If you take "ever" as in "in eternity", you have a probability of 100% to mine a block, hell, you're even 100% likely to mine 1000 blocks with only 1 hash per second! Please specify a REAL timeframe like "within the next 5 years", not infinity! Not true as there's a finite number of bitcoins. But not a finite number of blocks. After we stop minting coins, there will still be new blocks with transaction fees. True, but I was under the assumption he meant a block that produces a BTC prize, not a fee. You don't get charged a fee for generating a block in the future. YOU get awarded the fee, so it's still a BTC prize. |

why does everyone make this mistake when it's clearly a The rules for "A" and "An" are not based on the actual letters, but on whether your mouth starts open or closed on the following word (which USUALLY corresponds to vowel/consonant), and in this case, since you say "Em Em Oh Are Pee Gee" not "morpig" (or something), it is "an MMORPG". There are some other examples, but they don't come to mind. You're off by a factor of 50. current block# * peak price * 50 coins per block. There's over 6.6 million coins out there right now. Even at $15 that's $99 million. At the peak it was ~ 6 million * $30. 180 million. Right, forgot that, still, paltry compared to the lure of all the above. |

Finding a collision isn't breaking SHA256. Breaking SHA256 (or at least, any manner of breaking that would matter to us) is finding a FAST and EFFICIENT way to find a collision, other than brute forcing. There is no way to do this that is currently known, and it's stood up to many many cryptographic tests and analysis, people trying to hack it for years.
well its different when you just work for your guaranteed wages and when there is a instant free big money floating, people could improve in their skills considerably with the right motivation. However this is most probably a supercomputer working for a short time. Or more probably a good luck. Also, nothing says this is the same person. If it went to multiple addresses, it could very well be multiple people. If it went to the same address, that could be one of the larger pools' addresses. The conspiracy theorists in this forum are growing thick as mud. |
