1621  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: April 06, 2017, 03:05:20 PM
Just to let others know, I have used trezor for the past two and half years. It started malfunctioning about four months ago. The USB port stopped working. I have to press upwards on the USB cable to get the computer to recognize it. I removed all coins from the wallet and I finally got around to contacting SatoshiLabs to get it fixed. I was told it had been more than a year, so they would not help me. There response was go buy another trezor.  I find this unacceptable that Trezor is okay with hardware failure after only two years. You don't buy a trezor to only use it for one year; the company needs to change their policy and increase their quality control.

Trezor warranty has always been one year. I had one malfunction within 30 days and it was replaced free under warranty. Most hardware wallet owners keep more than one on hand just in case of unexpected failure. For comparison KeepKey warranty is also one year. Ledger Nano S is two years.
1622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Well, well, well, now we know what Jihan Wu’s been up to. on: April 06, 2017, 01:22:03 AM
tl;dr for someone just learning of the controversy. Please correct if I make any factual errors.

Greg Maxwell discovered by reverse engineering that a Bitcoin ASIC manufacturer had implemented in hardware a covert, hard to detect version of the AsicBoost algorithm developed and patented by Timo Hanke. Proprietary software is needed to take advantage of the hardware boost and can result in an energy cost savings of up to 30% which is a huge advantage over competitors. Kyle Torpey claims that the ASIC manufacturer is Bitmain.

The covert version of AsicBoost is hard to detect but would explain the odd behaviour of mining empty blocks by Antpool. The improvement in energy use is countered by SegWit, which could explain why Bitmain has been so opposed to adoption of SegWit: it would neutralize the competitive advantage they have from their covert use of a patented technology.

The whole BU drama appears to be nothing but smoke to allow the manufacturer (Bitmain?) to enjoy an unfair advantage over the competition for as long as possible. Greg Maxwell is working on a BIP that would render the advantage useless.
1623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best option to store BTC in hardfork event. on: April 05, 2017, 10:37:27 PM
Hi Guys,
I am very new to bitcoin. I just bought 5BTC. As I am following many blogs so can me know that there are some possibility of hardfork.
Some blogposts suggest to store coin in wallets like coinbase or blockchain.
In my further research I studied coinbase vs blockchain (http://coinfunda.com/coinbase-vs-blockchain/)which says that I should have control on some thing called private key. Which is possible in
block chain. Now I am worried about where to store my bitcoins safely. I want to store them for 1-2 years.
Please help.

With over $5K at risk you really should be using a hardware wallet to store your bitcoin. Both Trezor and Ledger have talked about contingency plans that will let you access both BTC and BTU in case of a hard fork.
1624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Set Decent Fee, 2 Hours Later 0 Confirmations on: April 04, 2017, 07:09:17 PM
If you look at both those transactions both of them have unconfirmed inputs. This means whoever sent the bitcoin used a wallet like blockchain.info which lets you spend unconfirmed inputs. It might take a few days for everything to get sorted as the earlier transactions have to confirm first before the later ones can. You can also use the ViaBTC transaction accelerator tool (Google it) to get the earlier transactions confirmed before they are dropped. Everyone needs to move away from that crappy blockchain.info wallet and others that let you spend unconfirmed inputs.
1625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Set Decent Fee, 2 Hours Later 0 Confirmations on: April 04, 2017, 06:26:10 PM
I just noticed that, you're entirely right. What will happen with these? Will they ever confirm?

I just pushed both transactions for you should confirm within a few hours.
1626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best option to store BTC in hardfork event. on: April 03, 2017, 07:59:05 PM
Someone who does not want the hassle of running both BTC and BTU full nodes can always just buy a Trezor. The developers have already stated in case of a hard fork users at the Trezor web wallet will be able to user select BTC or BTU.

1629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: LTC is the next pump, buy before moon landing!!!!! on: April 03, 2017, 02:02:35 AM
I'm telling you someday in the next week you'll wake up and see that LTC has landed on moon with a $45 market price. after seeing DASH and ETH pumped so fast I'm planning to liquidate my entire life, house/car/gold/bank accounts savings all included and buy LTC I might be able to earn 8 times over in less than a month.

