Hi guys!! What do you think about Xeon Phi and new algo for Monero in October? I Think it'll be most profitable hardware because it's like a big processor. Smiley

Debian Linux on both devices. So on my laptop that is connected to the node over Lan. The node is running on a cubietruck (cubieboard3) with 2gb RAM and 2gb Swap (Swap not really in use because of the speed loss when transfering the files to SSD).

Internet connection async. with 100 mbit down- and 10 mbit upload. So fast enough i think.

Is it fair to say then that the system where the node runs on is not particularly resourceful? Because if so, that is partly the cause of your relatively poor performance. In addition, note that the current daemon has inefficient sync code and JIT is not enabled. Both have a serious impact on performance, which may also be partly the cause of your issue. I'd advise to give v0.14.1, once it is released, another shot, as it will have drastically better performance.

I still have some problems with my node. Monerod status check shows 100% sync and there are some in/out connections (about 8/6), so all ok.
But when i connect my gui and send a transaction it takes 20-30 min to fully broadcast it and get the block hight. So orders with a time limit time out before its finished to send the transaction.

At the moment the transaction was done the node had to sync another 471 blocks. And this takes to much time.
Would it be more constant if i set a „block sync size“ of 5 or 10 blocks?

Which operating system are you using?

When top mixer services shut down recent weeks, I guess that people whom want anonymous transactions might come back to more regularly use Monero as their main means of transactions. Because there is no doubt that Monero is the best (or one of the best) altcoins that can provide anonymous transactions. To reach anonymous transactions, it also requires some technical steps that should be do right and carefully from users, but at least we know that there are available featurers for anonymous transactions with Monero. It will increase total demands on Monero in short term; for long term we might have to wait for crypto bull run.

You're missing one important point. Even such platforms like LocalBitcoin started delisting Monero.
If people will really start using XMR, then authorities will force bans and delistings from pretty all reliable exchanges.
The only thing that saves anon coins from disaster is that luckily they are not popular enough. Adoption will kill them.

People often like to purport that Monero will inevitably get banned. However, the new FinCEN guidance is basically inconsistent with that notion. From the CoinCenter article:

Quote
Section 4.5.3 states that exchanges are not per se banned from using privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies but will need to comply with the same BSA regulations they comply with for typical cryptocurrencies. We believe that this is possible. Exchanges need to know their customers but they do not have a black letter law requirement to know the customers of their customers. In other words, a bank needs to know who you are but they are not obligated to know the name and address of people that you pay using cash you withdraw from your account.

https://coincenter.org/entry/fincen-s-new-cryptocurrency-guidance-matches-coin-center-recommendations

Arguably, this is long-term bullish for Monero.

Besides, they, as far as I know, removed other cryptocurrencies too.

JIT not being enabled in v0.14.0.2 significantly decreases performance. In addition, v0.14.0.2 is based on inefficient sync code present in v0.13. Both these issues will be resolved in v0.14.1 though, which is expected to be released soon (I cannot provide a specific ETA unfortunately).

Additionally, could you perhaps type status into monerod and post the output here?

At this time my node is in sync. The answer of command "status" is:
Quote
Height: 1849876/1849876 (100.0%) on mainnet, not mining, net hash 326.75 MH/s, v11, up to date, 4(out)+0(in) connections, uptime 0d 0h 0m 17s

This is a frequent log output of monerod:
Quote
2019-06-04 23:04:57.839   [P2P6]   WARN    net.dns   src/common/dns_utils.cpp:519   WARNING: no two valid MoneroPulse DNS checkpoint records were received
2019-06-04 23:18:58.615   [P2P4]   WARN    global   src/p2p/net_node.inl:1338   No incoming connections - check firewalls/routers allow port 18080

That looks fine. Regarding the warnings:

1. https://monero.stackexchange.com/search?q=moneropulse

2. No incoming connections does not inhibit your daemon (monerod) from syncing properly. However, to 'seed' (i.e. serve) the blockchain to others, you'd need incoming connections, which you can get by forwarding port 18080.

I have rising difficulties to hold my core wallet in sync. wallet version 0.14.0.2 on ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I have many log messages like "There were 0 blocks in the last 90 minutes". From time to time I can reach the last block with patience. Any hint?

when does poloniex geofence monero? ( xmr )  Cheesy  lol

Monero is one of the coins that is definitely not a security. As for it's privacy features:

It was a code fork, not a coin created by a hard fork.

