161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin create an opportunity to reduce poverty? on: December 19, 2023, 10:03:18 PM
It can and it has in the past. Bitcoin is one of those investment ventures you can take with as little money as you have, and with a little bit of stroke of luck and proper timing end up with not necessarily a fortune, but money that would last you for a long enough time. And the even better thing now is that, compared to 6 years ago bitcoin is a much safer cryptocurrency to invest now risk-wise. Cause no matter what happens you have a safety net that's backed with a strong foundation of millions of people and years in the market. So yeah, bitcoin can create wealth and financial stability to anyone willing to take the risk, as with any other type of investment venture out there. Only difference is that you can make the choice even if you're a minimum wage earner.

163  Economy / Economics / Re: New business idea. on: December 17, 2023, 11:29:05 PM
Before starting a business, what you must instill in yourself is to have a strong intention and determination to advance your business consistently. And apart from that, you also have to have a good strategy to be able to compete and you also have to have good quality goods and good marketing and affordable prices.
And most successful business people must be able to get through the first 3-5 years of struggle to start their business until it becomes big or advanced, and this must be thought about first. Especially capital, and other problems that will be faced and so on, you have to think about it and be ready to take risks not to give up.
Exactly. I have seen people come up with revolutionary products and business models only to fail so horribly because they can't back it up with proper determination and heart. The product's not gonna sell itself for a couple of years, maybe even decades let's be real here, so as the business owner you are held responsible for making sure that no matter what happens, long as you really believe in this idea of yours, you're not gonna quit it. I think OP's got the makings of a fine businessman, and if things go well he might even make it big. Don't let capital or whatever the fuck break you from this dream, cause if there's a will, there's always a way. Hoping to hear more about this amazing product idea you've put out OP.
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jpg monkeys are making the fees impossible? Just use a meme coin! on: December 17, 2023, 10:59:12 PM
Been talking about this as an option for people who don't mind switching networks just so they can avoid the fees. The thing is that there's nothing much we can do about the whole network congestion situation, since at the end of the day we chose this back when we're warring about blocksizes. I myself use a different network/coin when transacting nowadays, just makes it easier to track in my opinion, and sometimes you get the off-chance that you placed your money on a coin that's bound for price hike, so you get that bonus profit too.

Anyways, until we finally find a fix regarding bitcoin's blocksize and all that shit about scalability, we'll have to make do and scrape for solutions ourselves.
165  Other / Meta / Re: How do I fix this ? on: December 17, 2023, 10:28:25 PM
Internet, check your internet provider, although bitcointalk's not banned in ISPs anyway, but I'm guessing you can look into that as well. Also as some people in here have already pointed out, longer wait times happen because of the topic size (how many people interacted with it). I often experience this myself when I'm visiting topics with more than 20+ pages of replies. So I guess you should look into topics that aren't so much congested if you want to immediately get into posting/replying.

Oh, sometimes the site's wonky too, I believe we already had a couple site-wide outages in this year alone, and we might experience a couple more since the site's pretty much the same as it was from 10 years ago with minimal changes.
166  Economy / Economics / Re: Overleveraging, cheating, shadow margin, prostitution, crime on: December 17, 2023, 09:47:05 PM
What do you mean by "knows your internet" and "leverage your holdings"?

The blockchain is public, but without the private keys you cannot prove ownership or perform any action on the wallet.

