HELP compiling devcoin!

Our codebase repository is getting warmer! Mainly thanks to @Ctya's pull requests. Now we need everyone to compile devcoin to help us build a solid new release!

Please download the code from here:
https://github.com/devcoin/core/archive/f29c33c44e003d02ad2d5e3aff73e923229f52f0.zip

And report your findings here:

What is involved in running a seed node and do you need more?

Basically you run devcoind in a reliable server and you share the IP and port with @novacadian so that he can add it to his records.

Hi develCuy,

My understanding is that all of jasinlee's duties have now been assigned to other Admins (primarily ctya), as jasinlee had requested some time ago. Kudos to jasinlee for hanging in there, for so long, after that request!

The 2/5-Node Maintenance (seed node) duties mentioned above are still in question. Perhaps ctya would know if that was part of the server software/data moved off jasinlee's server? All the rest can be removed, though. Please let me know when your updates are complete so as to update the Devcoin HR Resources page accordingly.

Thanks,

Nova

I still hope to have some clear info about seed nodes because people could claim they do things but they aren't. How can we confirm that a seed node is running if we don't even know the IP address?

My take on it is to become a little strict. Apart from my node (http://dvcexplorer.wy.si/) I don't know of any other.

NOW listen carefully

I'll drop node maintenance rewards from people not replying to this message. Deadline is 2 weeks!

Emfox, Hunterbunter, Jasinlee, Markm, Shattienator PLEASE CONFIRM that you are still run your seed nodes. (sent you a private message as well)

EVERYONE If you are not mentioned but you are in contact with such people, please reply here.

Thanks!

P.S: If you have other duties, please confirm those as well

I did not move a seed node as any part of the devtome.com/devcoin.org move.

@CTYA, can you get confirmation from Jasinlee that the seed node is still running?
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: July 31, 2018, 07:38:01 PM
Guys I was browsing the devcoin.org website and I found that it hasn't been updated in a while.  I found in the FAQ, for example, that Vircurex and Cryptsy are listed in there.

I really don't know who is in charge of that, but we need to update the information in there.

Thank you!

devcoin.org has the same IP address as devtome.com

I was told that jasinlee owns devtome.com so I assume jasinlee also owns devcoin.org

Over the weekend I moved the hosting of devtome.com and devcoin.org.

My thanks to jasinlee and markm for their trust and the access provided to facilitate the move.

CTYA

Great news and congrats CTYA! I must also say thanks to Jasinlee for taking care of devtome till now, hard earned credit!

@Novacadian, I see that Jasinlee is currently assigned the following Ongoing shares:

- 2-Devtome Administrator
- 1-Web Factotum(http://coinzen.org/index.php/topic=147.msg34384.html#msg34384)
- 2/5-Node Maintenance(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg2128556#msg2128556)
- 2/5-Portal Maintenance(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg2198037#msg2198037)

Now that @CTYA has communication with Jasinlee, can you guys help me to confirm if any of them should stay?

Thanks in advance!

I'm getting this ERROR when restoring a backup with multiple wallets:

Quote
Uncaught exception: Error: wallet not found: [something], is_change=0, index=0

I managed to delete one of my wallets by accident so I'm trying to restore it from my latest backup.

188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 40 Share Award for CTYA for Listing on Bisq on: June 08, 2018, 05:09:51 AM
Hi Wiser,

yes you download the Bisq client and it runs like the devcoin client / wallet where it connects to nodes and peers, select your currency from dropdown menus and shows rates etc. Not worked out how to actually trade or deposit yet but might make a steemit article if i get it working etc or put one on devtome

Fuzzybear

I went ahead and installed the Bisq network program. It's kind of a wallet, sort of. I figured out where the DVC/BTC market is and how to make an offer. That market it currently empty. They require a security deposit of 0.01 BTC just to make an offer, which is a HUGE turnoff. The platform is also rather clunky, as are all decentralized exchanges I've had to use over the years. I don't much like it. I'll keep playing around. I want to see if there might be a DVC/LTC market. I don't see why not. It might be easier to visualize if a few others placed offers.

Paying part of a listing fee to be on Stocks.exchange just got more attractive...

The other elephant in the room issue I see with the whole listing DVC on an exchange thing is this: what reason would people have for buying it? Can we point to anything being developed, worked on, planned, that would make this coin attractive to a potential buyer? It has to go beyond "DVC is one of the oldest cryptocoins so it's historic."

