Question....

As I understand it this is the longest streak ever without finding a block in this pool.  Is this purely because of bad luck or is it a combination of that and the recent difficultly increase?

If the latter, is this pool going to be profitable at it's current hash rate as these streaks become more prolonged and extend across additional difficulty increase events?
The difficulty and pool hash rate are the biggest impacts.  When we had the 800 and 900% blocks, we temporarily had a hash rate of around 200Ph that helped us get through them in a shorter number of physical days.  Obviously the rewards were less then too.  Remember that we could have a streak of extreme luck where we hit 30 blocks in a week, then the profitability goes crazy through the roof.  It is all in the luck of rolling our trillion sided dice trillions of times per second.  Nobody can guess profitability for sure except that over the long term, it should average out to be near 100% of the difficulty.  And I expect that this bitcoin dive may impact the difficulty a little bit sometime over the coming weeks.  Obviously the hard core miners know this is just a blip and a time to invest more but the newcomers (including me) definitely get nervous.  All I can say is Mine On!

You keep harping on future speculation and you want to change the Kano website to show speculation data.  The charts and data tables on the Kano web site are about displaying actual historical data; not speculation into the future about things that have not happened.  There's a huge difference.  Like I said, you can use any of the many calculators out there to do all the speculations and all the what-if scenarios you want.

I actually got it how kano displays things, but it is more amenable for many blocks situation and not very good for a small number of blocks per period.

Example:
imagine that in the first two days of, say, March , we cracked four blocks (instead of expected 0.5-1), then the web site would promptly display a very large luck number (multiple 100 of %), then, hypothetically, we did not hit any until mid April. All this time we would see this abnormally high number of luck through the rest of March and until that April date for the next block, at which point, the luck for April (but not March!) would change to a very low number (only in the example, of course).

Intuitively, it wouldn't be right for comprehension, but from the perspective of calculation, it would be correct:
Quote
As I said, it shows the stats for blocks found in January - not the hashing done in January.
The code works as: any block with a date of the month of interest, then it's numbers are included in the calculation for a given month.
[emphsis mine]
I agree with Grog and Biodom that the monthly stats are confusing when the number of blocks that we find take weeks.  With the very clear mathematical talent that Kano demonstrates, I expect it has been checked and rechecked tons of times over the years.  Obviously setting up background daily calculations is probably not an easy thing to implement without a lot of testing and may make the data really inaccurate during the transition.  Of course we are all hoping the pool will grow so it will be a non-issue anyway.

So I wonder if an asterisk (*) could be added to the monthly stats (January in this case) when the month has rolled over without a block.  then under the monthly table, add the asterisk again with some sort of description below it?  At least that would give an indication that it will be updated at the next block.

Beyond trying to offer another thought on this, I would like to remind everyone here that we all are perceived as representatives of the Kano site even though we really are not.  I am an old fart that has always told my kids that texting and email communication is much easier to misconstrue versus face to face or phone where reactions are instant.  This forum is the same in my book.  As tempting it may be to do a quick pop off on a heated topic, please consider a re-read and edit before clicking the post button.

Now lets crack this block so we can get back to the cheering and Mine On!

maybe half of the worst one we have seen...  long way to go for the worst.

What my wife said after watching the video

"I don't think the cables and adapters will hold up. Mineral oil dissolves a lot of things it touches. Maybe the metal will hold up, but I don't know about the plastic. Plus, the oil may get gummy as small particles start to mix with it.

Think about putting horses' manes & tails up. Mineral oil dissolves the rubber bands within a few days."

Uh she's always right...
she might be... after all mineral oil is petroleum based, and I can see that may interact with petroleum based plastic connectors and wires....
DOH  I hate it when your wife is right!

Maybe just submerge it up to the point just to the top of the hash boards and not any higher.  Not even the control board since that doesnt make any noise.  Use the fans from the antminers to blow air thorugh the radiator, ( With quieter ones anayways) that way the control board still sees a fan is spinning.

If you notice on the last part of that video, only one fan is at 240 rpm, and all others are at 0rpm.  AAnd we do not know if he actually logged into that particular S9 on his network...
Is a good idea to fry a bunch and make the global hasrate less...
Your wife is right.  Here is another discussion on it and the recommendation to use silicon liquid.  Also talks about eating the capacitors - yikes!

I created another Kano Stats Android app.
Looks amazing.  I recalled your name and saw that you and I did a little bit of "going after it", so I can't believe I am saying this, but I wonder if we should figure out a way to work together?  I am already gathering and archiving a lot of info (and doing it so that kano never gets hit more than once per 3 seconds), but don't have a good way to show it.  I even have historical in case you know how to do charts.  I do not have API code hooked in yet, but I have written a very flexible one that would only take a day or so to hook in.  The minergain site also grabs info from many pools, not just Kano.  Anyway, what are your plans for making money on this (one time selling the app, subscription or just a free contribution like I am doing)?  Obviously that is the first question to see it makes sense.

Thanks for thinking about it and have an amazing weekend!  Mine On!

