Plague information update

(results are based on die, and build on the previous hints)

Does the plague hit some people more based on their general characteristics: No, it is pretty much equal.

Is silver in some form the miracle cure: Probably not.

Does drinking a few bottles of a variety of spirits give better effect than a lot of one type: I don't know.

Is it possible to get more accurate information by spending SCI: Yes, very much so. Spend and ask a question like from every good oracle Smiley

Thank you all who have listed their merchandise. I don't see price gouging, so it's a good time to stock up.

Schedule for the weekend

It is again full moon, so the migration has been scheduled for the weekend.

- Today(Thu) I send the PMs announcing that you can take control of your Ultima account or leave it to wm's (Jacket proposed the title "health manager" because seldom is the bulk of the job about wealth).
- Tomorrow(Fri) after the "deliberate drinking" deadline (noon) the nonclaimed accounts will be given to wm's. Many will still wake up and possess theirs later, in this case from the wm.
- A good chance to buy the drinks for the plague evaluation, the wm will do for those who did not possess their accounts.
- Year change will jump from 1606 to 1608 with double cost/payout script.
- Health challenge will be admin-evaluated Saturday afternoon and also the rest of the year change happening latest then.
- Database will be frozen and migrated to Ultima.
- People will be given their individual accounts on Sunday.

Ultima development is more modular and transparent than before. The near-term prioritisation has been updated based on player wishes:

1. Ensuring the integrity of the data, fixing the urgent issues arising from actual play by the characters
2. Finishing the New Player Login / EXP / Tutorial-push-message module
3. Supplying enough tools to conduct year change into 1609 next weekend (mostly manual but tools still)
4. Finishing the API
5. Fixing the matching script in the exchange.

We can give estimates, but will forsake the use of larger release packages and fixed release dates from now on (track record is pretty bad). Due to modularity and agile development, we can release all new features in very small pieces, even in every 1-2 weeks, directly to the game, without disturbing our work flow.

The estimate to get all of the above done is 2-3 weeks, counting from Saturday. Then our game would be having the following versions' functions (according to the original dev schedule from 2014):

1. Ancients <- more than original, eg. corporations were originally in v.6 Smiley
2. Online <- more than original spex, eg. freesize lots
3. Sandbox <- more than original, eg. command line in addition to API
4. Economy <- more than original, eg. items management originally in v.7-8

And not yet that of the following:
5. Skills and Businesses <- this includes the subgame formulas, which were added to Pocket Economy in January and hijacked the Economy development, later scrapped
6. Health and Sustenance <- many of the concepts have been experimented with already
7. Countryside
8. Beyond <- the exact naming and numbering has varied constantly, but now we will intend to get rid of it and rather think in modules.

So, originally the ancient era was scheduled to last 100 days, which would be enough to reach Economy. Now it looks like that the corresponding features will be developed in 80-90 days, starting from scratch. It is nice to know that our original estimates were not wrong as such, we just had very bad luck.

The prices of carriages are such cheap, and situation in the Kingdom such peaceful, that it is well suitable for Masters to buy a car like they did in postwar Europe. Just remember that it does not move without 2 trained horses, which can be bought from the Fluffy Pony.

We will evaluate the need shortly.

How is the availability of horses, SirJacket?

I would like to donate 500 CKG to the church to honor the King.

Ah the promotion of you and of the Prince Royal seem to have come at a bad time with the announcement of the plague coming directly afterwards  Sad

Such is life, however. On behalf of the one honored, we thank you (Church will hopefully also react when they have time from the beer distribution).

The Prince Royal is planning an opulent party to celebrate his appointment. It would be held when the plague has ended. It would coincide with the royal Migration party, more about this in the next announcement.