- Jay -
Transaction hashes can be used against you I suppose. the blockchain is public and sometimes that is all that is needed to make things roll. Although of course, hackings considered you won't get anywhere knowing someone's public address, you still need to have access to their stuff before you can even make magic happen. But in OP's case where overleveraging (I don't even know what he means but I guess it involves making people believe that they are you by showing transaction hashes showing how good you are at trading or how many coins you manage) is taken into account, be it a stretch as it may seem, I think we still deserve some form of security and anonymity one way or another.
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No risk no reward on: December 16, 2023, 11:56:20 PM
Before making an investment always put it at the back of your mind that the higher you stake the more higher your income will be, In this case is like we do forget one thing that it's not about winning all time but actually loss also. When you admit it that you earn and at the same time you might loss. That means you are also capable of making a run into the crypto currency world.
That's why it always good to read and understand something before you engage yourself into it, or neither trying to introduce someone into it for example if your investment is on (BTC) make sure you have learn more about it.
But it always about risk and i do believe everyone knows whenever there's no risk no reward.
I see your situation and I’m willing to raise you an even better proposition my friend. Beyond worrying about how much you’d earn in the future, you should also worry about how mich you’d be able to put in consistently into this investment venture. Doesn’t have to be bitcoin, just anything that involves consistently putting your money onto something. As long as you’re able to put consistent money into the venture and by consistently I mean whatever happens, you should be good to go.

The thing is that when you’re investing money, you shouldn’t suppose or think of it as something like savings that you could just take out for when the rainy days come. Investment is something you do to create consistent revenue streams beyond your regular profit stream.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is wiser? on: December 16, 2023, 10:55:56 PM
At the current market condition and having bull run in mind, these persons have $10,000 to invest.

  • Mr. Bob goes 100% with bitcoin.
  • Miss Alice goes 50% bitcoin and 50% random altcoins.
  • Mr. theymos goes with bitcoin but $100 weekly DCA.
I say as long as you placed a stake at bitcoin and cryptocurrencies as early as possible, you wouldn’t need to really worry about much since the river’s run its course at this point. So if you’re asking who’s wiser between the three, I’d say both of them have been as wise as they can in theor own way given their circumstances. There’s a lot of things you hae to keep in mind when you’re investing in bitcoin, or any cryptocurrency for that matter. One of the most important being that you have to know what your capacity for risk and affordability is. Theymos in this example perhaps might not have invested just as much money as bob and alice, but if that’s what works for him given the circumstances, and he’s still able to invest money in bitcoin, I think that’s a massive win regardless.
169  Economy / Economics / Re: Pay discrimination on: December 16, 2023, 10:21:48 PM
I understand your statements. Now I guess it’s time you take the other side of this white collar vs. black collar debate. First and foremost, you have to understand that physical labor isn’t specifically the only thing that determines whether a job’s to be paid by the bulk or not. If anything, the brainpower is what matters most since they are the ones that make the market turn and work so these people who aren’t able to be as fortunate as those with white collar jobs could still get their employment and help the economy.

Don’t get me wrong, I stand for labor rights as well since I understand just how underpaid blue-collar workers are, but I don’t think it should be at the expense of the other spectrum’s misfortune. If anything, both salaries should be raised especially when you consider those at the upper echelons earning more than they have business with.
170  Economy / Economics / Re: Sea Piracy, it's effect on the local economy on: December 16, 2023, 09:40:20 PM
I don’t think they have that much adverse effect to marine trading/faring since people and navigators have made contingencies to avoid these pirates, particularly those close to Somalia since they are the most notorious ones out there. Whatever effect they may pose, I think it’s only isolated for that party. For instance, if a private carrier ship’s hijacked for its contents and goods, I suppose the only one that’s gonna be in the ringer for that is the private company itself, and perhaps the local government held responsible for negotiating with these pirates if possible.
171  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you still use Banks ? on: December 15, 2023, 11:43:55 PM
I'm part of the select few (although not really few so to speak) who still has a foot in the banking industry. Most of the money that I have on file is stored and saved in fiat, while the money that I have in bitcoin and crypto, I use for investments and for passive income. The thing is that, hateful and inferior as banks are, they offer something that you can't find in bitcoin, and that is "insurance". You find a bitcoin wallet/platform provider that offers that kind of option for you and I'll immediately switch all of my assets into bitcoin, til then my money stays where it is. And to top it all off, the rest of the planet is still working in dollars, so if you want to live a fulfilled life and enjoy the perks of your income, might as well increase your credit limit by letting the banks trust you as time passes by.
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers claim $2 million in Bitcoin after stealing Insomniac game data on: December 15, 2023, 11:21:57 PM
So they want to get the 50 bitcoins anyway, either by paying the ransom or by selling the data themselves. What I hate about this kind of news is that bitcoin is in the media linked to scammers and hackers, which does not give a good image. Just as the media does not usually help because when the price was lower they criticized Bukele for buying bitcoin for El Salvador and now they are silent. I am referring to the main mass media.

Well the thing is, if bitcoin was non-existent in this case these hackers will still find a way to smuggle the goods and the money without having to worry about getting caught. Bitcoin just so happened to be the perfect money order for this situation and I hate that it's getting the brunt of the blow despite the fact that the hackers are supposed to be the ones that are getting the flak. Like do you hate the gun for allowing people to shoot other people? No, we hate the people behind the firearm, why can't we apply the same principle to something that is as simple as bitcoin? I just can't wrap my fucking head around it lol.

Insomniac's already in a loss here, whether they give in to the demands or not their source codes already toast. I just hope they learn their lessons like CD projekt red and actually invest in a more robust security system .
173  Economy / Economics / Re: Growth mindset versus fixed mindset on: December 15, 2023, 10:53:31 PM
I have a hot take regarding this and I expect a few eyebrows raising after I talk about this hot take of mine. We all know that there are instances when growing and improving is the best course of action to take especially if we're talking about getting that sweet-sweet promotion/raise. But there's perks to keeping a low profile and staying on a linear path as well you know.

For instance, scientists aren't really expected to up in ranks and become head for a couple of years, to which they'd spend most of this time actually doing the same basic task which is to conduct research, perform experiments and trials, tally results against their hypotheses, until they get into a breakthrough. Do we expect them to up their game immediately, let alone for a couple of years? No we don't.

I feel like I'm getting off into a tangent here but basically, what I say is that there's perks and benefits to linear/fixed mindset as you guys are putting it. If that's what keeps the person afloat then so be it.
174  Economy / Economics / Re: Food for thought on: December 15, 2023, 10:27:57 PM
In the Philippines, that's a massive staple. Most people who have worked 9-5 here would have retail stores available as well to support them, and since people here loved the sachet culture, these stores are always booming regardless of the economic state of the country. In any case this also entails that you have to be on the pulse with the market trends and stuff if you want to make it out alive cause there's no way you'd get away with a willy-nilly business idea no matter how much money and marketing you put into it.

Basically all I really wanna say is that more than having a side hustle you work on, you also have to be well aware of what this side hustle you're seeking is all about so you don't waste money and effort.
175  Economy / Economics / Re: choose an option on: December 14, 2023, 11:40:56 PM
Anyone who knew what bitcoin could do will choose the bitcoin option all the way, in a few short decades your money could easily multiply manifold without you even having a single thing to do about it besides watch the market closely and time your buys. Although the other options that do not involve winning the lottery aren't so bad either. The housing market could collapse at any moment but either way you have a roof above your head which you can rent out if you already have one anyway, and still earn dividends from. Gold isn't a bad option as well since over time gold has history of increasing in value so it's not like you're at a loss with that particular asset. So yeah, everything that doesn't involve you getting taxed so much like winning the lottery is good enough.
176  Economy / Economics / Re: Best country to cash out few mil of USD crypto? on: December 14, 2023, 11:08:26 PM
El Salvador is indeed a haven for Bitcoin users to conduct any transactions, including withdrawing large amounts. There's no tax, even if you're a foreign investor residing in El Salvador. Nayib Bukele has truly turned El Salvador into a haven for Bitcoin users. Although I haven't personally visited there, several news reports on the legal adoption of Bitcoin in El Salvador confirm all of this.

As long as the crypto comes from money that doesn't violate the law, you are safe to withdraw. However, it can turn into a significant problem if the money you withdraw is proven to be from an illegal source.
Just cause they are crypto friendly doesn't mean the tax department's not going to be on their asses. They may not bat an eye while it's still crypto but soon as you start converting them in legal tender they'd be hot on your tail, as in the case with a couple personalities in the past.

