1621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are investors pulling out of Libra? on: December 25, 2019, 04:39:14 AM
I suspect because these big corporations know that Libra is an experiment bound to fail.

As a cryptocurrency, it doesn't have the aspect of decentralisation that cryptos like BTC have which prevent them from being censored by the government. Especially with how the Fed and other regulators have responded to Libra, it's not all so optimistic certainly.

Paypal for example obviously wants to diversify their own company portfolio in the payment services sector, but they won't invest in something that can land them in trouble potentially.
1622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Arbitrage bot or not? on: December 25, 2019, 03:20:45 AM
It's a big no from me.

From the outside arbitrage may seem like a risk free venture with potentially huge payoffs in the long run. We've all had this kind of fantasy I think. However practically you'll find that almost all (if not all) arb opportunities are either from exchanges that have some sort of inherent issue with them, like disabled withdrawals/deposits and/or have extremely low returns that will be eaten away by an transaction fees.

You're likely going to be paying upfront for the bot, which is another reason why you shouldn't do it.
1623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin bubble by 2023; capitalization up to 150 times, a research suggests on: December 25, 2019, 02:21:38 AM
It's highly unlikely for alts to rally to any extent close to the 2017 bull run that it saw.

Sure, there could be a bubble forming soon as a result of the hype brought by BTC's halving, but to suggest that this bubble will last until 2023 is a bit of a stretch in my honest opinion. Usually, bullish sentiments carry over in around 2 year cycles before slipping into a bear market like we are right now as opposed to 4 year cycles, which is sufficient for a halving event in itself.

Also, research like this is barely useful. There is simply no tangible proof to back it up with the way how regulation changes can all of a sudden affect markets without previous warning.
1624  Other / Meta / Re: Add to all market boards: "Warning: Moderators do not remove likely scams [...]" on: December 25, 2019, 01:20:14 AM
It's been years, I don't know why this hasn't been done yet. Nor have I seen a proposal.

It is tough to implement @theymos?

It shouldn't be too hard but maybe the priority is simply not that high at the moment.

It would be nice to have this kind of warning on all marketplace threads, but at the end of the day, I'm doubtful of how much it'll actually help.

People will continue to be dumb and deceived until at least the point they realise they've gotten conned out of their money, unfortunately.
1625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The biggest crypto fraud of all time on: December 25, 2019, 12:15:51 AM
I always think that bitconnect scam was the biggest in crypto space until i heard about one coin, a Ponzi scheme that defraud investors approximately $4 billion around the globe and one coin ceo have been missing since 2017, we really need to be very careful where w invest our hard earned cash, when a offer is too good to be true there is always more that met the eye

I remember people calling one coin the bitcoin killer, lol 😆 oh i hate centralized coins, the fact is there was no coin mined, no blockchain, nothing, I have never seen anything like it, any coin that claims to kill bitcoin is red flag lol,

Onecoin is more mainstream than bitconnect, it seems. But certainly in terms of the reputation that scams have gotten, bitconnect is one of the main ones still to this day.

The reason why these ponzis are so effective in scamming people is because people get sucked into the illusion, and have incentive to tell other people lies in order to gain referral earnings on their part. This is what made the schemes spread like wildfire.

Youtubers like Trevon James played big roles in perpetuating lies.
1626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your opinion about HEX? on: December 22, 2019, 11:26:28 PM
Usually the satoshi coins aren't ever going to break out. There are exceptions but usually the liquidity within the marketc is so low that no speculator would willingly invest in such a coin, unless it's airdropped or there is significant external demand for the coin somehow.

I'd stay away.
1627  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Faucet, casino, mixer, currency exchanger etc. all in one on: December 19, 2019, 03:45:14 AM
I mean, sites like Bitsler can already be used as all of the above.

However, the rates that they offer on currency exchanges as well as the lack of actual mixing mechanisms is what is preventing them from calling themselves an actual all-in-one solution that you're proposing.

I'm just wondering how you're going to be able to bankroll this site, and have that initial jolt of funding to kickstart it.
1628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are Legal Risks in Crypto World ? on: December 18, 2019, 11:15:40 PM
Legal risks? These are mostly just the regulations and definitions around ICOs in my opinion most of the time.

That is of course given the fact that your country actually allows BTC usage, because if they don't, then that is obviously your primary worry before anything else.

But anyhow, we've seen how hostile regulators and policymakers have been towards BTC and that attitude is hard to change. And with the vague rules in place everywhere it's tough to navigate yoruself around them for sure.
1629  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-05] SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce to Speak at Crypto Finance Conferenc on: December 15, 2019, 09:02:41 AM
A commissioner speaking at a public event probably has nothing to do with any potential SEC approval of any ETFs, so don't even start thinking in that direction because it simply won't come into fruition.

It's nice to see that he is at least somewhat aware of the crypto situation, however.

But then again, the commissioner doesn't represent the organisation. It's as simple as that.
1630  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-13] Bitcoin Mining in 2019: Renewable Energy and the Importance of Sich on: December 15, 2019, 07:47:37 AM
The narrative was always skewed against bitcoin. The simple fact is that bitcoin mining generally uses renewable energy or uses up excess energy on the grid that would have gone to waste anyhow.