In the haste of trying to find a gift to give to OZ for his promotion (not an easy task even for a King to find something OZ does not have in sufficient quantity, to match even the crumbs of his magnanimousness..) we postponed the gifting altogether. Now, inspired by the above, we:

- Give 20,000 CKG to the Prince Royal (since they are Royal funds and we are just guardians, everyone)

- Give 5,000 CKG to James Daniel (he is a minor until 1614, so this is kept with the monarch until that)

- Give 1,000*W1600M outright to boost the character healths in the honor of H(S)H The Prince of OZ (the gift is part of the previously announced 3,000 bottles)

- Give 1*CLXII to each character who is 100 years or more old, and does not already have at least 1 bottle, in the honor of the Marquess of Grass

- Give 1*W1603A to each character, in the honor of the Marquess of Naoned

From action in the lending market it very much looks like a large amount of short selling, as noted earlier on this thread. That might be manipulative (trying to force margin calls on leveraged longs) or it could be people overreacting to the ZeroCash stuff, or something else.

Thanks for this info. I am not full time on this just now, so this may be off. Anyway, I don't believe any ZeroCash has any effect. My previous unglamorous explanation was miners, but they don't need to short in order to cash out   Wink

The market looked weak and ready to break down. Somebody forced the invisible hand. This might prove a good move if 180k becomes a resistance, but was a lousy move if we bounce back.

Having been immersed with the long term stuff lately, it just looks funny this little game.
1746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: October 01, 2015, 01:44:51 AM
HSH Sir Karl Hungus, The Prince of OZ, has been created Duke (L13).
"The promotion to Duke was for long held as unachievable, but over time, the most active and strategically important players have had their character promoted. In the eve of a new era, we are most grateful to bestow the title and the Dukedom to this most serene of all players."

This is such a wonderful honor, and I am truly humbled to be recognised by HM in this way. I will do everything in my power to live up to the standards and conduct required of this elevated position in CK society. I would like to donate 500 CKG to the church to honor the King.

The characters in the game have more freedom to choose their name and address, the higher they go in the ranks. We are now inquiring about the 3 names you will be using now and in the future:

"shortname" must be unique, max 12 characters, and no spaces. It does not change, and is used for instance logins, alternative char_id in commands, and chatrooms. Yours is "OZ".

"full name" does not need to be unique, but of course in practice it is. It is used in most listings. There is no fixed length, more than 30 becomes a bit excessive. Yours has ranged from "Karl Hungus" to "Master Karl Hungus" to "Lord Karl" to "Sir Karl, The Earl of OZ" to "The Marquess of OZ" to "HE The Prince of OZ" to "HSH The Prince of OZ". Here it is possible to use any titles or address honorific possessed, the current players don't probably know it because they are so content with the scheme. Now according to the standard scheme the name would be "HH The Duke of OZ" (We have heard that OZ is a pretty big place so can be called a duchy, otherwise the name would change to indicate the new duchy). But any variation of personal name, any honorifics achieved (HE, HSH, HH), any earl- or dukedom in a county or duchy, possessed title such as "Dr." etc is permitted. Some styles have more style than the others; conformist people prefer simple styles, but some variation can be seen.

"title" is the letterhead and social introduction format of the name, displaying the holder's status, but also giving information about him. The length is unlimited, and any parts of the name, titles, honors, orders, even badges, can be (even: should be) listed. Title is free to edit but wrongful pretension is a crime. Rightful methods to gain title parts are appointment (by the King, Pope, Mayor, AGM), election and general recognition. The latter means that if you call yourself "Inventor of the Wheel" long enough, and it is not contested, soon you will gain the right to have this title, and after a few decades people will start to believe you actually invented the wheel! This trickery is a delicate art and definitely tasteful only for people who have some military in their command and bottles in their cellar, if even then.

I would like to have you think about this matter. Changes can be made in the /CHAR or asked here (specify if someone still needs to record it).
1747  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 30, 2015, 10:30:11 PM
Any speculation on when will Monero have a useable and bug-free GUI wallet?

No exact date, but just a range estimation: weeks, months?

MyMonero was launched last October, and is one candidate technology to be included to Crypto Kingdom player-controlled out-of-game account, which can be accessed from the game, but the players only holding the use key. The players also control their ingame wallets, which feature instant and free transactions, but have the counterparty risk because the actual XMR is deposited with a treasurer and the game can change their balance (similar to exchange accounts).
1748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 30, 2015, 09:11:36 PM
The price is now down to 8 deposit bottles/XMR.

One 1-liter bottle buys you more than 1 XMR...

