There is almost a million $ worth of bitcoins for sale in the mtgox orderbook below the all time high of 32$. This is not bullish

That's less than one day volume... not such a big deal...
1822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin worse than drugs!!! Friends do not let friends to do bitcoins :-) on: June 14, 2011, 08:09:36 PM
You quit your job? How much you making from bitcoins?

Well.... I have not had a dayjob of 9to5 type, for a few years now. More accurately would be to say, I dissolved a business because of bitcoins.

1823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin worse than drugs!!! Friends do not let friends do bitcoins :-) on: June 14, 2011, 07:53:47 PM
Bitcoin is a horrible invention. It shall be added to a list of banned substances, because it is hugely addictive. Since I first heard about bitcoins half a year ago, I have even stopped playing computer games. All I do is build and maintain those damn mining machines. These machines have taken over my life! My house feels, smells and sounds as a datacenter, my garage can be used for shooting Matrix4 (the scenes with really bad cable management in their ships and lots of blinking light).

I even quit my job because of bitcoins and all I can think about now is bitcoins.

Beware!!!

Friends do not let friends do bitcoins :-)

Is there Bitcoin Anonymous? Maybe they could help me to go cold turkey.

Not in stock, go figure.

Me(2011-6-14 2:13:53)
Hi, I'd like to order 10 cards, please.
Alice He(2011-06-14 01:14:15)
Sorry ,at moment ,we only have the micro sd card and sd card and usb flash drive
Me(2011-6-14 2:14:34)
You're out of the 5970s?
Alice He(2011-06-14 01:14:39)
graphich card is not stock .that is our new item ,we will try to start on Auguest
Me(2011-6-14 2:14:52)
Fuck.

Those scam artists on alibaba probably never had any 5970's in stock. They just operate a bait and switch scam advertising non exiting goods in order to peddle their worthless flash memory products. And if this is an Indonesian company selling 5970's and claiming to have thousands of them in stock, than they are most likely just live a dream of disappearing with your wire transfer into the sunset. They will happily sell you any amount of 5970's for as little as 130$ each. Beware.

1827  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Bitcoins from the UK on: June 14, 2011, 12:51:07 AM
britcoin is very decent, reputable and convenient exchange for us, UK based folks. Surely it got some growth pains and technical issues, but genjix does stellar job sorting these out.

Even though trading is rather thin, it is still very useful. You can post your bids and asks, and if your price is close enough to the market price, chances are that your offer will be taken.
1828  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis on: June 14, 2011, 12:38:25 AM
are we gonna see the price hitting 25 today?  Roll Eyes

Bitcoin is a marathon, not a sprint, have some patience, people.  Cool

this is the one i've been waiting for. huge.

Indeed! The problem with The Economist is that they often a few years ahead of the curve. They've been calling housing bubble burst for a while, since way before it has happened. If history repeats itself it is a few years before bitcoin hits 1 mil US$ parity  Wink

How much hash would that get?

15k£ will get you ownership of 6.5 Ghps worth of 6990 based equipment plus about 5 month of running it. This is after my share is taken. Only recurring (operating) expenses thereafter.

Hypothetically if bitcoins crashed forever the purchaser would still own 65% of the equipment. Would they be able to decided what to do with the equipment? Offer it up as servers/sell it/give you 35% of the depreciated value go owe 100% of the equipment/ other.

In event of 'liquidation' chose one or more of:
- sell it to me (If I make a good enough offer. I will try to offer, on best effort basis, i.e. no guarantees, at least reasonable price for heavy case and some other components which are more difficult to resell/ship)
- flog components on ebay (or elsewhere) yourself, I'd drop-ship at cost. Moreover, I store the packaging and all the stuff coming with components to maximize resale value.
- get me to flog components on ebay (my costs are to be covered)
- collect it in UK (Derbyshire)
- have it shipped to owner, at cost (shipping cases probably will be cost prohibitive, but with the rest of components there should be no problem).

Basically, this is hardware which would be your property, temporarily in my custody. I am prepared to do what's reasonable here.

