I agree but he claimed the artwork wasn't ready yet to print at that time, so that's why those were stored until later which makes a bit of sense actually since the history series he would just print, shread and then spend day's sticking holos etc..

yes ok then shred once done - again no need to save once project is done.
1782  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [IDEA] Removing trust from physical coin makers re: Priv Key generation on: January 15, 2023, 04:03:00 AM
The truth is, DIY coins are not as appealing as maker funded coins. Most collectors like to collect due to the potential upside in value of the pieces. DIY coins don't trade well since you have to trust the buyer who generated the private key instead of just the maker of the coin.

Yogg destroyed a coldkey collection worth over a million dollars for the $15k he has stolen so far. I suspect there will be more cases like this especially since a lot of new makers are entering the space and the price of BTC will rise

I'm happy to see smoothie taking initiative in finding a solution and I hope a solution that involves 2 trusted makers to work together can happen. Maybe smoothie and Kialara can work together and do what Ballet have done:

"To improve the security of Ballet Wallet private keys, the keys are encrypted – the key is generated and printed in China, while the required passphrase is generated and printed in the USA."

here is the deal with that - many of the coins are not actually "funded" by the maker. The maker has the buyer send funds to an address prior to shipment and then calls these "maker funded" and then they sell "buyer funded" where the buyer funds it when the receive it. There is no difference between these two scenarios - the buyer in both cases is directly funding the coin/collectible.

I do understand that not everyone wants to do their own keys though - so having a more secure way is a great idea.

Makers need to stop saving/keeping copies of the keys - use a system that puts the keys in RAM so when the machine is shut off the keys are gone - I have heard from some that do this.

Me personally, I dont save the fiile that comes out of the generator - I run the program copy the keys to a QR generator, copy that to a document and then print it - once done I close the document without saving, I close the programs without saving - essentially whatever I printed is all there is. I do typically do 2-3 of each address/key pair for in the situation I fuck up a holo. once the project is done, all remaining keys (good and peeled ones) are cross shredded and then burned. My system is airgapped - the wifi and bluetooth modules removed. I use disposable usb drives (made from paper) to update the laptop periodically - these are also cross shredded and burned after use and never ever go back to the online system. I also periodically replace the hard drive, drill it and burn it.

is there a chance that one time I could keep a key or two - sure.  But my face is known by many here - my name is known and my address is known.

There is not enough money in the world that would entice me - doing so would make me a marked man - I have too many kids and grandkids to go on the run lol

But I do get that this fear can still be there for some people. and a split key process or BIP38 or 2FA - something else would make it more secure.

It also makes the process longer and harder. Is it worth it?  and does it remove all the need to have trust?  hard to say...
1783  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [IDEA] Removing trust from physical coin makers re: Priv Key generation on: January 15, 2023, 03:51:33 AM
for bip38 and with having 2 entities involved with applying first the PK and then the pw - you would probably need two people somewhat close so as to not be paying a fortune to ship coins back and forth and without risk to losing them in the process.

there is the split key method https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Split-key_vanity_address

I apologize but someone here was working on it and at this time and moment, I cannot recall who it was.

another option is always offer DIY
1784  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My Cold Keys Just Got Swiped! All Halving Sets!! on: January 15, 2023, 03:43:19 AM

I read this and only one truth I can see in what he said....

Since my name came up in that convo

The halving cards were my idea to have two cards and together make one image.

And yes idea was to have them all loaded on the first block of the halving. So that part is the only truth.

my whole problem with his explanation about keeping keys to fund them with the first block - you dont need pk's to do funding , addresses can do that.

so wtf have copies? and then after they were funded why then not destroy the keys?Huh then he said oh I found the gold keys too...
1785  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How long should I wait on a seller to respond? on: January 15, 2023, 03:27:40 AM
did they provide tracking?

I dont think there should be a question in asking whats up if you have paid and had no response.
1786  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Evasion for Alamjob239/Bla2kja2k/acemax/RainbowSky on: January 14, 2023, 01:33:21 PM
No - i am saying he has been banned on numerous other accounts. He is now back on the alamjob account which is ban evasion - thst should be grounds to get this account banned as well.

...

thanks for looking thru the times - I didnt get a chance to do that.

I do know there were others even further apart - chibitcty had his swept at approx 630ish last night - hours after the explanation was even given. and hours after yogg stated that all the cards would be now safe.
1788  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [RANT] Can we stop with the coins / wallets / collectables with private keys on: January 14, 2023, 05:07:51 AM
another simply solution - as a creator, dont fucking save keys - ever.

