1841  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will capitalism last forever? on: March 10, 2015, 09:24:03 PM
What do you think? Will capitalism last forever?

Capitalism is the natural way. If I'm good in mammoth hunting and you are good in stone axe making then the most sensible way would be exchanging let's say 0.25 mammoth for 1 stone axe and hand over the tusks to the medicine man for 2 enchantments for you missus and 3 magic beans for the kids... and there you go... you are living in an early form of capitalism Smiley. BTW nowadays besides some more advanced forms of capitalism we are heading back to these early forms aka sustainable models.
1842  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will capitalism last forever? on: March 10, 2015, 09:04:11 PM
Nothing lasts forever. Roll Eyes

Except for capitalism.  Like that other poster said, as longas there are people willing to sell stuff, capitalism will continue to exist
More accurately as long as people are willing to BUY stuff. Forever is a long time though, and already we can imagine that through the popular use of 3d printers (for example) there may come a time where people will no longer need to buy things. Eventually we may even have 'replicators' like in Star Trek.

You will still have to buy some GMO plastic stuff to top up your 3D printer Smiley. You also have to buy the printer unless the state gives that for you but in that case the state have buy it... except if its a full blown communist system where the state owns everything (houses, cars, your computer and food included) and it "leasing" for you in exchange for your hard work Smiley.

Maybe capitalism is crap but who wants to live in a system where the state owns literally everything and rationing those things for you.
1843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could the Federal Reserve Issue Their Own Cryptocurrency? on: March 10, 2015, 08:52:50 PM
They can use the blockchain technology and they can even create some sort of electronic USD where the "mining" gear sits in federal reserve facilities and banks are providing only different wallets for you. Paper notes could be replaced by cold wallets owned by the FED.

The money supply must be infinite I guess if they don't want to make hard forks in every few years Smiley.
1844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea regarding DDoS attacks on: March 10, 2015, 08:31:55 PM
Logging out is a good practice but only matters if someone else has physical or remote access to your own computer.

In a very very simplified nutshell the are three kinds of DDOS.
In the first (most crude) case the attacker keeps overloading the server's Internet connection with meaningless traffic to render that part of the network practically unreachable or to very slow. In this case the attacker not going to see any of to the stuff stored on that server, just clogs the connection.

In the second case the attacker keeps bombing the name servers where the server's DNS record (e.g. 192.168.1.1 = www.whatever.com) being stored.
In this case the server isn't compromised, it still working fine and accessible by IP address (192.168.1.1) but not accessible by it's name (www.whatever.com) and the attacker doesn't even goes close to the server.

In the third case as DeathAndTaxes wrote the attacker keeps bombing some vulnerable spot on the server itself for causing a partial crash to bring down the defences and getting real access to the stuff stored on that machine. In this case doesn't matter if you logged off or not because the attacker can do whatever he/she/it want to do.

BTW going through a firewall isn't that easy as you can see in movies Smiley. I would say no sensible hacker going to tinkering with the firewalls.

What you might referred with the logoff thingy is the case when there is a rat in the datacenter who already (at least) partially compromised the server and eavesdropping for account details. But in that case logging off is irrelevant again as the rat will get full access to your stuff with your already captured logon details. (BTW keyloggers, trojans and some viruses are working on a more or less similar way.)

Those logon attempts from outside the USA are quite common things as a lot of script kiddies are randomly trying to get access to FB, Google and Yahoo accounts by using some trivial passwords like 1234, password, Password1, the account name itself and so on. If you have a good password and you keep changing it regularly you can safely ignore these alerts.
1845  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: March 10, 2015, 04:57:43 PM
It's sexist to insult others with the term "Femnazis". This thread started asking if you were interested in donating and you reply with insults. I have no reason to reply to you here and if you wanna talk to me do it in PM. Ignored.

