DISCUSSION ON THE FUTURE OF DEVCOINFirst of all, thanks everyone for your patience! I had to take a time to discuss internally with the people that expressed support to my initiative of hardforking Devcoin. I waited a reasonable amount of time for their answers. Now is time to make the discussion public. Yes! I'm planning to hardfork Devcoin! this is the actual plan: 1. Define a new Rewards Distribution System (RDS) for new generated Devcoins (a new policy for the receiver_xx.csv files) 2. Define a new Inflation Rate Strategy (IRS O_o!), no more wild generation of Devcoins! 3. Implement RDS & IRS in tesnet 4. Hardfork Devcoin I know Devcoin has many downsides, but we have some strengths: Many people is holding Devcoin! We are not starting from scratch. There is still an exchange site supporting this project and an strong force of miners giving live to Devcoin's blockchain. Everyone interested on the future of Devcoin, please share your insights on RDS & IRS. We need a fair system that ensures we are rewarding people that are actually serving the purpose of Devcoin, along with managing the inflation rate in a way that promotes Devcoin's ecosystem.I look forward to your feedback Devcoiners!

As a silent holder, just wanted to thank the devs for their efforts. Back in the day I've also been writing Devtome posts and whatnot and always liked the devcoin idea. Even if it is quite around DVC now, maybe it will ressurect at some point.
@R-J-F @niceli, I do appreciate your feedback a lot! It only encourages us to keep working hard This time we really want to make it better. Please stay tuned and don't worry about the price fluctuations, we are still on baby steps, things will improve as we make progress! are you working on devcoin fulltime or partime? if not do you know what happen to the original founder or any dev is currently working on it? im interested in buying some bc i like its long history and its potential. maybe we can start with community support and create discord or slack. thanks. Kind of part-time. The original founder still collaborates a little with the maintenance of current Devcoin blockchain. He has not shown any interest on changing how Devcoin works AFAIK. I'm running a plan to rebird Devcoin, all investors are welcome!

Are you ready for a new start? .... What changes are proposed? How will they be cemented in development, organisation and user base? What do you hope to achieve that's currently precluded? (solely a higher price is too dreamy as there are now zillions of alts). As suggested above, think you need to lay out a plan. A number of us tried to change direction in the past and got nowhere (most unfortunately lost with previous forum). Notable roadblocks included opinion summarised by at least a couple of your listed supporters, so I'd suggest outlining detail before assuming any breadth of fellow travellers. If I sound cynical that's due to experience and a well-meant caution on repeating the same cycles of disappointment + wasted time/expense, not being an @rsehole. Exactly what i ment. I'd even help in their "new team". But just marketing talk wont do any good. @K1773R I sent you a PM since you are part of the "new team" We have things to discuss internally, I want us to be well coordinated. I think one of the mistakes from the past is that there was much discussion with little to zero progress as @weisoq suggested. For everyone following this thread, please stay tuned to my next post, we have a very important discussion upfront!

Are you ready for a new start?
I born ready! How about you? In the aims of bringing new life to Devcoin, we found a road block: Get Devcoin miners to cooperate. We had no luck, yet we have a way to workaround this issue. I'm talking with some people that would help us fix this. If they want to, we'll be another step closer to a new Devcoin.
In the mean time, please keep using Devcoin, I have seen with great enthusiasm that the DVC/BTC pair is back thanks to Coingather. Devcoin currently fluctuates between 1 and 4 satoshis. I think we can double it, 8 satoshis! if we just keep moving forward.
Thanks to new Devcoin Project Team for supporting me, so far we have: @Wekkel @wiser @Shattienator and @ranlo.
When are we fixing Devcoin?
This is hard to say, we don't control this beast called market but we can certainly influence it. Also, we should start solid, that takes time, but things happen when they happen. Do you remember where were we at just two months ago? We now have DVC/BTC exchanging back. So we should be doing something right or maybe we are just lucky, I think both things are happening!
Let's see how DVC develops the next 30 days.
May Devcoin be back and stronger!