Royal Plague Battling Plan

1st iteration

The health of the characters of the Kingdom is at stake. We the Royals (the King and Zechariah, The Prince Royal) join forces to combat the dangers.

Background:

The gamemaster does not have omniscience in this health challenge. So I am not acting to say that the nature of the plague is uncertain. What is known is the health challenge datatype - a threat to lose X pips of health is meted out to characters (with X being dependent on many factors including large randomness, and different for each), and player actions (consuming drinks as the main one) can reduce it even to zero. The unmitigated amount is deducted from the character's health in the end.

Because the challenge unfolds piecemeal, I can speculate freely, and they may or may not prove correct and relevant to the challenge, or miss the mark totally. Only when the challenge is about to be evaluated, do I get the numbers, both of the challenge AND of the cures. But then it is too late to do almost anything. I can still buy bottles if there are some sold at the market, but I cannot buy a house for instance, if such is needed, or gain a blessing, if that would have spared me.

It seems a reasonable assumption that the plague is related to unhealthy living conditions as usual, but it was also mentioned that the situation in other lands might have affected. There may be some conditions that make the plague attack some people more heavily (old age is revealed to be a condition making annual health challenges more severe). These can be found in time so that they may be acted upon. To get the grasp of what these other living conditions are, use /CHAR table and ownership of /I_TYPES and use your logic, imagination and knowledge of the game and general history.

The roll about the most potent cure gave the answer that certain spirits, but not which ones. Spirits can be ranked with many parameters, eg. type of drink, manufacturing process, source of sugar/starch, source of water, age, country of origin, grading. Exact scientific reason why a certain parameter in a drink might kill the plague and the other be just normally effective is not coming (because the plague generator is not programmed to know it).

To get more information on the plague, a sizable spend of SCI is possible. Information is made public and everyone is grateful that so much of the public health was spared (as well as expensive drinks).

Action Plan:

Spirits are the key that we currently know of. There is about 16k bottles of spirits in the game, and 10k of that is VOH. VOH sales have happened at 0.500 range though current ask is much higher. VOH will anyway be a very potent drink now and in the future, so coercing this supply from the owners cheaply is not possible. Also our combined stock is only 13% of the game total.
=> King will give a maximum of 300*VOH to Prince Royal, to be sold to characters with a low balance of VOH at reduced prices.
=> Prince Royal increases his buy price of VOH and seeks to sell his stock to the market at market prices.
=> All characters who have excess VOH are encouraged to do one/both of the above.

Other spirits. Our combined holding is 20% of the game total, and Tavastia has been mostly vainly trying to sell his stocks in the past. Now it is expected that many will catch a bid. (It is notable that the rich already have enough spirits, so it is the middle class now who are buying, and price is expected to be contained by the costs from below and limited funds of the buyer from above.)
=> Prince Royal lowers spreads and seeks to offer liquidity to the market in all spirits.
=> RME is not properly distributed. Owners are encouraged to market it now as the market is good.

W1600M. This wine was bought 8 years ago and it is a good wine maturing exceptionally slowly. We are not oblivious to the fact that it represents more than 10% of the gross wine stocks of the Kingdom (the storage is now organized in the 400 sqm cellar buried under the Summer Pavilion). This will be kept as a reserve-of-last-resort, none of it will be sold (none of it has ever been sold, all has been gifted) but instead of sparing it for the enjoyment in the 250-ary, we increase the chances of at least some of us getting there.
=> Up to 3,000 bottles of this wine will be used to spare good people from dying in the challenge, so that they are administered during the challenge evaluation to active characters who were prepared according to their means, yet had bad luck in the roll.

W1603A. Our stocks are about 24%. This wine has been the favourite since it was founded. It is expected that it will be heavily consumed now because it is showing signs of reaching peak, and it is known to be healthy. The issue is that in the beginning it was well distributed roughly according to the general preference to drink wine, but now is more peaked as smallholders have consumed theirs. It is in general interest that the bulk of this wine (10/14k left) gets finished off reasonably quickly.
=> Similar arrangement as with VOH, to give smallholders a possibility to buy at reduced rates, smallholding defined as balance of the item.

Other wines. The challenge caught us by surprise, so the King might be on a buying side for these rather.
=> Prince Royal seeks to provide liquidity.

