This blog: https://btctrading.wordpress.com/ has always provided good analysis with some interesting indicators. Worth a read for the input.
1602  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit on: April 11, 2017, 03:08:44 AM
I was always wondering about this, is Multibit HD actually an SPV wallet? If it's the case then won't that make it somehow centralized because I don't see people running servers (so It must be the developers themselves). If it's the same way as Electrum, they should somehow be able to see the addresses each wallet control.

Multibit HD is based off of Mike Hearn's bitcoinj in SPV mode so it does not need a complete local copy of the entire blockchain but does talk to bitcoin nodes, while Electrum talks to the Electrum server network.
1603  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit Password not Recognized Again on: April 11, 2017, 02:42:05 AM
If you do a forum search you will find complaints about Multibit HD. Erratic operation, hanging, conflicts with firewalls and security software. Consider using Electrum latest release. There is no advantage to using Multibit over Electrum, and several reasons to use Electrum. It is stable and updated regularly. Fee estimation is very good, and you can send a transaction replaceable so if there is a delay you can bump the fee up. A really good all around wallet.
1604  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: WTF is this? Someone found a trick for fast mining? (part II) on: April 10, 2017, 06:25:12 PM
If you look on the mining subform you can see people talking about it. It's called asicboost. Antminet hardware has it built in but it is only used when miners are connected to antpool.

Correct me if wrong but my best understanding of the situation is that current production S9 miners have a covert form of asicboost embedded in the hardware, but just using AntPool is not enough to take advantage of the power savings. Proprietary software is necessary that Bitmain keeps to themselves, or perhaps shares with some good customers. The average miner does not have access to the covert asicboost hence the unfair advantage.

Edit: seems overt asicboost is available today for power savings if you use your own mining pool according to this reddit post.

1606  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Kialara Gold #19 2.6BTC High bid - ends Friday. on: April 10, 2017, 05:24:25 PM
Only the silver and golds have really shot up in price, you can still get a 2014 original for less than half a bitcoin. It will be interesting to see what happens with the 'To the Moon' bars when they are out. Will collectors prize them as much as the silver and golds?
1607  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: April 10, 2017, 04:20:39 AM
How can i use two trezor devices under the same computer?

Once you have your first Trezor set up and working you can restore your seed to a second new Trezor so you have a working clone. Is that what you are wanting to do?

Nope, to have two different wallets. I would like to save bitcoins on both devices.

Sorry misunderstood. Your computer does not care if you have two Trezors with different seeds. You only use one at a time of course.

Any plan to add Litecoin to the wallet?

Is that possible?

You can already use Trezor with Electrum-LTC. Just download the portable version to a folder on your desktop.
1610  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Multibit HD vs Electrum which is better? on: April 08, 2017, 05:17:22 AM
If you do a forum search you will find plenty of complaints about Multibit HD being a buggy piece of software with poor support. On the other hand Electrum is pretty much praised and well supported. I can tell you from my own experience that Multibit HD did not play well with my security suite and firewall and I finally deleted it. Latest Electrum supports dynamic fees and RBF and the most popular hardware wallets. It also comes in a portable version unlike any other bitcoin wallet. Try to find someone who hated Electrum so much they uninstalled it.
1611  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: 24 word seed question : is splitting it in half dangerous? on: April 08, 2017, 04:18:06 AM
Hi,

If I have a 24 word seed, and I split it into 2 - 12 and 12
If an attacker somehow finds either the first 12 words or the 2nd 12 words, is there anyway they can use that to easily derive/find the second 12 words? or am I as safe as If I simply had a 12 word seed (which many wallets use?)

Basically do the 2 halves in any way relate / help to derive each other, or do I retain half the entropy with half the seed? and does it matter if its the half including the checksum (can that be used in anyway to derive / guess what words it could be?)

Thanks

*if this is wrong forum / somewhere better to ask please advise.

Having half the seed does not help an attacker. What could harm you is storing the halves separately and losing access. Put the seed someplace safe offline. How safe depends on how much bitcoin you own. If you are talking hardware wallets you can also add a layer of security by using a password to protect the seed. If someone gained access to your Trezor or Ledger seed it would be useless to them, they could not reconstruct your accounts without the password.