We are back to exchanges and now figure out the next step: Trading Volume. People use crypto as an asset, for speculation or as a currency. Devcoin was created as a currency due to its volatility and infinite supply. In short, IMHO we should focus on promoting the use of Devcoin for buying goods and services.

Look at Github, they are a Software as a Service (SaaS) company, acquired by Micro$oft for US$7.5 billion a few days ago. Now look at STEEM, they have their own currency and they are creating services all the time, that should be constant for us as well.

Let's create new services that accept Devcoin, and let's make existing services to accept Devcoin. It will turn on our engine of growth.

Regarding our Devcoin+STEEM Integration project, this is how our 12 shares are distributed from round 83:

Marketing Team

- Qterar: 1 share
- FuzzyBear: 1 share
- Develcuy: 1 share

Infrastructure (Hosting)
- Develcuy: 4 shares

STEEM POWER fund (for @devcoin)
- Develcuy: 5 shares

In short, 9 shares to pay expenses and 3 shares for payroll. For transparency I plan to publish bills in this thread on each round, one post per round isn't too much noise IMHO. Any objection?

"May I have your attention please!" (Eminem feat.)

I managed to write an STEEM article, it is more an introduction to this new stage and I hope to get lots of feedback on it, whether comments, questions, constructive critics, etc. STEEM is a blogging community, good content IS gold!

There you have it:

P.S: Marketing team, please recommend improvements to the post in a PM to me Wink
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Honest Whale on: May 31, 2018, 06:51:19 PM
My feeling is that the only way to force change on those with the power to do so is to offer an ultimatum. That is to first make changes to the code with regards to the vote weighting and then present it to the top 20 witnesses explaining that if they do not except it that there will be a real fork in the traditional sense of the word. That is a fork like BTC/BCH where the branches both retain the original blockchain.

You could try putting the Steemit tokens of devcoiners together to form an honest whale, the devcoiners would pick someone to be a trustee. You would still only have a small whale, but once you have something then other Steemit users would join. Make a Steemit page where you describe how your whale would vote according to an equal voting of the token sharers. With at least 5% of the total Steemit tokens, you could in effect give your token holders equal voting weight to the whales, without having to change the n^2 part of the code.

Could it be possible Unthinkingbit to assign some regular shares for this purpose? I mean to fund a whale like this in steemit using DVCs?

@novacadian, @wiser, @Unthinkingbit, @Qtera and everyone supporting the STEEM-DVC integration, first of all thanks for that. I have great hopes for Devcoin since the very beginning of this integration project!

So..., I'm taking a breathe from personal stuff to start working on the next stage of STEEM-DVC. I agree with the strategy proposed by @novacadian, in the STEEM world we can only set the rules if we are one of the top 20 witnesses. That is a very ambitious target but certainly not impossible! We just need to start and keep moving!

This is how I plan to split our 12 shares:

- Infrastructure & Apps: 4 shares for hosting
- Capital: 5 shares for buying STEEM POWER
- Marketing: 3 shares for collaborators (one for each)

Note that STEEM POWER generates more STEEM POWER and SBD, and my policy is to buy more STEEM POWER with those generated earnings, since our goal is to speed up the growth of our @devcoin whale. Also, this is a Devcoin project so we will always pay our collaborators with Devcoin.

Marketing efforts are key here, because we have to be campaigning actively in order to gain support from STEEM community. Every vote for our @devcoin whale will get us closer to our target.

In other news, I still owe you guys the STEEM article to announce all this great news. Stay tuned because Sunday is my inspiration day!

[...]Everyone willing to collaborate with STEEM-DVC and earn some bounty please NOW is your time! Let's make things happen NOW!

How can we help develCuy? Do you have something in mind?

For sure! We need people using the integration. Would you help with PR (marketing)?

Same I am here to help where I can also though not familiar with platform

Fuzzybear

Supercool! I'm writing a blog post with my ideas so we can start a discussion. I think we can start using steemit.com for it. So please make sure to have an account there.

The basic requirement for this integration is to use the "devcoin" tag for new posts. There are other things but the most important is to promote the use of the tag so that we can have a namespace

As I write the blog post you guys could investigate on potential channels and strategies to promote STEEM-DVC integration. Other important thing is to create an slogan or motto for this integration, a sentence that could help us spread the word and to promote the adoption of STEEM-DVC. I'll have a lot more to say in the blog post, just keep in mind these things for Marketing.

