161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: January 08, 2014, 12:27:28 PM
I created a form for new coin requests here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IZf5cBivam_93zENT_arFFuvWDidHGjWxoTMVmFSoWg/viewform.  I end up not adding a lot the coins requested because of missing required information.   Hopefully this will streamline the process a bit.  Instead of requesting in the thread, please fill out the form. OP Updated.

How come you list Ripple and don't list Webmoney, RBK Money, etc.?

They're not crypto-currencies, there is no supply of coins actively traded on exchanges, there is no marketcap of the currency, etc.

Please Add bottlecaps. No premine, no instamine
Can QQcoin be added plz?
Please add applecoin. It's been trading on CHN exchange for quite some time now.
I would like to ask if you would consider adding Xivra (XIV) to the list.

Please fill out the new coin request form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IZf5cBivam_93zENT_arFFuvWDidHGjWxoTMVmFSoWg/viewform  (I'm asking you to fill it out because you did not list all of the required information Smiley)

Website says 1% inflation, but no link was provided that shows the total supply of coins.  Can you clarify on how the inflation works, or provide the total supply link?  Thanks.

If you look at Coingen.io , it will soon be completely impossible to actually list all new coins. Also, back when Cryptsy was really the only altcoin exchange, things were different. Now there are multiple altcoin exchanges with lower requirements for listing than Cryptsy -- CoinedUp has added a huge number of new coins recently and now there's also NEWCHG.com who has entered the altcoin arena, so there will be competition amongst the three to list things.

It's rather unfortunate, really. Once upon a time you had to have a pretty decent coin to get listed on an exchange. Now, you almost have to get listed since if one of your competitors lists you and you don't follow suit, you're going to miss out on business. So if CoinMarketCap.com lists everything that is on an exchange, I presume CoinMarketCap.com will be adding a lot of new coins in the near future.

yeah, but once we get up to 100+, I'll only show the top 100 with pagination.

Hi Gliss,

It is of course your page and your decision, but just let me say my point of view.

This guy above is - in my - partly wrong (so partly right). In my opinion adding 3 coins at once is not bad idea but if you are adding 3 coins, mayby one of them should be on bigger exchanges. It seems for me that you are sometimes forgeting about majority of people using bter and cryptsy (comparing to minoirty using coinedUp). Please don't forget about other people on other exchanges - there are simply too many of them - the more people from more exchanges finds something for them on your page the more visitor you will have Smiley

So this is my opinion as an user of your page, I would appreciate if you take it under consideration.

Thanks

hmm..not sure what you mean by I'm "forgeting about majority of people using bter and cryptsy"?  I try to add what is requested here, if they give the required information.

Please update official website for Infinitecoin from www.infinitecoin.com to www.infiniteco.in

Done.

Hey! I think that it will be usefull to make hide/show buttons under all currencies an save them in sessions, so that users can watch only that ones, in which they are interested.
Thanks!

Second this!

Sounds like a feature that can built on from the API. (Which is coming soon, I promise!)

Gliss,
Thank you for taking your time with this project , it really helps the community.

I have one question , do you plan on having any historical data , so we can see how the marketcap has changed?
Some pie charts would be amazing to watch over a 1 month period let's say.

like http://coinmarketcap.com/btc_30.html ?

Android Token Grin

Now I don't have a URL that shows the total amount of coins, but this is the result I got from ADT wallet debug window

Thanks, but I can't run a node for each coin.  If you (or anyone else) can setup a block crawler with the API turned on, I'll gladly add it.

NXT 24h Volume is wrong.
It is more than 20 times as high on one of the two exchanges alone.

Should be fixed now.
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: January 06, 2014, 07:59:02 AM
Added Dimecoin, Mooncoin, and RonPaulCoin.  Also updated Nxt to pull data from the new DGEX api, and also updated the data sources for some other coins.

What will it take to get ProtoShares to show up reliably?  No one else seems to have any problems keeping charts active.

http://btsblock.com/chain/ProtoShares  seems to be down.  Is there another total supply source?

