1561  Economy / Speculation / Re: Search volumes says you are overpaying for your coins on: January 17, 2013, 06:50:01 PM
All I know is that I buy a lot more bitcoins now than back when I had to search for things about bitcoin.  Now I just use it.  If you want to see a spike in search volume, you need new users.  But, I believe many existing users are like me and regularly buy on exchanges with a small portion of their paychecks.  I don't think we will have a problem absorbing the new coins at this price.  It's the big holders that are the wildcard, but the big dumps haven't moved the price down much lately.

I agree, there's just so many legitimate uses for bitcoin, we do not need to search for it, we know what it is. We now search for places to use it, for example interest in bitpay, bitcoin gambling etc... is skyrocketing in google trends.
1562  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 17, 2013, 06:41:55 PM
Someone just thrown a yes coin there, after >$15.38 happended. Would that count as long as admin don't close the bet or would he cut off and return all bets after it hit? Or take over as a penalty for cheating? Grin

Coins will be returned for bets that was placed after the event happened.

Hi,

I guess my service would have to be under "Other"? Or maybe you could create a "File Sharing" category?
Here's my recent service announcement: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133389.msg1420763#msg1420763

Thanks for your consideration!

Interesting service, will consider it later after your site has been in operation for some time.

Thanks. So you know, it now has search capability too.

ok thanks for letting me know.
1565  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-10 slashdot.com - Online Gambling Site Bets On Bitcoin To Avoid U.S. Law on: January 11, 2013, 04:24:55 PM
"SomePgmr writes with a story about an online gambling site operating planning to use Bitcoin to sidestep U.S. regulations effectively banning online gambling"

http://slashdot.org/story/13/01/10/2147224/online-gambling-site-bets-on-bitcoin-to-avoid-us-laws

Why are there so many bitcoin haters on slashdot?  I don't understand.

Probably because they see it as a greater fool type setup. As long as there us a greater fool out there willing to buy your bitcoins the scheme continues. They tend to think this will eventually end.

And honestly... Their opinion is pretty darn valid. It has a significant chance to happen. If steady progress is not made bitcoin will end up being a niche use case for what we see today. Gambling and drugs and speculation. With a tiny use case of products and services from techy type folks.

Actually Bitcoin would be wildly successful if it were able to capture the entire gambling + drug market, worldwide. That's a 100B+ annual revenue market. Bitcoin would be able to compete pretty much head on with minor currencies such as JPY/AUD/CAD.
1566  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gangnam Style and other music videos on: January 11, 2013, 03:49:38 PM
It wouldn't hurt if more people simple had "If you liked the video you can donate to BTC ADDRESS HERE" in the description.

This is a good idea actually, I think Bitcoiner who uploads videos to youtube should do this. This will get all the viewers curious about Bitcoin. Youtube has A LOT of viewers.
1567  Economy / Speculation / Re: Butterfly Crash on: January 09, 2013, 02:16:22 AM
Pirate himself

source : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=91252.60  (you could have found it in 5 second if you wanted to)..

Ok so pirateat40 has been seen in person, before he was labeled scammer. But I still don't see his confirmed name and address anywhere, can you point that out to me?

Also, even if someone was able to put the pieces together and confirm his name and address, this is still quite different from BFL whom has put out their real identity since the start.
1568  Economy / Speculation / Re: Butterfly Crash on: January 08, 2013, 09:36:03 PM
Let's see how they are similar:
1. BTCST was operated by one unidentified unknown person. BFL has nearly 20 employees and we know exactly who their CEO is or where he's located at.

2. BTCST promised something that was mathematically impossible to sustain for any extended period of time. BFL promises something that is very possible by utilizing known technology, and the same product is being worked on by several other companies.

1. wrong. people knew his name, face and address. he even personally met with his victims prior to the scam. regarding BFL, yes, we know their management. we also know that prominent members of BFL were convicted for a multi-million scam in the past.

2. feasibility of scammer's promises has nothing to do with his willingness to fulfill them.

it seems that Pirate and BFL guys have more in common than you previously thought, right?

Which victim did pirateat40 personally meet? also I thought we only have pirateat40's suspected name and address, not a confirmed one. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

True, feasibility does not guarantee it's not a scam, but non-feasible business is a guarantee that it is a scam. So BTCST = 100% scam. BFL = scam possible, but unlikely. Btw BFL just showcased their ASIC miner at CES:

1569  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best escrow strategy? on: January 08, 2013, 08:22:03 PM
I believe the best strategy is once escrowed, the buyer isn't getting the money back under any circumstances, and the buyer need to approve release to release money to the seller.
Disputed money gets donated to charity.

This type of escrow works, because:
1. the buyer will never see his money back, so there absolutely no incentive for the buyer to scam the seller, especially since the seller knows the buyer's name and address.
2. the seller will not receive the money if he try to scam the buyer, so there's absolutely no incentive for the seller either.

