1821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 10:03:16 PM

A coin swap simply wouldn't work because we would want any new coin to be completely separate from XBC/DCM. Jia, Mindfox and myself have all lost a lot of money in one way or another and so the impetus to create a new, better managed coin would be lost if it was essentially just BitcoinPlus 2.0.

This is why I suggested a fund which could be used to create something new. Donators could receive coins based on their donations, but for a variety of reasons a 1:1 swap just wouldn't work. A 'pre-exchange' price would need to be set and coins would need to be allocated based on this.

This is the part I disagree with. I don't see a whole lot of people willing to donate or buy new coins (essentially an ipo), right after losing a ton on XBC ... UNLESS they were also getting a coin swap. I mean, pretend you weren't part of the team, just a regular investor. Why would you want to give donations or be especially interested in paying even more btc, for yet another coin by whomever is remaining from the XBC team?

I think if you go the new coin route, a coin swap has to be included, or some giveaway... or something. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 swap, as if it was, there would be no extra funds at all. A partial swap could work. Otherwise I don't think any XBC people will care at all about this new coin. In my opinion, whatever coin you come up with won't be entirely separate from XBC/DCM regardless, as it'll simply be known as that 'new coin made by ex-XBC members'. Your choice is if you want that new coin to be thought of as yet another way to make money, or as a way to help those who lost money/were scammed.
1822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 09:23:57 PM

Neither myself, Jiapetz or Mindfox were involved in DCM and the code that Mindfox created for XBC is open source. Anybody is free to develop their own coin from it. The point I was making is that unless a COMPETENT and NON-ANONYMOUS team is formed with the necessary funds to develop and market a new coin, there's no point even attempting it - hence my suggestion.

Yeah, if you can't gather up a new team, any talk about new coins, swaps, or whatever, is meaningless. But I'm not sure you'd really need a lot of new members really, would you? What did Serious do anyway? If you, Japetz and Mindfox ran your own coin, how many more members would you need? Or is it a situation where nobody remaining wants to be part of a new coin, so you'd need an entirely new team and new coder? I can't say I'd blame anyone for leaving at this point.

And how much is Mindfox owed from his past work, and how much would it require to start a new coin?

If it's a ton, donations or whatever won't really work. If Mindfox wants to take a larger role, the ipo suggestion could in theory work. Again, with a coin swap being part of the deal. People may be willing to donate to Mindfox and/or buy a small amount of ipo coins, if they knew you'd swap their xbc for this new coin. But even then, I wouldn't expect a whole lot.
1823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 08:01:15 PM

Any new coin would need to be entirely separate from XBC or DCM as both coins carry enough baggage with them for the fudsters to make life difficult from the start. I know it sounds harsh, but when it comes to investing in crypto, it really is a case of 'buyer beware'. People should NEVER invest what they can't afford to lose. Sure being compensated for bad investments would be nice, but the reality of the situation is that this isn't going to happen.

It'd need to be an entirely new coin. But if there is no coin swap, why would anyone here even care about it? Nobody would care about a new coin made using the same XBC codebase, if they weren't getting something out of it. So whatever is done, it may not be 100% entirely separate from XBC or DCM, as if it is, why would any XBC/DCM person care? The whole point would be to sort of recover what you can from this whole debacle.

People could either:

Sell their XBC at most likely an enormous loss

Or if a new coin was created with a swap in mind, simply swapover coins (ideally have an exchange handle it), with a new team in place. Funding could be done via the team's meager (I guess super meager) holdings, donations and if an ipo is held.

I'm not saying it's a great idea. Just that it's an idea. Not sure what else to even try or suggest.
1824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 07:28:28 PM

  • Everyone cuts their losses and sells their holdings in what is essentially now a dead project. The funds could then be moved into a dedicated BTC wallet and we could use this to pay Mindfox to develop a new coin from the XBC codebase. This would give people a small opportunity to recoup money that has been lost. A small and tight team would be created along the same veins as the excellent Vericoin - ie everyone is accountable by using their real names and everyone has defined roles.

That would be the route I'd go with. I suggested a coin swap earlier, and think people may go for that a bit more (DCM people too). Funding for the new coin could be either from existing team's funds from selling XBC (however meager they may be) + if you convinced Polo to run an ipo under their new ICD rules. These rules state that no funds will go to devs unless they are used for what they say they will, and supposedly they will keep strict bookkeeping.

Of course I expect only a tiny portion of people willing to invest in yet another ipo, but even if it does okay-ish, it should be enough to pay Mindfox. Instead of doing the destroyed coin thing, provide a proportional coin swap with existing holders of XBC + DCM. That way they won't take a total loss. At current prices, anyone selling XBC or DCM is getting killed.

A new coin gets around the issue of locked domains/ftp and the negative connotations with DCM/XBC. Of course all that MP voting would have gone to waste, but a dead coin getting listed probably won't do that great anyway.
1825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 06:21:25 PM
Yep it doesn't make sense for the devs to abandon now.  Why would they not wait until until MP?  They'd have made more profit that way.

