why do you only take a currency that is going down rather than a currency that is going up or at least going up at a higher pace than BTC?

consider other coins and or fiat

Ebola is heavy in the news, EMC2 is considering leading a campaign to making a public donation to fight Ebola --  via Ebola research, public awareness, and scientific education.

We need to know many people are willing to contribute to the campaign, we want you to pledge your support.   We are specifically looking for people to pledge currency, volunteer time, retweets, facebook, reddit, IRC, etc posts, and assistance with a crowd-funding campaign.   If enough people pledge to do something great in this regard we will turn the best wishes into action.

In addition to the good it will do for the cause, it will also provide some positive exposure for the cryptocurrency community, we know that various media inside and outside of the CC community will want to pick-up the story.

Depending on the number of people who would want to be involved this project will be very impressive.

We want to help fight Ebola, can we count on you to support this cause?

I think your title is somewhat misleading. All that bitcoin could do is provide a payment method for people to donate to the cause. There is nothing special about bitcoin specifically that will help fight ebola.

I do like your intention however I do not believe that many people who are involved in bitcoin will trust enough to donate

Thanks for your comment, given that you know the intent of the thread please suggest a title that you believe is more fitting for me to consider.

Currency, in any form beit crypto, fiat, or precious metal is a means by which goods and/or services are exchanged, even if the service is Ebloa research and pubic awareness.

I am one of three administrators of a not-for-profit cause coin called Einsteinium (EMC2) our mission is to provide grants to causes to advance scientific research, education, and development, visit www.Einsteinium.org

The Ebola project is a very ambitious endeavor to consider, which is why we are reaching out to other cause coins such as: worldaidcoin, gridcoin, aidbit, educoin, charitycoin, and carecoin, to consider a strategic partnership.

At this point it looks like representatives at 3 of the cause coins might form an exploratory committee to consider the matter further, I'm one of the delegates for EMC2, this thread will help me to know how bitcoin owners feel about the matter and will greatly impact how I approach the whole issue.

Believe it or not, finding people to give is easier than finding people to ask people to give -- volunteers are hard to find.

Would you like to volunteer?
1583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: October 01, 2014, 10:45:14 PM
Askerisks on the non-mineable coins are currently not showing, only the note on the bottom of the page that says what they represent.

Why have they been removed?

Back in the olden days, we could choose to only view anyone-mineable coins, and ignore those incestuous coins that don't have open-source code, and are prone to being dumped at any moment at the whims of the centralized corporocratic owners of the 'non-mineable' coins, that only pay the centralized authority on all new issues from inception.  Now, i can't make informed decisions about my investments, and your data has lost meaning.  I mean, as I only consider real, mineable coins that carry the spirit of freedom and free-market mechanisms, I can't tell the incestuous coins from the real ones.  I have to go back to one of those other coin-comparison websites.  That's a shame, because your's was the best.

Just as Coinmarketcap helps to inform people of cryptocurrency information, it is a grave error of omission to keep people uninformed about these closed-door coins.  What happened?  Surely you really don't want to omit this important information?  Did they pay you off like the mainstream media gets paid off to look the other way on anything that promotes freedom and decency?  Did they threaten you?  Let the cryptoworld know what they are doing to force you to present data in this way.  Psychopaths bet that you are too chicken s to share their strong-arm tactics with the greater community; they keep you isolated and thereby corner you into submission.  Wake up.  Give the community a chance to support you.  You may be surprised to see what real crytocurrency support can do in a rally for justice.

Please put the asterisks back up, and leave them there.  (...Or better yet, always keep the non-mineable coins separate from the real independent-free-market coins.)

Thanks.

bravo, well reasoned argument

hopefully the * situation was a simple oversight or bug as a result of the update
1584  Other / Archival / Re: Faucet Service! - Are you interested in creating a faucet for your coin? on: October 01, 2014, 10:39:24 PM
Hey Armis,

1. What do you mean with place a faucet on a google site? Do you mean get listed on google?
2. We work with pre configured droplets we create and transfer to the users digital ocean account. This saves us some time.
But if you realy want to run it on amazon we will find a way.

This should be a link to google sites:
https://sites.google.com/?pli=1

google have a free hosting service, it's pretty good for novices but not to friendly to coders, if you provide me with an email address I'll give you access to one of my sites so that you can see it from the inside.

Sure i can look if its possible to set it up on your hosting service. Does it provide a mysql database ?
Also do you have a coin demon up and running?

Send it to my official mail info@bitcoinproject.net - I will look into it after work, okay?

No we don't have a coin demon running at any of the three site up for consideration for this project

you asked about " a mysql database" I don't know what "mysql" is  but there is a database for the google sites (2 of the 3 target sites)

So just send me your skype name and we will help you

Sorry, I don't do skype, here is the site: https://sites.google.com/site/einsteiniumbiz/

I have granted you access to view the site from the inside.

Whats ebola got to do with altcoins, is't this the wrong part of the forum

EMC2 is an alt currency we are sponsoring the question, we are asking other cause coins (all alt coins) to join forces, and we want all those who have any type of alt currency to be able to contribute to the cause.

