181  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Nabiktima ka na ba ng salitang HOLD!?? on: March 04, 2019, 06:51:44 AM
Once in our life we have been a follower of some big guys that saying us to HODL!

For example Last December 2017, Mcafee was pimping BTC will reach 40K usd by Feb 2018 many people jump in the train and HODL their cryptocurrency only to know they ride on a sinking ship.

Everyone knows you shouldn't be jumping on the train once there's already a hype. If you choose to buy or invest by December 2017, you're obviously too late. That's the mistake of many. Back when bitcoin suddenly became famous due to its massive price increase, many hopped on with the hopes of profiting. To their dismay, the price of bitcoin continued to fall after it reached its peak last December. But for those who were early in the game and hodled way before 2017, I'm sure they profited handsomely -- even tenfold of their initial investment.

HOLDING isn't a scam. Some people just hodled at the wrong time.
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: The decline has slowed down, the bears are still dominant on: March 04, 2019, 05:20:32 AM
The next major move that can break the resistance is subject to a major fundamental announcement else the price will continue to range within $3700+ having been in that range for long until the recent rumoured ETF  approval leaked out before the price rally upward I believe the same scenario will repeat itself in an upcoming positive announcement.
There are plenty of reasons for bitcoin price to test again $4200 levels again but I still could not figure out why it suddenly fell down on last Sunday up to $3800 levels in less than 5 hours of trading. But, the good news is the range of bitcoin's movement has improved a bit. The next range would be up to $4700 levels and then bitcoin may stay above $4000 levels afterward.

I assume bears have lost their dominance and at the same time bulls not yet gaining the full strength. It is usually take more time for bulls to get into action in full pledged. But, we can be relaxed in mean time as bears are getting out of scenes slowly.

It's quite possible that the market had a correction so it fell to $3800 again. Even while it's no longer bearish as before, we may not be entering a bull stage as early as now. It may be a while before we break throung $4700 and experience steady levels above $4K. There's still some resistance as we can see that the price still falls. I just bet that many are happy with how the price levels are right now as they are anticipating for a bull run soon. Even without an upcoming positive announcement, we can expect a difference in the price trend now.
183  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Vs Lotto on: March 03, 2019, 11:56:23 PM
Investments are surely different from the lottery, I don't think that they're comparable. When you buy a lottery ticket, there's only a 0.1324...% chance for you to win, but when you invest it's guaranteed that you make a gain.. or a loss. The only question is which of the two. There's a chance for you to lose in both but what I'm saying is it's more likely for you to lose in the lottery. If you were to compute the probability of winning the lotto, you won't even have 1%. And even if you try all the combinations possible in the lottery, the winnings won't even compensate for the amount you spend for every ticket.

I suggest to invest in other things, not only crypto. You should diversify your portfolio.
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: facebook creates his own crypto on: March 03, 2019, 11:55:15 PM
Nevertheless their coin will benefit from a lot of eyeballs, but it is going to be a stable coin and probably kind of centralized so not really worrying about a bitcoin competitor. Still kind of nice to see big companies starting to get into cryptocurrencies. Means that sooner or later we will see a lot of funds pumping bitcoin to the pleiades.
If this coin will become a stable there's no reason for investors to buy it and people to use it because this will just cost transaction fee from fiat conversion and another transaction fee from crypto to service. you're right no need to worry about bitcoin if ever it touches the market ground.

It's going to be a stable coin for sure but there will be some reason for investors to invest in it. I'm sure it would have some features that Bitcoin do not which will surely drive those investors to them. I don't see a threat in here. In fact, it's another good news for Bitcoin to get known. It's ironic how they banned cryptocurrency in the past but now they are making one.

What makes you say that it's going to be a stable coin for sure Huh Just because it's affiliated with Facebook, it doesn't mean that its success is guaranteed. Sure, more investors may be interested in it due to the popularity of facebook but this does not mean that the coin itself will be stable. I have to agree with the irony, its funny that facebook was so against with crypto before, and then they decide to create a coin now. People can change sides so easily when it benefits them.
185  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Taxes and mining on: March 03, 2019, 11:52:54 PM
As everyone in this thread said, the most important factor is the coutnry you live in. Some countries have already created laws regarding cryptocurrencies and are applying them while others have not even started that process.
Ain't know if that is right mate, taxes are actually an advantage in establishing a business. After a year or two, those taxes you have paid from the government agencies will be back to you with a lot of exciting benefits you can actually avail with their programs. Also, if you have very small scaled mining, microbusinesses are allowed not to have taxes but if your business is about 20,000 above in capital total, you will be required to register your business as well and pay your taxes.