Does that mean October?

0.14.1.0 should be out soon. 0.15.x will be the September/October release.

I made this silly video some of you guys may appreciate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHnnj2noPak

Thought I'd share it here for any of you guys that are too cool to visit le reddit.

Love it, sorry out of merit right now, sure deserves some!

Also, I got an important question:

- I want to verify a balance of a certain address WITHOUT exposing the private (spend) key.

Using this tool, I managed to verify balances in the past, using the public address, tx-id and spend-key: https://xmr.llcoins.net/checktx.html
However, when I try with these three right now, it doesn't work. I am wondering, if the tool is somehow "down", or if there is a problem on my end?
Can someone check this? Tried with Firefox and in Chrome, same "result", when I put in all three parameters and press CHECK, *nothing* happens.

Thanks

PS: Also would appreciate if someone could guide me to an other method (maybe using the GUI wallet?) on how to easily prove a XMR balance without private spend key import.

That tool uses MoneroBlocks to fetch transactions. MoneroBlocks may have been temporarily offline and/or stuck.

With respect to a guide, have you looked at?

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2868/is-there-any-way-to-construct-a-transaction-manually/

The first steps of that guide allow one to set up a proper view only wallet that shows incoming transactions, outgoing transactions, as well as a proper balance.

Appreciate the answer. Will take a closer look at the manual construction.
However, the tool works now. Must have been a temporary offline issue as you said.

You're welcome.

Does anyone know what's up with Monero Moon by johnfoss? Haven't seen a new issue here for a long time.

Monero is the best desktop wallet you can store.

Huh
Your post makes no sense...

1. It has been discontinued. Rehrar typically posts a weekly newsletter now though (the Monero Revuo):

https://www.reddit.com/user/Rehrar/submitted/

2. I think he meant Zelcore, which has Monero integrated.

What is the current Monero DAG size? Any link to follow that info?

I was planing on getting used XFX black edition 570 4gb for $80 while the used 8gb is x2 times of the price $150-160.
So I was wondering for how long I can use those 4 gigs cards.

The current size of the Monero blockchain is approximately 70 GB. Pruning will be enabled soon, which will allow the end user to drastically reduce the size on disk (i.e. from ~70 GB to ~25 GB).

Bad news for holders of anonymity coins it seems. This looks like the first delisting of Zcash and Monero and it’ll certainly not be the last.
not sure about this...

A few things:

- I couldn't find any news on BitOasis' twitter account -> https://twitter.com/bitoasis
- Nor any other sources on Twitter that report this 'news'.
- There is thus a possibility this screenshot is doctored.
- They aren't listed on Coinmarketcap nor on Coingecko, which kind of indicates their volume is relatively insubstantial.
- The FinCEN just released guidance that is inconsistent with this action:

I just purchased some XMR on binance and trying to withdraw to my xmr wallet (monerujo).

Binance is asking for a "label" then "address". I figured the address part out from the app, but what on earth is the "label"?

and if I did want a "payment ID" how would I do that? I have it checked off for not needing it...

anyways, I'm trying to figure out how to put money in my xmr wallet from binance xmr funds.. Just can't figure out what label is.

Can someone advise?

For visibility purposes, the question was answered in this thread:

Got a question regarding the monero-gui wallet:

My balance is higher than the unlocked balance.
However I am fully synced. Any idea how to access these locked funds? :\

You should just have to wait ten blocks or so and it will unlock. If it doesn't you need to rescan or restore wallet.

Oh boy, rescanning 1.8 mil blocks.. ugh. I guess I'll try restore wallet first.
I have two tx over a year old that have status FAILED, my guess is these funds are still locked somehow?

Thanks for the answer, though!

It only scans the blocks after the wallet creation height though. Thus, a full wallet refresh should not take that long (even if your wallet is two years old). Did you manage to resolve your issue by the way?

Thanks. Yes, it's resolved. I did make a few transactions and after a day or so, suddenly the rest became unstuck, without any other restoring or resyncing from my side. Sorry for the FUD.

Good to hear Smiley