Information on the challenge, SCI spends.
=> All information will be promptly disseminated. We decided to not spend SCI on the project though, believing that giving out 1,000s of bottles of free wine is our duty since we have the wine, and donating SCI is the one's who has it.

Houses, suits, carriages, silver.
=> All we can ask is that the people acquire them (especially if they have none) because common knowledge is that having a place to sleep does not worsen a disease.
1750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 30, 2015, 06:24:46 PM
While the development of Ultima has been spearheaded to API (which the wizard said is his core competence so wizardly progress is to be expected promptly), and the migration about to finally start...

... the plague demands our immediate attention.

Luckily the die has released some information about what might help. I will collect the new and previous insights as I get them (repeating what I said that the exact formula of the challenge nor the exact way how drinks and other stuff help is not even known to me yet):

- There is a strong hint that some drinks have disproportionately big effect ("medicine") on the plague, while these likely being spirits.

- Serje warned about drinking 100 or more bottles of VOH while encouraging lesser amounts. Therefore, max amount that is allowed to be consumed is 99 bottles in the player discretion batch and 99 bottles in gamemaster batch. These cannot be combined (who wants to risk instant death!) so I can only consume 99 bottles even if my quota was 800 bottles in total. Players may do what they want but I have a personal suspicion of consuming too much of any same liquor so will not consume more than 99 bottles of any one stuff at one time.

- All normal rules that you have had experience on, stay in effect so no need to rewrite the decipher guides

- /WINE tab has been updated with changes until 1608

- Due to the postponing of Duty Paid (and the easy way to make custom items), all CKS owned is treated as if being an amulet

- We remind you of blessing and the results of it in earthquake damages. Church may grant Very, Most and Blessed character attributes at their discretion, and they have currently blessed about 20% of the PC with level 1 blessing.

We look forward to:

- HH The Duke of OZ, to present a plan if the Medical Center in 1-C can be of any help and if so, how!

- One of the councillors taking the task of distribution of MEAD stocks to the needy. Town feels its highest priority in the situation is to provide MEAD to those who don't have the means to buy more potent drinks. MEAD has historically been given for free and sold at 0.001 and we don't have intention to deviate from this policy for excessive gain. Enlist to me.

- Church doing the similar thing with BEER, which also alone is hardly sufficient to combat plague, but it would be a crime if people did not have anything to drink due to not being prepared with 800 bottles (that few have). We have not mandated any minimum or maximum price and do not do it now - they are up to the task with the challenges.

- Every large owner of wine/spirits stocks, namely:

King
Prince of Ramsey <- no wonder he is King's Hero; acted before request!
Duke of OZ
Prince Royal
Marquess of Rome
HH of North Face
Marquess of Grass
The Church
Sir Riddick
Marquess of White Cross
The Golden Harp Corp.

(large being 1,600 bottles or more - more than double the maximum amount that can be consumed in the challenge),
to consider how they can provide for the citizens in need by one of the following ways:
- list some for sale in /DRINKPRICE
- give some to the poor and needy
- combo: list some for sale upon conditions (eg. max amount per character, or so that only gamemaster can buy it upon evaluation for those in final need)

Managers stand ready to help you if needed!

Together we are stronger. We will present the Royal Plague-Battle Plan shortly!
1751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Kingdom - 1991 Retro Virtual World(City) on: September 30, 2015, 03:57:29 PM
Plague hits Crypto Kingdom.

Oh no... war in neighboring lands has not directly spread here, but its proceeds nevertheless have:

Special Health Challenge (technically composed of 4 year normal challenges all at once  Roll Eyes - your job is to source the drinks  - admin will drink them for you trying to spare your health).

This was intended to be the starting challenge after migration, allowing to test the drinks market in action, and the consuming, and the health challenge evaluator. Now as people are wanting the API come asap, and the market is not 100% there, and the health challenge spexed but not implemented (and will be postponed to prioritize API), we have the PLAGUE here instead.

Of course it is stupider that player role is reduced to buy the drinks, not to find out the effects what works etc. This is however the only way it can be done now, for technical reasons.