I remember when people complained "what's non-bitcoin talk doing on a bitcoin talk discussion board?"

contribute some currency

There is only on way to help. Big pharma concern must earn some money, because they cause it.
If you collect some coin you will give it to those people.

can you plz add an option for "shooting ebola victims onsite"

it would probably be more efficient plus i would do that

More people die from the common cold every year then ebola.

If the same number of people that are exposed to a common cold were exposed to an ebola virus the death toll would be in the hundreds of millions per year, keep in mind that only ~50% of the people who are exposed to Ebola die from it.

People rarely die from the common cold, those who die 'because of a cold' usually have an already compromised immunized system so anything as simple as a common cold could kill them.   This goes for premature infants in the first weeks of life, organ transplant receivers in the first 6 months after the procedure,  cancer patients undergoing chemo,  and people in the sunset days of their life -- old folk.   If their immune system was not already compromised the cold would not kill them.

Since the subject is up then I guess this would provide a good read for anyone interested:
http://www.naturalnews.com/046290_ebola_patent_vaccines_profit_motive.html

The "patent number" indicated in the article refers to a "Also published as" number.

I searched the United States Patent and Trademark Office site USPTO.gov  http://www.uspto.gov/patents/process/search/index.jsp  under the patent number, inventor name, application date, application number, and other identifiers all resulted '0' found.

Clearly Google has recognized the information as a "patent[ed]" item however the US doesn't.

I also checked the US copyright office, nothing there either.

As far as I'm concern the information is foundationally flawed.

You should create a fundraiser and donate all the proceeds to Ebola research/public awareness.

Thanks for that lead, it will be considered.   Are you in contact with the site owners?

Hello,

I run a Bitcoin Crowdfunding Platform called BitcoinStarter . I don't know what your plan are for a crowd funding platform , but do let me know how I can help , if any. Just wanted to let you know of my services.

Thanks again!

Oh, and good luck! Ebola is awful Sad

I think the problem with BitcoinStarter is the sheer lack of backers.  Such crowdfunding services can only really work when you have a good sized user base and marketing/

You are absolutely correct, BitcoinStarter should go to every alt coin and pitch his site.

additionally he may want to consider cross marketing where he trades advertising banners with sites willing to do the same with their site, the site has been around long enough for many people to have heard of it, but this is the sort of service that needs to be pounded in over and over again to be a go to item.

Everyone wanted low btc prices, but as the price fall less and less are being purchased because everyone thinks they will go even lower -- then they do ... which leads to less interest in BTC and less interest into all of the things that feed into or off of btc.  Even this site has seen a massive drop in activity.
1591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | funding science education, research, & development on: October 01, 2014, 02:22:44 PM
With EMC2 receiving a second wind I thought it would be worth suggesting organizations that are dedicated to fighting Ebola to consider. Here are a few I have found:

http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/our-work/medical-issues/ebola
http://www.samaritanspurse.org/disaster/ebola-crisis/

This of course is when the coin is prepared for it but I think it's worth discussing none the less.

This is a great suggestion that should not wait for us to fund it alone we must seek strategic partners and do what we can to aid in research, awareness, and or education.   As I see it the only thing hindering us from going forward are the human resources to forward the action.

We have already reached out to four other coins regarding this issue, as a direct result of our PM, they await our response to know if EMC2 will take the lead.  If we take the lead they of course would want to know in what capacity they would be expected to contribute.  We will want currency as well as campaign support, meaning they retweeet and use other social media (facebook, IRC, reddit, etc ...) to broadcast the ongoing message.

In addition to the good it will do for the cause, it will also provide some positive exposure for the coins involved with the effort, we know that various media inside and outside of the cryptocurrency community will want to pick-up the story.

If you are willing to be the EMC2 point person for this project I will give you all of the guidance you will need to make the campaign a success.

A budget of 100,000,000 coins from each CC, and minimum $100,000. from a crowdfunding campaign with a time budget of 1 month, it can work.

Are you ready to do this?

i can link this thread to gridcoin thread here in this forum!

this seems a great initiative.

Thanks for that link

Yes, I notice on gridcoin's site they would like to sponsor "science fairs" EMC2 would also like to do that, as such I think this would be the perfect
icebreaker joint project to do.  Let me know when you are ready to do it we could take the lead, or play a support role, we're ready either way.

I will contribute with some altcoin (non btc...).

But first of all, what is EMC2?

EMC2 is a cause coin, an alt currency created to make donations to scientific research.   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494708.0

I hate to crush anyone's altruism but people know this is a hundred year old disease without a known cure right?

Government s are well on top of it money wise and professional input. Containment is the 'cure' with this and so amateurs getting involved won't help anyone. This of course is the case if you trust your government doesn't want the disease the spread???

Given that statement the effort should be about: scientific research, public awareness, and academic education.    The scientific research to find a cure, public awareness to let the public know how to deal with the disease, from prevention, to proper identification, to containment, to clean-up, to follow-up; and as for academic education (as opposed to the practical education aka public awareness)  this is that step just before scientific research, grad, and post grad education with a special concentration in infectious diseases and Epidemiology.

i responded to the topic so duh.. i was talking to the OP unless stated otherwise (welcome to the internet)

Come on now, I see millions of coins donated for various reasons regularly by non-cause coins, EMC2 (OP, I'm one of the admins) as a cause coin have made contributions and will continue to make contributions.  I'm willing to be if you think hard you will remember a time when you donated some of your coins for some reason.
