If you somehow have a facility with free aircolling like a forum member in Scottland, and can achieve 5°C,

Nearly May and i'm going out to work (pro bono for a local care home) dressed in a scarf, hat and gloves.
lovely place for hosting, but you wouldn't wanna live here!
Yes, temperatures are good in Scotland, but isnīt power at around 0,15$?

I am still in favour of the Iceland modular Datacenter solution, where we just pool enough sp10/30 customers together and get one of those containers.

If you specifically ask for it, these can be cooled by the iceland air to around 5-10°C, and power in Iceland for industrial customers is 4ct/kwh guaranteed for 10 years, so the DC should be able to give us a good quote.

Also, 100% green geothermal energy. (WA state is also ~80% hydroelectric but they wont achieve crazy-low temperatures in the DCs)

@raskul: your unit might be able to achieve even higher values if you change the PSU to the 1250W model.
1602  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 30, 2014, 05:26:01 AM

I like these stats sir.
Do you own an SP10?
Is TURBO mode an overclocking mode?
Does it require extreme low temps to operate properly?
Thanks again for the post, I like POSITIVE info on equipment
THEY HAVE SHIPPED and so far anyone Ive seen post on the
SP10 is higly praising their product.  Im impressed so far sir!!

TURBO mode is the most powerful firmware setting, which can easily be chosen via the webinterface.
It will get the most hashing power out of your unit, with a slight increase in power draw and noise levels (fans run at max)

The sp10īs firmware does dynamic frequency control for every chip, based on that chipīs temperature. This ensures every chip will perform to its maximum without getting damaged.
The lower the ambient temperature is, the higher the chips will be clocking. Very good results can be achieved at normal DC temperatures of around 20°C intake temperature.

Therefore i would describe the cooling requirements as quite reasonable. If you somehow have a facility with free aircolling like a forum member in Scottland, and can achieve 5°C, that really puts the "pedal to the metal".
However, you will typically get very good results with standard operating temperatures.

@wanna4fun: What is your intake temperature (and where is your DC located?)
Did you switch the PSU for a 1250W model?
1603  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: April 29, 2014, 05:27:49 PM
ok, tuesday is nearly over -> no update = next FAIL !  Angry
You cant honestly be surprised by Bitmine not keeping promised dates.
Itīs the whole "two weeks" all over again.

A quick reminder: they still havent shown or shipped any working Rig design, even though they claim their design is ready for more than a month.

Meanwhile spondoolies manages to fit over 4,2TH/s into less than 4U and everything works perfectly smooth.

The bitmine "engineers" need so much time, because they only get things right on accident.
1604  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 29, 2014, 05:18:36 PM
Conterra: 2375$/Th Shocked

And the you get a double rolette:

How many of the 4 ASICs will actually work ? Cry
For how long ?  Cry

Dont forget to add a whopping 600$ of shipping cost for Cointerra products.

Furthermore, these rarely run at the full 1,6Th, and draw about 1,25W/GH

Mods: Please delete this if it is too far off-topic.

Is the acceptable time for a refund stated in their TOS? If not, you could sue them for fraud but they would likely return your money in the meantime, getting them off the hook.

Ok i can understand the delivery, but you should be able to claim damages by late refund right? I mean since you are entitled to a refund and they drag it for more than 1 month there must be a way to claim damages from that.
You might be able to, however it would be an amount of around 1% per month, basically interest on your "loan", and therefore not really worth time and effort.

Again your chances might be higher if clear refund terms are stated in the TOS.

And regarding the individual: You can set up a company without capital, i.e. use the miner as capital. As long as the miner is not delivered, the company is not existing, thus, you still are a private person protected by consumer laws. If you ask for a refund, you stop being a possible business, i.e. you are again a consumer who's assets are not sent back in time.

Sadly, this doesnīt apply.
KnC TOS state that you "agree" to be a business and agree to a b2b contract.

It doensīt matter wether you actually run this as a business or not, you will be treated as such.

As to the fraud debate: as stated above it might be treated as fraud by relevant authorities.

However, i see this as irrelevant because in the meantime they will just refund you and get off the hook.
1607  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.55 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 29, 2014, 05:02:29 PM
Guys, keep in mind that while this looks cheap, please dont forget to add the cost for PSUs into your equations.
Just add around 35$ for every S1 and you should be fine.

