161  Economy / Economics / Re: Anybody here trying to live bankless (using Bitcoin / cryptocurrencies)? on: May 02, 2020, 11:30:24 PM
I've been studying how to make my own electricity with solar panels, so I may avoid electricity bills, but there's water, and I was surprised to learn that I can pay my water bills with cash, but I have to go to the company office, which is more than 2 hours away. So, it's not very convenient... Last but not the least, there's property tax which definitely requires a bank account, and I can't imagine this to change in the foreseeable future.

Then I'm surprised nobody has talked about to get paid. I have several sources of income, but they all come via bank wires. And I can't change that.
162  Economy / Economics / Re: Get ready for more tax. Save your BTC! on: May 01, 2020, 04:38:00 PM
Of course, there will be a delay. Governments won't kill the economic recovery while it's starting.
Tax will only be raised in 12/18 months. So my advice is to withdraw your money from banks, where governments can see it, and buy BTC or valuables which governments cannot know anything about it. That's what I've been doing for years.
163  Economy / Economics / Re: Anybody here trying to live bankless? on: May 01, 2020, 04:30:14 PM
I don't know where you live, but in Europe, it's impossible to register a car, or buy a house without a bank account.
I also believe it's impossible to pay tax without one, but I have limited experience with tax.
164  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Prolonged border closure on: May 01, 2020, 04:23:36 PM
Border closures is real drama!
There are lots of people like me who are nomads, and who travel all the time.
I've been staying in the same f*cking country for nearly 3 months, that hadn't happened to me for more than 15 years!

Besides, I own 2 houses in 2 different countries where I can't travel to, because they've closed their borders...

Sad times.

imagine wanting just a 2 week vacation but being told you will have to remain in the destination countries hotel room for 2 weeks and no touring the area

It's pretty easy to imagine. I'm in a small studio where I was supposed to stay only a month, but I've been there more 3 months. I can't go to my houses, I can't visit my girlfriend, and she can't visit me. So border closures are really painful...

https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/ALL

It's of course difficult to say what's the real volume outside LBC and how much higher would LBC's volume be without all the KYC, banning cash trades and banning of the entire countries from using their site.

Thanks for this data.
It's quite obvious their trade volume is down since last October.
166  Economy / Services / Re: Anonymous crypto-loadable debit card - No KYC on: May 01, 2020, 04:13:58 PM
Such a service would be illegal in the European Union.

168  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can i sell Bitcoin to illegal immigrant in usa on: April 30, 2020, 11:49:04 PM
If you're a gun dealer, you must make sure your customer is having the proper license, but there are no such laws regarding BTC. You can trade with whoever you want. Besides, you're not supposed to know if the guy is legal or illegal, an American citizen or a foreigner. Plenty of citizens are of mixed race with an accent. You just can't tell what they are!
169  Economy / Economics / Re: Mining: Halving will destroy the half of us. on: April 30, 2020, 11:44:16 PM

look at what's happening with price vs hash rate lately. the price has gone through the roof---up to $9k from the $6000s last month---yet the hash rate is actually dropping now. can you believe that? a couple days ago, difficulty was set to increase ~2%. now it's set to drop ~1% and it looks like it will continue dropping further. miners seem to be shutting down in anticipation of the halving, no matter how bullish the market looks now.

the lack of blocks the past 2 days has begun causing quite the mempool backlog:

I know that so well!
BTC's price is just not rational.

Back to the subject, I used to believe small miners have disappeared years ago. If there's one left, I guess he/she has already switched to some altcoin.

170  Economy / Economics / Get ready for more tax. Save your BTC! on: April 30, 2020, 11:39:23 PM
We see it everywhere. To counter that coronavirus disaster, governments are spending money like there's no tomorrow. Budget's deficit will rise to new heights, never seen before except during war times. In US and EU, debts are staggering. The Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank are printing money faster that I'm writing it. If you ask what's next, I'm afraid there's only one answer.

