Whales are accumulating and holding the price down....

Seriously though once ZeroCash is released Monero will most likely be abandoned. Most of the Monero dev's are part time volunteers and have other projects they can roll onto.

Zero Cash will most likely beat Monero to a GUI as well.

IMO Monero was way over priced for something that takes command lines to work, no official GUI, blockchain bloat problems and hardly any infrastructure in place.

At least it has some casinos accepting it. Not to criticize, but really the casino industry is the main engine behind all cryptocurrencies.

Monero has GUIs today!
https://getmonero.org/getting-started/choose

I don't think an "official" GUI alone means as much as you think. Boolberry for example has had an official GUI for a long time and still has a market cap much smaller than Monero. Monero has a large community and many contributing developers (likely many more than the ZeroCash group has).

Bloat issues can be dealt with in CryptoNote, with Boolberry being proof
http://www.slideshare.net/boolberry/boolberry-reduces-blockchain-bloat

Monero blockchain size is not a problem yet for people with a modern computer. Before it becomes a problem the monero development team will implement a solution of their own.

There is absolutely no reason to think Monero would ever be abandoned. The recent donations to fund more developers proves this

C'mon man, thats not the monero way!

This is the monero way! >>> https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/2392/privately-donate-to-privacy-oriented-services

Great idea, particularly the part about helping them get set up. Not every merchant and charity is tech savvy enough to do so on their own. I hope this idea gets funding (xmr and pledges for technical help) soon.

https://twitter.com/XMRpromotions/status/648353833769238528

Some examples of privacy oriented services/projects and their donate pages:

    https://www.torproject.org/donate/donate-options.html.en
    https://www.torservers.net/donate.html
    https://geti2p.net/en/get-involved/donate
    https://protonmail.ch/donate
    https://tutanota.com/community#donate
    https://tails.boum.org/contribute/how/donate/index.en.html
    https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Donate
    https://www.guerrillamail.com/
    http://sigaintevyh2rzvw.onion/faq.html

So if someone is using them, and would like to and is able to support them, maybe it would be worth telling them about xmr support.

I will send at least one message to everyone on the above list this week. Who else is willing to to the same?

Count me in.

Same.

Okay I contacted them! For those that are on Twitter you can see my tweets here:
https://twitter.com/XMRpromotions/with_replies

Some of them I have already talked to by direct message with mixed responses. Others I contacted by email. Be sure to let them know that we have people who can help them set up the donation interface if they just ask!

getI2P should be an easy sell since we plan to use I2P
Tutanota showed some interest in the past

Contact all of the above plus any more you can think of! Donation acceptance should be an easy sell to privacy focused organizations!

https://twitter.com/Puri_sm (privacy focused laptops) is also interested in accepting bbr and xmr (bbr shared the lead with us) payments. They said to contact https://twitter.com/crowd_supply who handles their btc payments for them now

You realise that you're shooting yourself in the foot in regards to labour spent and success just as long as you're contacting everyone with XMRPromotions as your handle.... right? In fact, I'd probably hazard a guess that the labour injected is actually generating more auto-toxic results than positive ones.

So I'm walking along the street and a guy comes up to me and he's wearing a lime green cap, and a lime green T-shirt with white lettering, and lime green shorts, and he's handing out lime green flyers, and he's smiling and he says "Excuse me sir have you...." - -

"NOOO." I would say. "Sorry I'm in a rush I've got an appointment with a dentist who's just died and he's on fire and I... sorry... bye."

He could have just been asking for the time for all I care, but it's "NOOOOooo sorryyyyy bbye bye".

Now consider, a man with a NORMAL haircut, wearing NORMAL clothes, and for all intents looking NORMAL, with a NORMAL attitude and everything about this guy is just NORMAL..... and he comes up to me and he's like "Hey do you have the time?"

"Yes." I would say, "It's 2:15."

"Thankyou o wise one." he might retort.

"Anytime o inquisitive one. My pleasure indeed." I might add. etc etc etc etc

The moral of the story is: Why are you dressed up in a lime green T-shirt?

Just take it off man, seriously, you'd have more results. This isn't some cunting multinational corporation that despatches students to stand on street corners handing out advertisments.

It's a waste of labour relative to success. Just take out the crap and you're good to go.

Good post rangedriver! I agree.

But I would also like to commend "xmrpromotion's" effort very much. He's doing a good job! And best of all, he takes the community critique/suggestions seriously, and improves his approach when suggestions are given. Many more people should do like that.

Hey xmrpromotions..? Yes, you! You are doing a fine job, keep improving, keep up the effort. The more effort that is done, the more it inspires others to do more too.

If it ever gets released. Over a year now and still nothing?

Focus is on "Blok Saiz Dehbait".

Here is what zerocash is:

Quote
How will Zerocash be released and deployed?

We do not plan to deploy Zerocash in Bitcoin but, rather, we plan to release an altcoin that uses the Zerocash protocol. At present, we are working on finishing a first release of the client software, based on the Bitcoin 0.9.1 codebase. (There is a big difference between research software, and a clean implementation that is working and usable!) Ultimately, we hope to achieve a production-quality client that can be used to create a real privacy-preserving currency.

Monero exists....

Zerocash does not.

Pretty cut and dry as of right now. We can go back and forth with the "what ifs" and "when zerocash comes out" scenarios...but it isn't here so what's the point in talking about it??

The same mentality that fools people into believing the investment promise over the investment reality is the same one that allows a moderately attractive forty something to be catfished by a con artist pretending to be a multimillionaire-model-CEO who spends his weekends in the Sudan rescuing puppies. People in general are pretty smart, but we (at least most of us) have a tendency to accept stupid ideas with little to no correlation to objective reality because we are caught in the undertow of an emotionally-derived belief.

To all Monero dumpers:

I don't get why you do it, but if you really need to unload a lot of coins onto the market, please don't dump them in large chunks, but use this "autosell-bot" instead. This will probably give you a better average price and it won't hurt the confidence in the currency.
It's easy to set up (I included a manual) and you even have some parameters you can change:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dknuob4n6k7apof/AADnpnwjsSxVN78_S5PgaizTa?dl=0

If you have any questions on how to set it up, please don't hesistate to contact me!

A large dump as just occurred IS DESIGNED to bring the price down. Anyone with that many shares of something knows how to get out of their position.
Looks like it was 40,000 shares or so.

I would remember this day (if it was the "big" dump) and see what happens over the next few weeks (even months).
Then you might have an idea who was behind the dump.  Wink

BTC = Black Swan.
BTC = Antifragile - "Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure, risk, and uncertainty. Robust is not the opposite of fragile.

The point in talking about it (and especially in a speculation thread) is that pretty much everything is still speculation when it comes to the price. There's no real world adoption or use yet. People are trying to price in future prospects and events before they actually happen.

Geez ... WTH happened w XMR?  I've been focusing on getting my personal shit together - so only have a few K and follow more out of interest.

But wow guys.
Could be as simple as a one or a few people dumping hard and triggering some margin calls. Perhaps someone got nervous for Monero's future in relation to the upcoming zerocash release.

Personally I'm invested pretty hard in Monero, but will be looking to pick up more if we're getting closer to 0.001 range. Last time we had a big crash down to these prices we also had a rally soon after.

Decent amounts up for grab on ask side

Sorry for my laziness ... is ZeroCash actually doing something?  Maybe I need to pay more attention.

Ah - early next year.  Just did a little reading.  Guess time will tell.  If it was purely ZeroCash I would expect Darkcoin to get hit too.
