Anonymity might help him to avoid criminal prosecution (if anonymity is breached and if there were indeed any crimes commited), however it does not help at all with keeping Limited Liability protection. That's what I mean.

BTW. Most people do not have any clue on how difficult it is to stay anonymous on the net, particularly when there are allegations of crime thrown around.

If he's not incorporated, he can be sued for his personal assets and cash by anyone and everyone who lost bitcoins from this.  I encourage people to take this route once more of his information is revealed, and if he does not fully reimburse every single person who used the service.
MyBitcoin is Limited Liability Company, i.e. owners don't take any liability for company's debts. In this case maximum you can get suing them is corporation's assets.

Not really true in all cases. Limited liability does not protect in cases when some kind of crime is proven. Whether it is fraud, operating a depositary institution without appropriate license or something else. By hiding identity, operator of mybitcoin does not help himself much in this regard too.

1523  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hold your horses. on: August 07, 2011, 07:19:00 AM
I think these washouts are a good thing, at this stage. Those early adopter and early heist and "teenage millionaires" bitcoins need to be redistributed. The lower it goes the better bitcoins get spread out among investors and general public. It is a good thing in my book.

So... do not hold your horses, do panic. The sooner we get a capitulation event the sooner we move on.

Within 3 years 1 BTC goes either to 0$ or to 10k$. Just store it somewhere secure and take a break from listening to all this noise. Get back in 2014 or so.

Bitcoin is a magnet for hackers and crooks

So is cash. Does it come as a surprise?

Pools are the tax authorities, which levy tax on ignorance and lack of knowledge of elementary theory of probability. Kind of like weird reverse lotteries.

That is an odd statement coming from someone who owns a pool  Huh

If truthfulness is odd, than yes it is odd.

But I must also note that pools do provide reduced variance, which could be valuable.
1529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 28, 2011, 06:33:38 PM
Just strike a deal with one/many of many low cost wire transfer/exchange players like xe.com. Pass the discount to customers. Here you go, problem solved. There still will be some fees but much more reasonable than what banks charge. Probably not suitable for sending 20$ but for 500$+ it would do.
1530  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did the programmers of the official bitcoin client release the trojan? on: July 28, 2011, 05:03:30 PM
Oba... how come developers of "grep" (or use almost any other unix program) released a trojan by not including functionality to enable encrypting of the output.

OP, get a life or CompSci education.

1531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Why we no longer accept Dwolla and an open letter to Ben Milne on: July 28, 2011, 04:49:51 PM
Who cares about VC's sabotaging TH funding efforts. We can fund TH with bitcoins.

BTW... losing a lawsuit with fraud related allegations would almost certainly finish Dwoola at this stage. Even a potential of such lawsuit probably devalues Dwoola already.

Here is an idea for TH: sue Dwoola and take 70% of their equity as settlement.

Dwolla went back and altered their account statements, and didn't even notify them?

That's FRAUD. Lawsuit time, guys.

It seems the moat around pool biz is growing. It's rather difficult to start a new one these days.

When you run all your rigs using a dedicated facility, not at home.  Grin
1537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin group on Facebook get taken down? on: July 25, 2011, 04:25:21 AM
OK...I've been into computers since way before there was even such a thing as email via the fidonet backbone...  and I still don't get the hype about facebook...am I really missing something?   ... cuz I still haven't joined.

LOL, And I thought that I am the only one 'not getting' Facebook.
1538  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Professional rig 2000 - I've the same setup but can't keep it cool on: July 24, 2011, 05:57:42 AM
As such it is your responsibility to have qualifiers in your ads and be str8 from the beginning describing your product. Anything else is misleading and exactly the reason why people doubt your claims.
Here, let me link you the product page again.

http://www.bitcoinrigs.com/products/Professional-Rig-2000.html

Let me know which claim is misleading. Where have I been unclear?

Here we go, now we know why we had misunderstanding. My post has been made in context of this thread located on bitcoin.org -> Mining -> Hardware FYI. Your claims are made HERE but somehow in context of your storefront website i.e. miner vs. salesman.

Therefore, I would say that if you claim HERE that your rigs are adequately cooled than IMO it is you are the one who shall surround your claim with all the kinds of qualifiers like "no more than 340 Mhps per core or it melts"  Grin . At the same time my claim along the lines of "not going to work, unless in refrigerated room" stands in context of this thread by itself.

Moreover, I thought it is obvious, that my claim was made in context of this thread, in general, about 3x6990's in such cases. See for example, reference to half year ago. Your biz was not even on-line than yet. It is you who than came here and claimed that I am wrong and brought up your website and sales as arguments.

The original statement I have supported is "you cant cool 3x 6990s in a conventional case." and I still stand by it.

Defence along the lines of "I am not selling mining rigs" in context of this thread is also laughable.
1539  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Professional rig 2000 - I've the same setup but can't keep it cool on: July 23, 2011, 07:42:40 PM
Well..., if I in the first place surround all my statements with all qualifiers my posts would be more like legal papers. Lots can be derived out of the context, though.

IMO running 6990's at 400 Mhps per core is the standard mode for 6990's. As such it is your responsibility to have qualifiers in your ads and be str8 from the beginning describing your product. Anything else is misleading and exactly the reason why people doubt your claims.
