1021  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trumps Russia ties threaten national security? on: July 28, 2016, 11:04:35 PM
I's amazing how vaporware can grow so fast and so big. I believe Trump and Putin have never met. I doubt they've even talked over the phone, but we read stories saying they're old pals. So much BS...
1022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Odds of finding a fellow bitcoiner. on: July 28, 2016, 10:54:45 PM
Amazing! That had never happened to me, but then I'm not very often in a bus, and I don't have a smartphone. And if I had one, I know I would never use it to make anything financial in a public place where some guy could look above my shoulder.
1023  Other / Politics & Society / Re: EU Data Protection Chief: Encryption should be promoted, backdoors illegal on: July 27, 2016, 10:38:01 PM
Europe has a large administration, and many politicians. It's not unusual to see some them having different opinions. They may not contradictory, though. One guy was talking privacy of correspondence, the other of financial transactions.
1024  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can the internet reboot Africa? on: July 27, 2016, 10:34:23 PM
Internet by itself is neutral.

No, it isn't. Far from it. Today's Internet shows the dominating culture. When you anything on google, it gives you results related to the context, built from your previous searches, or pages you've already visited, or results which are trending at the particular time of your search. facebook is even worse. The Internet will only accelerate the destruction of African culture, but that had started way before the Internet was invented.
1025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Best Way To Encourage Offline Store To Accept BTC on: July 27, 2016, 10:24:37 PM
I don't think that's smart. I tried to use BTC to pay my Hungarian dentist earlier this year (even made a topic about it), but when she told me she didn't know what BTC was, I quickly understood I would have enough time to explain, then convince her about BTC. So you must make sure before you begin, that the person you're talking to is BTC aware. You may also note that in many countries, BTC isn't legal tender, meaning that you will not be able to get a receipt, which is no big deal for the customer, but more trouble for the shopkeeper because he/she won't be able to enter the transaction in his books. That may eventually be appreciated, but frankly, it's not worth it. I don't think I'll ever pay with BTC at a restaurant, and I'm not even sure I want it. Cash remains the best option for small face2face purchases.
1026  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Attack in a church in France - 1 priest brutally slit on: July 26, 2016, 10:28:34 PM
Shocked and surprised. I had thought what happened in Nice was easy, the guy was driving a truck, but to slit the throat of an 86-year-old man, that's really weird. Rouen used to be a nice and beautiful city, I hope it will manage to stay that way.
1027  Economy / Economics / Re: Florida Judge Rules Bitcoin is Not Money on: July 26, 2016, 10:24:35 PM
We've got to be very precise. The judge didn't say BTC wasn't money, but that it isn't the equivalent of money, and that AML regulations aren't applicable to this particular case.
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why block size debate, why is it not higher than 1mb? on: July 26, 2016, 10:19:50 PM
You're very right, and BTC wasn't designed to stay forever with that stupid 1MB limit. The very existence of the problem proves there's a governance problem with BTC.
1029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about the idea of a bitcoin shop in big cities? on: July 26, 2016, 10:17:37 PM
A BTC shop? BTC isn't so special. I would prefer to trade it at a bank, like most fiat currencies. I've long asked for it. In every airport and most big train stations, there are small shops providing change between local and foreign currencies. That's where I want to buy and sell BTC.
1030  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can the internet reboot Africa? on: July 25, 2016, 10:55:48 PM
The mobile industry will account for 8% of GDP by 2020 – double what it will be in the rest of the world.

This can be easily explained. To many people in Africa, the cost of owning a mobile phone line is one tenth of their monthly income. Or more to the poorest folks. This isn't like Europe...
1031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EU Commission proposing Central Database of Virtual Currency Users on: July 25, 2016, 10:51:49 PM
An European database? That would be some kind of a novelty. This is the kind of thing that's done at national level. Since there's one for bank accounts already, an extension to wallet holders cannot come as a surprise.

Except that BTC users who have their wallets on their computers will keep their privacy. They will only need to break it if they go through an exchange.
1032  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Planning a trip to Europe... on: July 24, 2016, 11:23:21 PM
Your map's funny, it doesn't show Belarus as an independent, but then it's not despite many of its people's will. What do you want to see, or do, in Europe. The continent has everything from €20 fat black prostitutes to €10,000 a night penthouses with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean sea. What can you afford?
1033  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen if blockchain tech is patented? on: July 24, 2016, 11:16:43 PM
That application could not be pending today anywhere in the EU nor in Australia because those places DEMAND that pending applications be published.  However, in the US one can have a patent pending for over 10 years and there would be no mention of it publically.  You are allowed to have a patent application held from publication until the patent is granted, in the US only.

*'New' here means about 10 years ago they changed.

There are so many patents which are pending, I would not be surprised that there's one from Craig Wright cooking somewhere, published or not. Who would have noticed?

I think most people's assumptions that M.Wright would try to use his patent to control BTC is wrong. I'm pretty sure he owns quite many of them, so he won't risk his investment. It's more likely he will try to make a money if a bank, or some other large corporation builds its own blockchain. There's much more to gain, this way...
1034  Other / Politics & Society / Re: President Trump to investigate Black Lives Matter as a terror group on: July 20, 2016, 11:04:32 PM
Yeah, and most Iranians see the US as a terrorist organization. Just like Palestinians see Israel. Depending on which side you're on, you can be a terrorist to others. Martin Luther king has been seen as a terrorist for a while (Im not comparing him to Black Lives Matter, though).

I'm sure plenty of Americans see Trump as a terrorist.
1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what would you think if blockchain collapse ? on: July 20, 2016, 10:59:19 PM
I'm not preparing anything because the blockchain as it is cannot collapse unless there's a total destruction of the Internet which could only come from something like a global nuclear explosion which would wipe off the human race.

What I fear, though, is the blockchain being clogged with the block size limiting transactions. That could really happen.

@TECHNSAVE No idea of even what the current price is, nor do I really care for now. Did you guys even work out that block size thing?

LOLed

Well, so we know he wasn't getting the news when in jail, but it shows how bad the community has been. The block size issue which was making the news more than one year ago still hasn't been solved. I guess M.Karpeles is very disappointed. Like we all.
1037  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Days back Pakistan Model killed by her own brother. on: July 19, 2016, 10:20:36 PM
Honor killings? I wish I'd read about a muslim father killing his son because he became an IS terrorist. This would be an honor killing I could somewhat understand a little bit.
1038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is bitcoin is the most high value currency as of now? on: July 19, 2016, 10:13:14 PM
It depends how you define "value". Is it only by price? A Ferrari is worth a lot of money, but it's also desirable because of what it is: something beautiful, fast and sexy. It's true that one BTC is worth more than one US$ but I think that as of today, the US$ is more desirable because it can be exchanged with many more people, in many countries, and without an Internet connection.
1039  Other / Politics & Society / Re: is Russia really supports Philippines and Vietnam against china? on: July 18, 2016, 10:34:52 PM
It isn't Russia, it's every country in the world against China. If you look at a map, you see clearly how ugly the Chinese government is. There's no logic to say those waters are Chinese. It's one of the few times where Russia and the US are on the same side.
1040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippine government will soon regulate bitcoin operations in their country on: July 18, 2016, 10:28:08 PM
...hackers of amassing huge amount of money...
...huge amount flowing in bitcoin activities...

Really? Any data to backup those claims? I didn't know BTC was so big in the Philippines, nor that there are many hackers there. Isn't that just government propaganda to try to control BTC? What BTC activities are in the Philippines?