Almost everything that goes bad in a transaction is due to a motive, if you remove the motive, then every transaction should go smoothly.

The only tiny problem with this model, is that a troll seller can promise to sell something that he doesn't have, and get people to lose money (though the seller doesn't have anything to gain except just to troll people, this should happen only rarely). This can easily be prevented by having some type of reputation system in place, it maybe forum post count or a real feedback rating system.
1570  Economy / Speculation / Re: Butterfly Crash on: January 08, 2013, 08:08:55 PM
How far will the price fall when Butterfly Labs stops "customer service" and leaves the country?  Will we see the same magnitude as the Pirate Crash?

Please explain why it would crash.

Speculators dumped coins when the Pirate scam was confirmed so it seems plausible this might happen when this scam is confirmed.

虽然实物币很流行,不过我还是认为这种东西完全没有价值和意义。
1572  Economy / Speculation / Re: When the price is going up as expected? on: January 07, 2013, 08:19:14 PM
um it already has. The halving is a well known and studied event, it was priced in when the price went from $5 to $10 a few months before the halving.

The current $13 is not due to the halving, but due to the good publicity and confidence generated by Wordpress.com accepting Bitcoins. To go higher, we would
need significant new catalysts, something like "wikipedia/reddit accepts bitcoin", or "50% gambling sites are accepting Bitcoin".

Bitcoin's value can only go higher by having more places accepting it, so go out and promote Bitcoin.

MagicalTux is in the business of selling domain names?
1574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I made 100BTC with Satoshi's dice. Is this normal? on: January 06, 2013, 11:07:39 PM
The thing is that the Martingale strategy with the 50% bets is basically identical to repeatedly playing the 85-97% winning odds bets with the amount of Bitcoin that you would risk at maximum with your Martingale strategy.

i.e. if you play Martingale starting with 1 BTC on the 50% game and you're prepared to keep doubling at losses up to 64 BTC, you might as well keep betting 64 BTC on the 97.6% odds game. (not exactly sure of the numbers but it's equal at some point.)

Not really, my martingale strategy is calculated to have 1 catastrophic loss in about 89000 rounds played, so far I have been lucky and about +200 BTC.

The 97.6% odd game is what, 1 catastrophic loss in about 50 rounds? that's not acceptable to me. Also my martingale strategy actually uses the 24% odd game, instead of the 50%.

I think the key with martingale is take your initial small winnings, and walk away.
1575  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I made 100BTC with Satoshi's dice. Is this normal? on: January 06, 2013, 05:31:05 PM
I bought my first 30 BTC the other day, and decided to try my hand at Satoshi's dice on the 50% slot. Kept betting 3BTC, if I lost I bet 6 BTC, and if I lost that then I bet 12BTC. If I won, I kept betting 3BTC. I believe this is called the martingale strategy. In the last 3 days and over 600 transactions, I've made over 100 BTC. I'm amazed.

This seems incredibly easy and too good to be true. What am I missing here? The coins are confirming and all is well, but I can't imagine how this site stays profitable giving away $1000+ to a user. Does everyone usually win this much?

That's completely normal, I've made over 200 BTC on SDice with my martingale strategy. That's exactly what martingale will do for you, it allow you to win small winnings over time, then at some point, you will meet one gigantic loss. How well martingale works depends on the max bet limit and your own bank roll. In theory, if you had a huge bankroll, and the casino allows extremely large max bet, it's unlikely for you to lose even in millions of rounds of play. But eventually, you will lose, the probability guarantees it.

hmm seems to be fixed, all I did was remove the blank line in the first line of my html (I researched the issue and some said that can cause google's false alarm). God google's detection algorithm is stupid.
1577  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN]TBLOB.ORG - The Big List of Bitcoin (List of reputable Bitcoin sites) on: January 04, 2013, 10:24:33 PM
I get the same alert on Firefox you need to fix this

Yes I see the same thing, I'm very confused, I checked my site and didn't see anything abnormal. Maybe a false alarm on google's part, I have submitted a request for their review.

Can someone review the site for me and tell me if there's anything bad I did not notice?

1579  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 03, 2013, 04:42:34 PM

S.Dice is crazy... very attractive for newcomers... I spam the blockchain, too. Ultraprune and stuff should be implemented asap! I call the developer who called SD an attack to Bitcoin a real pussy. Seriously, don't you think there will be much more stuff like this coming up in the future??? Calling SD an attack to Bitcoin is like calling sex an attack to mankind. This must be handled, can't invest millions into Bitcoin if a fucking gambling site is threat!

Yep, if using Bitcoin too much is bad for Bitcoin, then the software/protocol need to be re-designed to handle such scenario.
1580  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: January 03, 2013, 04:41:37 PM
Stable prices are soon followed by volatility. Just watch

I'm pretty sure volatility is the only thing that can follow stability....right?

or more stability
