I love suprnova what a generous offer, and plenty of newbie accounts endorsing the promotion. unfortunately mining at zero fees or not at suprnova has always netted me a marked decrease in coins mined vs other pools. never failed to fail.

Guys, I have a system with 5 GPUs, 3 R9 290 and 2 RX 480, all using usb risers with sata/molex adapter. He's been standing about 3 months 24/7. Today I smelled something burnt and found what is in the picture. Just the two that energized the RX 480. Do the RX 480 continue to extract more than pci_ex can support? Is there something wrong with my PSU? My RIG: Asrosk H81 Pro BTC Intel Celeron G1820 8GB RAM 3 R9 290 + 2 RX 480(all stock) USB risers Cougar GX 800 + Corsair CX 750 duude.. this is a typical newbie mistake. dont worry it happens. you need cooler cables. try to lookup "mining cables"... they will come in cooler colors, black is the worse ones. try to find ones with all white cables. put a fan pointed right at your cables until you fix this problem! unless you have the blue cables like me, they are watercooled. no fan needed. I know a guy who tried the watercooled route just by soaking all his plugs in a slightly saline solution of water overnight to get some good marinating effect before plugging them in. I would NOT recommend it.

According to whattomine.com ... ZEC is still up there. So I left the 390s to continue selling ZEC hash at Nicehash for BTC. I made a handsome sum of profits on Philip's previous ETH tips. So I will buy some ZEC on Polo today Hope it will be a Merry Christmas present and enough funds to get a unit of that Panda Miner! just I was about to give up on ZEC... this happens.... well looking forward to see how much more my 480s and 390s can run. You must have low electricity price. Mining XMR and ZEC were very "nice" to my power bill - still expensive but not as expensive as mining ETH - highest power consumption and most heat be grateful you don't have memories scrypt mining.

I did some tweaks on both of my Tahiti (HD7950) cards and I get around 200H/s per card. Makes 400H/s in total. I'm pretty happy with these results. Thanks Claymore for this great program. Keep up the good work!
can you post your tweaks? i get this speed from clocking 1050/1500 and running intensity 6.. no secret. have had use a bit more voltage in bios since last claymore version though.

Personally, I am taking advantage of this time in mining history and am buying up all the 280x's I can afford. There will be a time when I am glad I did.
i have a 7970 thats due for another re-baking if you're interested. $50

I have ton of dead Nvidia video cards, especially that EVGA brand, 2 years max. I have been used and abused ton of AMD video cards and none is dead. I promised myself to never ever buy Nvidia chip video card again.
Want to share the specs and how you used those cards? E.g. approx. capacity usage and how many hours did they last before they died? How many alternatives have you tried and what's your personal most durable one now? Nothing modify, just plug and play stuffs. A couple EVGA 9800GTX, a couple EVGA 8600GT, a few 8600 none EVGA, all dead within a couple years. I have 4 computers at our house. My impression at this point is to preventing Nvidia at all cost. I have to agree with him there. I've been in the IT field for many years and Nvidia based cards fry a LOT more often than AMD/ATI Cards as far as I can remember back. Just by normal use, heck even swapping them into different computers they can just get zapped by static E . Never had this happen on AMD/ATI cards/ I like how they (Nvidias)are usually faster, more stable but I think that has been all driver related f-ups from AMD. i cant speak about nvidia quality but i have been pretty hard on some of my older amd gpu's and they have stood the test of time. in the post pentium early days amd had a bad rep about burning up when trying to overclock too much or play with frequencies in a haphazard fashion.. looks like they have learned from earlier designs and created a very robust product in result.

well f2pool is PPS so no luck factor there. you are payed for each share accepted.
i have had some pretty bad results with suprnova.. wish f2pool would offer SSL for those willing to suffer dev fees but concerned about MITM mitigation.
Not exactly true. The payout was very low a few days ago. That is because it did not hit many blocks. not sure you are unfamiliar with what PPS means, or if this is a troll from a low activity shill account. PPS means there are constant calculations against difficulty and share size so each submission is rewarded minus the pool fee. regardless of how many blocks the pool scores. you are Paid Per Share. all these people "counting shares" on dwarf and flypool should simply check difficulty charts for a given day and pull up a calculator for what they should be pulling in. their counted shares mean nothing if payout is sub optimal. if you're not being rewarded at least .08 ZEC per 1000h/s these past few days, even after fees.. you're getting bent over pretty bad. 0.1 ZEC per 1000h/s is more like it after some modest dev and pool fees.