DVC price is not doing badly on Coingather.
Agreed. A little over a BTC and it's back up to 100sat, as well. I'd love for it to get there (or higher) and stabilize... I will try to buy a little the next few months. Feels like going back home. This is a good start indeed but we should keep moving! Do you guys REALLY want 100 satoshis per DVC? Please HELP US reach out UTB and Devcoin miners, it will easy the hardfork A LOT! Also, we need at least one more person for the test network, don't let the train go again. PLEASE HELP US HELP YOU!! You want to hardfork with no real plan or really needed changes (the mirrors work, you dont need "other" mirrors). Come up with a real idea which is WORTH to hardfork. Yes, we need real plan , roadmap... Did you miss it? Read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.msg19381033#msg19381033

Are you including me in that 3 number? I already uploaded receiver71 to my mirror, Wonderful @ranlo! So we now have @wiser and you as mirrors. Going to reach out to you guys via PM once the test net is ready. I've had mirrors up for a LONG time (at least 1.5 years now, though I believe longer). UTB still pings me once a month to have me upload the latest, . Hey @ranlo, can you ping UTB? I think everything will be easier if he wants to cooperate! After all, he created Devcoin

You can count on me too. I will setup server for receiver files mirror and block explorer soon.
@Shattienator, thanks for your offer! For now I'm accepting existing mirrors only. Once we have the new distribution system in place, we should discuss about onboarding new mirrors. Yet, maybe you can help with testing, the new distribution system will first run on the test network, so we are sure it actually works as we expect.

the mirrors work just fine.
They work but we are changing the receiver_xx.csv files in order to implement a new distribution system for rewards. The mirrors are not controlled by us, so we have to implement new mirrors with the new files. NOTE, this will happen for future rounds, old files will stay the same. I'm happy to continue to be a receiver file admin. I have my own Github account where I upload them. Just let me know. Thanks. Thanks @wiser! We are now 3 people on-board! We still need miners to help us!! Please help us reach them! Ideas?

Hey MicroGuy, IconFirm, ranlo, Judge-Dredd, I see you guys got some free time, yet only Wekkel has offered help so far.
Again, I ask you guys for help to contact the devcoin miners, we can't fix Devcoin without updating the majority of miners (more than 50%). Do you want things to stay as they are? Do nothing, otherwise please put your hands dirty!
CALL for new Devcoin Project TEAM!!
I got an idea of a new asset! BUT I want to team up with people that really cares about contributing to Devcoin project long-term. The business of Devcoin is to fund creators, call them artists, photographers, free software developers, ... we should be building assets so we can fund more people and projects. That said, we can still make money with Devcoin as with any other cryptocurrency, but we should never forget about the core of Devcoin.
This is the plan:
1. Build a new Devcoin community asset 2. Hardfork devcoin: new mirrors for receiver_xx.csv files, new rewards distribution system, new countdown
If you have the skills and time to team up please PM me. So far we only have Wekkel, for #1 and me for #2, we can move faster with more team players.
If you are not helping, please keep this channel clean. Thanks!

Thanks @aatheus! It was a pleasure to merge that pull requests, I hope more to come! People! Everyone! We still have control of the source code so we can bring Devcoin back on track. Hence I'm not a C++ expert, I know programming pretty well I can read new pull requests and to merge the right ones. Also, devtome.com might seem lost but we can always start a new wiki and build new assets. Regarding the problem with downloading receiver_xx files, guess that this is a great opportunity to reorganize. Those who want to help just bring in new mirrors, I can take care of maintaining the new receivers files so we start re-distributing Devcoin to the new team of contributors starting next block, along with building a new countdown. There is just a little detail here. We need the owners of hash power to jump in and update their miners, I have no contact with any of them but if you are listening and willing to bring Devcoin back to life, PLEASE HELP! While we are on that, we can still test the new receiver files infrastructure in a test network, anybody willing to help please just say so in a private message to me, here in bitcointalk. May Devcoin be back and stronger!