But the media has shifted the facts to support their side, which is completly false.

There is still room to improve but the calls to stop PoW altogether is just absurd.
1631  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-14] Billionaires Buying Bitcoin: Bill Pulte Announces 11 BTC Purchase on: December 15, 2019, 07:04:18 AM
And what does this have to do with anything?

It's absolute non-news.

Just because someone with a high net worth bought BTC doesn't mean that all of a sudden BTC prices are going to hike. The fact is that demand of BTC is shaped by way more than that, with institutions and traders on leverage potentially having greater influence than even billionaires who simply buy a few BTCs here and there.
1632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will Stratis rapidly pumps after hitting above 4500 sats? on: December 15, 2019, 06:29:33 AM
I think that it was certainly a sizable resistance, perhaps even psychological at that level.

Stratis is one of the projects that I've been following since day one. Its fundamentals are above average I'd say and I believe that it has potential to pump the way it did back when its main trading platform was still Bittrex.

However this will all depend on the wider market conditions, including bitcoin's overall movements. Can't jump to conclusions yet.
1633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price- If Tether (USDT) go down, will it be good for Bitcoin? on: December 15, 2019, 06:05:31 AM
Will it be good? I highly doubt that given the influence that USDT currently has over the market.

However, I think that the detrimental effects that tether going down will have on the wider crypto market is overstated to an extreme degree at this point, because of the fact that USDT simply will not be the fundamentals underlying BTC's growth in the long run.

Perhaps short term we'll see a negative external shock, but in the long run, it barely matters.
1634  Economy / Lending / Re: Need loan 0.005 will pay back 0.005 directly on: December 14, 2019, 08:59:30 PM
And why would anyone be willing to fill this loan without collateral and without any interest earned on their part?

Use your common sense please. You've already gotten a neg and I suggest you lock the thread before you get more.
1635  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-13] Highest in 2 Years: 65% of Bitcoin Hash Power Is in China, Report.. on: December 14, 2019, 10:56:02 AM
A bit strange considering the circumstances in China and how the government has essentially vowed to shut all crypto businesses down.

The fact that still the majority of bitcoin's hash power is there is intriguing to say the least.

There's a lot of people worried about the centralisation that this may bring. However, imo as long as the distribution of hashpower is not centralised within a location, it doesn't really matter.

1636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin could reach $1,000 in a couple of years from now on: December 14, 2019, 10:20:38 AM
It is all dependent on bitcoins price.  I've said it before predicting prices in usd is fruitless.  If bitcoin goes to $1k would it be realistic that litecoin could reach $1k?  But what if bitcoin becomes $1mil each, then $1k litecoin would almost seem like a failure.  Usd prices for alts is all reletive.

Absolutely right.

BTC price is the main driver for alt growth despite whatever other people say. Also, fiat numbers have no intrinsic value in terms of evaluating the true cost of a coin - you'll need to adjust for inflation to do that accurately.

But yeah, I'd be long on LTC given the fact that it's been around a long time and institutions are probably more likely to buy LTC than a bunch of small caps.
1637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin software wallet on: December 14, 2019, 09:30:07 AM
I've used electrum LTC for a while now without any trouble. You can download the open source software any time as well.

If you are looking for purely web based then Litevault is an option. However AFAIK they don't have any segwit support nor do they have much functionality apart from sending and receiving, and all the operations are quite cumbersome.

Hardware wallet is still recommended if you can get your hands on one somehow.
1638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The best website to convert usd tether to makerdao dai or sai stablecoins? on: December 13, 2019, 05:50:37 AM
Binance is one of the better exchanges out there that still don't require KYC.

If you are looking for an instant exchanger however there's really a severe lack of good services available right now in this climate where regulators are cracking down heavily. You could potentially look at both Changelly and Changenow as options, but honestly, they're quite shady in their own rights.

But if you are going with small amounts, it shouldn't be that much of an issue anyhow.
1639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: $16M in Stolen Ethereum from Upbit Were Just Transferred on: November 29, 2019, 10:37:52 PM
Quote
As of now, I honestly think that if this one continues, hackers would become whales and become one of those who can control the cryptocurrency market.

No.

Firstly, the amount of coins you hold barely dictates the amount of influence you have over the market. You see regulators who probably hold zero coins, yet every single move that they make moves the market by a ton.

Secondly, these hacks are bound to happen. The frequency can obviously be decreased through better security standards, but even the safest exchanges will get hacked as a matter of time.

It'll be interesting how Upbit deals with this situation. It's no small amount for sure.
1640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin’s hashrate down 60% due to the latest Litecoin halving on: November 29, 2019, 10:12:20 AM
I'm fairly sure that it would be unfair to attribute all of the hashrate losses to litecoin's halving event. Rather, the decline in LTC values after the initial bull run earlier in the year likely had something to do with it as well.

The overall hash rate for smaller cap coins likely dropped as well, not just LTC.

Monetary incentive is a powerful thing, and there is no surprises here that capital will be always reallocated to the most profitable venture.