1.2   The Products are sold for business use only and Purchaser hereby accepts that it has purchased the Products in order to conduct a business.

I know its a bitch but I think it does make a difference.

There must be some laws for B2B too. What if you can invoke that something happened and you aren't able to conduct a business with the Products? And since the Products (Neptunes) aren't shipped yet you aren't conducting any business right? You would if you had the products, but since you don't there is no business.

Yes, when you have a B2B contract, it is far easier to sue for damages resulting from late delivery.
HOWEVER KnC have delibaretely set a very big timeframe for delivery (Q1/Q2 14) as to protect them if they ship "late".

If they are not refunding in time, you can file a lawsuit for fraud. This is a criminal offence which is needed for a European Arrest Warrant.

1609  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: April 29, 2014, 04:34:26 PM
Or get coolermaster jetflo 120, they are 95cfm at only 36 db(a), and only around 10€.

You should definately go with around the same cfm on input and output fans, obviously.

227 mģ/h with Scythe Ultra is ofcourse great for airflow, if you have them on both input and output side, and if you dont have to worry about noise, get those.
(That is, if there is 3,8cm of room at the "back", i.e. the side with the PSU)

How much cfm or mģ/h do the stock fans have?

How much place is on the "front" side, i.e. the side with the display?

Atleast they have thought about big heatsinks, so little airflow gets wasted, and placing them near each other also helps.
1610  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra TerraMiner 1.6 TH for $3799 on: April 29, 2014, 09:01:53 AM
I would advise against ordering these.
They very rarely achieve 1,6Th and the power efficiency is at best 1,25W/GH
1611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 29, 2014, 08:52:25 AM
This is the 10th business day and i still don't have my refund.

KNC PLEASE STOP HOLDING MY MONEY AND SEND ME MY ENTITLED REFUND!!!
I bet you, they will release the funds quite soon after the sp30 groupbuy has ended. If anyone claims to receive the refund within an acceptable timeframe, everyone of their "customers" will desert them.

The Neptune isnīt too impressive, as it will probably not get better power efficiency than 0,8W/GH and in a 4 u formfactor.
1612  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: April 29, 2014, 08:21:54 AM
Sending the refund requests via registered mail would be the best option, as you can then prove after 30 days that they actually received the request.

Afterwards you can get a court to recognize the money they owe you fairly easily and have a proof that you used your right to cancel.

Bitmine is legally bound to their terms of service, even "more" than they are to standard business practices. (Meaning it is easier to collect)

If you have a court recognize the debt you can fairly easily have them forced to pay and will be able to collect further damages if they delay your refund any longer.

My two cents worth of opinion is that they will simply pay your refund if they see you are playing legal hardball, e.g. by sticking to the normal practices before you get a court to order them to pay.

This starts with sending your refund request by registered mail, as it will be quite easy for them to simply deny the receipt of your refund request if you only email them, or they will use some other delay tactics.
(If the answer "we didnt receive any refund requests via email" will hold up in court is another question, as there are ways to prove it, but you should always make things easy for yourself)

Out of 36 boards only 6 looked usable and of those only 1 is actually working, 2 power up but show completely dead dies and the other 3 do nothing but look good.

That sounds extremely worrying.

That is like taking boards from the trash container and shipping to customers...

Were the heatsinks only stuck onto the board by the thermal paste?

Yup, except now they can claim all of the bad boards as damaged in shipment and get reimbursed by the shipping co./insurance, All the while mining on the equipment they should have sent.

Brilliant.
I am fairly certain the shipping companies will demand proof of secure packaging (according to their terms of sale) and wont pay KnC a penny, as this !would smell alot like KnC defrauding the shipment company.

They have specialised teams working to help minimize every penny in reimbursements, and it sure looks very suspicious if every package the company sent out is claimed to be damaged by shipping.

1615  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN]ASICMiner Publicly Looking for Potential Customers/Partners for New Chips on: April 27, 2014, 02:26:44 PM
Well, in the long term when the reward of mining will be a very low bonus on top of the cost of electricity, small changes in mining efficiency will not be enough to justify the purchase of a new miner.