Hi,

concerning the issues with Protoshares blockchain explorers: I created a JSON API for you to get real time data from: http://q39.qhor.net/pts/coincap.json

Please use this instead of the explorers as they are very unstable recently. The API updates every 60 seconds and I pledge high uptime as the server is not used for anything heavy.

Let me know if this is usefull or you need something else!

Cheers
donSchoe

Thank you, updated!

Ripple is an eyesore. PPC and NMC even has higher trading volume than XRP.
The volume reported on XRP is taken from BTC.Bitstamp/XRP only. There are more markets trading XRP out there. Also this is coinmarketcap.com not cointradevolume.com.

Maybe make the selection of the "Filter Non-Mineable" change the URL? coinmarketcap.com/only-mineable.html or something like that...?

Though a lot of XRP still hasn't been distributed, in theory they can be spent and traded any minute - all of them. This is different to e.g. Bitcoin, where only coins that were mined can be spent/traded.

When you click on the filter it does change the URL to: http://coinmarketcap.com/mineable.html

Add MoonCoin on coinmarketcap Wink
a dozen people already requested it. Not happening. Appears that OP has grudge against mooncoin, or at least wasn't invested in it.

Sorry for the delay.. as I mentioned in my last post I was out of town.  Thanks for your patience.  Smiley

Same issue in UNO, maybe more. Hope Gliss can double check the data source. This will be surely a lot of work.

I have been regularly checking coinmarketcap for trading on exchange, usually both are consistent. But these days, some coins definitely have issues.

This site can provide some idea of virtual currency activity, but cannot be relied upon. One example is http://coinmarketcap.com/asc_30.html, Just take a look. At no point did ASC crash and then rebound. Coinmarketcap makes it appear that the coin is increasing in value, when in fact it has done nothing but gradually decline for a few days.

Glitches like this (along with so many others) make this site a very unreliable source of information. All data really should be confirmed on the exchange; often an exchange will show the true story.

Yeah that's not good... I will definitely investigate.

Non-mineable coins should be hidden when someone enters the page. And there should be a button to make them visible (the another way around like it is now)

But then that would be biased against Non-mineable coins.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: January 04, 2014, 08:42:44 PM

What seems to be the issue with temporarily delisting DGC? Could it be related to Cryptsy's withdrawal issues? DGC Network is working perfectly... :-)

could be either the cryptsy API or the block explorer

How are the 24h volumes calculated?

Well, I'm mostly interest in Freicoin.
Which of these markets are used?

https://vircurex.com/welcome/index?alt=frc&base=btc&locale=en
http://bter.com/trade/frc_cny
https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/39
http://bter.com/trade/frc_btc

Most of the volume seems to be in the first two.

For Freicoin it's Vircurex.

I'm working on providing more accurate/transparent volume counts, and will add some new coins by Monday (i'm out of town right now).  If you requested a coin please provide a method to get the total supply.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: January 02, 2014, 08:53:04 PM
How is the 24hr volume calculated? I am seeing more than $50,000 in volume for Ripple https://ripplecharts.com/markets

Bitstamp USD alone is doing almost the figure that coinmarketcap quotes let alone the BTC and Chinese markets...
There are links (the USD prices) to the pages where these volume numbers come from.

It might be useful to create something like "xrpaverage.com" that works similar to bitcoinaverage and combines numbers from more markets. Currently only XRP/BTC.Bitstamp numbers are used, with bitcoincharts as source.

Yeah, I'm trying to find a way to grab the ripple volumes.  I might just have to scrape Ripplecharts for the time being.

I can't add anything from coinex because their API is behind DDOS protection and requires javascript to view (pretty much making it useless).  I think they're working on fixing it?

Can we have a 250k or 500k market cap minimum requirement as entry to coinmarketcap or some other similar filter method (ones already listed can stay). Seriously don't want to see 100+ new useless coins added, and then 3 months from now there will be 1000... Need to draw the like in the sand now somehow.

I'm thinking once we get to 100 coins, we'll have to make it top 100 or some threshold.
165  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 30, 2013, 08:13:30 AM
I just added a special filter to filter out coins that can't be mined (Ripple, Mastercoin, Nxt).  Let me know what you guys think about it.

