I think $1000 is achievable on Monday.  China and Mt Gox are history now

So what part of the adoption scale are we?

I would say late innovators area but that is just a wild guess. I have no idea what percentage of the population is active in bit coin.
Early adopters I reckon.

Innovators typically get involved in bitcoin for tech reasons.  Now we are at the point where people are getting in for utility of bitcoin and its potential returns as an investment.

I know that motives are not what defines an innovator from an early adopter, but it is a decent indicator in the lack of actual adoption stats
1703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: big news, bitcoin address top1 changed yesterday on: May 25, 2014, 06:27:18 AM
I really think that's an irrational fear though. While it could happen, I just really don't think it would. The amount that could be earned as a result of NOT doing that is so substantial I don't see anyone throwing it away like that.

Sure it is. But it's never really hurt to be prepared for the unexpected/unlikely and there are certainly examples throughout history where the highly improbable/illogical has happened before. You never know - there could be parties who stand to lose if Bitcoin gained traction (ie banking sector) so someone with an incredible holding in bank shares might want to debase Bitcoin rather than devalue those shares.

Bah, but it really is just mere speculation. In all honestly, if people wanted to destroy Bitcoin enough it would have died back in '11/'12.
Even if the price went back to $0.01, I think BTC would still survive.  Everyone would be picking up coins left right and center at that price

We are somewhere between 14-15

If we're lucky, yes.

Worst case I can see realistically is that we're at 13 (and go back another time to 400s, maybe high 300s, but won't make a new low).
Yup worst case is 13.  But if you look at 2 year chart, it does appear that 13 was the April 16th rally

It seems every time I find something that looks promising, I'm just a sucker waiting to give someone else a payout.  I have been following advice a gentleman offered to "hodl" my bitcoin, from $984 all the way down to now $436.  I've just been fooling myself, telling myself "Don't worry hon, it will go back up! It always has!"  I've been spending my time reading the forums and hoping.  My friends called me crazy when I told them it's a sure thing.  The shame is just as bad as the lost money.  So I quit.  You guys win.  Coins sold.  Sad

I just love it when noobs lose their money!  Cool

That's just fucking mean.
I feel sorry that the OP has 'done a Veronica' - I really do.. i almost can feel her shame. Imagine people laughing at you because you actually LOST money on bitcoin?
You need patience and you'll be well rewarded.. but it takes time, balls and a true understanding of what HODL means. Veronica, sadly never came to grasp this.

Another new phrase in the bitcoin dictionary?

Credit goes to blatchcorn - first post on this page.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. Didn't catch it myself. Hail blatchcorn!

Finally my place in bitcoin history!

1715  Economy / Speculation / Re: thinking about buying 5k in bitcoin on: May 23, 2014, 07:01:16 AM
Buy now, after the next bull run we will never see below $1k anymore.

I think the OP is too late now. He will be fighting for 2100 satoshi 2 years from now Grin

Not sure what you mean, what am I am to late for? I already have 5.14 coins that I bought at/under 450 and it is up to 530. Not sure where else I can make that kind of return on investment this fast. Even if I buy at 530 and it goes up, nothing beats the return. (at least to my knowledge)
You can buy Ripple  Grin
1716  Economy / Economics / Re: Does anyone else feel like Bitcoin is a safe investment? on: May 23, 2014, 06:59:46 AM
Bitcoin is backed by no legal authority.

I won't really considered it safe as fiat at least is backed by the government.
And the government does a good job of backing it, right?

Never mind.

How man people live to 100?

Wheres the chart of salary inflation?
Wheres the chart of housing prices?

Those variables are already reflected in the purchasing power of the dollar

Where is TERA amid this froth?

Yup. Good question.
She's gone quiet from the moment we went up.
Considering she lives in a fantasy world she probably just couldn't believe we went up and refused to buy back in as her buy orders at 280 weren't filled and now she finally woke up realizing she has a big problem.
It's quite hilarious how she has dissapeared since.

Don't worry. She is just calibrating her graphs.
TERA here is a graph for you:

It is simply not true that it is easy to hack and you can just wake up to all your money gone.  If this was the case, don't you think every hacker in the world would have gotten a piece of Satoshi's billions?  The only way for your bitcoins to be stolen is if you give away your private keys or your computer becomes infected with malware, both of which are normally user-error.