I really wondered about that part too. It didn't make sense, as even scammers would normally wait until the MP pump, then vanish.

But the timing goes well with DCM. Two devs received 22btc, so they may have figured they'd call it a day and pack it in then. There were also several mini-pumps occurring with XBC previously, when XBC moved into the top 10 list for voting. So there was plenty of time for the devs to unload their coins at a much higher price than it is now. It's not necessarily an optimal way to go about it, but I'm sure they made their money.

Now if they wait a few days, and then make a miraculous return, while scooping up dirt cheap coins, they probably could profit a bit more even. I don't think that will happen, but if I put my evil thinking cap on, that would be one way to go.
1826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 04, 2014, 04:52:39 PM

If anyone has any suggestions or plans/courses of action, please let me know. Keep in mind the points from above in regards to the man-power we have left, scarce funding, and the account access issue.

I threw out some ideas to  coinerz a couple of days ago, but they probably weren't particularly good ideas. The real problem is funding for Mindfox.

If we pretend you wanted to take over the coin, then you could gather some sort of team. Plenty of coins have small teams. The problem is then paying Mindfox for his past work, and future work. Issues like access to the domain and such would ideally need to be addressed too.

You could go the donation route, but I doubt you'd get very much. You basically need one of those revival teams who take on dead-ish coins. Or a dev willing to either work on this unpaid, or is willing to make a new coin and do a complete swapover with XBC. Due to the negativity from DCM, and I expect now towards XBC, a complete coin swap to a different coin may not be the worst idea.

Again, funding would be the issue. Only ways I see around that are the unlikely scenarios of Serious or Wallenstein sharing some of the DCM ipo funds with XBC or another ipo (and I'm sure after DCM, people wouldn't be overjoyed with that idea). Mindfox makes a new coin, runs his own ipo on polo (they hold all ipo funds until used), and a partial swap of xbc and dcm for the new coin occurs. But I expect Mindfox probably wouldn't be so interested, and people wouldn't be especially interested in an ipo. But that's the only way I see Mindfox being paid for this.

and whales accumulating.

some of the people here must be seriously new to crypto, expecting 2k,3k,4k daily floor rises. Crypto is volatile. Its a roller coaster ride. If you know the coin has true value, HODL it. If you want to panic sell, then go ahead and put it straight to my hand at these never-again cheap prices as Ive still got about 4.7 BTC I want to buy MIN with.

"oh no...why is my coin dropping? Shouldn't things only ever go up,up,up?!? time to panic sell now and buy back in at 3x the price later!"
-crypto noobs

I'm still surprised when I see people complain about falling prices, right after a coin rises 2-3x or more in price. Either they have some bizarre notion that prices go up in a straight line forever, or are simply going the fud route, trying to incite panic. Of course some people will take profit at some point.

Coin pumps, some folks take profit, trolls/fud come out, price lowers a bit .... then assuming no weirdness and dev is active, coin rises again.
1828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why? on: July 04, 2014, 05:10:56 AM
You might as well get used to trolls/fud, as there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about them. Initially when I started here I wondered where was forum moderation, as some trolling goes way overboard... evidently this is a troll feeding ground, close to no moderation whatsoever.

Sometimes trolling/fud is a form of coin tribalism, where people think that by knocking another coin, whatever they invested in will do better. Sometimes it's just part of the game... coin pumps, trolls come out to knock down price... be it because they don't want the coin to do well now that they sold, or they just want to buy back in at a lower rate. It's strangely predictable. I am less surprised now that there is so much trolling/fud, and more surprised at how well it works, seemingly repeatedly.
1829  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution. E-SPORTS BETTING TEST WENT LIVE! on: July 04, 2014, 03:39:56 AM

How do u think about MIN?

Assuming you are asking where I think the price will go? Certainly it can go higher than it currently is. It depends on what the dev delivers, if anon eventually gets added and all of that stuff. I won't ever tell anyone to buy or sell a coin though... just do what is best in your opinion.
1830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution. E-SPORTS BETTING TEST WENT LIVE! on: July 04, 2014, 03:28:44 AM
I think nobody thought this result, we have the betting online, but the value is going down... it weird, I guess I can bought a few 1000's

Not really. Every coin that rises quickly falls back to a certain degree. People simply taking profits. So long as the floor slowly rises over time, it's fine.

People also fall into the habit of buying on rumor and selling on news. Sometimes it works out, sometimes there is additional news/features and they are then sorry. So long as development continues on the coin, I wouldn't worry about any short term drops.
1831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 03, 2014, 05:42:08 PM
Volume is still holding very strong I notice on bittrex. I didn't think it'd keep going at this rate. Cryptsy add the coin yet? If not, I'd expect they must be watching that volume. Not that it matters much with MP, but it can't hurt.
1832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Scene: The Review = Spoetnik Approved™ ? on: July 03, 2014, 04:56:27 AM
Well, at least you provided a calm and reasoned retort. If someone points out hypocrisy, it doesn't make them a troll by the way.