Since You got charts with data on them, would it be possible to get this data somehow so that we can actually make more sense out of it?

In the end if we are gonna trade them we gotta know a bit more than daily difference.

I would be ready to help You out with data munging, or donate specific amount towards this idea.

All the best

Sure, what did you have in mind?

Hi Gliss, CAT is on Cryptcy please could you add their price feed? Cheers -Kisa

Yes, Lottocoin and Catcoin now grab from Cryptsy.

Add RonPaulCoin (RPC) please

Hello Gliss

I would like to suggest CENT coin:

How do you get the total supply?

Hi, I find very usefull the BTC button, to have an option of viewing all prices in terms of bitcoin. Right now the "% Change (24h)" column is calculated with respect to USD price. Thus when see prices in USD or I see them in BTC, I see the same number in % change. I think this is not the good way. In BTC price mode the bitcoin % change, should be always 0% and other altcoins % changes should be calculation with respect to bitcoin price. What do you think?

Good point.  I'll see what I can do.

Added volume numbers.  I'll get around to adding some new coins soon.  Thanks to all who gave feedback and support over the last few days Smiley  I'm doing my best accommodate everyone's requests.

It looks like the Ripple volume is only based on XRP traded against BTC.Bitstamp. There are several other pairs with comparable volume, so XRP seems to be underreported by coinmarketcap (BTC.Bitstamp often has less volume than USD.Bitstamp and CNY.RippleCN).

https://ripplecharts.com/markets shows most of the markets. Several more markets, like XRP/NXT, have developed since ripplecharts.com stopped being updated while v2 of the site is being developed, but the biggest markets are on there.

BTW: Thanks for adding XRP back to the main page!

Thanks reporting about the volume, will fix soon.
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 28, 2013, 05:01:50 PM
EarthCoin added.
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 28, 2013, 05:11:05 AM
Added LottoCoin and Catcoin.

Don't support this scam site. Gliss is connected to Ripple, NXT and MasterCoin scammers.

I've already explained my position here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.msg4153544#msg4153544

Aside from the first 8 coins that the site launched with, every other coin has been added because of requests by the community.  If you have nothing constructive to say please don't post here and clutter up the thread.
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 27, 2013, 03:59:56 PM
Added volume numbers.  I'll get around to adding some new coins soon.  Thanks to all who gave feedback and support over the last few days Smiley  I'm doing my best accommodate everyone's requests.

Hi, I do not know from where you get volumes but look at these values:
http://cryptoranking.com/
It is 100% correct based on Btc-e and Cryptsy. Something is wrong with your counter.

I wasn't considering the USD crosses at BTC-e.  Should be fixed now, thanks for reporting.

Suggestion: show Ripple's market cap as the value per XRP multiplied by the total XRP released into circulation.

Bitcoin for example is shown as a current market cap calculated from the 12,180,975 BTC currently in circulation, giving us:

    $9,287,262,579 = $762.44 * 12,180,975

However, if one were to follow the logic applied to XRP then the BTC market cap should be shown as the total number of BTC that will ever be in circulation, giving us:

    $16,011,240,000 = $762.44 * 21,000,000

And for Litecoin:

    $2,013,480,000 = $23.97 * 84,000,000

Therefore at some of its previous prices LTC's market cap would have exceeded Ripple's: the current chart's method of calculation does not account for this.

Although Ripple is centralised so its XRP are not mined but released by a central authority I think this process is functionally similar to that of mining other decentralised cryptographic currencies. Therefore in my opinion Ripple's market cap on the chart should account for the XRP that have been released to be consistent with all the other currencies on the chart.

I understand what you're saying, but that's not marketcap.  At any time, the creators at Ripple can sell or distribute XRP whenever they want, unlike with Bitcoin, no one can sell the unmined coins.  This is what they do with large company IPOs - when they sell shares, usually only a certain percentage is released to the public, but the marketcap is based on the the total amount.  Also there is the logistical problem of figuring out programmatically how many they haven't released yet.  Do you know of a way?
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 26, 2013, 09:03:16 PM
Are you out of your mind? Ripple has a 4 BTC trading volume the past 24 hours. This shit does not deserve to be #2.