Bitcoin mining is not yet an established profitable platform today so you can actually stop minding about the taxes and operate the system.
This again depends on your country. Belive me, if you would open a business in my country after a year or two you will probably have more disadvantages when we talk about the government and its laws because right now they are all greedy and vicious. There are some countries who supports people to open new businesses but i think there are also countries who all they want is to take advantage of business holders.

There are some cases where the government takes advantages of new businesses. While they make regulations, they are able to generate income by imposing taxes. It may be a win-win type of situation where businesses will benefit from the protection they get but most of the time they are exploited by these corrupt politicians. What's even sad is its hard for small business enterprises to put up a business without being given the opportunity to avail of loans or govt subsidies because of their small capacity. They then resolve to loan sharks where interest rates are ridiculously high. The government should consider even the small business owners.
186  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do most of You Traders just use a Laptop for trading with??? ? on: February 28, 2019, 08:25:05 AM
I am thinking to buy a new computer. Fun. Wondering what you guys use?

Any special computer or just any ol' machine will do?! Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Do you have a VPN or a personal Hotspot?

What Virus Protection do you use?  How about... Mac Afee?

Mac or a DELL?Huh Cool Cool
There is no computer that is special and most importantly that you are comfortable using it, besides that you also have to be able to make sure the computer you are using is at a good level of security. Do not let the computer infected by the virus because it can make transactions that you do are not safe. Trading is a job that requires good security, if not then the assets you have lost will be stolen.

Actually there ARE special computer from different purposes such as a gaming laptop or a work laptop (IMO a Macbook or pro may be considered as a good work laptop) but when it comes to trading, I think that any laptop or desktop would do so long as it has a good screen and battery life. Don't use one that lags easily or crashes because you'll surely get frustrated or may even lose your information. Security really is important and if you know how to use a VPN, that would be preferable since the information becomes encrypted.
187  Economy / Economics / Re: Will people come back to gold on: February 28, 2019, 08:13:21 AM
Gold has been a good stock to invest in from the very beginning, but I don’t think anyone of us here is ready to leave Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies to go for gold.

I don’t have even a single interest in gold, cause Bitcoin has always been my favorite every since I started what we call investment. I know a lot of people that invests in gold and they try to convince me that gold is better, but I think everyone has their own choice.

Gold practically has no use except for to accessorize. IMO, gold is not such a good investment unlike many believe it to be. Back when there were not much to invest in, gold was probably one of the few options to choose from. Plus considering the fact that it was used as a medium for exchange, people must have saved up on it because of it's increasing value. But I bet it had increasing value then because of its use, but now since it's not used as much nor is it as rare to find, it may not make much of a good investment nor will it's value increase as significantly as before.
188  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What do you actually spend your cryptocurrency on? on: February 28, 2019, 07:05:01 AM
If you're in Europe, I can wholeheartedly recommend using Bitcoin on any of the takeaway.com websites.
For those of you who haven't heard about this service, they do food deliveries in many different European countries.

I literally spend some of my Bitcoins there on a weekly basis and they've been accepting Bitcoin for years now.

Here's a current order that I'm making at Domino's Tongue

It's in Dutch, but you get the gist...

That's cool. In my country, there's no service yet such as yours where you can purchase and have food delivered thru the payment of BTC but we have a local wallet provider which allows you to pay your shopping online with BTC.

Basically you pay the third party online payment service with your wallet and your BTC is automatically converted into fiat upon payment but it's pretty convenient. They provide a bunch of other services so you can pay your bills online, buy load for your network, or transfer directly to your bank account (but in fiat of course). I find it really convenient and many people from my country use this platform, even for those who don't own BTC or any crypto.
189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are some unique advantages of online gambling ? on: February 28, 2019, 06:46:10 AM
I will start with one to begin the discussion. If you are putting huge amounts at stake and want to keep identity private, online gamblign comes as a boon.
As part of the advantage given by some of the forum members here I will add that online casino or gambling doesn't require you to travel far before you play gambling and it keeps all your transaction private. This is so because, if it is located in one place and people around you found out whether you are into gambling.

Online gambling has many advantages and due to the fact that we don't need to travel far from home is one of the best advantage given by online gambling. Some people don't want to reveal their habit to people around them which can be achieved through online gambling.
Exactly, that's why I'm loving it.
I am a bit busy with my work but since I can gamble at my computer, that makes my work life more wonderful.
The online gambling will grow and crypto will help that, to compare my experience with fiat gambling and crypto gambling, I will choose crypto
as it's more fun and easy to transact, being anonymous is one of the best feature in crypto gambling.