The challenge will be evaluated this weekend and the time before that will be spent on drinks market. There is plenty to drink for everyone, even if everyone drank all the 800 bottles allowed (total drink warehouses are double the amount, and not all need to drink the full amount, also not all have access to enough, sadly).

Since this is a special challenge, the drinks may have unexplained beneficial effects single and in combos. These will be decided as a combination of storytelling and (repeated) random chance, incrementally in the period leading to the evaluation (so that even I don't know the effects or combos until when the time comes). At that point I have the knowledge of what works and diligently consume and buy from the market if needed, the most cost effective ailments, for each character.

No new drinks will be produced by any means during the plague.

To give the flavor of how fun this will be in the future, until NOON, Friday, you can give drinking orders for max 400 bottles yourself, and I will only administer the remaining 400 bottles (if necessary). If you do this, you risk perhaps drinking unoptimal stuff, but get a huge bonus for the effect of the drinks! (I will have to drink the rest of the bottles on your behalf - or all of them if you don't act - to ensure no hazardous mistakes.)

The challenge is severe enough to risk death in the weaker characters. While it is not the intention, nor desire, nor even particularly likely, some characters may indeed die. That has happened in the past and will happen in the future (after this challenge, we are into year 10 of mortal life, we are more than 100 characters, so do the statistics..).

Town and Church have halted sales of MEAD and BEER, respectively. The stocks are plentiful but it's possible that some kind of rationing is needed lest the cheap stocks are bought by speculators and sold at multiples of the price. The Prince Royal is already out of his stocks of wine, so the public pressure for the large holders is on others.

The market information (bids/asks) for drinks is in the new temporary /DRINKPRICE tab.

The tabs /DRINKPRICE and /WINE update during the plague to record new information that the die reveals... Smiley

Thank you for the comments. I have now received the "OK" from Wizard that the migration can be commenced as soon as I wish, and the Ultima features of:
- authentication
- data storage
- status change commands
- admin tools

are ready. There might be irregularities with the exchange matching, so that will continue on automated testing and manual testing for some time, before it can fully be relied upon. In most trade cases there are no multiple actors (eg. selling of lots or unique items or new production with just one seller), the matching works fine, and we have both player- and admin-commands to do it manually (as before) + the global history of transactions may be opened for view to ensure that every irregularity is spotted instantly and can be admin-reversed. We spent a lot of time to make sure this works 100.0% but since that cannot be guaranteed still, this is what we get, same result a little less beautiful Smiley

Promotions in 1607/1608

Announcement of the appointment of HRH Zechariah, The Prince Royal, Marquess of Tavastia,
to the
Heir to the Throne of Crypto Kingdom (L14/Royal)

"(this is not a literal promotion word, but the interpretation: ) King's health has declined, that is why he has finally needed to start thinking about the succession in a serious way. All this talk about health and mortality etc. has been the symptom of something weighing on him. Being nominated Heir to the Throne is a very big thing, and nominating him is also a big thing that closes more doors than it opens.

We did not really have that much of a shortage of the top candidates (the middle class is the thing we are lacking..) but perhaps they were approached and kind-of declined. Often if you are wanted, you don't have time, if you have time, you fall short. The historical issues between the King and the Prince may have gained publicity but after all they are small matters, ready be swept away if real challenges start. The only thing we wonder is that Tavastia's notorious eye for titles and honors (clearly inherited from the father) was so obscenely much satisfied with actual title The Prince Royal, and the coveted promotion to not princely but royal princely rank and the associated level L14 surpassing all the old Dukes and Princes, whose wealth is wider than the eye can see in a sunny day.

The King has previously tried to keep Tavastia (hard to get used to Zechariah, The Prince Royal; he has been known for so long after the pesky county of Tavastia that he somehow has title to, in practicality requiring Estonia to exert its rule to Finland) in check with the royal splendor, refusing to grant royalty, refusing Heir to the Throne, slowing promotions, modest gifts, ... Now it seems that the only things Zechariah was not granted at the same time were the Old Duchy, and perhaps a clearer indication of the "natural" level (not based on being the Heir Apparent), since the much coveted natural princely rank, nor any duchy or principality, was not specifically mentioned.

