1801  Bitcoin / Mining / Windows 7 VS Windows XP, both 32 bit on: March 01, 2011, 04:18:34 PM
I have quad core, 4 GB RAM with Sapphire HD6870 1GB for mining. & 2 hard disks. one is 500GB & other is 80GB.
Usually i use win 7 for everyday life & mostly i will be installing & uninstalling any new softwares i see. & its always crowded with softwares.

Only 3 days ago i got HD6870 & before i had 9400GT.
i am getting 210Mhash/s at 900 clk (default) & 230Mhash/s at 999 clk OC.
If i go over 1010+ system crashes & at 1005 i got white pixels..
Having ati catalyst 11.2 & also SDK 2.3.

Today suddenly i wondered since win 7 using more graphics ....for visual appeal, what if i try in xp, will i get more hash/s.
So, i uninstalled all the nvida drivers & installed 11.2 & SDK 2.3 of xp.

When i ran the same poclbm in win xp, it makes background things slow.
when mining, everything takes time to open....system becomes slow.

Some one used/using xp getting better than win 7 or same or less.
Please any advices welcome.

I can't accept this. as already kiv said , he has problem with single installation file.
Why many people don't have 7z support ?
Its an open source compression program which is free. people wont download a 2MB application to extract, & mine in GUI than stressing with cmd prompt?

Why I have to install other non relevant stuff on my computer for retrieving some application? Who cares about compression ratio in times of cable (or faster) internet connection? Downloading the file in EXE is much better and easier, if your concern is to give best user experience. And if somebody don't want to provide EXE, ZIP is much better choice.

The most of users don't care if the compression tool is or isn't opensource. But they have to install it to get poclbm GUI, it's one step more for no reason.

Installing an application requires at least 3-5 clicks as ok's & Next's...& extract is just one click & one step.

2) Make it as single executable file. Extracting zip is annoying and also many people don't have support for 7z.

http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

It has support for almost all OS.
from windows, linux..to

p7zip for Debian (and Ubuntu)
p7zip for Fedora Core
p7zip for Gentoo
p7zip for AltLinux.org
p7zip for FreeBSD
p7zip for Mac OS X
EZ 7z for Mac OS X
7zX for Mac OS X
keka - the free Mac OS X file archiver
p7zip for BeOS
p7zip for DOS / DJGPP
p7zip for Amiga
p7zip for Solaris
7-Zip for other systems:

7-Zip Extracter for WinCE

Try it. I am personally using 7zip & winrar for more than 2 years & winrar is evaluation version.
And in my knowledge, any program extract correctly, only if u need to create compressed file, u need good compressor. so for decompressing 7zip is far better than BULKY winzip.

CUTE. thats the only word i can use to describe it.
A long time wait for a gui miner is done by you.
Thanks a lot for that.
I just saw it & downloaded & mining. coz its very very very simple.

Even though terminal window is ugly, but it is useful, so please in tab or even have extra option to turn on/off terminal window.
Since u use tabs , if a 4 * 5970, can be run in just 4 tabs with ur cute gui. so a lot of free space in display & terminal can use that, instead of tabbing terminal, as we have to click every time to see whats in terminal tab.
Terminal have to be separate.

1809  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New mining pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution on: February 27, 2011, 06:50:51 AM
I joined ur pool.
Even i mined some shares at 220MH.
But so far even after 7-10 hours no share is showed in my account.
It says 0000000 balance only & i have not received any btc. even micros.
also ur stats page says reward none.
No one so far paid?
Or i am the only one having problem?
1810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A simple application to backup your wallet in Dropbox and Gmail on: February 24, 2011, 06:41:47 AM
This only backs up the wallet, correct? I'm assuming it cannot copy while the bitcoin program is running, but I don't know how bitcoin uses the wallet file and if it locks it or not. Could you let me know?

This looks to be what I have been looking for.
just create .bat file (for windows 7, in xp other path to wallet.dat):
Code:
@echo off
:start
xcopy.exe "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin\wallet.dat" "C:\%Dropbox_folder%\" /y
sleep 1800
goto start
and do not trust third-party programs

when i run this i got this error
C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop>sleep 1800
'sleep' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

How to solve it?
Also is there any way to do incremental backup (I mean n+1 files)?
1811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i made new System for give free Bitcoin (only project) on: February 23, 2011, 07:22:02 PM

After clicking ok, page refreshes & again same popout window.
It really hard to even close the webpage.
Buggy. & so far i cant even able to get 1 bitcoin

1813  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need Help to start Mining on: February 18, 2011, 06:01:05 PM
For Windows XP:    C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Application Data\Bitcoin
Windows Vista:   C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

I do not have this file anywhere.

Yes, the folder exists nowhere, coz in the place of "YOURUSERNAME"  u should put windows login username. ex: Administrator, Guest....
1814  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GPU mining slower than CPU mining? on: February 16, 2011, 04:57:56 PM
With 16 cores what u get is ok.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units#GeForce_300_Series

It actually don't support opencl, even though says supports opencl 1.1
My card 9400GT has same specs & it mines only 2500 khash/s at 550MHZ & at 700MHz, mines at 3400 khash/s

So, it normal.
poclbm gives much higher rate in cuda than RPC.
Try poclbm.

1815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Problem with new GPU on: February 14, 2011, 07:31:51 PM
Wanted to let you know what the problem was. Turns out my motherboard, http://usa.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=szSFtrap7crpBaQE, only supports either SLI or a single card. The second slot is not powerful enough to run a card on it's own. Go figure. Thanks to those who helped.

U better contact the ASUS support & ask them can u have two ati cards & run without cross fire.
1816  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 3.20 avaiable on Sourceforge while 3.19 on the main site ? on: February 14, 2011, 07:13:07 PM
Windows version 0.3.20 released in sourceforge
1817  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need Help to start Mining on: February 14, 2011, 07:05:04 PM
Just create a bat file & put it in the extracted poclbm_py2exe_20110204 folder where the poclbm.exe is.
The bat file of mine has this only

C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\poclbm_py2exe_20110204\poclbm.exe -d0 --host=mining.bitcoin.cz --port=8332 --user=***** --pass=****

it opens command window & stays & runs.
I am in pool mine so use host & port address.

Since u not in pool, u have to use the username & password of the rpcuser & rpcpassword in the bitcoin.conf file. & no need for --host & --port
The bitcoin.conf file for windows 7 is C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin

For Windows XP:    C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Application Data\Bitcoin

Windows Vista:   C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin
