1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Banks are once again up to their old tricks - Is your money safe? on: March 16, 2023, 06:19:14 PM
After the FTX incident, most people who are not throughly Bitcoin believers and don't know the full purpose of decentralization run back to the banking system as the safest. Now that the SBV has collapsed, people are calculating whether to choose Bitcoin as the safest way to save or not. One incident instilled different kinds of fear in the lives of the masses, especially those who actually didn't know what they wanted exactly.

No matter how we rephrase the situation the fact will still remain the same, we will still need the banking system in one way or the other, that's if the world economy must stand then Banks needs to keep on functioning.

Bitcoin is the safest for we Bitcoiners, just as @Earnonvictor have said if we all run to Bitcoin what do you think will happen to the world economy?

We are all responsible for our security be it crypto savings or Bank savings, even having a safe deposit box in our home will also attract thefts to our home knowing that we are now saving in our home.

To me Decentralized system and crypto in general to some point is the best option but am also not completely against the banking sectors.
Exactly, this divide and cognitive dissonance has been fucking with so many people's heads nowadays, specially those who dipped their toes both in banking and cryptocurrencies like a lot of us in this forum, including myself. Although for me, the case with SVB failing, though a testament to how feeble the foundations of the banking system are, is an isolated case that isn't really indicative that the whole banking system is going to fail sooner or later, although it could cascade series of bank runs and collapses in the industry which could then lead to the collapse of the banking system. In any case, the economic crisis has been held on for too long it's finally seeping through the cracks of the barricades. Good thing crypto's still a thing otherwise a lot of us here are fucked royally like the collapse in 2008.
1062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you interpret the fluctuation of Bitcoin price ? on: March 16, 2023, 05:31:39 PM
Well to me, this has been the most volatile bitcoin has ever been in its 10+ years run. Some may say the 2020 is a much more chaotic year but then again up until 2021 the currency remained rising in value which is something that is really expected of it during those times. This time however, with the SVB failing and many other shenanigans in the real world taking its course, one would've assumed bitcoin is supposed to drop in value along with these current events, but as it stands today bitcoin is rising in value, even went so far as to jump from 20k to 26k despite the fact that SVB, one of the "most trusted" banks in the US has failed. Just weird times man, and people are saying bitcoin's not as financially secure as investing money in a bank.
1063  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Random Number Generator and it's importance in Online Casinos on: March 16, 2023, 04:29:17 PM
Did you see the one streaming session with the co-owner of Stake.com ..namely Eddie, where he used the Google random generator to pick winners and then one of the gamblers showed him that he can pick the next number, before it was ran on the random generator?

Yes, it is flawed.... if you know the first number that are drawn, so it is very important to "refresh" the page.. after each random number are drawn. The numbers are still random, but the next numbers can be pre-determined, if you continue without refreshing the page.  Roll Eyes

I still trust the RNG, but I also trusted Google random generator... and someone found a way to exploit it.  Roll Eyes
The thing with random is, there's no true random in nature. And true randomness does not exist at least in practice. There had been multiple scientific papers that suggests ways to reach true random but none was ever able to successfully write one that relates it to the real world. As for the hacker that was able to seemingly predict what number comes up for all the draws made by the CEO of stake, I think he was able to tap into the mechanism that generates random numbers for google, make a similar model or program for him, with all the patterns and manners as well, and had it run in his computer, which caused him to predict the string of numbers Stake's CEO was pulling through google's RNG or something.

