What's everyones opinion on the Bitcoin Atom split that's supposed to happen this week? How will this affect miners since they plan on handling the transactions outside of the chain? Do we not get any of the transaction fees at that point? Is there any benefit to miners with this?

Consolidate your transactions with the low fees!
Indeed - don't wait for the next run of high fees then complain about them Cheesy
Do it! Do it now!

I did and it was confirmed very quickly even with the low fees.  Now is the time to consolidate all of your small payouts to another wallet you own! Cheesy

I was going to ask about this very thing...  I have had several payments into one address. But I keep hearing of this consolidation.  What is exactly meant by it and what benefit is there, or negative if its not done?  I know it means to move the funds to another address or wallet ID, is it simply to put them in one block so that when its moved its not being moved from many blocks over the past couple months and that ads up to more fees?  Ie satoshi's per kb..

I have had all the payments for blocks on kano since dec 10, and about 1 each week from Nov 21 from Nicehash...  except for that last one :-)

Thanks.

It's cheaper to move one "unit" that is 1 BTC vs 100 "unit"s that total 1 BTC.
As an fyi, minergain is still showing the mempool at 125MB, so still terrible - however there have been errors with blockchain.info overnight, so that may be part of why lower transactions that have been sitting there longer are getting through.  It never hurts to consolidate and www.minergain.com/faq.html#btctxfees will give you some options.  I always go about half of the weekly value and would try .00005 BTC/Kb.  Be sure to check the option to change the fee later if that is a setting in your wallet.

So I have one of my S9s that will occasionally stop hashing on 1-2 boards. All chips still read as zeros and there really is nothing that stands out like high errors, X's for the chips, less that 189 chips total, etc. except that the board(s) that stops show a RT (real time) hash of zero. A reboot of the S9 always brings everything back to life and it could be days/weeks before it happens again but it only happens to 1 of my 3 S9's.

I use Awesome Miner and have created a custom notification to alert me if hash rate drops below 13 Th/s for longer than 10 minutes. I know you can also include a command to restart the miner but trying has not been successful following the documentation. I check for like 5 seconds ago, 5 minutes ago, and 10 minutes ago to make sure all 3 are true. For whatever reason this kind of averages it out to make sure the hash is not just fluctuating but is indeed dropped for the last 10 minutes. Maybe there is a better way but this worked for me. Anyways, I know some others here use Awesome Miner so I thought I'd share what I have and hope it proves handy to someone else.

The simple fix would be to just set up a script to reboot that miner once a day as long as that miner never craps out less than a day after reboot.  (so you won't have any long downtime)

If it is dying more than once a day you need a real fix on the hardware

Good idea. It's never happened sooner that say 3-4 days apart and will usually go for more than a week without issue.

Kano,

You said:

It's there on the web site - 928.788% - in October.
Time isn't very relevant - the % is what matters.

Is the explanation of the % on the website somewhere? Can you link it here?

I don't want to ask anyone to explain this if I can read it.

Thanks a lot!

That's % of diff we reached when the block finally cracked.  Shocked
Expected is, of course, 100%.  Wink

Maybe I can help answering this one. If we find a block at 100% we are neither lucky nor unlucky. That is statistics.

If we find a block at 200% it means it took us twice as many shares as statistics say it would.

If we find a block at 50% it means we took half as many shares as statistics would indicate.

A 928% block means it took 9.28 times as many shares as the statistical expectation for the hash power at that time.

You have to look at it over a period of time in order to determine what is happening, not just one block.

If we are "lucky" we might be able to beat the statistical expectation for a period of time but it will eventually come back to roughly the 100%.

Hope that is more helpful than confusing.

As the old saying goes "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." We just need to do the best we can and that is why I am here. I feel Kano takes good care of the pool which helps us be prepared as possible.

Close, replace "long" with "many shares" and you'll be spot-on!

This may seem like a dumb question, but is there somewhere I can look on the site that will show we are getting close to a block or we don't know until it's found? The way Kano worded his response about getting to 100%, I feel like maybe I am missing something. Trying to better understand it all. Thank you for shedding light.

Now let's find another block.

For some reason I thought that the shares we mine may belong to multiple blocks and if we mined 9X the number of shares usually required to find 1 block, when the 1st block is found the remaining shares may at some time in the future be part of the upcoming blocks. Is that right or are the remaining shares just dropped in the can?

Indeed, kanosan's pool has a 5Nd, so any shares beyond the 5Nd would be lost.  I see someone's been paying attention, gold star!  Cheesy