Yes, well, I guess it's the convenience which makes online gambling better than gambling in actual casinos. You won't even have to dress up since you're playing in the comfort of your own home. Also, you won't have to deal with mingling with other players unlike when you're at an actual casino where numerous people may bother you (this is especially convenient for introverts who like to gamble but don't like having to deal with strangers). You can save more by gambling online because you won't have to spend on transportation or gas, or spend on other unwanted/unexpected expenses such as food or drinks.
190  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-02-27]Bitcoin to End 2019 Above $3,900, no Need for ETF on: February 28, 2019, 06:33:10 AM
Can we just stop having this kind of 'news'? I seriously don't care and don't understand why some baseless assumption from people can be a news article. Would rather read meta drama than news like this. People who throw around prediction with such conviction most of the time end up in the wrong place, without any shame though.

It goes to show how some news sites have nothing better to feature anymore or are just desperate for the views by twisting the headlines. People like to hype over simple news such as these. Even when there's hardly any bearing, people like to assume that predictions such as these would make a difference. Or its possible that people are trying to create a hype even with nonsensical and baseless news such as this to somehow affect the price. People would grasp on to any positive news with the hope that it will generate enough positivism to allegedly have some effect on the price. But personally, I don't think that news like this should be news at all.
191  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the effect of adding a bitcoin currency symbol to iOS? on: February 28, 2019, 03:13:13 AM
The addition of a bitcoin currency symbol clearly shows that Google does not turn a blind eye to the crypto world.
https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-currency-symbol-google/

Google has a significant effect on the cryptocurrency market.
Time will tell what the cascading effect of adding the bitcoin symbol is to the minds of everyday iOS users.
What do you get from adding a bitcoin currency symbol to iOS?
Google knows everything so don't get shocked when it knows where do you live. lol

What's the deal of having a symbol of Bitcoin in iOS?
It just tells that Bitcoin is having a worldwide adaptation and apple didn't turn a blind eye to the crypto world too.
Since cryptocurrency is on the trend even in movies it is mentioned too, I bet most actors and directors are acquiring cryptocurrency for themselves for investment.

I don't think that having the Bitcoin symbol in iOS would signify that there is worldwide adaptation, but instead that people know about it enough for Apple to add it. Honestly, there's a lot of symbols that people hardly ever use on a daily basis but I think that having a bitcoin symbol would allow crypto users who are apple product users as well to utilize it or just simply have fun with it. Perhaps the recent hype over it last 2017 has contributed to this.
192  Economy / Economics / Re: Emaar Properties says no to accepting cryptocurrencies as payment on: February 27, 2019, 06:36:55 AM
I really dont get it why people keep complaining about this companies who dont accept cyptocurrecies. Why would they accept cryptocurrencies when they know less than 1% of their clients will use them to pay? There is no point in wasting their time with accepting bitcoin because the demand is not that high for them. When people are going to go to a company and ask them if they accept bitcoin, then they are probably going to accept it because they see people actually want to use it but dont have where to do that. But right now dont expect companies,at leass the small ones to accept bitcoin just because they think its cool.

Everyone's excited for when the time will come that cryptocurrency becomes widely accepted by all companies. We really can't expect for many merchant vendors to accept bitcoin all of a sudden. They have to consider first how adding crypto as a payment method may either benefit or harm them. Also, not many people use bitcoin/crypto for spending. Most crypto users either use them for trading or for hodling, but not for spending. Only a number probably do so.
193  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: So I played again recently, i noticed something.. on: February 26, 2019, 11:57:35 AM
Carnivals have some of the most rigged games and the prizes are often straight junk.  You spend $5 to win a stuffed animal that costs $2 to make, your money is better spent at a real casino. Smiley

You do have a point but as we all know that everyone doesnt have that capability on playing on a casino neither they dont have casinos around on to their place or they dont
really feel to play since they are having just small amount of money to play on.I cant deny about that rigged games about the said prize and the money would be possibly
spent since i have the experience on playing to these kind of places. If you arent lucky enough you would end up going home without getting that prize.

The thing about playing in carnival games, you don’t feel like you’re spending that much since you only spend a small amount. Eventually, you don’t notice that you’ve bruned through hundreds already by the end of the day. Plus you usually just enjoy playing these games even while you don’t win after the nth time you’ve played. Not winning sometimes may even make you want to play more and more. It’s sort of addicting really, unconsciously.
194  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Chinese man jailed for 3.5 years after stealing electricity to mine bitcoin on: February 26, 2019, 11:39:54 AM
I thought that electricity is much cheaper in this country as they have lot of power plant specially nuclear powerplant https://www.euronuclear.org/info/encyclopedia/n/nuclear-power-plant-world-wide.htm. therefore there is no need to be against the law but maybe the man is just trying to earn huge thru mining that is why he do that but still stealing is a crime and punishable by law so hopefully Chinese people will refrain from doing it.