El Salvador doesn't seem that great either as the country to cash your crypto earnings, for the most part, yes, they have crypto access that allows you to use your crypto willy-nilly but at the same time, i don't think they have the financial capability to actually support a thousand whales cashing out their money on the daily, and not spending it in the country's internal economy mind you.

Look elsewhere, the money's gotta be kept still after you convert it into crypto Switzerland is a good choice, French I've heard great things about. Philippines should be a good country too because of less strict laws and a pretty indifferent outlook at crypto.
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did we forget about the lighning network? on: December 14, 2023, 10:13:24 PM
The Lightning Network was literally the technology needed to enable Bitcoin to be adopted as legal tender at nation-state level.
El Salvador made bitcoin a legal tender in 2021, but the country has just adopted lightning network some weeks back. Lightning network makes bitcoin transaction to be cheap and faster which is the reason it was created. If there are more people making use of lightning network, also the mempool will be less congested if compared to if lightning network is not existing.
But did it really meet the public's demands is the question we should be asking ourselves. It's good enough that we have a premium option like that which would allow us to cheapen and hasten our transactions but if it was that good, why is the lightning network dying? It's because it's just not as amazing as it was made out to be in the past.

If we're looking for layer 2 solutions, we should look elsewhere besides the lightning network, the intent is great and the execution, I guess you can't say anything that's bad about it, but there has to be something off about it for people to not reliably and consistently use it for all their transactions cause let's face it, if it were the case we wouldn't have massive congestions like what happened when Ordinals was at a massive high in hype.
178  Economy / Economics / Re: my mum want to make a lot of money, money can fix everything, me hurt not import on: December 14, 2023, 09:19:03 PM
I feel so bad about you cause honestly I was in the same position as you were a few years back.

The nagging and the constant feeling of making you feel like you should be listening to them instead of taking care of your welfare is just something you can't bear sometimes. In your case, I say you should look into fixing said truck first, no matter how much it would cost since at the same time, your mother should know as much that taking care of your main source of income should be paramount at this point. You inform her that if she wants you to keep driving the truck on her behalf, she must fork money enough for the truck to be fixed cause at the end of the day this would prolong the truck's lifetime anyway and would help with making sure that you guys stay afloat.

At this point you can't leave her alone, she's still your mom, but if you guys want to stay together and afloat, a lot of compromise and talking to will be required.
179  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcointalk as a means of Job & Wealth Creation for Youths in Nigeria on: December 13, 2023, 10:01:24 PM
Bitcointalk.org has become a blessing a large number of unemployed youths in most low income countries around the globe.

From my observation, Bitcointalk.org has helped in creating wealth creation for thousands of unemployed youths.

This has helped in reducing unemployment and in turn boasting the Nigerian economy through Wealth Creation.

Thanks to the originator of this life saving platform that has engaged millions around the World.

Truthfully, platforms like this has helped in reducing crime rate in many Countries by engaging mostly the young generation that would have resorted to crime.

I have seen so many struggling youths, now financially self reliant and helping others around their communities with resources made via this platform.

Kudos to the inventor(s) of this great platform. 🙏👍👏✍️
While I see the intent and I’m well aware of what it offers (for crying out loud I also benefit from the stuff that I’m getting in this forum), I can’t help but feel like this is nothing but a skewed vision of what bitcointalk could really provide. Like yes it’s good and all that you’re earning money from this forum and it’s somehow helping you stay afloat despite the fact that you’re unemployed, but you know well that not everyone’s gonna be given a chance to have that privilege here, moreso every Nigerian for that matter.

And to top it all off, before this forum was monetized, this is a treasure trove of information that you could use to step up your crypto game and it still is, perhaps explore that benefit as well instead of looking for monetary gains cause as I said, at the end of the day not everyone’s gonna have the chance to be accepted to Signature Campaigns here, as well as other prpfitable ventures in this forum. It’s more advantageous if you bank on stuff that will consistently make you money.
