How is the coin secured if it is proof-of-work but without a block reward?

because its all fully premined

I understand it is premined. But without mining how do blocks get made? How do transactions get confirmed?

Downloaded bootstrap.dat, synced from HD, restarted clam-qt and the last 20 or so weeks are syncing now from the network.

Only weird things is, when I want to start clam-qt from the GUI it won't start, only by using Terminal window and then run command ./clam-qt

If you're using my bootstrap.dat it's almost always less than 2 weeks out date. I think currently it's only around 4 days old, so it's odd that you're having to sync 20 weeks' worth from the network. I keep the post up to date with the number of blocks it contains, the date of that block, and the checksum of the bootstrap file each time I update the file itself.

I don't know what to tell you about it not starting from the GUI. Which desktop environment are you using?
1664  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed by GREEN TRUST Member - antonlevay on: February 13, 2016, 07:03:17 PM
That is another one who ended up scamming that dooglus has left positive trust for.

My trust feedback was true. I bought a small amount of SWC chips from him, and was able to withdraw them. SWC doesn't guarantee that they will honor chips bought from a scammer, and say they will sometimes reverse internal chip transfers, so I was taking a risk buying chips from him even though he sent first.

It turned out that I was able to withdraw the chips, so I left the positive feedback indicating that I trusted him and that it worked out.

Do you have a problem with that?

But when I start ./clam-qt I get this error: error initializing wallet database enviroment /home/username/.clam!

Do you have an existing wallet.dat in that folder, created using an incompatible version of the Berkeley DB? That's what it looks like to me.

Try renaming wallet.dat and trying again. It should make a new one. Use your old client to move any coins from the old wallet to an address in the new one.

Obviously, no one is going to support a method of limiting withdrawing CLAMs you already own, and Doog (so far as I can predict) would never be so tyrannical as to suggest such a notion.

Of course.

I think the solution for this is to offer staking-only to those people, so you can continue to collect staking rewards (minus the 10% commission) without being involved in the bankroll at all.

It will take me a while to implement the staking-only feature. Until I do, I won't drop the maximum offsite multiplier below 25x.

Couldn't you more or less implement this as a negative offsite amount?
People who want to go back to the old situation with no offsite would need to put -90% of their onsite coins as their "offsite" investment.

People who want no offsite just set their offsite amount to 0 - that works fine already.

I'm talking about people who want no bankroll risk at all, and only want to stake.

I could let them set their offsite to -1x ie. have their offsite amount be equal and opposite to their onsite amount, so they cancel each other out, but the problem is that your onsite amount changes as players win and lose, but your offsite amount is constant. So they wouldn't stay equal-and-opposite for very long.

I know some of that dumping was caused by myself....  used the clams as collateral to short other coins.  got called so clams got dumped.  Wasn't intended..

Part of the exposure having clams margin traded, and able to be used as collateral on Poloniex.

That's very interesting. It hadn't occurred to me that dumping could happen accidentally, as a result of a collateralized loan going bad.

So let's say you were shorting ETH using CLAM as collateral. That means you borrowed some ETH on the lending market and then sold it for BTC, hoping for the price to drop. When the price continued to increase your CLAM was automatically dumped for BTC, and that BTC was used together with the BTC from selling the ETH to buy back the ETH at the new higher price, and then the loan was repaid. So the lender gets his ETH back plus a little interest. You're out all your CLAM. So where did the value you lost go to? Other than the lender making a little interest, and the exchange making a little in fees, I guess the rest of your value ended up with ETH traders who bought cheap from you and sold back higher when you got margin called.

I find the mechanism both interesting and confusing. But also offtopic here I guess. So I'll shut up about it. Smiley

Anyone knows why CLAM price is going down ? Is there a new digger whale ? Anything I should know and I don't ?

Thx for your answers Smiley

Looks like someone withdrew around 7k from Just-Dice and sold it.

I see people in the Just-Dice chat complaining about how they feel betrayed by such behaviour. But shouldn't people be allowed to sell if they want to without incurring our wrath?
1671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: February 10, 2016, 07:01:42 AM
I hope it will come back soon

It didn't. But it came back after about 16 hours.

Down at 7am, back at 11pm. What a day! No fun at all...

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes.

I put up a temporary placeholder site here: https://just-dice.com/ and that's where I'll post updates.
I miss JD Sad

Me too!