So I have been waiting for comments on the BTC price today - but it is quiet!  Sure is amazing how it bounces around.  Anyway, looks like another sale to increase my portfolio.

I know, it even says "My pool- Kano.is"!

So, Workers -> Block % is my share to the pool right? I have a single S9, and it says .034%. It keeps saying my reward is averaging 0.000096598460 per Th, so 0.0013 BTC daily. I think I'm doing something wrong here. It must be "well" over 0.0018 haha. Because that's how much a friend of mine is doing at Slush. Jeez...

based upon some historicals.  CDT will give you a per TH value just pick which ever one you want to use

https://www.minergain.com/

Right, I wanna compare Kano to something more than Slush tho Smiley I know I'm staying here, but has anyone ever mined on BTC.com..?

Yes that is where I started before learning about Kano. I don’t have any side by side comparable data though because I just started here.
I don't have a login for Btc but can look into it. It often is hard to get historical hash rates, but at least we can start building out going forward. If anyone has info to get me stared, that would be great.  As an example, it is impossible to get ant miner past rewards more than 15 or so blocks with slush. I did manage to get all of their site data though. Pm me with Btc details if they have an API.

I just added Zcash to slush - and it looks like I totally botched the block table.  So yes, ignore this week's slush data till I figure that out.  Sorry bout that!  The cost of progress I guess.
I have slush fixed and was totally skipping the coin in the calculation.  Current Weekly CDT is .00010875 instead of .01BTC per Day per Th/s.  Oh how I wish we were at those days.  Mine On!

haha...

there goes that theory/advantage/whatever you want to call it.

i guess the math is either wrong or right, but if the later, doesn't present a very pretty picture... I guess we'll hope it's wrong.

Check out this mornings version of minergain.com - changing that N/A for the week to 0.0000 inflicted all sorts of punishment on the numbers it appears. Sad

I also agree with it being important to handle a few months of bad luck.  In fact I am prepared to lose everything I have put in - much like how I treat the lottery.  Although I can guarantee you that I would do much more heavy duty whining for a year at least if that happened.

probability is a bitch and it plays with all of us... To say that Slush is decreasing rapidly might be right... but as it is as right as your good luck depends on my bad luck today, but tomorrow is a new day and tomorrow I could win... and then you will be the one decreasing rapidly.

I mean, even saying: "..weekly value is very meaningful on slush since they get tons of blocks..." I believe that bad luck lasts as much as it lasts... If you go to the historical data at minergain.com you will find for sure weekly CDT with greater value for slush than for kano, surelly it could even be found monthly CDTs following that condition. it is more rare, but probability is a bitch! I mean, permanent GOOD LUCK or permanent BAD LUCK doesn't exist in probability...
I agree and I stand corrected.  And isn't that the truth!  These numbers are 1000% the past and as the experts here have been trying to teach all of us that the past has ZERO bearing or impact on the future, good luck, bad luck or anything.  These numbers may not be meaningful to anyone here at all, but in my years of stock investments, I often do "what if" analysis of my portfolio had been invested differently.  I seldom make any changes when I see the results - because the past is the past.  In any case, that is why I went through the time to code this up.  Although tempting to dump the site, since it is coded up, I will keep it running - but yes, please consider minergain data as "entertainment" value only since I will never make a dime off that site and definitely don't need any liability for no possible ROI.

I think what he meant was the Coin per Day per TH/s has been decreasing as you get closer to present time:

0.00018586 CDT for Quarter
0.00014460 CDT for Month
0.00011849 CDT for Week

Name   Payout   Hash Rate   Network %   Users   Current Block   Week CDT   Month CDT   Quarter CDT   Year CDT   Web
KanoPool   PPLNS   39.13PH/s   0.19% of 20.45EH/s   1,302   505456 (7.67Dys)   n/a   0.00016478   0.00018878   0.00040412   kano.is
SlushPool   Hybrid PPS   2.14EH/s   10.47% of 20.45EH/s   17,845   506696 (12.47Mins)   0.00011740   0.00014460   0.00018586   0.00037287   slushpool.com

I don't think he means that, since, according to the data in the webpage, Kano pool is decreasing even more rapidly, having into consideration that kano is 0 CDT for this last Week (not n/a as is written in there... correct Week CDT for kano is ZERO)

But if minergain.com means that, then the question would be: Slush is decreasing its CDT rapidly compared to which other pool?
Yes, it is all very confusing - and you are right, I will change the n/a to 0 in a bit since it is actually 0 for the past 7 days.

Obviously the weekly value is very meaningful on slush since they get tons of blocks every day now. The Kano weekly is not really that meaningful due to our low hash rate / variance.  For example, if we get a 15BTC block right now, I estimate my S9 reward will be roughly .00055BTC.  If I have my manual calc correct, that would make the weekly CDT equal .0000582.  Hitting 5 of them in the week like we did a couple weeks ago would make it somewhere near .0003.  So yes, if you are looking to stay at Kano for a week or two, this is not the place to be.  The difficulty is the biggest factor on the difference change, but if you look at the Quarter to Month, the decrease is more pronounced on slush.  Ok, now that I am blabbing about this, probably best to forget about it since it is all determined by the blocks we find.