Or I could be wrong.
1064  Economy / Economics / Re: less risk or big profit? on: March 15, 2023, 09:23:54 PM
For me, your capacity for risks in the investing industry should be directly in accordance to your age and your capacity to work and re-earn lost money if shit hits the fan. Let's say you're a fresh grad looking to invest on crypto, you have substantial knowledge and a considerable amount of money to boot, I would suggest you take higher risks because even if you did lose the money in the process, which I hope you don't, you'd still be able to work and earn the money back rather easily than let's say someone who just got into retirement and is already on his retirement fund. You can't risk losing more money anymore at that point because that's literally calculated to at least last you until you die, so for me. The younger you are, the more risks you should take, as for someone who's already old enough, I would suggest taking things a little easier and slower.
1065  Economy / Economics / Re: With the present economic outlook, do you think that this is good advise? on: March 15, 2023, 08:42:48 PM
I was having a chat with a senior mentor in the financial sector and I asked him what advise he had for recent graduates, he said despite the high rate of unemployment, they should avoid a small margin business and instead acquire a skill or learn a trade where there is a reasonable profit margin. Because the effort you put into a small margin profit business if paired with acquiring a skill will pay more in the future. With the present economic outlook, do you think that this is a good advise?
You can never go wrong with acquiring skills that offer profit. The economy may die, cash may become obsolete, but as long as you can offer up something to the table that not a lot of people could, you'll be save and thriving. This is a really good financial advise if you'll ask me, something that not a lot of GenZ financial advisors on Tiktok or any other social media site ever had the second-thought of suggesting, well maybe because the acquisition of skills is being downplayed right now in favor of owning micro-businesses and outsourcing people with skills that you are looking for, which is still a great thing, but in financial hardships like what's to come in the future, is definitely something that will not thrive that well.
1066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Ponzi Schemes - People are confused. on: March 15, 2023, 07:34:45 PM
Thanks for fighting the good fight and setting the record straight, but this discussion has been up since time immemorial, that at this point all that one really needs to disprove this "bitcoin = ponzi" logic is to get their lazy asses of the couch and do a quick google search. Some people have been very enthusiastic about this debate back in 2018 when this is still a pressing topic but as what some people in this thread have mentioned, there are other more important topics at hand that should be given focus.
1067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Europol Sezied 1909 BTC from "Chipmixer" on: March 15, 2023, 06:35:01 PM
Sad stuff for the bitcointalk community, as their campaign's revered as one of the biggest campaigns here. In any case, I don't really have much of a say in this other than I fear that they may go after other mixers in the market, because as of now what I get from this coordinated pincher attack against chipmixer is that the government sees cryptomixers as "bitcoin mix, bitcoin can't be traced anymore, mixer bad, mixer money laundering" awooga bullshit.
Which begs the question of why in the hell are they specifically attacking mixers when the problem is still at large? Scammers, thieves, all of those entities still roam free and are still availably tricking people out of their hard-earned money! Stopping mixers from operating isn't gonna solve the problem, and for me this is just a lame attempt just to say "hey, we're doing something please praise us".
I can't help but ponder the timing of this take down.

We have a US bank going under, which they say is the biggest collapse since 2008 financial crisis (that led to creation of bitcoin) and we also have bitcoin price starting to rise as the US banking system is feared to fail catastrophically in the near future.
All of a sudden Justice Department decides to shut down a very old business while releasing a statement listing all the negative/illegal things they claim has been done using this service (which they are actually saying is done using bitcoin).

I don't believe in coincidences Wink
This too, now that you pointed it out, I'm beginning to formulate some conspiracy theory in my brain that leads me to think that they are attacking mixers and will continue to attack the industry to tip the balance of power in their favor once again, since all of their banks are falling down under whilst bitcoin isn't showing signs of stopping.
1068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Researching Bitcoin for a Presentation - coming here to fact check on: March 15, 2023, 05:41:51 PM
You could've done better to describe what the aim of your presentation is going to be, so at least we can chip in valuable information based on what you are looking for. But as someone who did a bitcoin presentation in my economics class back then too, I think I'd let you in on how I did it.

The basic flow of how my bitcoin presentation went is --->history---->intended use------>how it is being used now------->extra details.

For History, you can take it from the main guy himself, his profile is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3;sa=showPosts

for everything else, a quick google search will do.

