16522  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lets pretend for a minute that major BTC companies are scams. on: October 02, 2012, 04:26:40 AM
  • All startups selling mining ASICs either directly or access to them are scams.
  • Almost all GBLSE assets turn out to be a Ponzi or is only proftable as one.
  • Major exchanges sell fake BTC or buy BTC with fake USD.
The fact that EVERYONE isn't operating on this assumption already is of utmost concern to me. People are so blinded by their greed that they have forgotten all of the evil entities that prey on any new technology. People are so quick to hand their money over to some mostly anonymous person they met on the internet. And we're not just talking about bitcoins either. Bitcoin related scams are sucking up real cash just as much as they are sucking up bitcoins.

Make money slowly is the method that all good advisors recommend. The time to be an early adopter has come and gone and bitcoin is now in the make money slowly phase of it's life. A skilled speculator might be able to game the system but greed gets those peoples money too.

Mining has followed the make money slowly model for a "long time" now... ASICs may indeed come. I hope they do, I would like to own at least one. But I don't believe the profits promised are realistic. It will still be a make money slowly situation and anyone who tells you differently is probably a liar. I don't want to be first in line to own one thats for sure.

I'll sign up for a free FPGA any day of the week though and I don't care what sig I have to wear to get one cause I'm only slightly less greedy than the next guy.

Mining hasn't been about 'make money slowly' ever since gpu mining hit.

If you showed me any other investment where you could reasonable expect a 99% to 119% yearly --- when purchasing hardware that will retain 60%-80% of its value over that year... well... I'd call that investment 'get rich quick' too.
here's an informative poll - Minning Speculation -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=114802.0
16523  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 02, 2012, 04:03:18 AM
It seemed to be different from anything ive seen on the internet.
For me its something revolutionary in the very first steps but i dont think its the final bitcoin, what i mean its limited to 21 million what is really a small cap, there must be a split or a v2.0 bitcoin to make it masscompatible.
However, i think the model to create a valueable exchange good from cpu power is great.
Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes
i lied, bitcoin's going to the moon!  If people still think this to be true... lol nubs gata love'm Cheesy!
16524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What got you hooked on Bitcoin? on: October 02, 2012, 03:45:38 AM
I'm a programmer, i never looked at the code, but it was easier for me to understate how it all works... THE BLOCK CHAIN! its just one of these ideas that you know has value.

so i got 25$ worth with CoinPal ( i had to setup a PP account and wait 5 days for the bank transfer... Oh how i wish i had trasfered more, but i was buying my house THAT WEEK lol... Oh how i wish i had held off buying my house and dumped my savings in bitcoin! ...true story )

watched it go from 0.75$  ( i got in on the very last dip... right as the news "Bitcoin - P2P digital currency and SR!" was coming out  Wink ) and with it the bubble to 32$
... was totally blow away...

I bought more when it dropped.

I bought even more then it started showing signs of going back up Smiley

I bought stuff using some the coins. it was FUN! not like filling out a "Verified by VISA" forum.

I paid small amounts to members for helping me with thebitcoinrewview.com ( adding images, deleting dead sites...)

I'm hooked...
Code:
While( BitcoinFiatExchangeRate  >= 0)
{
   keep_on_bitcoining();
}

am i the only one that thinks its legit?

1:1000 leverage common... ( you'll get liquidated 3 seconds after you place the order... so why wouldn't they offer it  Wink )

That 5k wall at 12.84 feels like the most excitement we have had in a week. Yawn... lol

yes i was hoping for some action... Monday night madness. Look at my big wall manipulation... anything!

but, sadly price is stable...
16529  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [Poll] What have you doing with the coins you mined? on: October 02, 2012, 12:46:23 AM
If you buy stuff with it count it as selling.

if you hold them for 3-6 months and then sell them, consider that as selling.

If you buy ASIC's with mined BTC to make more BTC is that still considered selling? Or is that considered super hoarding?

Cheesy

  Roll Eyes super hoarding, defiantly vote hold.
16530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: October 02, 2012, 12:40:32 AM
Lol Adam I hope you buy once the wall at 12.50 is almost gone, because there is no turning back after that!

you mean to say:  the 12.50 wall is getting Bombarded and still its holding strong!

I'm not trolling.

Stabilizes at 5 -> jump to 15
Stabilizes at 12 -> drop to 9.50

price discovery? idk maybe!

i have 125 coins going with this little theory.  Smiley

Working draft for v1.7:
https://www.bitaddress.org/bitaddress.org-v1.7-SHA1-.html
- Using the SVG with the small dimensions from Psy's downloads (795px wide).
- At this moment you need Ubuntu fonts installed on your system for it to look proper. Meaning it's not using WebFonts.
- Check the "Art?" checkbox on the Paper Wallet tab to see the SVG art wallet. It is a 4MB SVG external download via iframe.
- Please note this is unsigned work and SVGs are capable of including JavaScript!

I feel the public and private QR codes should be the same ratio... so at this moment the white boxes are not the correct size. Also, there is a CSS oddity where Chrome is rending the private QR Code a few pixels more to left than Firefox or IE9....

+1

this is perfect, thank you

If any one wants an invite to the Bitcoin Business Alliance  ( BBA ) PM me.

Its free and theirs only one requirement really, you contribute to the improvement of  bitcoin.

In light of the pandemonium unleashed by the Bitcoin Foundation announcement, aren't you worried that 1) your name makes it sound like you speak for all bitcoin businesses when you clearly do not, and 2) you are excluding individual bitcoin users?

(This is only partly a troll.)

i don't speak for all bitcoin businesses  Huh

I'm just saying some of us chat work together at the BBA   Cheesy

seriously tho we are trying to attack the problem of scamming and fraud in bitcoin...
