The largest Darknet market according to DeepDotWeb is AlphaBay and they are going to integrate Ether as well as Bitcoin and Monero for transactions May 1. When AlphaBay announced Monero integration last August Monero hit an all time high.
1663  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 20, 2017, 06:00:58 PM
Monero did not blast through the ATH as some expected but trend has definitely reversed; though I think market is overheated and time for a correction. Any price under .020 should be considered a gift. Consider loading up when a correction comes but also be careful of a double top at the ATH. If the ATH is taken out on volume buy on pull backs to support of course.
1664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum bubble will eventual burst. on: March 20, 2017, 05:38:10 PM
this is not a bubble imho, look at the all chart for many coins, everything is pumped, it's not about ethereum only, this only mean that new money have come to crypto and are pumping everything, buying blindly what they can, even bitcoin return almost to the point before the dump, i was thinking at first that the bitcoin money was moving to other cyrpto, but i was wrong it's definitely new money from newbie

Most altcoins are bought with bitcoin. Bitcoin holders are moving into altcoins as a hedge against falling bitcoin prices in case of a hard fork. Newbies have a hard time even buying bitcoin, let alone Ether and Monero.
1665  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: March 19, 2017, 11:47:01 PM
Both Trezor and Ledger Nano S can store an infinite number of bitcoins. There are no limits with HD hardware wallets. The security of your bitcoin private keys is your concern and depends on you keeping your 24 word seed safe. So don't do anything that could help a thief steal your private keys.

Don't store your seed online even encrypted. Don't store your seed on your computer or phone period. Write it on paper and keep in a safe or safety deposit box. The security measures you take is up to you, depends on how many bitcoin you own and your personal circumstances. Not everyone has access to a safety deposit box.

You can add a layer of protection by using a passphrase along with your seed but only if you are capable of remembering the passphrase. If you forget your passphrase your seed is useless and your bitcoin are gone, really gone.
1666  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 19, 2017, 07:02:00 PM
What is the point of having Monero on coinbase?

Coinbase has some six million accounts - people who are happy having online wallets and trust them to be secure. Coinbase - much like they did/do with Ethereum - would actively market Monero to its existing customers. They would, in effect, do the marketing job for us. That could be huge.

 - Coinbase have publicly stated that they would add new currencies this year.
 - Fluffy was invited to give a presentation there earlier this year. By all accounts it was well received.
 - The Coinbase product manager recently published a beginner's guide to Monero, just as she did for Ethereum a few weeks ago. This was written in conjunction with Coinbase engineers. Coincidence? Possibly, but unlikely.
 - The Director of Engineering - Charlie Lee - at Coinbase has publicly stated he thinks Dash is a scam.

So if Coinbase are gong to add a new currency and if it's not Dash, what's left? Given the (admittedly few) pointers, I would suggest Monero is a good bet.

It is neither illegal to own, buy or sell Monero. If Coinbase have a couple more hurdles to jump selling Monero than they would otherwise have selling another currency, then so be it. It's not a big deal for them. My money is on Coinbase offering Monero in the not-too-distant future.

Edit: Just noticed that Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, tweeted the Guide to Monero referenced above. If that isn't a recommendation, what is?

Where moner start guide?

1667  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S And Bitcoin Hard Fork.. on: March 18, 2017, 09:06:34 PM
So, if I stick all my BTC onto a Ledger Nano S and then a hardfork occurs I want to make sure I know what to do..

From what I can find so far as of now the only option is to, restore my wallet from the Nano to a Bitcoin software wallet using the seed phrase, and then export my private keys, and then import those keys to a wallet that supports the fork coins, so I would have 2 different wallets for different coins with the same keys..

Or, wait for the Ledger team to come up with coin split software update for the hardware wallet itself..

Am I understanding this correctly?
Anything else I should know?
Tell me all about it please, I want to be informed..

Ledger has it under control see this thread on reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/5zdefm/ledger_namo_s_and_btc_hardfork/

If both chains survive in the long time (which is quite unlikely IMHO) we'll handle this like ETH and ETC - run nodes for each chain and have a switch when the app starts

1668  Other / MultiBit / Re: I no longer support Multibit HD :( on: March 17, 2017, 09:55:08 PM
No issues with latest Electrum 2.8.1. Electrum is a top shelf wallet and the only local wallet you can run from a folder on your desktop (use the portable version) for privacy. Using the portable version you can take it with you on a flash drive and the wallet will not be writing to your HDD.

According to the statement – backed by Bitfinex, Bitstamp, BTCC, Bitso, Bitsquare, Bitonic, Bitbank, Coinfloor, Coincheck, itBit, QuadrigaCX, Bitt, Bittrex, Kraken, Ripio, ShapeShift, The Rock Trading and Zaif – the exchanges would list the BU asset under the BTU or XBU tickers in the event of a network split, which they collectively say "may be inevitable".

That's some really great news!
The big exchanges would list BU as an alternative asset in terms of a network split!
So even with less hashrate BTC keeps being BTC.Awesome!

I'm a bit technically ignorant about this. Would the BTC need to be sitting on an exchange at the time of fork? I'm just wondering because I have some sitting in a multibit wallet.