Hope this helps!
1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Early bitcoin investment for my baby on: March 14, 2023, 09:13:14 PM
I think this is so prudent of you, though it is something that is really expected of responsible parents. If you will, I really suggest investing on a 401k for your baby as well. It compounds consistently and by the time your baby has retired, they are already set for life and they can even pass the wealth down to their kids if they ever decide to bear kids, apart from this teach them how to manage money from a very young age as well. It always helps to actually teach them young rather than bide time and wait just because "it's gonna go across their heads anyway". Teach them young and have them become financially literate and ready, that's one of the best things you can impart to them besides being a really great parent.
1070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel when people tells their story on bitcoin on: March 14, 2023, 08:31:26 PM
Well a little touched for some, especially when it's a story about how bitcoin changed their lives for the better and how they thanked bitcoin for being the catalyst or sometimes the very reason they are what they are right now. I've been in the same spot as well, just some snotty-nosed brat in a neighborhood you won't expect any good's gonna come from with all the violence and all that other bad stuff, but with bitcoin coming around to help me, it really changed my life for the better. Was able to help a lot of people, change the lives of many and is now a walking and talking proof of bitcoin's capacity to help people. It may not always stay like this and bitcoin may fall in grace in the future, but it's not gonna change the fact that without it ever existing, things wouldn't be the same for me, at least I think.
1071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is, how easy it is to scam people on: March 14, 2023, 07:52:16 PM
people make dumb mistakes like that because well, they are dumb, no question. But that doesn't warrant you putting them on the spotlight for some weird post to gain clout in this forum. Although I do not think that is your intention really. In any case, scams don't cater to everyone, they have their specific target demographics, and would only ever work for that specific set of people. That's why us, the Nigerian Prince scam is a laughingstock, but for others, they see it as a ticket to a destiny-changing opportunity, only for the small amount of a couple thousand dollars. Scams work because there are people who are gullible. How to fix this? information. Proper information provided by the authority or whoever is really generous to spare time and effort in the case of crypto world is what we need to eradicate people's ignorance and therefore stop scammers from scamming as well.