194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Share authority for CTYA, develCuy and Markm on: May 07, 2018, 06:21:22 PM
To give people more incentive to do stuff, I want to give authority to CTYA, develCuy, and Markm to hand out up to 12 shares each. They would each have the authority to hand out shares for people who helped their fields, without having to specifically ask for permission on the thread. This means people who do something could get paid faster, without the extra time and thread clutter of asking for each bounty or payment on the thread.

CTYA could hand out up to 12 shares per round to people who help get an exchange; develCuy could hand out up to 12 shares per round to people who help with either Steemit or coding devcoin. Markm could hand out up to 12 shares per round to people who help with either his exchange or Open Transactions.

Also CTYA would get 20 shares per round into an account, which he would convert to popular cryptocoins by some means like Markm's exchange, to offer to exchanges in return for listing devcoin. Basically, once he had crypto saved up from that account, he'd send another message to exchanges who didn't outright reject devcoin telling them there's now an extra payment for listing devcoin.

They've all agreed to do this. If anyone becomes corrupt and starts giving away shares for no reason, which I do not expect at all, then that person would lose their share authority. Any objections?

Thanks for your trust Unthinkingbit! I plan to use some of those shares for paying server expenses since running an STEEM node requires BIG RAM (~32 GB currently). The rest of shares are available for contributors. Everyone willing to collaborate with STEEM-DVC and earn some bounty please NOW is your time! Let's make things happen NOW!

So all is functional, lets get it back up onto the exchange and start on a steem fork integration?

what is the proposal for steem fork integration?

We don't need to fork anymore! I implemented an integration of DVC and STEEM, so that you can merged mine DVC from your STEEM activity. Btw I'm really busy for the last couple months and haven't had time to catch up with this integration. I should get some free time soon to push things forward!
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Advertising on: March 23, 2018, 02:50:10 AM
Definitely too much invested in DevTome to throw it away at this point. We might want to to look into creating an AdSense compliant content branch so that it can begin generating some cash flow as promised, though. We may want to think of some uses of blockchain that have come to be since DVC's conception. Chains like steem, for example. Could there be something that the DVC blockchain could bring to the alt coin table that is not already there?

- Nova

One reason advertisers gave for not advertising on devtome is that it is about everything, and many advertisers prefer sites focusing on one topic.

To give advertisers the focus they want, an open source blog website could be made. Writers would have their own blogs, and those blogs that became popular would get advertisers, and that money would go to those writers. The content on all blogs would be mirrored on devtome. This way the writers would get advertising money, and devtome would get more content.

To start, maybe the blogs could be on Steemit, expanding what develCuy is doing. Eventually it would probably be best to make our own blog site, so people would know that everything on the domain would be open source.

Yep, we need more devcoin users blogging in Steemit and voting @devcoin for witness, so that we can build joint value. STEEM has a business value that works collectively.

I confirm that @ctya has successfully transferred ownership of devcoin organization in GitHub to my account!

This is the new URL of the official devcoin repository: https://github.com/devcoin/core

Please someone give @ctya a drink!

Regarding repositories, I have transferred the two repositories of (website and theme) to http://explorer.devcoin.info/

- https://github.com/devcoin/block_explorer-theme

Note that this website needs a lot of love! Any designer available to help with CSS and HTML?

what we really need is a wallet update
anybody want to do that?

Sidhujag has remained in the Source Administrator position until such time as a replacement can be found. Anyone interested please let me know.

Hey Nova! I'm maintaining the Source code for the last 3 years. Look: https://github.com/coinzen/devcoin/commits Didn't know there was a position for it. Anyways I'm on charge of the source code by default.

In charge of source code by default? What does that mean exactly? Have you made any changes to the code recently?

- Nova

By default, like in a sports match. We were a team of three people, now I'm the only one remaining in the team doing my best to maintain the source code. Look at the history of source code changes here: https://github.com/coinzen/devcoin/commits

I communicated with GitHub support and managed to get the devcoin account at GitHub assigned to me.
I added develcuy as an admin at https://github.com/devcoin so this can become the official repo with the most recent source code.

I am definitely for Devtome to continue to remain in service.  I wish there was a way it could be better monetized and revitalized.

I can integrate devtome with STEEM, so that users can receive STEEM and SBD tokens for their original content published via devtome.com, DVC bounty for authors will remain the same. I think nobody is unhappy with more profits Wink
