I like the idea of having a bitcoin ATM. Hopefully we can also have it here in Pakistan. It would be much better than a third party site to do the exchange I believe. More secure, less vulnerable and handy to have access all the time.
i see no point in it, it also cost money and require some id, which is against what bitcoin is Well this is maybe the reason why bitcoin atm is not that popular It just conflict the idea of bitcoin as being anonymous which is really not 100% and can be traceable with the use of the third party people. Just like what happen to someone who is known customer of coinbase LOL. Many of the naysayers here and the ANON Limites are very COUNTRY specific. Be aware. Jurisdiction IS important in this discussion. UK is very relaxed, other places not so much. Our ATM's (and those of our competitor) do VERY well thanks proving that ATM's ARE a greta idea when done right AND they're in the right place. And out users love them.

ATMs sound like something of a lottery. You never know what you're going to be charged, how much ID they want or whether they're actually there any more. If there was a good one near me I'd make use of it but some of the premiums you here about would make me squeal.
Do you live somewhere where you have an over the counter type of thing? In the UK there've been a few attempts to offer Bitcoin via the same places you can pay your electricity bills or pick up mobile phone credit. They did all seem to fade away though.
CoinATMRadar.com is your friend, theyusually have the rates of the ATM in your area if there is one.

Some friends and I are considering using a bitcoin ATM to do some online shopping. Would it be worth using a bitcoin ATM rather than just an internet exchange site?
What are some advantages and disadvantages to both? Any tips or anything I should know ahead of time before using an ATM?
Thanks in advance!
A couple of things... What country are you in? It's a useful detail In the UK, ATM operation is far more relaxed and an easier business to run than in somewhere such as the USA. As an ATM operator we find that many of our customers love using them for ease, simplicity and anonymity. Also, a number of our customers are not as tech savvy as say the forum users here that decry using one. Remember, not everyone is as competent as you (*looks around the forum.....) Some people see/hear of BTC and rather than "risk" (in the their eyes) the wild west frontier of Exchanges (which get a bad rap due to things like Gox and Finex) they see ATM's as a Safe option in their world. So, yes, ATM's definitely have their place in the world of BTC and they're growing in number for a reason, people WANT to use them, simple. Fee's can be high with some yes so it pay's to shop around, but then convenience comes at a cost in most markets and in this Bitcoin ATM's are no different. Hope that helps. Viz

Considering whats available in the market and the legalities in the USA, you're overpriced and waaaay behind the curve. That horse has bolted... a long time ago. Do some market research.
And your Paycoin associations will not help.
Remember, because some never forget.

I would love to see a Platinum 1BTC coin released. I do not think anyone has dropped a Platinum coin yet.
The problem with Platinum is similar to the use of Gold and Silver, which I have mentioned before: Essentially, certain countries have very strict restrictions on the import and export of precious metals, such as Gold and Silver. The countries I can think of are USA and China, and possibly many more. These rules affect our exporting (from China), and will affect how your country receives them via customs. This is especially true of the precious metals get made into "coin" form, which could trigger real money mintage and currency issuance issues (regulatory and legal liabilities). Basically, I foresee this as a whole mess that we really don't want to get into (unless we were our own government and had the banking of a central bank!) Your thoughts? Or, hope to get your understanding on this matter... that we're almost never going to be able to make and sell coins made of Gold, Silver, or Platinum. The only exception would be for us to make them, and you come over here to pick them up in Shanghai. For that, the production run would be really limited, and the costs and premiums could be quite high. Now, if there's enough interest, anything is possible. If you guys really want it, please help gather people, pre-order, and we can consider doing a custom run for really low volumes, so that everything is pre-sold and paid for, and never listed on the store. thanks, Bobby there is ANOTHER way..... Coins made in EU/USA and you apply holos and codes HERE.... This would make them easier to sell/move. caveats would be - Dyes and stamps for production. Confirmed order for precious metal coins - possibly paid upfront. Security while you "create" them? Storage of coins while waiting to be sent, you'd need a trusted person this side of the world. Not impossible but would require some work unless you have someone in mind already. Viz

I see, the price actually goes down to $5 a coin I failed to mention that. The hologram would stick to the back. I have already messed around with stickers and the like
If I go with poker chips there is no indenting to put the private key. That's why I think it would be better to just print a nice design
You are of course right about the indent and that's something that, if the design is of a high enough standard and the chips of good quality I think would be acceptable. The alternate view would be to get them "routed" so a small indent is created there, but as with all things, add a process and you're adding cost. Lots to research and time to spend... Numbering was also another issue with the choice being "on holo" etching or "on chip", but then materials plays its part in that drama too.... As a result of our previous chat I did actually follow up with some manufacturers and holo makers.... it was an interesting pursuit and one that may yet yield dividends. Viz

I'm going to withdraw from my purchase.
I appreciate the effort you have put in but these, as they are at the moment, do not reach our desired quality standards for retail or resale to a consumer market. They just won't stand up, sorry.
If you can resolve the issues of finish and overall quality I'll re order.
Thanks and good luck

For additional clarity. The above is a mixture of sources. The quote from me above was in respect of some coins that I had bought from Matthew and was subsequently requested to return. the rest of the information is taken from Elias's Encyclopedia of Bitcoin. I still have the original email requesting the return of the coins. Mail dated 03/06/14 ".... and I will replace all affected coins free of charge obviously. However all 12 of the ones I sold to you are affected. Do you have any of them left? Regards, Matthew" As items go these coins are, I believe, quite rare as most customers returned their faulty coins. I was unable to at the time and them forgot as life got in the way. A shame on one level as I missed out on my BTC but history seems to be repaying me Of the 12 I had, I know of only 2 of them (that I gave away to friends and family) that are in "safe" hands, I have 3 left and have sold 1. So, that's 6 of the 12 with definite provenance and still in "circulation"
