Bitcoin Killer App: Ponzi Schemes
Ohh this is indeed a killer app, the only questions are who/what will be killed and when.
So far I see only common sense got killed, but surely the list of killee's will expand.

Great plan! But it is almost 2 years too late.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS INVOLVED? There are always risks. The major risks are that pirateat40 or myself will disappear with your funds. A secondary risk is that BS&T stops paying interest.
priceless!

Well, I don't really like the idea of leaving money under the mattress and having only gains from the appreciation, I interested in some interest too while I wait. Is BC a bit too immature and anything offered right now is a bit shady than?
Give it a decade or two, then you'll get it. Meanwhile, sure, whatever floats your boat.

Put your BTC into a reasonably well secured offline wallet (i.e. wallet.dat).
This should be by far the best BTC investment in terms of risk/reward you can do.

i have had a uk cash withdrawal stuck in "requested" status since the 17th, i have contacted them multiple times, and each time they say it will be done, but then don't do it.
You perhaps need to give them some respect first.

I haven't exhaustively searched, but has there been any news on issue number two?
We will make a statement shortly.

What a bunch of children, throwing toys out of the pram. LOL. And mods were the biggest bullies of the bunch with no common sense whatsoever.
The great irony of this statement is that it's still here and you can continue to say it because we mods respect your right to say it. Very true. And I do appreciate this.

But, whatever happens, does happen to the better.

Much more important is who will still have how much 4 years from now when 1 BTC > 10000$. Most of you guys will part with your bitcoins well before that moment, I would think.

Before wasting money on damn lawyers, it might be a good idea to compile the claims and send a letter to Bitcoinica GP with a clear explanation of your position, what money are claimed and what it would take to prevent any legal action (repayment of claims presumably).
I, for example, would definitely first seek an amicable settlement of the matter and only then get serious about legal action.
Vladimir, this is a reasonable advice, however it appears that someone screwed up the legal framework for Bitcoinica (in addition to the well publicised security problems). The information available is conflicting, and the records at the New Zealand company registry appear to have not been updated yet to reflect the takeover (which might end up being even more damaging to the people involved). Don't worry though, we are investigating everything. All the more reasons they have to play nice.

What if the World Bank/IMF decides to create an SDR backed crypcoin run on ASICs and spent billions to install networks? Would it be game-over for Bitcoin?
It is more likely that they send predators to "take care" of every single person on this forum, than they voluntary lose the power of printing nations money.

As I said, paying 3000$ to mitigate some risk of loss of 100$ is just plain insane. Whoever thinks that this is a genius plan needs to think again.

Another "Gimme maney!" wannabe (with a website and contractor vouching for him as a a competitive advantage).
|
|
|
I have neither money nor desire nor need to make any bets. All "bets" I wanted to make are made already (long before most of you heard of Bitcoin for the first time).

[lots of BS skipped] He has now effectively hedged his downward risk. [lots of BS skipped]
This is a new kind of hedge. Let's now borrow at 3000% APR to hedge some insignificant risk. This is some genius hedging here, lets pay 3000$ to remove risk of losing 100$ Right! Here is a simpler option, get idiots greedy brainless "investors" to give you BTC, sell half on open market, keep fiat, pay the rest back to those greedy brainless "investors" in weekly instalments until there is no money left. Now look, no need to waste a few pages to explain some convoluted unworkable and completely pointless scheme. Just one-two sentences and it is all simple and clear.
