $20-$50k After Halving...Thoughts? on: January 13, 2020, 08:27:17 AM
It's not an outrageous prediction, but that doesn't make a prediction true necessarily.

This is definitely more realistic than certain people's predictions of BTC in 2020 (cough cough McAfee), but honestly, given the fact that markets are significantly more tame now compared to something like 2017 it's hard to predict exactly how much the markets will rise by.

I would generally refrain from making predictions at all about the price in a concrete way, but prices should benefit positively from the halving for sure.
1550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin will move up if there is a war with Iran on: January 13, 2020, 07:48:53 AM
I think that with any sort of negative external shock to the fiat monetary/financial system, BTC should benefit positively.

That said, however, I don't think that you should necessarily attribute a lot of the bullishness in recent days to the prospect of a war. Bitcoin prices' biggest influencer is still the cycles that it follows in distinct, 4 year patterns, governed by the halving. Disturbances and shocks in the real economy never really affected it as much as regulatory news and/or these cycles that I talked about earlier.

So yes, there will be a short term impact, but over the long run what dictates prices is still market cycles and fundamentals.
1551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is Cardano a steal at current prices ? on: January 13, 2020, 05:09:17 AM
I wouldn't say that it's a steal. What i would say that it's undervalued.

Indeed, I think the majority of alts are. ADA poses a very interesting proposition however because of the fact that it is one of the only accredited blockchains (or at least, professionally and academically), and has quite good scalability factor compared to other blockchains of the same type that can carry out smart contracts.

That said though, make sure you diversify. ADA is known for wild pumps and dumps and the same time and unless you are willing to hold onto the coin indefinitely, don't hold an excess amount of it.
1552  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery In Your Place on: January 12, 2020, 09:25:22 PM
If you were going to buy lottery, why not just play dice online with the money that you would have spent?

It doesn't matter what country you're in or what agency is issuing the lottery tickets. The EV of lotteries is significantly lower than the EV of most crypto gambling sites, including even roulette, which has one of the higher house edges when it comes to crypto.

I think that people who play the lottery generally do it out of sentimental value or as a force of habit - because rational players would rather play dice, or not gamble at all.
1553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coming from altcoin to bitcoin on: January 12, 2020, 09:11:15 PM
I don't know if its the right call or not but i just feel like its better to sell my bags of altcoins for bitcoin, most of the altcoins i owned are not top altcoins, mostly new coins from bounties and I've seen coins worth of 2k turn 20$ while holding them, finally i decide to take out the losses and invest in bitcoin, if you are holding any altcoins that aren't good enough do not hesitate to sell for bitcoin to at least make some profits

Well, it depends on what you're selling.

If you're selling worthless tokens that are bound to go to zero due to their inherently crap fundamentals, then kudos to you because getting into bitcoin is a smart decision to make given that bitcoin has very strong fundamentals and will continue to be a stable force in the crypto space.

If you're selling certain undervalued coins (XMR for example comes to mind) then it could potentially mean that you miss out in future pumps, but even then it wouldn't matter by much since BTC generally sets the pace of the crypto market. You'll still reap the benefits of a bull market for sure.
1554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Staking WAR has begun, who is wining it? on: January 12, 2020, 11:10:37 AM
Just a few years ago it seems like that staking will never take place on an exchange. Guess that was wrong.

But yeah, I think that Binance has definitely got an edge in this game because of the fact that they provide much better customer service from anecdotal evidence as well as the fact that they deal more in altcoins, specifically PoS altcoins. Coinbase may have a large customer base but their customers are mainstream investors without much of a need for staking.

That's why I think BNB could potentially be a good investment at this stage.
1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who Says Forks Are Bad? on: January 12, 2020, 10:39:23 AM
Forks aren't bad in general as an umbrella. There are certain forks that are bad.

For example, ETH's transfer to the PoS blockchain could potentially turn out to a very bullish event, if it is pulled off successfully by the ETH development team. However, there are certain hard forks, such as Bitcoin's many hard forks whose value solely comes from being a fork of bitcoin (bitcoin diamond, bitcoin gold, etc. etc.) that contribute absolutely nothing.

So yeah, it's incorrect to cast everything under one light, but there are indeed rogue ones.
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEWS] Is SardineCoin Real? The Sardines Are, At Least hehehe on: January 12, 2020, 10:19:20 AM
I mean, the project itself doesn't say much.

What it says about the wider market sentiment is that these kind of projects are popping up again and somewhat being covered by the media, instead of the usual bear market things being covered. That in itself is a sign of a revival of the market, and potentially a pointer towards the next bull run very very soon.

These aren't necessarily good things to the cryptospace as they don't contribute much to the fundamentals, but it's an indicator of sentiment.
1557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Full list of truly decentralized altcoins. on: January 12, 2020, 09:51:52 AM
This is a fantastic list. Keep it up.

I think that Monero is one that is very underrated because of the fact that it is actually decentralised and addresses the anonymity issue. I think that even theymos himself once said that XMR is one of the only projects that BTC could borrow some features from. Also, it's a simple coin, and not some utility token which is intrinsically centralised.

These fundamentals should be what investors look for. Not hype.
1558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you go to blockchain/crypto events? on: January 12, 2020, 09:25:44 AM
I don't see much of a point.

You're unlikely to find much more additional information attending one of these events compared to simply searching for it online - besides, there are a ton of projects that are only there in order to get your money.

Just becaues they attend a conference doesn't guarantee their legitimacy, just ask Bitconnect. So why bother?
1559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ways To Distribute & Promote a New Coin on: January 11, 2020, 08:36:58 AM
Start with an ANN thread in bitcointalk. Free and will generate some attention at the very least.

If you are serious about the token, then go for paid advertisements or press releases on the major altcoin news sites.

Note though that the results may not be ideal but it's a risk you need to take if you are serious about your project. CMC listings as well, but that generally requires a lot more funds to pull off successfully alongside at least some level of existing maturity of the token.
1560  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining crypto by walking on: January 11, 2020, 08:09:03 AM
I don't think that you can make this kind of system work.

There are too many loopholes to be exploited, in my humble opinion. One could very easily bypass any sort of anti-botting system especially when distribution is supposed to be for the masses. There is a trade of between accessibility and the ability for it to be abused.

Anyhow, it's an interesting idea, but not one for coin makers to capitilize off.