In most countries, governments will have no other choice but to raise taxes. They will have to be smart to avoid killing the economy, but they will need to bring more money to balance their budget (or more likely to reduce their operating deficit).

As I haven't paid any income tax since 1997, that's all right with me, but I urge all fellow Bitcoiners to organize themselves, and to plan ahead to avoid the worst...

Or could I be wrong? There will be no more taxes next year?
171  Economy / Exchanges / Re: LocalBitcoins and Tier verification's on: April 30, 2020, 11:18:26 PM
My last transaction with LocalBitcoins was more than 2 years, cash with no KYC, those were great days!
I wonder if their trade volume has gone down since they modified their service so much.
172  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which 3 exchanges would you recommend? on: April 25, 2020, 04:06:06 PM
I can't recommend a single exchange!
I used to trade with LocalBitcoins, bitcoin.de and Kraken, but their conditions have changed, more KYC, and all for the worse.

Since I'm not planning to sell any BTC before it's more than $20,000, there's no hurry.

To newbies, I can only recommend to go to the exchange with the cheapest fees to send or receive bank wires.
173  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Any benefits to setting up Anonymous LLC? on: April 19, 2020, 11:59:25 AM
The question you shall ask yourself is what's next.
What when the anonymous company wants to transfer funds to an individual? Or a non anonymous business?

Most states or countries which allow anonymous companies are black-listed in the OECD.

Bitfinex to Delist 87 Crypto Trading Pairs Aiming to Improve Liquidity
https://www.bitfinex.com/posts/466

“The decision was taken after monitoring [the pairs] for six weeks and finding a consistent low level of liquidity. We take this type of action to concentrate trading in fewer pairs.”

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitfinex-to-delist-87-crypto-trading-pairs-aiming-to-improve-liquidity

Smart move.

I understand exchanges want to look big by offering deals with the largest possible choice of cryptos, but you have to realize that you can count on your fingers the number of cryptos which aren't sh*tcoins.
175  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex's taking money from its customers to cover its loss on: April 19, 2020, 11:48:41 AM
Got an email from Poloniex this week:

Quote
We sincerely apologize for the frustration caused by the margin lending pool incident in May 2019. Regaining your trust is a top priority for us...

Unfortunately, there's nothing new.
They just say that I can use their service for free, all my fees will be reimbursed.
That's clearly not enough. All the people who had their money stolen have moved their funds, and they don't want to use this service ever again, until we're getting our money back...

176  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BINANCE TO LAUNCH ITS OWN MINING POOL on: April 10, 2020, 11:34:15 PM
I guess it's good.
Who's against more competition between mining pools?

If they can offer better conditions (or returns) than existing pools, let them do it.
177  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex's taking money from its customers to cover its loss on: March 25, 2020, 12:36:13 AM
I'm glad you guys have been posting on here, letting everyone here know what type of shady business these guys are running, and that you should never trust a 'business man' so to speak. Anyway, I hope the court rules it all in your favours and Poloneix gets to make it right!

Yes, we're waiting...

In the meantime, we shall keep on talking about it. They did the wrong thing, they may do it again.
178  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex Removes Almost 100 Trading Pairs on: March 21, 2020, 02:59:47 PM
Smart move.
It will make Bitfinex safer, by removing the risk of people crashing the market with huge bets on an underperforming altcoin.
179  Economy / Exchanges / Re: List of banks working welll with exchanges to make withdrawal on: March 21, 2020, 02:57:13 PM
A list like this could be useful, but only if it's user-validated...
180  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex's taking money from its customers to cover its loss on: March 21, 2020, 02:54:44 PM
Yes, I've received their email but since I'm missing more than one BTC, getting 0.0047 is meaningless to me. Except that it show they haven't forgotten. Good, I haven't forgotten either, and I know that free trading is also meaningless to me. Even if I were trading everyday for 10 years, that would not repay me. Fees are just small...