Way more than 4BTC.  http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/rippleXRP.html

Did anyone ever figure out why it showed / shows Devcoin, which mints 50,000 coins per block, as having a total number of coins that is not 0 mod 50000 ?

171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should CoinMarketCap.com re-list Ripple? on: December 26, 2013, 04:06:44 PM
Ripple has been re-listed and poll is now locked.  Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on both sides.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 26, 2013, 04:03:01 PM

coinmarketcap.com developped to a place with double moral .
First they accepted to ban Ripples to a second page(requested by a lot of people), then they allowed NXT, and now Mastercoin to be listed on the same page.
So they lost integrety.

I posted about re-listing Ripple in this thread and there seems to be a huge split in the community about it.  But you're absolutely right, I can't pick and choose which coins to add.

So the policy from here on is that all crypto-currencies go up as long as they meet the criteria which is:

- Total Supply source URL
- Exchange with public API
- If it's not traded on one of the major exchanges, then the exchange will have to prove itself by meeting a certain reasonable volume threshold (TBD)  and also must be in existence for at least 30 days.

Sorry if you disagree with this stance, but this is the only way to be non-biased against any crypto-currencies.  I really wanted this site to be for the community, but since the community seems split on the issue I have to end up picking a side here.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 25, 2013, 01:57:42 PM
Regarding removing Nxt, MasterCoin, and Ripple (which is now being voted on at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=381016.0), there seems to be 3 main arguments against it.  I'll let you know what I think about each:

1) It's a scam

Prove it?  Every single currency on the site has been called a scam at one point.  Unless the software is distributing viruses,  this is not enough to de-list.

2) Only traded on special exchanges that trade one coin

As long as the exchange is open and anyone can buy and sell freely, not sure why this is relevant.  If anything, there should be a volume requirement, but the three in question already have way  more volume than most of the other currencies.  If you have evidence that exchange is falsifying data, then please let us know.  I've already tweaked the calculation to avoid price manipulation spikes on tiny volume.

3) The marketcap is misleading for 100% pre-mined coins vs non pre-mined coins

This is really the only argument I have sympathy for.   But that's what marketcap is: Price x Total Supply.  We can solve this problem by providing filter for 100% mined coins.  What do you think of that solution?
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 24, 2013, 11:48:43 PM
As of the website -- coinmarketcap.com should show true market capital, not fakes from any website. Please take popular exchanges into account only.

Agree. Let's remove Nxt from the Coinmarketcap. It will be a problem of CMC who doesn't list one of the most popular cryptocoins, people will just move to its competitor who list all currencies.

Actually, I got more evidence.

Vol vs price. It appears the exchange is faking.

Can someone explain this?  I'm not sure what the left side is from and what is being faked.

176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CoinMarketCap.com - Market Cap Rankings of All Cryptocurrencies! on: December 23, 2013, 10:51:12 PM
btw, I'm having issues with the dgex.com API,  so if you see Nxt popping in and out, that's why.

Is there a link with the total supply count? It seems like each block generates a random number of coins, so I wouldn't be able to calculate it based on block height.

Hello,

We are the first exchange for Mastercoin (the "on top of bitcoin" altcoin), www.masterxchange.com, which by capitalisation is currently around the 5th coin

We have made a JSON API that retrieves prices & trades :

https://masterxchange.com/api/trades.php returns the 500 last trades
https://masterxchange.com/api/orderbook.php returns the 500 best ask orders and the 500 best bid orders
https://masterxchange.com/api/supply.php return the total number of mastercoins in existence

Hope this is enough for you to include us on your site. If you need additional data or options please let me know.

Regards,

Emilien

I'm looking at the trades API and there seems to be very low volume (50 trades in 4 days).  Is that right?

We launched ~3 days ago, and manual trading systems are still quite active with mastercoins.

Right now there is really few trade the order book is still just building up.

