1581  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your opinion on recreational drug use on: June 27, 2017, 03:29:30 AM
A lot of countries (such as Uruguay and Portugal) has made recreational drugs 100% legal. And the results have been overwhelmingly positive. The number of deaths from drug overdose and HIV infections due to drug usage are down. At the same time, the government revenues are up.
1582  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Why altcoin price down during this week? What are the reason? on: June 26, 2017, 08:31:18 AM
There is no reason for this dump but some coins are pumping like litecoin and ripple is stable.ethereum going down because in past 2 weeks it increased about 200$ now finding stable position it will stay aroun 300 to 320 now onwards.

Ethereum prices have gone down by almost 40%, and IMO this is not a simple correction. There are two possibilities. Either the promoters such as Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Lubin are dumping their coins or converting them to BTC, or the demand is down as the SegWit2X support has crossed the 80% hashrate in the Blockchain.
1583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: If you only got to invest in one altcoin which one would you choose? on: June 26, 2017, 08:26:17 AM
It is a very tough question. Choosing a single currency out of more than 800 is never easy. Ethereum and Ripple are out, as I feel that they are too over-priced right now. I would exclude Litecoin and Dogecoin as well, as they have proved to be super-flops in the past. So I analyzed the remaining 38 altcoins with a market cap of more than $100 million, and came to the conclusion in the end that Byteball is currently having the maximum potential.
1584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone NOT made profit in this astonishing bull run?? on: June 26, 2017, 08:22:22 AM
My belly is full of profit. I have done nothing but hodl some alts (and of course BTC). All my losses are wiped out.

Has anyone NOT made profit during this bullish 18 month boost from $8bn to over $30bn total crypto market cap??

Some say it was always going to happen, but it's still astonishing to me.

I haven't made any profits from ETH till now. Previously, I got my fingers burnt while trading in Litecoin and Namecoin. So this time, I stayed away from Ethereum and Ripple. To my dismay, I could only watch as the prices of ETH jumped from $2 per token to almost $400 per token in less than a years' time. But now I am glad that the exchange rates are going down.
1585  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-25]Last Stage of Bitcoin Bubble Yet to Occur, Says Economic Professor on: June 26, 2017, 08:19:14 AM
There are countries like Japan and South Korea, also maybe Nigeria and India, where we can already speak of a "mania". These countries were also fueling the altcoin bubble and local exchanges had, for much of the last few weeks, substantially higher Bitcoin prices than those recorded in USD or EUR. So that there was "still no mania" remains under question.

I don't know much about the situation in Japan and South Korea. But in India and Nigeria, the local exchange rates are much higher than those denominated in the United States Dollar or the Euro. In India especially, there was a sharp spike in demand after demonetization (November 2016). The spike is still there, despite the effects of the demonetization exercise waning away.
1586  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-25] Markets Update: After Some Stability Bitcoin Price Trends Downwards on: June 26, 2017, 08:14:26 AM
I wouldn't say that it is a downward trend. For the past 6-7 days, the exchange rate was languishing in the $2,500-$2,700 range. Now it has broken the lower limit of this range, to trade at $2,480-$2,490 per coin. But the good news is that the alts are crashing even more. Has anyone checked the Ethereum exchange rates? Please do if you haven't yet. The exchange rates have crashed by 13% during the past 24 hours.
1587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy more bitcoin or wait for August 1st? on: June 26, 2017, 08:07:24 AM
My advice would be to wait until August 1. You already have significant holdings of Bitcoin and it makes no sense to purchase anymore at this point of time. It is difficult to predict what will happen on August 1. Experts have made all sorts of predictions, with each one wildly differing from the other. It seems to me that even they are not sure about their predictions.
1588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BREAKING NEWS] Google Bought Blockchain.info on: June 26, 2017, 08:04:51 AM
A quick look into the link and even reading the article suggest otherwise that  blockchain.info is being bought by Google what happen is just raising capital from individuals and companies that believes in the project and as a worthy if note, its normal for companies to raise capital in other to meet current challenge and blockchain.info doing so is not out of the ordinary and also a testament to the durability of bitcoin like someone have rightlg stated.

This sort of over-hyping makes me sick. Although I will not brand this thread as fake news, it gets quite close. And it is not even clear how much stake Google Ventures brought in Blockchain.info. My guess is that it may be definitely less than 5% (more like 1% or 2%). But this stake will be quite handy, when Blockchain.info lists itself in NASDAQ in 2020 or 2021 (a wild guess).
1589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future? on: June 26, 2017, 07:58:52 AM
Google's biggest success mantra giving back to people where yahoo and other competitors fail to do . Googles Adsense , YouTube , blog , android apps giving revenue 65% for creators. Here bitcoin also giving back to users like mining and other faucets and all so it will not follow Yahoo!'s path.

You are spot on. Google was able to demolish Yahoo, as the promoters were intelligent enough to realize that without the support from the content creators, they will never be able to grow. Giving out the majority of the revenues to the content creators was a master-stroke. It gave them a huge market-share in the internet sector.
1590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin savings account? on: June 26, 2017, 07:36:42 AM
You mean a way to get interest on your Bitcoin?