As for a thorn in your side, I think you are reading into things a bit too much. The last time I even recall your name mentioned in a thread was where someone was asking to ban you (that strange NEM troll guy) and I was fully against it. And I also pointed out the hypocrisy of that fellow even asking to ban anyone.

I don't dislike... nor like you. I am more bemused if anything else.

As for the topic at hand, I have agreed that the altcoin scene is pretty lousy. Just that there isn't a whole lot anyone can do about it.

Anyone notice how jiapetz removed his reply to my post? Wheres this shitcoin's support now?

I didn't even think jiapetz was back yet. He has seemed pretty good with responding to people, when he can. What was the post and reply even about?
1834  Economy / Services / Re: [Coins Source] *Signature Promotion* Promote Something Positive - Bitcoin & SRCC on: July 03, 2014, 12:35:00 AM
Can you do weekly or have some one escrow ?

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about needing escrow in this case. I'm not quite sure why so many have even asked for it, as besides not being an especially large sum of btc (or src), common sense would kind of dictate it wouldn't exactly be in tk808's best interest to cheat anyone.

MintPal ‏@MintPalExchange  1m
We're about to add a coin that attempted fairer distribution by keeping the source code closed until the POW phase ended.

Too soon? Guess we're about to find about what this ninja add is going to do.

Interesting...

Now curious how high the coin will go before the gambling stuff is even added. Could be tricky if deciding to sell... to sell based on MP pump or wait for new coin stuff in the next day or two. It could very well be a multiple day pump.
1836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 02, 2014, 07:28:11 PM
It would be ideal to launch the E-betting feature after maybe a day we get added to Mintpal. So that we can not only survive the Pump n dump but we will see the true potential for the pricing( 30K easily).
Or around the same time would even work. It may result in a higher pump, but not quite as big a drop-off.

+1

A higher pump may produce a higher dump... imagine you bought 50k at 0.3k and now is 30k, you have 100x your initial investment, many of those will be tempted to dump (at least a small %). you may end with dumpers and bagholders tempted to make some profit.

Yep, also possible. It simply depends on what value the dev adds to the coin. A high pump can equal a big dump, or med. sized drop-off with people holding for hopes of a bigger payoff.

If it does shoot up to 30K in one day, yeah, I'd expect major dumps regardless. That's a pretty big jump. I don't think there is a way around pumps that high.

I realy don’t understand it. This coin had/has so much potantial. The name, the people voting, the initial fanatic honest dev’s (coin-destruction), the interest, Mindfox, Jiapetz, the interest, the limited number, the good working wallet, etc etc. Thats why it’s such a shame this is going on. I say come one people to up the good work again and earn some good money, by making something beautifull, something that changes the future.

I didn't quite get the price drop either initially, but I hadn't been following things here that closely. The timing lines up with DCM pretty well, and the devs going on 'vacation' certainly didn't help --  I don't mean Jiapetz, who went on a real vacation apparently.

Maybe Jiapetz can turn things around a bit when he gets back. Mindfox is a good dev. It's just of course I expect he'll want to get paid for future work.

Even if the devs were simply going for pumps/dumps, trying to milk the coin for all its worth, I would have expected them to stick around for MP. That's the part that confuses me. If a scam, they didn't go all the way... if not, I don't get why they decided to vanish when they did. Unless they make a quick reappearance after it hits rock bottom, then I guess they are going full blown scam.
1839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 02, 2014, 06:12:20 PM
Or devs who dump their stack and leave the coin. So don't vote on MP until e-betting has arrived. And no, it is not FUD, i have enough MIN coins. I am just warning. And why on MP and not on Bittrex? Because the volume will be a lot higher.

The thing about votes, which looks unlikely to matter in Minerals case, is that it does serve a purpose even if a coin isn't eventually added via voting.

Basically it buys a dev time to release whatever features he has planned, IF a coin is moving up nicely via voting. People are less likely to dump a coin if a coin's rank is decent. So I wouldn't tell people not to vote for any coin on MP ... either it buys a dev more time, or it gets added via voting. If the latter, the dev probably wasn't so active to begin with, as it's not like people can vote up a coin to #1 in a few days... it takes weeks/months... and they might as well just go for the pump/dump at that point.
1840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Scene: The Review = Spoetnik Approved™ ? on: July 02, 2014, 06:00:45 PM
Of course the scene looks bad.

We have scammers, we have trolls, people spreading fud, juvenile posts/memes, and close to no forum moderation at all. But so long as you know this, at least you can prepare yourself and be careful. It's a game where you shouldn't trust anyone.

And don't take this as an attack Spoetnik, but someone who compares himself to Goebbels, and goes on bizarre rants/trolling of their own, probably isn't someone who should complain about the altcoin scene. You actually fit in here quite nicely.