Thanks @sawa and @ranlo! I manually downloaded the receiver_69.csv into .devcoin/receiver/ then started devcoind, now we got the explorer back online: http://explorer.devcoin.info/I had this issue before, somehow devcoind marked receiver_69.csv as downloaded but the file was missing, it is not downloading the file again so the program just ends with an error. Now we have to get back into an exchange because Coingather delisted Devcoin

Devcoin client shows last block number 276375, dated April 20. No blocks beyond this date. Devcoin have died?
This is what I get in console: Warning, writeFileText in receiver.h won't write the file: .devcoin/receiver/receiver_69.csv because the text is blank. No coin addresses were found, there may be something wrong with the receiver_x.csv files. Warning, no coin lists were found for the file: receiver.csv ERROR: ConnectBlock() : Share to beneficiary is insufficient In short, file receiver_69.csv can't be found, all mirrors are down, we need a new mirror and to add it to devcoind source code, then recompile and cross fingers.

By all means, if you have the time and inclination to restore devcoin then do it. When I took over from Unthinkingbit, capital was fleeing devcoin through devtome, which wasn’t even close to paying itself off. With a sinking price I didn’t act quickly enough (nor really had the power) to stem it before the bottom fell out and exchanges starting dying or delisting dvc. Without exchange support, there was no price support, and without price support the shares were worthless as an incentive, so no one wanted to do anything to help fix it. There was basically a hyperinflation of devcoin going on due to capital flight - devtome was a money sink that never paid itself off. I think in two years it amassed something like 0.5btc in advertising revenue. Since then, I’ve tried a handful of restart attempts but it’s obvious that I’m not cut out for the job. If you or anyone else would like to take over that’s fine with me. Unthinkingbit is in charge of accounting, everyone else is apparently in charge of whatever he left them in charge of when he resigned as leader. He’s the only one we have to inform. Who’d like to do it? Just say so. Devcoin is a great cause and if people have the interest in redefining it, I would never stand in the way. Whoever takes over should focus on getting exchange support again. To get that you need to get someone to update the code to the latest bitcoin branch. Either kill, or clean up devtome so advertisers that actually pay will touch it. The only thing I really manage is the 'ongoing list' and I've purged that as much as I can. It can probably be purged further, but without exchange support the whole thing is a bit moot. I put this together when I took over to track who's supposed to be doing what: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_human_resourcesHunterbunter I wasn't aiming at you personally, I'm just appalled by the waste of a good idea this coin is and found scary that even the leader didn't even log in the past months I think that this coin has a great potential and has died before it could have shown what it's capable of I'm not 100% sure it would work but I'm sure it died too soon to know So yeah I think it badly needs to be redefined by whoever wants to be part of this, I personally would love to help but it would need more people to do something useful Anyway, thanks for your input Hunterbunter Devcoin died? Are you kidding me? I'll sound tough here (So sorry boy)... every time we do something to help Devcoin recover, people comes to say nonsense. Realize something if it is not clear to you guys. Devcoin has solid network hashing power from merged mining. They are not uninstalling Devcoin from their miners even when it disappeared from exchange markets, they are doing it now, so forget about killing Devcoin. It is alive and staying for years. Now consider the possibilities, if we can't kill Devcoin, what to do so? Use Devcoin or just forget about it, period. Those who want to keep using Devcoin and to help it grow please PM me, It is time to take over. Are you collaborating with us @Hunterbunter?

It looks like we got Devcoin back to the market! Just added coingather to the wiki: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=where_to_spend_your_devcoinsAlso, I'm using DVC for fun, with trillions of DVC available for very cheap and a still strong mining force, DVC is ideal for integrating into games or any on-line app that needs to track points and balances.

Well i have cleaned up the forum as a start Fuzzybear Great, thanks Who control coinzen.org though? Because there are many links to it and although the root page redirects to devcointalk, all the other pages (like http://coinzen.org/index.php/board,49.0.html here: https://github.com/coinzen/devcoin/) shows this: Page Not Found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please try the following:
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Click the Back button in your browser to try another link. Use a search engine like Google to look for information on the Internet. Good catch! Actually we don't need a development forum at all. The issue queue is just enough, and we have an IRC channel, do we need more?