He hasn't updated the site as the new site is kialara.com
You will find the bars available there , the labs are no more in stock AFAIK
They are not on list here - http://kialara.com/

Everyone wants Coinbase to add litecoin trading might be in for a surprise. When GDAX started trading Ether last year price dropped 70% in seven months.
1614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin has potential. Beyond $50? on: April 07, 2017, 06:36:50 PM
Coinbase or GDAX adding litecoin trading is not necessarily positive for the price. Look what happened when GDAX started trading ETH May 2016:

Ether price dropped over 70% in 7 months before recovering. You might want to sell your litecoin before SegWit activates or Litecoin is added to GDAX (buy the rumour sell the news.)

Here is a well thought out and articulated writeup about the ASICBOOST dilemma by the creator and owner of the now defunct KNC miner.  This is a must read for everyone especially the ignorant noobs who blindly follow CORE and attack anyone who does not get inline behind the CORE party line.  People must realize that it is CORE that has been holding Bitcoin hostage and whos current suggested course of action could destroy Bitcoin.

Sam Cole really has no credibility after defrauding customers and bankrupting KnCMiner. Surprised he popped his head up out of the hole.

From latest BitMex Crypto Trader Digest:

Quote
Litecoin is affectionately referred to as “rock” by many crypto traders. Litecoin has acted like a rock in trader’s bags since it hit its all time high of $40 in 2013. The technical merits of why Litecoin should be worth more than $0 are few and far between. Litecoin exists on life support only because Chinese traders for some reason enjoy trading it. Mainly that is because it is the only shitcoin the big three Chinese exchanges (BTCC, Huobi, OKCoin) offer.

During the current 2017 altcoin bubble, rock caught a stray bid. The pump and dump operators finally decided it was Litecoin’s time to shine. Rock is up almost 200% since late March.

The narrative supporting the rally is that SegWit is close to being activated. The activation threshold on Litecoin is 75% vs. 95% for Bitcoin. Litecoin is a CTRL+C, CTRL+V of Bitcoin. The slight changes include being Scrypt mined, and a block time of 2.5 minutes on average.

Many traders point to Litecoin as proof that if Bitcoin activates SegWit the price should explode higher as well. Some seriously delusional traders con themselves into believing Litecoin could actually serve as a replacement for Bitcoin if the Core vs. Bitcoin Unlimited civil war results in a contentious hard fork.

Oblivious traders are filling their bags with new shiny rocks. How do I know? Because in a recent tweet, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said they will list a Litecoin / USD pair. Altcoin pumps begin in earnest on Poloniex, and end when exchanges such as Coinbase and / or Bitfinex decide to list them.

A recent example of this phenomenon was Ether in Spring 2016. After a lacklustre performance in the secondary market from listing in August 2015 until January 2016, Ether ignited and went asymptotic. The peak during that particular rally was reached when Bitfinex announced it would list ETH. As soon as ETH listed on Bitfinex, the dump began.

Exchanges late to the party, even BitMEX is guilty of this from time to time, signal that peak fomo is near. Those traders tempting fate by holding Litecoin should be cautious. It isn’t called rock for nothing.
1618  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Cheapest way to get Ledger Nano S ? on: April 07, 2017, 02:33:04 PM
Really if you have enough bitcoin to need a Ledger Nano S you can afford the shipping. You should also buy two while you are ordering in case one malfunctions so you have a spare. You could also check the Trezor shop to see if they have more economical shipping.
1619  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Cheapest way to get Ledger Nano S ? on: April 06, 2017, 09:07:03 PM
Alright, so I decided to order one Ledger Nano S, while doing the checkout process, I noticed that I only have USP Express as a shipping which costs around 51 euro (in addition to the cost of the wallet -- 58 Euro) even though, I live in Algeria and the shipping comes from Paris (and that's a few hours flight) and I don't understand why other people have cheaper shipping methods while I only have USP.
I wanted to know If there are some other places other then official website where I could order the wallet with less shipping costs.

There might be a problem with their shopping cart; you should have the option of a less expensive method of shipping. Why not visit their help center at http://support.ledgerwallet.com/help_center click on help at the bottom and send them an email, see if they can program in a less expensive option to ship to your country. Hope this helps.

Check Ledger Nano S listing on Amazon and see how shipping rate compares?
