1041  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Europe is getting more and more unstable on: July 16, 2016, 05:09:39 PM
Don't overreact! First Turkey isn't in Europe, then the rest of the world isn't any safer. In Southern America and Africa, or Pakistan, there are many dangerous places. Some parts of the US are really bad, too.
1042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain without Bitcoin on: July 16, 2016, 05:05:27 PM
A blockchain is just a database sitting on many computers, which automatically updates itself. One Southern America country is currently looking about storing its land registry on a blockchain. There would be no reward for keeping it, as there is with BTCfor miners, but plenty of attorneys or notaries would be happy to host the land registry of the whole country in their offices.
1043  Other / Politics & Society / Re: TURKEY COUP ATTEMPT on: July 15, 2016, 11:35:31 PM
Oh, good! I hope that ugly muslim terrorist of Erdogan will be jailed. The army can only make Turkey better. It was Ataturk who turned Turkey into a modern country and Erdogan who pushed the country back to muslim stone age.
1044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Karpeles on bail on: July 15, 2016, 11:30:36 PM
Hold your pitchforks on that point.

In the US at least, most people don't usually pay their own bail. You use a bail bondsman who loans you money for the bail and, presumably, comes and breaks your kneecaps if you don't make payments on the loan or skip down on your bail. They'll sometimes take the title on some property of yours to secure the loan.

I assume the situation is no different in Japan.

Wrong, there are no bail bondsmen in Japan. At least there weren't when I was stationed there. My wife's (married her while stationed at kadena okinawa) brother was arrested. The application he had his attorney submit to apply for bail cost $3,000 back then. It's probably $5,000 today. He also needed to pay the bail in full before he was released. Karpeles not only has a shitload of money at his disposal but must have someone he trusts on the outside helping him.

Thanks for info. The US system is very unusual. There's nothing similar in Europe or Africa. And I guess that even in America, where a loan is possible, it would take a very substantial collateral to get $100K. So the man's far from broke!
1045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton Pledges Support for Blockchain on: July 15, 2016, 11:24:31 PM
this is interesting, first Obama voices concerned indirectly about bitcoin and the "Swiss bank in your pocket" and the new Candidate is talking about support for blockchain, although the important keyword here is "blockchain technology" not bitcoin though!

Very true. Hilary has yet to show the slightest support towards BTC or cryptocurrencies. She only said she supported blockchains, and that means databases spread around many computers all over the world. The US government could probably use a blockchain for its Medicare program. Or in the Army.
1046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Karpeles on bail on: July 14, 2016, 10:19:49 PM
Funny that he has so much money for bailing himself out. He can get some of that money and start repaying his customers. Oh wait... Maybe those are customers funds.

I'm very surprised too. I thought the guy was broke with all his assets frozen but he still managed to find $100.000. Where does that money come from? I believe he should explain that. Many people also are waiting for an explanation about what happened with their money...
1047  Other / Politics & Society / Re: child labouring or child beggar on: July 14, 2016, 10:13:52 PM
Without a single hesitation, I prefer children working than begging. Children begging in the street should be taken away by all means. Working children can become responsible adults but I doubt it's possible with those begging.
1048  Economy / Economics / Re: We must build a new exchange rate system on: July 14, 2016, 10:07:56 PM
We must build a new exchange rate system based on the quantity of money in existence. For example the bitcoin/U.S. dollar exchange rate should be: 1 bitcoin = 500.000 U.S. dollars because all the U.S. dollars in the world are 10.5 trillion. (10.5 trillion/21 million = 500.000).

What do you think about this idea?

Yes, I like your idea. You're right. I'm all willing to help you set up that new system of yours. I guess we could start with me selling you one BTC. I'll pay the bank fee to transfer the $500.000 to my account and I'll send you one BTC right away.
1049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spanish University Holds Two-Day Bitcoin & Blockchain Course on: July 14, 2016, 10:01:02 PM
A 2-day course? I wonder what you can learn in that time. It's much too long to learn how to make transactions, and it's way too short to learn about blockchain tech... I doubt there'll be many students but I guess it's a good idea to promote the university.
1050  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Best argument against European Union: barroso now working for Goldman Sachs... on: July 13, 2016, 10:42:30 PM
So what's wrong? The man doesn't hold any official duty anymore so he shall be free to do whatever he wants. If he's been offered big money for a new job, he should take it. I would.
Greece (EU Member) went bankrupt due to loans to Goldman Sachs. Interest went up and value of currency down. If true, it is of course a little bit strange to go from President of European Commission to Goldman Sachs.