I'm so tired of freeloaders expecting to get everything they whine for.
There are two points of view. First is about dev fee as such and its protection. I do not argue about it, I agree that every work should be paid somehow. Second is what good was added for mining and crypto world by introducing SSL layer on top of plain stratum. There is nothing good: - more CPU overhead (without reason) - no direct impact; - more latency for bigger packets (without reason) - there is an impact on stale shares, people already complained here, read the thread; - more work for pool operators (not a lot, but also with no reason); - more obscurity and doubt in general. So this only adds DRM, and nothing more for miners. Actually I expected something like this after some lamer posted how to break dev fee with Optiminer. But I expected to see a private channel to some dev server (proxy) to collect dev fee. It would be harder for developer, but much better for community. But the way it is done now, sigh... Next step would be to close the source of cryptocurrency... Why not? Bitcoin was open and is open, and it has a value. Coins with something to hide (being that miners or core) are way to nothing. are you seriously bringing back "lamer"? i like it. as for the outcry about ssl, i think claymore is acting to protect his clientele which he is obligated to do considering the profits earned in such a small community. looks like the days of leeching are numbered.

what is speeds rx 480 4GB vs 8GB?
I tested the XFX Rx480 4 and 8GB versions and there was a miniscule difference at stock speeds. 215-218sol/s (4GB) vs 207-222sol/s (8GB). There was a higher variance though. Using Claymore v9.0 IMO The rx470 with a custom BIOS pulls almost the same (I get 212sol/s) but at a bit less power and much less initial price and is a better buy. i heard the 8 gig cards usually have a better quality of ram when it comes to overclocking. no testing on my part, grabbed all reference 8 gig and have not looked back.

why the pissing contest about value of SSL with mining?
let the users try it and compare their profits.

i have one 7970 that registers as a 280x.. tried all kinds of over/underclock and intensity settings and it performs worse than my 7950's.
any way claymore to override certain preset tweeks that are making cards under perform?

Dual-X R9 280X 3G D5
win7 4 Gb RAM, 16 Gb virtual RAM radeon software ver 16.9.2 zecminerx64.exe -zpool ssl suprnova -i 8 hashrate avg 200 h/s hashrate do not match between pools and my rig and always : share rejected 5
is this normal ?
Yes. Pools steal shares from you. The only zcash pool that reports and pays correctly what is expected is dwarfpool. that's quite the rabbit hole you've started your way down.not that i don't agree. we are executing closed source code written by an anonymous author that is coincidentally named after a device that sits idle until activation at which point it explodes and wreaking havoc all around it. that author is being payed handsomely for this privilege. funny how a few shills and largely clueless mining community can lead up to the current state of things.

i have experimented and 8 gig gpu's (or at least rx480's) will not hash with 1 gig system ram.. possibly 2 gig also i didnt take notes it was more of a lark really to try.
they dont crash though just hash at 0h/s
no reason to mine with less than 4 gig ram these days. and four is enough for the hobbyist miner.

Are f2pool can using ssl?
dont think f2pool stands for that kind of stuff.. kind of a no frills pool but cant hurt to bring up as a feature request in their thread.. its one of the main bitcoin pools so their thread is in the bitcoin mining section. i would bring it up but i post there far too often as it stands.

has v9 killed anyones card or rendered them temporarily (a few reboots) comatose?
are the spikes in power sync'd with the "donation" portion of the mining?
|
|

9 has some serious stability problems.
oh god. 8 was so much better than this. what happened?
I was experiencing same issues with V8 but with less rigs in total. V7 was way stable than v8 and v9 V9.0 has no stability issues! Your rigs do! Increase GPU voltage or lower clocks!
this actually helps even a broken clock is correct two minutes out of every day referring to the forums signal to noise ratio more rather than Preludes track record of course..

Yea. The spikes are quite real. One of my pc's has a 730w psu powering a rx 480 and a 280x. This combination has been running stable for months without problems (even eth/sia dual mining). A few minutes ago, the pc rebooted and said "a power surge was detected - press F1 to continue". There is nothing else running on the system except claymore v9. there are crashes often leading upto the donation mining portion of mining which makes me wonder if some dual mining mechanism isnt triggered during the donation period which is more taxing on the system. how old is your power supply? did it you manage tog et up and running again without issue? My PSU is new (Thermaltake SmartSE 730W). System is running again - stable so far. Mainboard, CPU and RAM are new too. My farm is littered with older gpu's so i share an evga supernova between multiple rigs on the 6/8pin side of the gpu's and leave the risers and gpu0 powered fully by psu plugged into the motherboard (usually around 500 watt) I have yet to experience any spikes that would take my system down but my motherboards are mainly higher end (but outdated) asus which may increase my immunity to this phenomenon. Some of those with the solely next gen gpu's may benefit from this strategy also if spikes continue to result in a power flutter.

What miner gives the best hash for Ethereum on a rx480 8gb?
still genoil by a small margin, but claymore offers dual mining. this thread is no longer relevant as the new zec mining software makes simultaneous zec/eth ineffective.