Hosting it as servers for someone for free or even if compensated, is not reasonable. I do not operate a generic DC. This also means that no remote access will be given to the servers. They will be managed only by me while in my custody.

How to build your own power supply?

The best method I know:

1. Order a "fully modular" PSU.
2. Once it arrives plug in all the proper cables in proper holes on the sides of the PSU
3. Profit!

Could someone tell how many clauses of the US Constitution, percent-wise, are being routinely violated in US? 0, 5, 10, 20, 50?

AFAIK there is no 'Habeas Corpus' in force for a while now while there is no Rebellion and no Invasion.

Now another question.

Could someone tell how many clauses of the US Constitution related to money, percent-wise, are being routinely violated in US? 0, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100?

1833  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin URL handler on: June 12, 2011, 07:37:32 PM
I actually do not give a shit, the slower adoption of bitcoins goes the more time I have to mine a boatload of bitcoins until multinationals take this over.

defxor, there was no hostility from me towards anyone (at least until I am forced into defensive position). All that was proposed is to implement an alternative URI scheme not instead of but as and addition, and alternative. Than this got attacked by tonal zealots because we have no idea what's that tonal shit is.

I do not care. If you do not want to see wisdom in making things simple and intuitive for most lay people, I am not going to push it down anyone's throat, give it decade or two and they will see on their own (or not).

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs.

If anyone demonstrates bigotry here it is you, Luke-Jr. The above definition exactly describes you behaviour and position, not only ITT but in many other discussions as well.  If there was an ignore function on this forum I would use it on you right now. Goodbye.
Um, no. Why don't you read the definition you posted? The only objection to the bitcoin: URI spec has been that it's supposedly too easy for tonal users. There is nothing in it to force or even encourage people to use tonal. I don't mind if people use decimal (though I do consider it a dumb decision), only when people try to force me to use it as well, which is the case here.

Just preserving the above to demonstrate that all this argument was actually about this tonal thing (whatever it is) or absence of it after all. This does make things very clear. You have just invalidated everything you said against alternative URI scheme and demonstrated that the only reason you attack it is that it does not includes your "tonal". Talk about intolerance and tolerance and religious blindness after that.

I actually did not even had a single thought about tonal until this point maybe except a joke I made sometime earlier which suddenly turned to be more relevant that I ever thought it would be.

Could not care less if this tonal 'tihng' is used or not. I do not know what it is and do not want to know. People here including me have been tolerating this tonal nonsense for long time by simply ignoring it and I will continue to do so. But must I say this religious conversion crusade of yours is indeed annoying.

I have got no more time to waste on further discussions with religious fanatics.
1836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin URL handler on: June 12, 2011, 01:22:40 AM
btc://amount:payee@address/message

Now, for the life of me, I fail to see how is this non compliant with relevant RFC. You would have to claim that commonly used http: URI's are non compliant as well to support 'non compliance' argument.
How can you not see how this is non-compliant? Amounts are not usernames; "payees" (whatever those are) are not passwords. Neither addresses nor messages are in any way hierarchial. It also does not make any improvement on the existing URI scheme. Not to mention it isn't backward compatible.
Here is a fledging developer who thinks that existent URI scheme is crap (so do I) and whether he is right or wrong lets encourage his effort to implement an alternative.
The current standard is basically ideal for payments. The only "arguments" that have come up (all fairly recent) are based on bigotry and (to a limited extent) the flawed assumption that everyone will always want to use BTC for pricing (proven recently by many efforts to come up with a new common unit, which the bitcoin: URI scheme spec handles gracefully).

We are going to have to agree to disagree on everything you said in your last post quoted above.

Moreover, it seems that anyone who disagrees with you is a bigot now.

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs. The predominant usage in modern English refers to persons hostile to those of differing race, ethnicity, nationality, inter-regional prejudice, gender and sexual orientation, homelessness, various medical disorders particularly behavioral disorders and addictive disorders and religion or spirituality. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or world views.

If anyone demonstrates bigotry here it is you, Luke-Jr. The above definition exactly describes you behaviour and position, not only ITT but in many other discussions as well.  If there was an ignore function on this forum I would use it on you right now. Goodbye.