That's not going to happen, I am afraid. Bitcoin is a currency, which is protected from inflation (due to the principle of controlled supply). We get interest on the other currencies, because they are not protected against inflation and their purchasing power goes down with time. But the purchasing power of Bitcoin is constant. So I don't think that anyone will offer interest for Bitcoin deposits.
1591  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are your perception on the leader of maute group? on: June 26, 2017, 07:33:32 AM
If the leaders could be assassinated, then it is possible that the militants may either surrender or express their willingness for talks. It is up to the Philippine government to decide what they want to do next. The conflict has already claimed more than 300 lives. If they offer amnesty for the militants, then anymore deaths could be prevented.
1592  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Let's invade cuba? on: June 26, 2017, 07:30:40 AM
The Americans want to invade Cuba just because they dare to follow a different political system? The present population of Cuba is suffering a lot from the embargoes and sanctions. And despite that, the Cubans have one of the best education / healthcare systems in the world. And what the Americans will achieve by destroying this system?
1593  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Africa should be nuked, all evil originated there on: June 26, 2017, 07:28:19 AM
So from where did your ancestors came from? I am not certain, because a lot of people exploited the Africans throughout its history. First, it was the Arabs and the Persians. After that, it was the turn of the Europeans (especially the British, Portuguese, French and the Spanish). And now the Chinese are exploiting the Africans.

Northern Europe. A few were very enthusiastic slavers. Others were slaves themselves. Go figure. I feel no guilt or anger about either. They're all dead and gone.

Northern Europeans (especially the Vikings from Sweden and Norway were famous for their slave raids). But as far as I know, they never targeted the African continent. Their targets were mostly in Western Europe.
1594  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum in 5 years on: June 25, 2017, 07:22:15 PM
.. 4 sure, Vitalik will find a way to fork you shills out off (who did it?)

As I said before - nobody will remember ETH in 5 years.

Vitalik is a very clever guy. I am afraid that he is currently cashing out most of his remaining coins. He had revealed that he dumped 25% of his holdings a few months back. I am assuming that he has sold another 25% to 50% till now. Before the exchange rates spiked, I read somewhere that the ETH devs owned around 12 million tokens. Now the number will be much lower.
1595  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin hit 3500$ in 2018?  ??? on: June 25, 2017, 07:18:10 PM
Bitcoin would most likely hit 4000 before the end of this year. Could drop below 2000 and head back up very fast, smashing the 3000k barrier and move to 3400.

If everything goes according to the plan on August 1, then I expect Bitcoin to break the $5,000 per coin barrier. If we are lucky, then we may even witness $10,000 per coin (can't be sure whether the prices will be stable or not). At the same time the alts are going to go down.
1596  Economy / Economics / Re: Holdings of gold vs Holdings of btc on: June 25, 2017, 07:15:41 PM
In a couple of decades gold will lose its scarcity due to asteroid mining and Bitcoin will become the new global standard store of value. There, I said it.

Asteroid mining is impractical. There are many challenges. First of all, only very small amounts of gold is present in these asteroids, so it will take a lot of effort and time to extract the metal. And secondly, space missions are extremely expensive. You may spend $100 million in conducting one single space mission to the asteroids, and in return you will get $1,000 worth of gold.
1597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Physical bitcoin - Is this the future? on: June 25, 2017, 07:13:10 PM
If in the future Bitcoin will become a widespread currency, someone will notice that being digital can be a downside, because it makes Bitcoin 100% tied to the Internet, electricity and electronic devices, unlike fiat money that can exist in many forms. Physical Bitcoin already exists, but mostly for collectible purposes. If someone will decide a physical Bitcoin for payments, they will probably get a lot of Bitcoins (lets's say 10 000), lock them in and release paper currency that will be backed by those Bitcoins. It will work just like current cash, but backed by Bitcoin instead of gold, and it won't have any problems with private key ownership that you have described in your post.

Bitcoin is essentially a digital asset. It is not that easy to convert in to the physical form. Even if you have physical Bitcoins with you, how can you confirm that the Bitcoins haven't moved else where? You need internet to confirm that the Bitcoins are still present in these physical coins.
1598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition at Change.org to get Amazon to accept Bitcoin. on: June 25, 2017, 07:09:51 PM
I don't think that these petitions in Change.org holds any significance. Amazon is not legally bound to accept Bitcoin, even if the petition manages to get 10 million signatures (that said, the target of the current petition is just 5,000 signatures). Amazon is a private company, and they have the freedom to accept whatever payments they want. You can't force them to accept BTC, if they are not interested in it.
1599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy more bitcoin or wait for August 1st? on: June 25, 2017, 06:53:35 PM
So my initial plan was to invest more into bitcoin on a weekly basis but with the possibility of a split on August 1st I figured I'd wait a little. If there would be a split, there would certainly be a drop in price so maybe a good opportunity to pick some more up rather than doing it now. Normally I tend to make these kind of decisions for myself but since I don't fully understand what will happen August 1st I figured this would be the best place to ask.

Now it looks like the chances of a split are quite low. So I would advise you to continue with your regular investment plan. There is a chance that a spike can occur on August 1. If that happens, actually you can do some profit booking as well.
1600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Governments Shutdown the Internet? on: June 25, 2017, 06:50:08 PM
It is not possible for the government to prevent Bitcoin transactions by censoring the internet. With VPNs and web-proxies being easily available, that will be unpractical. So the only option left is to block internet altogether. It is never going to happen, as there will be widespread anarchy and chaos.