Scrap all that, i forgot about the official IRC channel -> http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=clams

Well, it's not the official JD channel, it's the official CLAMs channel. But they don't seem to mind us hanging out there...

Btw, good luck getting the site back up.

Thanks.

doog, may I ask for generic non-identifiable details on the hardware / server set up of JD? I know some other sites are on dedicated servers, or co-located hardware, and some smaller ones are just on VPS. What kind of bandwidth or processor usage do you see with the number of users and/or concurrent connections, etc, that kind of stuff.

I'm kind of busy at the moment.
1676  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: February 09, 2016, 04:33:42 PM
The site is down after suffering a hardware failure.

The coins in the wallets are safe.

I don't know right now how long it will take to get it back up. I'll post more when I have more information.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have moved the coins from the hot wallet to a new hot wallet the staking address, in case anyone is watching and wondering why the coins just moved.

There's 3186 coins in the hot wallet which staked recently, are currently "maturing", and so are not movable. I'll move those as well once they have matured.

You and your friends, as you said, succesfully bought majority of digger's CLAMs. Good job.

I don't know if the digger made any private deals. He made none with me. I bought some coins cheap on poloniex when he dumped there. You seem to be implying that something unfair happened but as far as I can see the coins were sold to the highest bidder on a public marketplace.

Before that you blackmailed him with snapshot and new coin. You can easy do that again.

I didn't blackmail anyone. I proposed switching to a new coin and the idea was unpopular. I never threatened anyone with anything.

I don't see any problem with big dump, or is this just your right from now. At these price you still have over 200% profit. Congratulations.

The problem with a big dump is that it moves the price a lot. The dumper doesn't get as much as they expect to, holders find their holdings devalued, etc. The price now is much smaller than it was before the big digger dumped his coins.

It's not clear that anyone has 200% profit. The current price is over twice what the digger dumped it down to, but last I checked the entire buy book at poloniex was around 70 BTC, so if "my friends and I" attempted to dump the coins he sold to us we would probably make a net loss.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. You seem butthurt for some reason, but it's hard to know exactly why.
1679  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: February 08, 2016, 01:45:58 AM
People may be hurt by this change but it is a needed one, for clam and for everyone who gambles and invests at JD.

There is a slight difference due to people investing at 1x Kelly or so, but the majority were doing max.

There is a class of JD investor who is inconvenienced by this change: the investor who doesn't want to be bankrolling a dice site at all, and is really only interested in having JD stake his coins for him.

Until yesterday he was able to invest in the bankroll with no offsite. All the big 100x investors would dilute his investment so much that he was taking very little risk from players.

Now however his share of the bankroll has almost doubled as all the 100x investors are now only 50x. And his share will continue to increase as the maximum offsite multiplier continues to drop.

I think the solution for this is to offer staking-only to those people, so you can continue to collect staking rewards (minus the 10% commission) without being involved in the bankroll at all.

It will take me a while to implement the staking-only feature. Until I do, I won't drop the maximum offsite multiplier below 25x.

Note, of course, that even with a limit of 10x on the offsite multiplier, it's still less risky for the investors with no offsite than it was before offsite investment was first offered.

I was once accused of being involved with a "friend" as they say for pumping up the 2player sng to accumulate points for the leaderboard but i was playing with different players not just with a "friend" as they told me(This was a few weeks ago) and aren't it's supposed to be? to play as many as you can for the leaderboard? i told them what do i supposed to do? watch my points get taken over and just not play? LOL

They unlocked my account after several email exchanges, but the sad part is... they confiscated my chips worth 100+. Which really sucks bigtime!
Because all i wanna do is to just play.

This sounds crazy. They locked your account and confiscated your coins because you were playing too much?

I played pretty much non-stop for a week or two and they didn't lock my account. I was playing to build up my leaderboard points - what else is the leaderboard for if not to encourage people to play more?

Whoever is running the poker room really needs to think about what behaviour they want from their players, and reward that behaviour. If you want people to play lots of poker, give them stuff like leaderboard points for playing lots of poker. But then don't turn around and punish them for playing lots of poker! That just sends a very confusing message.

There's a rake on the heads-up S&G. The site should positively encourage friends to play heads-up against each other, since the site profits from every game that is played and there is no scope for collusion in heads-up.
