The difference is, "DAPI" will be a active and blockchain.info API is passive.

DAPI supports a realtime consensus of multiple network nodes in response to the request. blockchain.info API is simply a single node relaying back the last mining consensus.

It might be under-rated as a "pump & dump" coin actually. There seems to be something more sophisticated going on.

Although smoothie is in general a likeable contributor and not one I’d bracket with the more toxic variety, all the same his posts do serve as a great indicator of Dash bullishness. (In fact the same goes for the rest of them assuming they aren't all the same person   )

No it's not. It's an example of a distinction with a difference.

The implication usually made by use of the term "locked in masternodes" is that the Dash blockchain is somehow less liquid than other blockchains and so distorts the real market value by restricting supply to markets. In fact it's precisely the other way around.

Dash is working on making its blockchain MORE liquid than any other coin by making it far more accessible, easy to use, faster and more attractive to use than has been known hitherto in the cryptocurrency space.

If coins are held, they're held for exactly the same reason as in most other blockchains - economic. The market price therefore correctly reflects the market value of holding versus selling and the fact that holders are incentivised to lend to the network for a return makes it no less so. In fact it only consolidates the token's identity as a base monetary asset which is valued by lending markets. It's no different from lending to Poloniex for their liquidity stock except that the Dash token comes with an inherent base rate of interest attached that holders can enjoy before they even start looking for 3rd parties to lend to.

So by saying that masternodes not holding coins is a "distinction without a difference" you're conflating two unrelated concepts. The distinction is an economically limited supply vs a mechanically restricted one and the difference is investment in a profitable asset  vs investment in one who's price is market pegged.

There are, however, examples of where blockchain liquidity IS used to manage the price. Your remark more appropriately applies to those...

None of the supply is "locked in masternodes".

Masternodes do not hold coins.

Why is holding Dash increasingly profitable with rising Bitcoin price and why are the fortunes of Bitcoin & Dash favourably coupled ?

The answers are easy to find if we look past the trainspotter horizon:

 • Dash is designed according to the priorities of monetary asset, not a valueless payment rail

 • Monetary assets that "work" as such attract interest on lending

 • As bitcoin gains on the $Dollar and Dash holds or gains against BTC, the variable revenue from lending measured in $USD increasingly outweighs the fixed cost of participating in the lending markets (who's base rate is set natively by the Dash network)

 • Dash can do this because its nodes are uniquely capable of supporting a realtime network consensus as well as a mining one like other crypto

 • As a risk-asset, Dash's value is supported by the fact that it's a bitcoin compatible technology and therefore has a transparent chain, compliant commercial layer protocols and adoption friendly partnering strategies

 • As a privacy coin, it implements the optimal transparent anonymity approach consistent with a bearer token asset which places authenticity as a priority, as opposed to blockchain obfuscation which is consistent with valueless payment rails