Rumors say that the King's intention was originally to "suppress" Zech with promoting to a "L12 The Most Serene Prince Zechariah in Crypto Kingdom" leaving the "royal" attribute off and granting level L12, but with the highest feudal title remaining Marquess of Tavastia, and precedence sorting to lowest of L12 (which Tavastia felt he should have been promoted long ago unless anti-nepotism policies had gone over equality). This plan was luckily dismantled but Zechariah still retained the right to use The Most Serene modifying his person, which is a nice addition to the titulary but can seldom be used in connection to HRH (neither of which in the King's opinion fit the person, but will be necessary to ensure the continuity)."

HG The Bishop, Sir David Latapie, Marquess d'Armagnac, has been promoted Prince-Bishop (L12).
"As one of the seniors in the game starting from Earl, d'Armagnac's slow promotion schedule has been a subject of fun (110 years to Marquess and then almost a century and counting...). In reality, noble promotions are based on merit, not so much by character age (as are commoner promotions to a great degree). d'Armagnac has been absent for long periods, and the possibility to be appointed Archbishop (by the Pope) has been blocked by the small size of the Kingdom. With this Prince-Bishop promotion and raise of the level we celebrate the nearly 250 years of David and wish him many more, active ones as well!

Sir kronicblazer, the Earl of Grass, has been promoted Marquess (L11). "Long years of service and active gameplay in the Kingdom, owning of businesses."

Sir binaryFate, the Earl of Naoned, has been promoted Marquess (L11). "Long years of service and active gameplay in the Kingdom, owning of gold."

Master Troy has been ennobled (Baron, L9). "Long years of service and active and balanced gameplay in the Kingdom."

Master Crichton has been ennobled (Baron, L9). "We welcome Lord Crichton to the ranks of the nobles. Considering his young age, we encourage and hope many further achievements!"

Dr. SS, King's Physician has been promoted Doctor (L7). "We start using the long-planned Doctor L7 level to expand the level from mythical wizards to also the best of their professions in academic and artesan levels. Dr. SS has proven his value and will need to do it more in the future."

Chancellor Mooo has been promoted L7. "We had decided that there be a commoner in the Town Council, and Mooo is currently blocking nobility from himself. Since promotion was in order, he will get to decide his title in the rank L7 (Wizard, Doctor, custom)."

Kushed Alot and Angus Greenthumb have shown Mastery (L6).

The ceremonies were held in the Hall of Magnificence, so no THB were given. We intend to have a large honors and badges giving round soon, after some interesting developments.
1754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 30, 2015, 01:33:53 PM
Geez ... WTH happened ?

Seems someone dumped 40k XMR at about 0.0018-0.0016  half day ago. There was not much Buy orders. I guess if there would be he would not do it. But not sure if he will be able to buy it back at lower price.

I am very sure that if we rebound, there is no buying back cheaper. Either the seller was a miner who had accumulated too much and become queasy, or is playing on the descent to a lower price level around 0.001, or just needed money. Short term play it was not.

(I was not there so these are armchair comments), but the trigger sale was not the same as the full amount, some short covering resulted when the price temporarily dropped to the "soft" area below all the near-market bids.

I don't think DASH for instance will go away ever unless it is actually broken (being deficient tech does not count: bank transfers use laughable tech and credit cards are criminally unsecure, Monero has no GUI, ...) or objective scam (I think the current version is scam for sure, but since I think the same of usual banking, it is not the scamness what counts, it's the people's perception of it, and the change of this perception).

Coins that have a longer history of not being broken, should earn more trust and higher price in the markets (via the mechanism of discount rate reduction etc.)

In CK (which has a very small chance of being broken or a scam) I have seen that all the models that calculate asset prices end up in higher prices than the current valuation. The oldtimers have increased in value so much that they don't have motivation to deposit and buy more even at a nice valuation/interest rate (1% per week!). It's like my $half-a-million follow-up investment to BTC at $100 when the original one was at $3. Very few people have guts to do it.

It is a scenario game:

For Zerocash price to trash XMR price, the following must be true simultaneously:

- XMR needs to have a price to be trashed
- Zerocash needs to exist
- The causality of "Zerocash existing ->XMR trashed" needs to be true.