1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin URL handler on: June 11, 2011, 11:34:23 PM
Thank you for your fair comments. It seems that there is some misunderstanding, perhaps due to poor communication from btc: (let's call it so, for now) URI scheme advocates.

I'll quote this from the bitcoin wiki URI page:

Quote
the following is taken from wikipedia
Internet standard STD 66 (also RFC 3986) defines the generic syntax to be used in all URI schemes. Every URI is defined as consisting of four parts, as follows:
<scheme name> : <hierarchical part> [ ? <query> ] [ # <fragment> ]
The scheme name consists of a letter followed by any combination of letters, digits, and the plus ("+"), period ("."), or hyphen ("-") characters; and is terminated by a colon (":").
The hierarchical part of the URI is intended to hold identification information hierarchical in nature. Usually this part begins with a double forward slash ("//"), followed by an authority part and an optional path.
The authority part holds an optional user information part terminated with "@" (e.g. username:password@), a hostname (i.e. domain name or IP address), and an optional port number preceded by a colon ":".
The path part is a sequence of segments (conceptually similar to directories, though not necessarily representing them) separated by a forward slash ("/"). Each segment can contain parameters separated from it using a semicolon (";"), though this is rarely used in practice.
The query is an optional part separated with a question mark, which contains additional identification information which is not hierarchical in nature. The query string syntax is not generically defined, but is commonly organized as a sequence of <key>=<value> pairs separated by a semicolon[1][2][3] or separated by an ampersand

The latest modification of btc: scheme, which takes into consideration the fair critique.

This is what I consider the latest and the best and the most compliant btc: URI scheme proposal.

Quote
Here is the latest iteration, we could simply emulate http URI, including "userinfo" part

btc://amount:payee@address/message , where

amount:payee@,  :payee and /message are optional

examples:

btc://19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp
btc://0.02@19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp
btc://19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/OK+RFC
btc://0.00:Vladimir@19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/OK+RFC
btc://50.00@19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/Really+Cool+RFC
btc://50.00:Vladimir@19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/Really+Cool+RFC
btc://0.0000001:Vladimir@19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/Your+RFC+Sucks
btc://100:Vladimir/19bF4Xq2bJwVKzGmbq5pxmkgYkE1KnXngp/I+will+pay+you+monthly?periodic=yes&period=monthly&howmany=12

most existing URI handling code will work with this with minimal (if any) changes

Now, for the life of me, I fail to see how is this non compliant with relevant RFC. You would have to claim that commonly used http: URI's are non compliant as well to support 'non compliance' argument.

There is claim that to be 'compliant' //<whatever>/<whatever> must be somehow hierarchical, but well, we do have bitcoin address as the root of hierarchy, and different messages as sub trees. Nothing wrong here at all.

Now please, do tell me how is this not compliant? Anyone? I must be an old dinosaur who forgot all this stuff ages ago, but I really do not see how this is not 'compliant' and even if it is, little bending of the rules is not such a bad thing, do not bee too dogmatic here and maybe even less nitpicky.

Here is a fledging developer who thinks that existent URI scheme is crap (so do I) and whether he is right or wrong lets encourage his effort to implement an alternative.
1839  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: June 11, 2011, 11:09:35 PM
also unlike gold bitcoin can be 'teleported' over the internet, can be made to be very difficult to find with metal detector, more compact, easier to measure, more difficult to make tungsten fakes, more difficult to misreport amount of it stored at Fort Knox, if public accountability is required. Wow more than one thing goes in favour of bitcoin as compared to gold.

Gold has one thing going for it big time, though, it has many thousands year history as a store of value, definitely not a 2 year old high risk 'maybe fad', but highly speculative too nonetheless.

1840  Economy / Economics / Re: Don't SELL !! on: June 11, 2011, 10:37:06 PM
Do sell guys! SELL SELL SELL. Lower price will cause slower difficulty growth. This is ultimately good for me and most of my customers and those miners who convert fiat into bitcoin via mining. As opposed to those miners who sell most of mined bitcoins to operate and expand or as a fiat making enterprise.