I doubt this will eliminate private keys on collectibles - that is part of the allure to the collectibles - but maybe always at least offer it as a DIY.

The ones that get me are the "funded" and "buyer funded" - in where the buyer directly funds the item in both cases yet only one is called "buyer funded"

I do make keys - and a lot of them for people here and elsewhere - but I always try to teach them or at least tell them they should make their own.

There are steps and processes to insure that as a creator you never expose keys to theft or use. Never save them, never leave them laying around, never keep them...

I think there will just always need to be a DIY option.

that said, I do like the opendime use except my fear with those is they get broke or fried - then you're fucked.

Didn't someone who looks a lot like you have a partner do something really stupid with an address generator app?
I'm just saying eliminating one potential pitfall would not be bad.

And, as I started with, it's not an attack on you or any other coin maker.

It's just when you have a thread like the list of scam / breached coin makers that goes on for pages https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3315347.0 we really should come up with a better method.

-Dave

no need to be a smart ass - they didnt look like me - it was me - I had a partner and yes he was responsible for making keys for his customers - he made some for me, however he did not use the system we set up, he went with an online key generator. he is no longer my partner.

It was not an "app" it was a website - one he had been told not to use.

He never made keys for anyone on here other than me.

for every project I have done or key I have done for here on the forums, I made the keys - no one has access to them.

these two situations are not the same.

also has nothing to do with using a hardware wallet - many of which have been proven to be just as faulty.

so what pitfall are you saying to eliminate? me? fine. I will not be part of this. Doesn't bother me but I wont have someone accusing me of a being a risk because I wont use a HW wallet - like you are.
1789  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My Cold Keys Just Got Swiped! All Halving Sets!! on: January 14, 2023, 04:34:36 AM
The one I use is the only one I found that does what I want it to without collecting personal info…

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bitcoin-address-tracker/id1465853490

Anyone know or have a link to an android app that can do this easily/safely? I recall searching for a long time once on google play, but they all sucked dicks at the time and basically worthless lol.. thanks!

btc tracker i think - it was posted in the other thread, that is when i found the one yoda linked above as I have an iPhone - I missed his link until about an hour ago lol
1790  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ⏩⏩[AUCTION LIST] ColdKey charity auction for victims of the apparent theft⏪⏪ on: January 14, 2023, 03:54:41 AM

Yes I know it's 2 of 3 multisig, can you also please agree to use hardware wallets. You have all been trusted with a lot more funds then this will probably get to, but it's more the point now just to show that extra caution is good, you can never be too paranoid, whatever. This on top of the lukejr hack just gives BTC and this forum a bad look at the moment.

-Dave

I never use hardware wallets - would not even know how to start with using one.

I have quite a few of em in my collection though Smiley

I use core - does that count? This is to show that one person cannot up and run with the funds - provide a bit more peace of mind. There is not enough money in existence to make me take it. My face is known, my name is known, my address is known and quite frankly I am simply not built that way.

Don't want to take this too far OT, but it's not about trusting you. It's about avoiding vulnerabilities. We are all human, we all can get tired, make mistakes, or just not pay attention and screw up. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432665.0;all Putting aside all the conspiracy theories luke who has been a BTC developer for years who knew better still managed to mess up and loose a fortune.

That is the point of HW wallets. AND, this is just my view, if you use them and talk about them other people might use them and then some people who DID make a mistake / did something stupid will not loose their BTC since even though someone got access to their BTC wallet they could not do anything with it without the hardware wallet to sign the transaction.

-Dave

to me hw wallets have a higher chance of failure than myself Smiley and wasn't lukes on an exchange or something? that was the first issue in my opinion.

but agreed not wanting to derail.

if it must be with a hardware wallet, I use bitcoin core - that's as close to hardware wallet I will ever get (outside of like a ballet hot wallet - but I would not use that for this) If that does not work for the community, then I will step aside and let minerjones work with another person. It does not offend me in the least.

No worries and thank you - you were just waiting for btc to go up lol i just hope it dont tank before I pay ballet lol

actually sent it yesterday. posted today, next time I'll procrastinate more.  Grin
geo

lol thats ok at the time it processed it was only worth 67.47 but now its worth 77.83 Smiley

point is the price dips/rises often - usually it all balances out.

I think only once was I really down on funds for a group buy due to price swings enough where I had to ask involved parties to pay more.

I offer to volunteer but would also suggest minerjones

If it needs to be it could be done as a multisig wallet with 3 key holders requiring that at least 2 agree to send the funds - this way no 1 person can walk away with it

Okay the 3 key holders sounds better.

Can you organize this?

Yes - will get with MJ tomorrow to confirm and we will provide an address at that time