Therefore, my conclusion would be, get an efficient miner now or within the foreseeable future and hold on to it, as soon "new" mining hardware, unless dirt cheap, will not ROI.
1616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 27, 2014, 02:20:29 PM
How hard can it be to "simulate" handling of a miner by a freight company?

Simply get two interns to toss the package around a little, as every parcel will experience some force on it, simply when going through the sorting machines of any courier.

After a little of that, any Engineer worth a penny would have figured out that the units cant be shipped when built in this fashion.

Is there another chip with less than 0.55w/gh? Spondoolies is half the GH per chip and bitfury rev2 is something like 0.7w/gh.
The new asicminer chip is nice but finished products will most likely have around ~0,8W/GH/s.

This is nothing new, bitfury chips do that since Summer 2013, spondoolies does it in a nice 1,25u case etc.

Granted Asicminer chips have more GH/chip than Bitfury, but finished devices that are rackmountable etc. will take some more time until they are developed.

What it will all come down to for ASICminer is how cheap they can sell chips, which seems to be heading in a good direction.

Bulk chip sales will most likely be the easiest way to get some quick profit, as it also requires little own funds to be invested, as chip design is already done.

Hopefully ASICminer will be able to rake in some cash with this chip and we will then see a nice chip-battle on 28nm by the leading companies in Summer/Autumn of this year.

As far as having the UP Arrows on the packages I've seen UPS rotate packages that had many arrows on them.  I've also seen them throw a package with arrows and "Fragile" on it on the ground sideways and when it was in the way walk on top of it......

The biggest thing is shipping companies all have one rule...make sure any package can withstand a 7 foot drop..... I highly doubt the Franken's could withstand a 7 inch drop from what I've seen...
Yep. and marking one "Fragile" results in extra bonus abuse.
We had this proven on the first Jupiter shipment...

Imagine if they knew it was a miner...  or had KNC stamped on the box.  omg.
Plain brown box is best;
it only needed screws to hold the asics to the cooling towers, and this whole (current)mess could have been avoided.

Yeah, i can only shake my head furiously in disbelief when i hear about KnC shipping and packaging practices, why dont the just put it in a box, covered with foam holders, like when you ship computers?

These things make shipping damage much more unlikely, even if the package were dropped.

Also, they should just put a shockwatch sticker on every package:

It is then easy to prove if the drop force was higher than a 7ft drop, and every uneducated parcel delivery guy knows, he is going to get into trouble if the thing brakes and will handle with more care.
I can tell you from personal experience, since we stick these on our (pricy) audio equipment when shipping it, damages have gone down 80%.

It seems to me like KnC has either hired the intern to manage all their shipping activities, or they simply lack common sense.
1619  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] CoiningSolutions.com Neptune Shares ฿.33=50GH/s |*MINERS PAID on: April 27, 2014, 05:03:47 AM
Waldo, please explain to the community how you forgot to pay ~30$ back for every share.

In the original thread the wording was value, as in value you got refunded. This clearly states that you have to send us the USD equivalent. Further, the unit was only priced in USD, bitcoin was just the payment vehicle.

The profit on your side at this moment is atleast ~1800$ per miner, amounting to nearly 10K over all the Neptunes.

This is money you took from the community, by not honoring your words, and it looks a lot like fraud to me.

The poll with the options didnt receive a majority on your refund amounts.

In fact the majority was wait-and-see.

Finally, if you want to be consistent, by your own logic you would need to pay back every hashfast groupbuy customer the original order amount in Bitcoin -5% fees, but i bet you wonīt do that.
You will again look for the scenario with the most profit on your side, but this is the community you are stealing money from, and this sickens me.
1620  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY WORLDWIDE]1TH Bitmine - 2200 USD Shipping next day - worldwide on: April 26, 2014, 02:56:44 PM
Have you emailed them since?
Normally they only respond to emails.

Ofcourse i cant say what is going on at their facilities, i can only share my personal experience which was on par with the price they took for the order, i had the unit around 5 days after paying in my hands.
Afterwards i had some software issues because the provided sdcard image got damaged somehow.

Now everything is working within the promised parameters, and i got off 10% cheaper than i had with dragonminer.

Keep in mind that this really isnīt the best time to buy hardware, unless you get a really top notch unit or have abundant cheap energy.