Goldman wasn't the only bank involved, and wasn't the largest involved.

It's happening all the time. Some years ago, I had a daytime job and an evening job at a competing company. Both would have fired me if they knew what I was doing. And I've down much worse since those days!

Give the man a break, he's free and he can do whatever he wants.
1051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you suspect Bitcoin Service providers are using Fractional Reserve banking? on: July 13, 2016, 10:38:04 PM
It would be difficult and risky. There's a lot of ups and downs and many lots of people selling or buying all at the same time. Some exchange may try to do it, but I doubt it could do it for long.

1053  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iron Man is now a girl. on: July 11, 2016, 10:14:04 PM
What a lack of imagination! Some people have also suggested that the James Bond shall be gay, they should create entirely new heroes. How about Carbon Fiber Woman?

Hey, wait! Iron Woman? She's the one doing the laundry, right?
1054  Economy / Economics / Re: Italian bank problems and bitcoin on: July 11, 2016, 10:11:33 PM
It's a huge problem which will raise tensions between Roma and Frankfurt, but I don't see how it could have any effect on BTC. BTC and the € are not in the same boat.
1055  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The destruction of the UK has started on: July 08, 2016, 11:00:50 PM
Another thing which is quite surprising is the vanishing of british male politicians. Nicola Sturgeon already is the PM of Scotland, and it's getting very, very likely that the FUK's next PM will be a female, too. Don't know if this is good or bad. It's possibly meaningless.
1056  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The destruction of the UK has started on: July 07, 2016, 10:35:01 PM
i think that country should have very low taxes which are used to pay for:army, police, public transport and health service, nothing more.

No fire crews?  No coastguard?  No schools, colleges, universities, libraries?  No waste collection?  No courts, prisons or judicial service (unless you put those under the "police" category)?  No parks and recreational areas?  Sounds like a pretty crappy country to me.

Sometimes people forget that public funding can cover many of the services they use and even rely on.

Firefighting, waste collection, universities, aren't under government's control in many countries. They're all local services, paid by local people (or private companies and students for universities), just like policing and jail some 150/200 years ago. But this isn't the subject.

Am I the only one here to notice that the british currency and british shares are down? Substantially down!
This is actually not strange,a lot of people just got totally scared after the UK leaving EU,
they may lose some trust to United Kingdom currency and shares and some stocks, but i believe it will be back to normal in some time, british are trust-worthy economy.
but i think it is too early to say any thing like that. the future will decide that either it is their destruction or construction. no one know about the future. may it in in the favour of UK so i think we should wait and see that happens.

The FUK's facing some terrible pressure. Pressure from Scotland and Ireland, pressure to find a new prime minister with a majority to support him (or her), pressure the markets everywhere... It's a slow process, but the next head of government will have to very, very talented to overcome so many things going wrong. Then, Britain is pretty much isolated. It has lost all its European friends. They won't help if there's trouble.
1057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase banned Germany & Luxembourg on: July 07, 2016, 10:26:05 PM
Coinbase? Who needs coinbase? Why would anyone in Germany use an american exchange when they can a german one like bitcoin.de?
I doubt coinbase had many customers in Germany, or a single one in Luxembourg, a country which is smaller than L.A. county.

1059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EU proposes stricter rules on Bitcoin on: July 06, 2016, 10:48:17 PM
There is nothing in there about online wallets in europe suddenly requiring ID to access your own btc.  Its basic kyc stuff for exchanges.  How will an online wallet service like blockchain know where you are from?  A 12 year old could get around that.  Why can't we have a rational discussion here without rediculous straw man arguments? And why does everything revert to a brexit argument too?  Ugh.

Check this: Tackling terrorist financing risks linked to virtual currencies: to prevent misuse of virtual currencies for money laundering and terrorist financing purposes, the Commission proposes to bring virtual currency exchange platforms and custodian wallet providers under the scope of the Anti-Money Laundering Directive. These entities will have to apply customer due diligence controls when exchanging virtual for real currencies, ending the anonymity associated with such exchanges;

But frankly, it's no big deal. You can still have your own wallet on your own computer, and exchange BTC as you wish with localbitcoins. You just need to understand that doing things anonymously will be a bit more expensive.
1060  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The destruction of the UK has started on: July 05, 2016, 11:22:10 PM
There is no destruction of the UK - there may be destruction of the banking sector though.

All brits should be afraid. FUK has a very high current account deficit. With all foreign investors freezing their plans because of the uncertainty about everything, it's going to get tough. 3 major finance firms (Standard Life, Aviva, M&G) have already suspended trading. Investors asking to get their money back won't get it.