Maybe I will just say that I am here because I am "gambling" on bitcoin, and I have much better odds of winning bigger here where every block that is found has a much bigger reward - as shown by the yearly CDT.  So what those numbers mean is that every S9 running at 13.5Th/s for a year, you would get about 8% (.153984) more BTC by being with Kano ($2,300 additional at US$15,000 per BTC).

A little more clear math would be appreciated... also a numeric result is expected.
Although not exactly what you are asking, if you check out the home page (of minergain.com) you will see a CDT (Coins per Day per Th/s) for Kano / Slush that is updated every 15 minutes for the past week, month, quarter and year.  Some of these are hidden on mobile phones so use a desktop to see them all.  Obviously this the past - which has no impact on future "randomness", but should give some idea what the long term results may be.  The one big thing to notice is how rapidly Slush is decreasing.

As an fyi, minergain is still showing the mempool at 125MB, so still terrible - however there have been errors with blockchain.info overnight, so that may be part of why lower transactions that have been sitting there longer are getting through.  It never hurts to consolidate and www.minergain.com/faq.html#btctxfees will give you some options.  I always go about half of the weekly value and would try .00005 BTC/Kb.  Be sure to check the option to change the fee later if that is a setting in your wallet.
Thanks, followed your advice and consolidated with a .00005 BTC/Kb fee, got confirmed in less than 5 days.
Nice.  I had done one at .00004 after I posted this and it was immediate which was totally crazy..  So someone obviously fixed whatever issue was going on, but 5 days is still totally acceptable for the price since last month it took me about 2 weeks for .00005.

Kano, not sure who you are using for DNS, but for my important servers, I use DnsMadeEasy.com which has the ability for automatic failover, has about half a dozen name servers for each account and is super reliable for $60 per year.  Not sure what you are using, but I have had this running for over 5 years without a single outage (that I know of - only monitored at the beginning of each minute).

the api is also down - the minergain site is giving me an error email per minute.  nslookup kano.is is giving SERVFAIL from the google servers so I agree that there may be a dns issue.  Also nya.kano.is is failing so I expect that sometime our miners may start failing depending on whether they re-read the dns info.

Consolidate your transactions with the low fees!
Indeed - don't wait for the next run of high fees then complain about them Cheesy
Do it! Do it now!

I did and it was confirmed very quickly even with the low fees.  Now is the time to consolidate all of your small payouts to another wallet you own! Cheesy

I was going to ask about this very thing...  I have had several payments into one address. But I keep hearing of this consolidation.  What is exactly meant by it and what benefit is there, or negative if its not done?  I know it means to move the funds to another address or wallet ID, is it simply to put them in one block so that when its moved its not being moved from many blocks over the past couple months and that ads up to more fees?  Ie satoshi's per kb..

I have had all the payments for blocks on kano since dec 10, and about 1 each week from Nov 21 from Nicehash...  except for that last one :-)

Thanks.

It's cheaper to move one "unit" that is 1 BTC vs 100 "unit"s that total 1 BTC.

Why are you thinking it's better?

PS
ping stratum.slushpool.com
PING stratum.slushpool.com (54.160.42.250): 56 data bytes

Never mind. I saw here on the forum experienced members were jumping to Slush when those tx fees were freaking high.
Minergain has a real time comparison between Slush and Kano on the home page for the past week, month, quarter and year in CDT (Coins per Day per TH/s).  Multiply all of your miner's hash rate by those values and it will give you what you "would have" made if you were fully ramped up on each.  The week value is not extremely valuable since we have been working on the current block for almost 6 days now.  The quarter one is a little iffy because we had two 800%+ blocks in October.  The biggest one to consider is that 365 days times .00041726 times 13.5 gives 2.056 BTC for the last year for one S9 miner at Kano and 1.8971 BTC for Slush.  Obviously difficulty increases and variance will impact that number for 2018, but there is no contest which pool to be in over the long term.  Oh, and yes, Slush does pay tx fees, and these calculations include those super high ones that Slush was seeing so frequently.

Question to anyone with an S9 on Kano Pool: how much reward do you normally get for a block? Looking back over the history of the pool, it has gone up to 8 days without finding a block. Is the reward on par with the other pools in that timeframe?
A guess but My N Avg=12.05THs   my BTC from that one block was 0.00611453, I am still ramping up started mining on the 31st my s9 will be ramped upon the next block
I have a live CDT (Coin per Day per Th) on the home page of minergain for kano and slush.  These numbers are assuming you are fully ramped up, so it will take a couple weeks of mining before you see these averages.

Name   Week CDT   Month CDT   Quarter CDT   Year CDT
KanoPool   0.00039619   0.00021934   0.00019232   0.00041881
SlushPool   0.00014426   0.00016328   0.00019514   0.00038954

As you can see, all except the quarter values are higher.  The quarter was down because there were two unlucky 800%+ blocks in October.