What do you think?

Never put your eggs in one basket. There are miners who have been accumulating litecoin for a few years now and they are going to be selling into any rally, as well as bagholders who did not sell fast enough from the last pump. The smart move would be to hold mostly bitcoin with only a small portion of your holding in litecoin.

This is just the yearly pump and dump nothing to get your panties in a wad about.
1633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 30, 2017, 06:56:26 PM
Probably because they can and there are a ton of litecoin bagholders waiting to cash out. Look at the weekly chart, these litecoin pumps happen about once a year and are getting weaker a sign that there are fewer long term holders each pump.
1634  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hard fork? BTC? BCU? on: March 29, 2017, 05:22:13 PM
So which wallet is now safe for storing BTC, Jaxx?
I have the same question. Is Jaxx a good wallet for this hard fork?
I seems difficult to understand this matter(i am from Belgium and my motherlanguage is Vlaams and Nederlands.)
If there is a fork i hope that i get both coins on Jaxx without doing anything.Otherwise i think that a lot of not English speaking people will have problems if it get to complicated.I think also on unbanked people that have fate in BTC and now wil get confused if they don't get both coins without doing some things. If it gets to complicated i think it will harm BTC a lot .If there is a great possibility that if you get only one kind of bitcoin (and possibly the diying one)a lot of BTC holders will move to another coin.In that case ETH with second marketcap will be on the mind of many (especially unbanked , people with less education and people from small language groups).
Sorry for my English.

I would not trust Jaxx to handle a hard fork the way you wish. For someone not wanting to run both Bitcoin Core and BU nodes, the most convenient option seems to be a Trezor hardware wallet. The Trezor developers have stated that in event of a hard fork you will be able to use both BTC and BTU from their web wallet.
1635  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why you should stop using Coinbase on: March 29, 2017, 05:14:14 PM
Anyone have any complaints about Gemini?

What kind of complaints exactly? If you are speaking about their verification process etc... then I doubt they are any good then Coinbase because they are based in the U.S and we all know how "privacy" is handled there.

The usual as complaints with CB: slow customer support, unreasonable demands for verification, delays on fiat transfers in and out. Since Circle is out Gemini seems to be the alternative to CB for US users.
1636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: $25,000 to invest in anon cryptocurrency tech - best option on: March 28, 2017, 10:38:43 PM
Any cryptocurrency is risky you are really pushing the risk envelope with your altcoin choices. How did your research miss Monero?
1637  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Guys can you give what wallet are good alternative for Electrum? on: March 28, 2017, 10:31:56 PM
may i ask why don't you want to use Electrum? was there any particular problem or lack of feature that made you decide that?

in any case, you can visit https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet and see the alternatives. click on the platform you want to use the wallet on and then click on each wallet to see the details.
Multibit-HD is another SPV wallet which people usually go to.
Bither seems to be another SPV wallet but i have no idea how it works.
I heard many times about multibit-hd but is it lite weight or you still need to download the whole blockchain?

Electrum is the go to wallet right now as the dynamic fee calculator is very good and you can always use RBF to send replaceable, not to mention hardware wallet integration with Trezor and Nano S. The Android app is just as good but without hardware wallet support.
Yeah your right dynamic is really good but when setting for instant to slow almost highest fee that i seen right now .. unlike before that the maximum is 50k satoshi if you can seen the dynamic today they are asking for 0..001 or above.
So that is why i am looking for other wallet which is has similarity for electrum because electrum is one of the good wallet never had any problem but the fee is very high..

let me ask about the trezor if you still need to download the whole blockchain?
Never heard about nano S. but i'll check the official page.

Trezor works with Electrum but many users use it with wallet.trezor.io which uses the http://bitcoinfees.21.co API to set fees. You do not need to download the blockchain.

Well those are exactly my emotions right now, afraid that I missed the train since I am 100% in fiat right now, but I follow Afrikoin with blind eyes. I believe we will reach like he said $800 in coming days.

Don't follow anyone with blind eyes. Make your own trading decisions. Bitcoin is still in a bull market and has always rewarded those who hold long term.