If a hard fork is imminent and you want to preserve your options you should have your bitcoin on your own computer and run both Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Unlimited. After the fork you will have double your bitcoin with the same balance on each fork. But added together the total value will be less than before the fork is my best understanding. We really want to avoid a contentious hard fork.
1670  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Alitin Mint Coin Breach on: March 17, 2017, 05:47:14 PM
I have a feeling we will never see this list of 600 addresses. Enough requests have been made now.

He should at least say why he isn't releasing the list. Otherwise it seems very suspect that he is dodging the question altogether.  We've also heard very little about where the breach may have occurred.

Since the FBI is involved you should not expect any statements that are not approved by his lawyer. Saying nothing is certainly what his lawyer has advised. People talk when they should shut up and incriminate themselves all the time.
1671  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Set Up Mycelium With Ledger Nano S on: March 16, 2017, 03:39:19 PM
I believe i did this initial set up properly. But on the Accounts page it says, Contains one private key, and then it says, Backup Missing in red ink. Am i to do a back up even tho I have the Ledger?

thanks, brad

1672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 15, 2017, 07:17:25 PM
Monero is just late to the altcoin party. It think before the alts pump is done even Litecoin may join the party.
1673  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hard Fork speculation thread on: March 14, 2017, 08:28:17 PM
Dumping bitcoin core coins you mean ? , if i understand you right.
But core is 80% of the total mined coins right?
Correct my if i am wrong, i am not sure.
Just keep your BTC in a cold wallet like Ledger and you will be fine i think.
Is there a real chance that a fork will happen? I doubt it.

I explained it as clear as i can. But i ll try again.  Tongue

Lets say you have 100bitcoins in your electrum wallet. When BU makes a hard fork, you will be able to claim another 100 bitcoins in your Bitcoin Unlimited wallet. Those bitcoins in your BU wallet will have a value in your regular bitcoins.

They will have the same value(1:1) at the beginning but in time, people will dump one of them to get the other. I mean, think about litecoin has a rate with bitcoins. After the HF, there will be 2 bitcoins, and they will have a rate between them also.

I expect the price to go %50  below of what it is now.

which wallet u suggest? blockchain, trezor, electrum?

Electrum is not the best option if a hard fork happens because you have to be careful the remote node you connect to is supporting the chain you want to transact on. Trezor is a better choice IMO. You own your private keys securely offline. When the last hard fork scare happened Trezor devs said they would run two instances of the online Trezor wallet so you could choose which chain to sell on. Running your own Bitcoin Core node is also a good choice if a hard fork appears close.

Both DASH and ETH seem to be treading water right now waiting for BTC price to move first.

1677  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: how long should it take to show btc in my wallet after sending them? on: March 13, 2017, 07:03:40 PM
If new users do not understand that the Bitcoin Core node has to be fully synced before use the directions and warnings need to be improved.
1678  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 13, 2017, 02:43:37 PM
If Monero takes out the Jan 5 swing high of .0169 I expect a new ATH. Monero is just late to the alt party going on.

1679  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2017, 02:22:53 AM
I think a factor in the high price is that people who thought it would be safer to wait until an ETF was available to get in because of institutional protection, their lack of tech knowledge, whatever, have realised they don't get that luxury and have starting buying directly. This is a bit of a silk road v2 situation IMO, everyone thought the value was due to X and then X vanishes and it retains the value = collect jaw drop and then FOMO.

Yup. Hardware wallets are selling out fast.

Why use an ETF when you can hodl your bitcoins at home on a Trezor? (If you can find one to buy).

No kidding. After long time considering buying one I finally did past week and I couldn't be happier now. Way better and more secure than my previous mess of having some in exchanges, some in software wallets and some in paperwallets.

Now I can only recommend to anyone that doesn't have one to buy one asap. It's a whole new dimension. There's really no reason not to have one except maybe for someone with less than 1btc.

I did buy a Ledger Nano S though, which is mostly the same than Trezor.

I use Nano S and Trezor. I like Trezor better because I can use it with one hand but that is a minor quibble. It is a good idea to keep a portable copy of latest Electrum on your desktop if you are using the Chrome apps for Nano S; once in a while the Ledger servers have a problem usually on a weekend. If you trade Ether you can use MyEtherWallet as a backup to the Ledger Ether Chrome app.

My trezors handle:
1) bitcoin transactions etc.
2) password manager
3) u2f 2fa

Do Nano S devices do all of these things? I might check them out one day if they do.

With a trezor do I need a desktop computer? I do everything on my mobile.

You can do everything from your phone if you have a newer Android that has OTG capability. You use Trezor Manager to set up your new Trezor then Mycelium for transactions. You may have to check Amazon for an OTG cable that works with your phone.
1680  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who moderates bitcoin-dev mailing list? on: March 13, 2017, 01:05:03 AM
I think you ran into a problem because bitcoin-dev is meant for serious discussion among developers. Anyone can post but off topic posts will probably be deleted. I have been reading the list for years but have never posted. Here are guidelines:

Quote
This list is lightly moderated.

- No offensive posts, no personal attacks.
- Posts must concern development of bitcoin protocol.
- Posts should be technical or academic in nature.
- Generally encouraged: patches, notification of pull requests, BIP proposals, academic paper announcements. And discussions that follow.
- Generally discouraged: shower thoughts, wild speculation, jokes, +1s, non-technical bitcoin issues, rehashing settled topics without new data, moderation concerns.
- Detailed patch discussion generally better on a GitHub PR.
- Meta-discussion is better on bitcoin-discuss.

I have no idea who the moderator is sorry.