Alright.  I'm a little hesitant to put to up a coin with such low volume but I suppose I can average all of the prices for now until volume picks up.

Maybe there is a compromise for this problem. Perhaps an astrix or notation disclosing that it is only traded on one proprietary exchange?

Kind of silly to compare coin values when all the other top 15 competitors are listed on at least 3 exchanges and those exchanges don't exclusively trade just one coin.

If you click through on the price link you can see all of the exchanges on which it is traded.

Hi folks, this I initially posted as a separate topic but this thread perhaps a better place. With regards to some coinmarketcap shortcomings here I suggest possible ways to address them:

1. Market Cap is shown for all (pre-)mined coins, even if only a tiny percentage actually available for trading

-> e.g. for someone to push their newly designed coins to the top of the league, it would suffice to release a tiny percentage of them into the market, causing price squeezes due to shortage of supply. One could argue nothing wrong with that as the price is determined between market participants aware of supply shortages. However, the ranking in the league table vs coins with wide circulation is misplaced.

Suggestion -> supplement with a new ranking based on Traded Market Cap or a similar statistics (over a certain period across all available exchanges), e.g. Traded Market Cap (24h) = Traded Volume (24h) x Weighted (by volume) Average Traded Price (24h)
Let's see:
the trade volume of Bitcoin might be something like 70 000 the last 24hours(0.5% of the total supply). That's not much, sure, because many people use it for long time storing or trading. Now there is coming Quark, which gets traded with 2000btc (5% of the the total supply), because it is so new and every one waits for the big dump or pump. -> it will get over proportional high listed at coinmarketcap.com. And you have the problem, that 20% of Bitcoin are owned by Satoshi and he might never spend it. So should the total supply be decreased?
-> I think, this is no good idea.

Quote
2. The prices on less liquid exchanges are sometimes "manipulated", in that off-market transactions for small volumes are enacted

-> e.g if the market with reasonable size bid / offer for a certain coin is at $1.50 / $1.55, someone might sell tiny amounts to lower bidders at $0.50 without risking much. Yet such transactions come on record and distort both price and market cap history charts.

Suggestion -> for each coin introduce some reasonable minimum treshold trade size which is required for inclusion of that trade into the price and market cap statistics.
This was only with the new exchange "coinedup" an issue. When you make a sell order at 0.50$, you will sell at the best price which is $1.50, which will be the last traded price. All exchanges work like that. If not, this is a bug.

Quote
3. The % change in Market Cap is shown over the 24h period, e.g. every minute we look at % change to a different reference point.

-> e.g. even though 24h change might be interesting, the observed % change is then not comparable to the observed % change value several minutes or hours ago. This is irritating and gets substantially magnified when prices are volatile, or being manipulated as per above.

Suggestion -> use % change to a fixed time point of a day, such as 0:00 GMT. Perhaps this has been already discussed, so apologies if the community already actually agreed on the existing format.
Quote

That might be a good propose. I would change it like that: On the top you can change between dollar and btc. The same could work for percentage change week, day,hour,15min. And please, as an parameter in the url.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll address each here:

1. I agree with Porcupine here.  What you're suggesting is an entirely new ranking, not marketcap.  However, I'm working on displaying volume figures so people can determine how much trading is supporting the marketcap figure.

2. I've already put in place price manipulation prevention for DGEX (Nxt) and Coined-up (DogeCoin).  I'll eventually switch to moving averages for all exchanges to smooth out the volatility.

3. Agreed that this needs to be improved.  Would averaging the last 21-27 hours (or something like that) be better?  If you pick a point in time such as 0:00 GMT, then at 1:00 GMT that's only reflecting a 1 hour change

180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] Should CoinMarketCap.com re-list Ripple? on: December 22, 2013, 05:02:04 PM
When Ripple was first listed on CMC, I received a large amount of requests to remove it from the default listings.  Times have changed and was wondering if the community still feels the same way.  Personally, I feel that more information is better so I would be for listing it again, but I want to see what the community thinks.

If you vote 'No', please give a reason in the thread.
