401  Other / Serious discussion / Re: I'm having trouble understanding market makers actions. on: January 14, 2019, 12:52:53 AM
Understanding the market is as difficult as understanding human nature, but your case is crystal-clear to me. When the market is very uncertain, there's sense in playing it safe, and only look for a very small profit. It's always better than a loss.
402  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Be careful, Google knows more about you than you can imagine! on: January 14, 2019, 12:42:31 AM
Even if you turn off location services you can still be tracked. You can be triangulated based on the cell tower your phone is connected to. When you move towards the location of a new cell tower your location can now be triangulated based on the new cell tower's location.

There's a huge difference.
Apps use location data from your smartphone and they may send it in the cloud somewhere, or to third parties unknown to you, whereas cell tower information is only known by your phone company and the police.
403  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The First Seastead is in the water on: January 14, 2019, 12:34:18 AM
Congratulations! It's getting real. It's not for me, but some people may enjoy the idea.
I wonder about water. Will each house have its own desalination device?
404  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Monthly minimum wage: ~$82 is that too much to ask? on: January 12, 2019, 12:50:02 AM
Yes, $82 is too much for Africa. It would just push more people to work in the grey economy. Even in developed countries, minimum wages are a problem, so it can only be worse in Nigeria, and most of Africa. Heavy business regulations and minimum wags should be only in highly developed countries, with a high standard of living.
405  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: about exchanges kyc withdraw! on: January 11, 2019, 01:09:41 AM
What exchange are we talking about?
Please tell us before going any further.

KYC regulations come into play at time of account opening. Before the customer is allowed to make the smallest deposit. If it's not that way, it's most probably a scam. Run away fast, and let us know who are those bad guys, so that everybady can avoid them.
406  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which is the best cryptocurrency exchange on: January 11, 2019, 01:02:38 AM
If you want to play it safe, I would recommend to look for the oldest. I've been using Bitfinex, Kraken and Poloniex for years, and that gives confidence. I started on each one with a little sum, which I've gradually increased. I wouldn't even consider a new exchange. I'll wait till it's at least one year old.
407  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Be careful, Google knows more about you than you can imagine! on: January 05, 2019, 12:24:57 AM
Hey! You can fight!
On my smartphone, mobile data is turned off, and it has always been like this.
Then, Contacts, Gmail, Google, Maps and plenty other apps are disabled.
It just take some time to learn how to fine tune your phone, and google won't know that much about you.
408  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Stock on a Blockchain allows investors to trade in USA stock market shares on: January 05, 2019, 12:20:27 AM
I don't understand how it could work. What if you want to buy a share when the market is closed? Do they have shares from all listed companies? I guess they will just take your order, and then wait for the market to open to process it. And what happens if the price of share jumps (up or down) right after the market opens?
409  Economy / Economics / Re: Just sharing what I've learned about cryptocurrency businesses in Gibraltar on: December 27, 2018, 12:13:16 AM
This is expensive. Really expensive. I guess they want to play it safe. They want the world to know that if you deal with a crypto company from Gibraltar, you'll play safe, because only guys with serious money can afford to start a business there. Gibraltar is not Ukraine, but the talented Ukrainians who could launch a great new crypto start-up will never have the money to register their business there.
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We have to be aware that bitcoin will not last forever on: December 19, 2018, 11:27:15 PM
Nothing around us will last forever. The computer I'm using now will only last a few years, but I'm confident BTC will last many more decades. Even if the network's going down to 2 computers, BTC can keep on going. The real question is how many people will keep on using it. I hope it will grow, and each time I'm watching the news, I see reasons to be hopeful. I see larger and larger deficits in most countries. I see more and more taxes to try to curb those deficits. I see more and more civil unrest, the yellow vests people in France, the occupy people in the US... Sooner or later, people will realize that BTC is a safe way to keep your savings, and to do business outside of the eyes of the devil, the taxman.
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The situation with IRAN on: November 23, 2018, 05:48:51 PM
Well, Iran has petrol. Quite a lot of it, I believe. So you may buy a generator and powerful computers to mine BTC. You will not be making a lot of money to begin with, but BTC shall allow you to buy things you couldn't get with your local Iranian currency.