Even if electricity were cheaper, it would still be illegal to steal electricity to mine bitcoin. Mining takes up a large consumption of electricity, so something like that would definitely alarm the authorities. The original intent for the elctricity was not for mining bitcoin, so when it was used for other purposes, it’s then considered as stealing. The man was probably trying to save from the cost of electricity by doing so.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So I told my banker about bitcoin on: February 26, 2019, 07:38:33 AM
they’re not gonna learn to use bitcoin, only a handful of very young people are tech savvy enough to use smartphone to their fullest, the rest of them are just like our grandma dealing with smartphone.

If we look at it at a glance of course it feels a bit difficult, but gradually they will be able to understand or even do it easily, it's not time for bitcoin to be said to fail only because it's caused, by factors "are not good enough to use the phone for simple online banking". Humanely they are indeed friendly, but in banking, they have actually licensed robbers, which are covered by the law of the agency.
if the banker says that cash won't disappear, why are they so aggressively making payment platforms like wallets? You know, now every bank has its own platform for payment methods such as bill payment applications or whatever, it is a form of progress in time and cash will definitely be replaced by it, and bitcoin will also take an important position in the future
I don’t think cash will be replaced so easily in the near future. Although the use of cards is aggressively progressing as of now, I believe that the use of cash will still have a very long life. Even while we can see that there has been adoptions of crypto more and more each day, it may not eradicate the use of cash for the years to come. Many complications will be encountered such as the need of having a smartphone or device plus internet in order to have access to crypto.
196  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-02-24] 3 Properties,are being sold for cryptocurrencies in the Philippines on: February 25, 2019, 11:35:49 PM
This is rather a PR move by him. If he really wants cryptocurrency he can sell it for fiat and then buy crypto. The result will be the same because there are no fes when you buy cryptocurrency OTC and very little fees when you buy on exchange.
Also selling for fiat would be much easier because not many people own crypto compared to those who own fiat.

This is likely to be true, but with the unregulated nature of crypto in the Philippines, its especially a place where some fiat-related headaches can be avoided. I know a lot of business in the PI will only take cash: car dealerships, for instance. So if you can pay for something in crypto it would save you a lot of trips to the ATM (only 10,000 PHP, or ~$200 can be withdrawn at a time, and holding huge amounts of cash also makes you a target).

I don’t think it’s a PR move. The owner probably just wanted to add an option for buyers. Maybe he just wants his property to be sold immediately, and he knows that those who can afford it probably might own crypto. I don’t think this is such a big deal, but it’s cool to see how there are some already very open to the use of crypto even while there are limited merchant vendors in the Philippines where you can use and purchase crypto.

Reading that article makes me laugh because i don't know if it is real or nah, they were just part of it trying to catch someone's attention again. lol

Guess it's settled that it's no crypto but more like their own internal blockchain. Not surprised that they saw the benefit. Still pretty hilarious after all this guy said to diss bitcoin and cryptos in general.

It’s true, they’ve said so much at first and made many criticizations. I find it ironic that they’ve decided to adopt the technology. But it’s no surprise since blockchain technology really is remarkable. I guess at first they made such comments so that in the public they would like they were right and superior. So that crypto won’t be a threat to them, they have done such actions. Everything’s probably just a publicity act.
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM Philippines Helps Universities Provide Blockchain Electives on: February 22, 2019, 06:49:42 AM
It's a good move, though considering that it takes a fortune to study on ADMU, it's better to just take online courses and/or study about blockchain independently with the help of free resource materials on the internet. Not that I'm implying something negative here, but it seems that it's only exclusive to those who can afford it. Understanding and developing blockchains would be a hit niche in the future, and learning it should be available, accessible and affordable for everyone who wants to learn it. A good move by NEM, and hopefully public educational institutions would receive the same programs as well.

From what I read in the article, LPU College of Technology will also be having this blockchain elective course. I'm not so familiar with the tuition fee price range of Lyceum but I believe it to be lower than ADMU's. I'm pretty sure other technical colleges will soon have this blockchain elective as well, it's already a big step for one university to be having it.

What's great about this is having a certification or accreditation once finishing the course. As compared to when you self educate yourself thru sources online, you might not be able to prove to your future employers of your knowledge which was acquired thru the internet. Having completed an elective from a prestigious university may fare differently for a person's career.

200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 🎥 [VIDEO LIST] debates about Bitcoin & Cryptocurrencies on: February 21, 2019, 06:34:14 AM
Awesome, finally there's a site with a consolidated list of sources and information related to crypto. Many have been searching for places where they can know more about crypto so they've flocked to this forum. This should have more exposure. This would be perfect for those who are interested in crypto but don't know where to start.

I like your website overall, but why not add brief overviews for each category so that your audience will have some sort of background on them before proceeding to the sources? Like a definition of BTC under the section of Bitcoin (BTC), and so on.
