1441  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why would you mine with anything BUT a PPS pool? on: September 01, 2011, 01:21:11 PM
@Graet, Very reasonable post about selecting a pool, I second basically everything you said there.

Somehow, it seems that there is a significant number of irrational miners out there and one cannot count on them acting rationally.

1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ARTICLE] Bitcoin To Collapse? on: September 01, 2011, 01:06:03 PM
There were plenty of warnings on this very forum about dangers of giving your bitcoins for safekeeping to maybitcoin, or to anyone really. Including by yours truly.

And anyone with a brain would not need any warning as this all is just common sense.

If they had 50 million $ in their marketing budget that would be interesting to watch.

With 1 million  (or whatever) of solidcoins in that budget or in other words 0$ marketing budget this is just small hot air bubbles they manage to emanate.

There are at least a dozen of individuals who have enough mining power to  take full control of any of those those othercois at  a whim. They are not doing it because it is pointless. Who would want to waste any electricity on this.

Some people simply find these forums less addictive than others (or have more willpower to resist the addiction lol). Also many "hero" members went on starting various bitcoin related ventures and could be rather busy.

1445  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Mt. Gox signs with Verisign, who are Known Scammers according to Wikipedia on: August 31, 2011, 11:45:05 AM
Mt Gox, would you like to impress us with your security related efforts? Than do ISO 27001 audit certification and maintain it in a good standing. Or something similar to that.

Slapping some image on the website and getting a port scan once or twice a day at a cost of 100$ a year is really nothing more than a marketing ploy to woo unwashed masses.

1447  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: August 31, 2011, 05:24:57 AM
I just want to leave some positive feedback based on my recent experience of dealing with britcoin (see some recent spikes in volume).

While the interface is a bit non traditional the system has done what was expected from it and I am pretty happy customer. Also a little tip, do not think that the market might look a bit shallow comparing to "big" exchanges. Some deep pockets are watching it on both bid and ask sides. If you want to buy or sell just post your offer at a reasonable price and it might just get filled.

Kudos to Jenjix for getting this thing going. Very convenient to use, particularly for those with GBP accounts with one of major UK banks.

Great idea! Will try to attend if possible. Could even consider to present something about my mining experiences, if there is any interest. Not that I am big on public speaking, but hey, there is always the first time.

1449  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Pool hopping... ethical or not? on: August 23, 2011, 12:03:20 PM
Is taking money from a retarded guy ethical?

Is a lioness acting ethically when she kills an antelope?

I guess pool hopping is somewhere between these two.

btw.  'viribus unitis' can be (and has been) a motto (it means 'putting our forces together').  In our case it could be used by a pool Smiley

spiccioli, I am your biggest fun! Thank you for great suggestions.. 'viribus unitis' is now official motto of MMC pool.

It reminds me that episode from "The Big Bang" where they brought Penny to the comic book store for Justice League of America competition.

A lot of people who had BTC denominated liabilities got burned last time when BTC jumped to 30$ from 0.8$.

I am sure that if namecoin "early adopters" have to chose from these two options they would prefer yours. lol