When I calculate this scenario out, the probability is so low and effect so little that it does not stand out from other of the scenarios.

Fluffypony getting a virus and being 2 weeks off work will have a larger effect.

Quote
...chances of being abandoned...

I have been thinking more this matter as well. XMR supporters command a lot of money, and are honest, and intelligent. For such a project to be abandoned, the (see scenario methodology above) following will need to happen:

- the technology must be objectively dysfunctional OR the "project" objectively a scam

In every other case some will leave, some will come, and there will not be any wholesale abandonment of the project, and therefore the price may go up and down, as it has happened already.

I publicly renounce my earlier estimates that "a long term BTC bearmarket will trash the alts which will get destroyed and abandoned". THIS is NOT TRUE Smiley We have seen only shitcoins getting abandoned, none of the quality coins (which has not been proven to be not working, or proven to be a scam) has ever been abandoned, and I don't think it will: if BTC goes up, all the more do these go.

(As a summary of the IRC discussion)

- The year 1991 is quite important. Next year Wolfenstein 3D was launched, and PC games started their slow march to 3D.
- 3D was not in our specification (see OP for details). Even if we do it, it will resemble Wolfenstein 3D, not modern games (unless we want to switch a competitive advantage in niche market to competitive disadvantage in capital intensive mass market  Roll Eyes ).

=> I urge everyone who want to see nice graphics and no economic model to switch to Second Life now. It is a great game and in all likelihood will stay larger than us.

Our resources scale with the number of players but devcosts are perhaps players^0.3. Therefore it may be that once we gain players, it is an insignificant cost to develop some viewing tools that allow a better rendition of the world. But we only spend money that we have earned for doing it - it is not an attempt of investment to gain more money.

A carriage should not compete with automobile in speed but in nobility.

These should happen in concurrent development by a second developer perhaps
  •    Chapelry view new layer "bird's eye" shows the "satellite" image of the area (else only the 3 different block image layers are available)
  •    Chapelry view new layer "dissect" shows the view at the chosen elevation (3D building db is needed here)
  •    3D first-person street view
  •    3D bird's eye view

These are not so much about the developer but about the data.

Chapelry view new layer "bird's eye" <-- less than 1 day of work to add a new layer where 3 exist already; but someone needs to know the location of all buildings (this is like the /DET view)

Chapelry view new layer "dissect" <-- again the viewing tool is not many hours, creating the 3D database for urban voxels (chapelry being 150x100x100 instead of 150x100 in 2D) and implementing the existing buildings there is the chore

3D first-person street view
3D bird's eye view
<-- same applies

I see that these could be given to another guy because they are viewing tools and not interrelated to core mechanics. But I also know they are Wizard's strong point, so we would be giving some of that away. The main issue is definitely that 10-100 x more time is needed for the generation of the data to a format which did not exist, by people who alone possess the data, sometimes in their minds. If entering coordinates for all lots (4 "new" values generated per lot) seemed like a big effort, how about building all the voxels existing in the buildings (~1000 per building)?  Undecided

Anyway - Do you have the developer in mind already?

Automated deposit/withdrawals first
(new players unfamiliar with BCT or trusted admin might be leery of depositing money into the game if there are delays in deposits and withdrawals reported via social media)

This is a thing that will not be done by the Wizard, so delaying it is only a question of having the project management ready. Possibly the OtherTeam has some code that could be redeemed (this is the area where I trust their superiority the most).

Although, your reasoning fails:
- Bank people are used to delays in deposits/withdrawals/trust, so cannot expect instant action.
- Crypto people should know how the thing work, they are also in BCT and have seen the flawless history over the year
- Only new generation crypto people who have learnt to never trust in anything ... such people do not exist.

I see this about solely as a status tool "look how nice backend we have" for the game in the cryptosphere, a little about convenience for the players "I want to buy that but shit I have no money at hand" but almost not at all for the trust (psychologically it feels more trustworthy to have human processing  Cheesy ).

Also the money is not "deposited with the game" it is "held in trust" by the treasurer and if SHTF, only that treasurer's money is gone. MtGox not happening again here, please. This adds to the complexity of developing an automated deposit/withdraw model, and gives the players a misleading impression that their money is deposited to the game, which it expressly is not.