Sorry if what I'm proposing is not very original, but that's the best BTC can do for you.
412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we still believe in Bitcoin? on: November 23, 2018, 05:38:55 PM
Yes I truly believe in cryptocurrency. We all know that the basic aim of everyone for participating in any investment market is to earn profits and there is nothing wrong in that. But a person should have some realistic goals. You can invest in something blindly and then expect your money to be doubled in a week. You should research and study properly and take every decision wisely.

Get out of here! Anyone who thinks BTC is an investment is an idiot. It isn't, and it has never been.
It's investors and speculators who are destroying BTC. I hope everyone who invested in BTC will lose their shirt, so that the people who want to use BTC daily for their business will be left in peace.
413  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Prices are Being Manipulated... on: November 23, 2018, 05:22:31 PM
BTC is being manipulated because it's easy. Try to manipulate the US$ or the €, that's nearly impossible, it just takes too much capital. But I'm sure the £ will be manipulated at Brexit time.

BTC needs to grow to make it more difficult to manipulate.
414  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you live in a place that collects your data? on: November 23, 2018, 05:18:50 PM
No, and I've left countries where they wanted me to register. I've also turned off mobile data on my smartphone. Everybody should do it.
415  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 60% of US Voters Want Cryptocurrency Political Donations to Be Legal on: November 01, 2018, 12:33:28 AM
Pretty bad idea. There's already a lot of dirty money in politics, and allowing cryptos would only make things worse. If the people want clean politicians, there shouldn't be a single anonymous donation to any political organization.
416  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Modern society is a human farm on: October 26, 2018, 09:20:52 PM
I did it. I threw away my TV. I've burned my social security card. I left my country...
When I go back to my native country now, I feel I don't belong there anymore. The people are all like strangers.

Of course, I'm not on facebook, because it's just one new world-sized farm...
417  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex has a serious problem on: October 18, 2018, 10:01:25 AM
I would have expected more professionalism from Poloniex, especially with how much of a sensitive issue it is when exchanges halt withdrawals. Undecided

Yes, you nailed it. Considering the amount of money Circle paid to buy Poloniex, they should invest in a PR officer to communicate, to explain things when something's going wrong.

BTC deposits and withdrawals are now enabled.  Expect deposits to be delayed for a few hours as we work through the backlog.  Our apologies for the extended wallet downtime.  We are dedicated to improving reliability and minimizing disruption in the future.

Well, it's over. Everything's back to normal, but frankly, I had thought they had better people to fix problems. I think BTC deposits and withdrawals were impossible for 60 hours, that's way too long!
419  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex has a serious problem on: October 16, 2018, 09:52:53 PM
Thread here - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/9oovzw/poloniex_suspends_bitcoin_withdrawals/

I wonder about Poloniex's competence in general. The main coin I've dealt with on there is XEM. I can remember maybe 15-20 occasions when they performed 'maintenance' on its wallets, often for several days. At no point since its inception has it ever had a network or wallet problem.

Thanks for the link, at least, I see I'm not the only one who's seen the problem, but nobody else has an explanation sadly. I've seen a few maintenance operations, and none had bothered me so far. What I don't understand is why it's taking them so long to fix. Their credibility is at stake! BTC withdrawals and deposits are the most important for an exchange! At the very least, they should tweet about the issue.
420  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex has a serious problem on: October 16, 2018, 07:55:57 PM
I'm not talking about "locked withdrawals". Poloniex is a great exchange which I've been using for years.
Doesn't anyone else see the message I quoted?

I see, it's very weird actually. Bitcoin itself is performing as it has been doing all the time, which is without any problems.

It may be related to USDT based on the timing; perhaps that a whale or more than one have dumped a significant amount of USDT on Poloniex in the last days, and have withdrawn as much BTC as possible.

Another explanation might be that they are upgrading their wallet clients, which would be the least worrying scenario, so let's hope it's this one.

Yes, that's the most likely explanation. There was a problem with Tether 2 days ago, and Stablecoin was launched. There's no clear relation with BTC, though, but that may have caused huge trades volumes.

Please, don't reply to this topic if you haven't seen the message I quoted.
Everything else works fine on Poloniex. I made several trades without a hiccup today, and a big BTC withdrawal I made last week took barely 30 minutes.