No scammer if no one could be scammed.
1072  Other / Off-topic / Re: Revolutionizing Artificial Intelligence: GPT-4 with 100 Trillion Parameters on: March 14, 2023, 07:11:20 PM
Still too far from the technological singularity a lot of us tech visionaries are hoping for but hey we're getting there. Be it paid for or available for free (Which I think it should be), I still think getting a more advanced AI version of ChatGPT is somethign that would still prove beneficial for everyone. With how reassuring the AI community is of the ethical standards and the morality of AI creation, it pays to know that even if it were to receive intellect higher than any of us in time, we can rest assured that the chance of it going rogue is a little unlikely, but we still have long ways to go prove and even get there to warrant this discussion in the first place. For me, in summary I see the effort in advancing AI as a win, if it becomes the herald of a new form of humans in the future then so be it, we're all for advancing ourselves anyways.
1073  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and Rich on: March 14, 2023, 06:24:13 PM
Because of debt, and how each of these people see it. Rich people sees and uses debt as an asset. They use it to invest more, to expand their businesses, to accumulate more assets and become richer through profits, since they are doing this for investments, they can easily set the collateral as the assets themselves if shit hits the fan, and so debt is paid, and the rich gets richer. on the other hand, poor people sees debt as a way to buy more liabilities. How many times have you seen regular people taking out car loans, house loans, loans to get the newest smartphone, to travel to different places, and all luxurious stuff they wouldn't be able to normally get without debt? The fact that they do this, and then pay the debt off with their salary instead of investing it and reaping the profits off is what makes the poor poorer in my opinion. This is the most concise breakdown of money management really.
1074  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gamble continuously because have surrendered to the situation on: March 13, 2023, 09:14:04 PM
Sunk Cost Fallacy, the heuristic that just because you're too deep into whatever you're doing, you have no resolution other than getting your wins back through that method. I would highly suggest you drag him out to a nearby rehab center because he clearly needs it but is just in denial, and have him be treated from his addiction because not only is he ruining his own life, he's also putting his kid's life at the line by being a belligerent father who knows nothing but to gamble. If you're really this guy's good friend, You'd know for sure what to do in this situation, regardless if he hates me for it or whatever. The man's too in denial to admit that he needs help and his statement that he'd stay like that forever because nothing else is waiting for him is just too depressing.
1075  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: March 13, 2023, 08:31:03 PM
I think renting has its place in the demographic, specifically for people who are frequently moving out and staying in, as well as people who aren't that well-off to buy their own properties. I don't see rent as an utter waste of money, cos at the end of the day you could still live in it and unless you're paying humongous fees for a leaky rundown apartment/flat, it's not much of a waste. Are there better ways for you to look for a house? Yes, living with your parents is a pretty common situation nowadays, and you can pay them rent for less than what you would normally pay other people for (I guess), but it's a worthy spend for me, I don't see it as a waste of money because at the end of the day, you still get something out of it. Not everything has to be an investment especially if you're already living as frugal as you can be.
1076  Economy / Economics / Re: Try to save money while you still can, will you ? on: March 13, 2023, 07:45:12 PM
Hardship or not it's always best to save up and divvy your savings into different types. nowadays you can't just make a super savings account that would handle all your needs like emergency or investments, that's a death wish and would almost always spell failure for your savings. Either create one for conventional savings, and another for emergency, or basically everything else but make sure you have a separate savings account you can use for when shit hits the fan. That would almost always ensure that rain or shine, and even if you deplete your savings to its last penny, you still have a few other savings and you will not be zeroed out.
1077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto breaks Silence after 10 years | Shocking announcement on: March 13, 2023, 06:47:51 PM
Post is a meme as confirmed by the person who posted it themselves. Plus if I'm not mistaken, the way Satoshi writes his stuff is a little distinct. He writes with two spaces after each punctuation mark yeah, and the fact that he owns less merits in the image than what he has in this forum should be dead giveaways for people who thought this was real.

Although I'm a little curious as to what his reaction would be now that his "prophecies" as I put it is seemingly coming true. Bank runs executed against the biggest and arguably the most financial secure banks irl, collapse of economic power in the west among others, while bitcoin stays afloat with little to no signs of dropping in value. I bet he's laughing his ass off right now if he's still alive to see this.
1078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have failed too severely, time to give up? on: March 13, 2023, 05:56:33 PM
You know OP, you're stuck in a pretty nasty situation when it comes to teaching these people of Bitcoin and the benefits that it entails. For starters, you can't really expect people who can't even read nor write to know or have a care about anything that involves numbers. To them, money that goes to their hands is more powerful than any thingamajig you offer them, you can't convince them otherwise, plus they are already old so no novel stuff will effectively go across their heads. As for the youngsters, I see that these people are influenced by their elders and parents, or the case could also be that they have priorities set of their own, that are completely off from you teaching them about bitcoin and its wonders.

What I really suggest is that you pool whoever's willing to listen. Hold a poll or something in the town hall, have people list their names if they wanted to attend a seminar that would help them be more aware of bitcoin. I see that as the only way to really get people who will listen.

1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing bitcoin to local communities/villagers on: March 11, 2023, 08:56:43 PM
I applaud you for stepping up and realizing that there's more to this world than staying to your roots, as well as with helping your community with you introducing them to cryptocurrency and bitcoin. But OP I must confess, I am a little worried you might be putting bitcoin in a pedestal. There's risks involved in investing in bitcoin and I don't want you to become the village outcast or something when things don't go so well, especially considering we're still in a pretty tough situation right now courtesy of the bear market. I think you yourself should do more research moving forward before urging other people to your cause because what's crazier than a man that doesn't fight for anything is a man who does not know what he's fighting for. Invest in knowledge first, then invest in financial aspect later.
