1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why invest in open coin? on: May 15, 2013, 02:26:28 PM
Google ventures and Andean Horowitz among others are investing in open coin.

any idea how they expect to make any money on that investment?

 are they being promised xrp?

what is this company?

They are investing the biggest alt coin 100% pre-mine scam in existence. They make money by printing them out of thin air (XRP). People are buying 10k XRP for 1 Bitcoin, and OpenCoin have 100B or more XRP.
1083  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 15, 2013, 01:57:20 AM
Because there's an issue at mtgox that flushed out weak sellers.

people still use mtgox?
 Grin

it's only the biggest exchange with over 70% of market share.
1084  Economy / Speculation / Re: All of the alt-crytpos are sliding down on: May 15, 2013, 12:00:58 AM
The only alt-coin with any value distinct from bitcoin is Namecoin.  You can actually do something with it that is unique - buy .bit domains.

The others are junk, and while they may have some slight utility in buying some very limited numbers of things, that's just for the moment.  I see no future at all for any of them, once the alt-whales have sucked out the value from all of the unwary holders.

Is that why NMC is less than 10% of market cap of LTC? The problem with NMC is that it meant only to buy .bit domains, and .bit can not even be opened by a common user without making some proxy/DNS changes in their system. The value is very limited.

LTC's fast confirmation time is a huge plus, a lot of people on this forum already prefer LTC for trading things.

Yep still active, everyone's been sent up until this post
1086  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC on GOX on: May 14, 2013, 03:08:23 PM
seems like they want to, but are getting delayed.

here's how i interpret this situation:

they're going to put it off and put it off while they work on making their site work well, and fighting this lawsuit.

people are going to give up on the whole ltc on gox thing and cash out their ltc stacks, dropping the price.

gox is FINALLY going to get around to putting ltc up, and millions of new eyes are going to drive the price up.

so far I dont mind this turn of events.

Wake up, it is nothing more than a LTC price manipulation by mtgox, they probably made 10X on their money by creating this rumor. You think a real company would announce something like "we will add support for LTC", and then 45 days later nothing has happened? This episode will be forgotten soon enough, while LTC price slowly slip back into pre-bubble levels.
For what our opinions are worth, I believe Gox truly does intend to add LTC to their site.  I don't think they are lying just to make some short term profit on LTC.  Let's just wait and see.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the term "GOXED". Definition: Being effectively fooled and/or trolled repeatedly by mtgox.

1088  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTCT.CO][LTC-GLOBAL] Crypto-trade.com : IPO started! on: May 14, 2013, 02:46:08 PM
who else sees it coming? and i dont mean the launch of the site...

I've been watching the unicorn descend upon us since I read the IPO details months ago.

When it finally hops off the rainbow, in a cloud of glitter and purring kittens, it will be beautiful.

you got it  Grin

I dont want to troll (as people here call it). But just to make this clear: This operation has all the ingredients of a scam.
My favorite one is the statement in the IPO details about not actually needing public money to build the exchange. LOL ROFL AFK #WHATEVER

Fortunately I'm not invested in this. *leaning back and watching the show*

I'm a long time investor in neotrix's other IPO esecurity (koddos.com). You can see from nearly a year of dividend history, neotrix don't run scams, but great businesses that pays nice dividends.

1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will another currency overtake bitcoins? on: May 13, 2013, 12:33:33 PM
Right now there are no coins that offer significant improvements over bitcoin. The cost of switching is too great - bitcoin has proven legitimacy, wide support across merchant platforms (well compared to other coins anyway...), and a much higher market cap allowing for a real economy to take place.

The only way for an alt-coin to replace it will either be a massive technological and/or practical advantage, or backing by a government/bank/other influential entity.

I'm pretty sure PPCoin offers pretty significant improvement over Bitcoin. There's no need for energy wasting PoW mining for starters, plus PPC is nearly impossible to 51% attack unless you hold 51% or more of all PPC in existence, which is not probable due to you will drive up the price so much you won't be able to afford it.
1095  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: May 13, 2013, 02:01:36 AM
Feature request:
Can you create a setting some where, to allow me to set the threshold for email notification? I like email notification for incoming btc, but only for important ones, for example I want email notification on anything above 0.1 btc, but not if it is below 0.1. You can default this setting to off, and let users who need it turn it on.
1096  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ANN]TBLOB.ORG - The Big List of Bitcoin (List of reputable Bitcoin sites) on: May 13, 2013, 01:53:49 AM
I present to you a new Bitcoin "Big List" style site.

The Big List of Bitcoin

This site will be a great resource for new users starting out in Bitcoin to find reputable and trustworthy sites to use.

The site will be constantly updated, by me. This will be my long term project, it will stay up indefinitely.

Thanks, nice site.

Is there any reason that you disclude Seals with Clubs?  Or Dragons Tale?  Those are great gambling sites!

Seals with Clubs is on there, you just have to scroll down the little window. Dragon Tales isn't that more of a Game?
1097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 12, 2013, 09:17:11 PM
Nice ! - I just bought a $25.00 GC for .2222 BTC
At the current exchange rate, that cost me $25.02
This is MAGICAL!
I'm going to eat lunch everyday for the next month using only Bitcoin!

I don't understand, why would people pay $25.02 for a $25.00 giftcard (that possibly will expire)? why not just use your credit card, which probably give you 1% or more cashback on your purchase?

1100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A request to BTB (Bitbar) holders on: May 11, 2013, 02:58:34 AM
Some clarifications:
1. BitBar is based on PPC, and PPC based coin can not have a hash rate problem, since the difficulty re-adjusts on every block, also reward greatly increase when difficulty falls, so it always in equilibrium. and here is the kicker, the network can have exactly 0 PoW hashing, and it will still functions with simply PoS blocks. So a PPC based coin can never die due to lack of PoW miner.

2. What does BitBar solve? I believe there are two:
* the first and only non-premined scrypt PoW+PoS network in existence
* the only coin with potentially high denomination and a tiny blockchain (due to being PPC based+high denomination), that could end up as a reserve currency for banks/big institutions. I don't think many of these guys want to deal with 10GB+ current annual growth of the Bitcoin blockchain plus the dust/spam/taint that comes with it. BitBar can be a true reserve currency.