This is an interesting conversation topic, a bit slow to understand but (imo) one area where we need to make things right if we want to present a better alternative to the banking system. If we cut the same corners as they do, we also become fraudulent as they are.

Vote on the prioritisation of modules

Progress is happening in many fronts. After we migrate, progress will happen in 1 front at a time however. We decided with the Wizard that the ultra-small 2-man design&development team can most efficiently work by modularising the developments, and then concentrating on one at a time, subcontracting some, and making others subgame-like joint projects (everyone already knows that most subgames are 3rd party developments that access the game via API and other methods).

The project to get the game core in order started 2 months ago and 3 months are ahead. I want to emphasize that the team is me who is not coding, and one committed part-time Wizard. And the productivity is so high that there are no plans to add more people to either design or development core team, rather define the interfaces how others can make content in the game. Also marketing and administration side require manpower soon.

But as for the vote, the following modules have been proposed and they are largely independent of each other, so that they can be implemented in any order. The modules are only for the game features, they are not the larger project goals (marketing etc).

We are talking about the situation after migration, so the starting point is that the game status is in Ultima DB, the access is via authentication, and Ultima is used for initialising the transactions. List them in order with the first being most urgent, and feel free to leave out stuff that is not in the top of the stack. If you add new modules, don't list very small things, they will be developed/fixed in parallel anyway:

Agora Marketplace - Matching Exchange System for Items & Lots  (if we assume that otherwise the full-fledged matching is not active, and trades can be done directly via commands)

Duty Paid - Shop for every possible item to be created from IC  (otherwise the creation will happen via admin commands upon char request, with most items just not being created except by admins themselves)

Graphical Building Designer - Build with Voxels, costs and data are entered automatically (otherwise the building will be designed in spreadsheet and translated to a DB entry and imported with a command)

Building View - View and Edit Building Data (otherwise the /BLDG tab will stay in GoogleDB even if the rest migrates, because of usability)

Halls of Fame - See the Best Performers in Multiple Challenges (otherwise such listings are not visible, cf. /CHAR tab)

Health Challenge - To make individual drinking/health choices possible  (otherwise drinking will be some script with very little control by the char, as it has been now)

Game Event History / Transaction History - Handy view to see what has happened in your account  (compared to no such possibility)

More Realistic Building Payout Script w/choices (otherwise the scripts stays exploitable, and you have no choices over the use of your buildings)

Business - Building - NPC interaction (this needs to be enabled to get back the economic subgames that were in use in 1550-1599 <- note in our history of almost a year, they were in use for 1.5 months only  Roll Eyes )

API (includes all tools for programmers to make stuff that interacts with the game)

New Player Registration + Tutorial (else there is none, meaning no new players!)

Automated deposits/withdrawals  (if not, current system will continue with manual communication and entries)

Logistics script to calculate traffic and desirability of lots (a great addition to value the rentals based on "actual" traffic flows determined by where people live and walk and desire to eat)

RESTA subgame and making eating and drinking happen in there (a business with actual perishable foods, location and marketing matters)

Countryside with Counties, Duchies, new Towns, Roads

Foreign trade and inter-town trade subgame (getting rid of IC happens here probably and m will reign)

Other "core" economic subgames

Chapelry view new layer "bird's eye" shows the "satellite" image of the area (else only the 3 different block image layers are available)

Chapelry view new layer "dissect" shows the view at the chosen elevation (3D building db is needed here)

3D first-person street view

I will be lecturing about investing to the junior college students in a few weeks. The course is all about investing (and maybe some entrepreneurship). Other guest lecturers are from banks.

I had thought to start the slideshow from a mock-up of a generic bank presentation, with title "diversification" and then 2 classes: stocks and bonds. Then the next slides would zoom this out so that eventually the listeners would realize that what was presented to them as the extent of diversification by the banks, would fit in a tiny corner of mainly-correlated instruments with mainly the same risk profile and total loss profile.

Sounds interesting. Please see if your presentation can be recorded and uploaded to the internet.

Considering it's in Finnish I think I'll pass  Cheesy The concepts have been elaborated in my writings here already.