I must disagree. Stating someone's putative or real ideological background isn't sexist. Accusing someone with lying and profiteering also not sexism and not even an insult.
1846  Other / Politics & Society / Re: woman's gym membership revoked for complaining about sex pervert in locker room on: March 10, 2015, 01:13:57 PM
IMO in this case the gym is at fault. Not just as Twister said, everybody can pretend to be woman inside, but they seems to ignore the demands of their conservative (or shy) customers for the sake of being PC. BTW they should inform their customers better about the policies and then the customers can decide if they like that or not. Maybe small private change rooms within the locker room could be a good idea.
1847  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Beta test a simple automated bitcoin exchange + giving away 2 BTC + No beta fees on: March 10, 2015, 12:47:43 PM
I'm thinking about integrating Clef (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=965220.0), What do you think?

Clef is an awesome stuff, but it's quite new with little practical experience about it. In the beginning I'd use it only alongside other more mature 2fa methods as one of the options. If you are in the middle of developing your own stuff you might not want spending time on troubleshooting other things.
1848  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Article: The East India Company: The original corporate raiders on: March 10, 2015, 12:13:46 PM
I believe the church pre-dates the East India Trading company by several thousand years, I know many religious people here wouldn't regard them as a corporation but when you consider how many non-christian countries they tried to dismantle and take over and the way they did it I'd disagree.

Church isn't a good example. They rarely acted on their own. From the beginning the church used to be involved on the request of the secular authorities. The king or whatever boss asked the church to be involved as "spreading the light of faith" sounds better than "Let's go there and grab their stuff". (Today these bosses using the word "democracy" instead of "faith".) BTW IMO this practice goes back to the first shaman who started looking for signs and omens and blessed the stone axes and clubs of the tribe before they raided their neighbours.
I think the vikings were the only honest raiders in history. No BS just pure plundering Smiley.
1849  Economy / Services / Re: [BOUNTY] .1 BTC [W] HELP WITH RUNNING DYING LIGHT ON PC on: March 10, 2015, 10:01:20 AM
That game sucks mate. Techland forgot to optimize it for basically anything Smiley. BTW have you tried Dying Light manager?

You might wanna check out this thread on Steam (download link and Virustotal analysis in the OP over there):

1850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Technology use in biohazard access restriction? on: March 09, 2015, 09:56:32 PM
Well organized companies are already using multisig since ages. Mostly on paper, or in person but nowadays even as work-flow applications.
1851  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Article: The East India Company: The original corporate raiders on: March 09, 2015, 09:24:43 PM
I'm surely a lowlife scum but I'd buy in Smiley. EIC had a vision, a mission and the determination to achieve these goals.

BTW I think the bitcoin community could raise enough funds to take over some not very well developed smaller countries in Africa with a lot of natural resources...
Hmmm? What do you think about the Honourable West Africa Company on Havelock or on NXT AE Wink?
1852  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 08:59:06 PM
If Bitcoin becomes the world currency, then there will be people with, for example, 17-200 microbitcoins. I don't see that changing anytime soon, but, by definition, those people will be using Bitcoin as well as everybody else.

Some people believe that Bitcoin is the solution to world poverty. I don't know where these people got that idea in the first place.

I'm trying to imagine as someone with 17-200 microbitcoins paying the 0.0001 BTC transaction fees after each transaction. Parallel I'm trying to imagine as we are trying to persuade the miners to accept lower fees... especially after one or two halving

I second that. Bitcoin is a payment protocol not a remedy for inequalities.
1853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 08:43:18 PM
...and like it or not, this game is already over.

I don't see what makes you think so. Anyone can start using Bitcoin. There's nothing stopping them, except the fact that they don't know about it.

Yes, anyone can start using it, but please don't forget that the large majority of the world population getting something between 17-200 (no mistyping that's really seventeen) USD per month. You can find (at least one) such countries even in Europe where 1 BTC at current rate worth more than a monthly average salary. I have some doubts about how these ppl can get into bitcoin.
1854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 08:30:02 PM
You have a point, the term "elite" can be defined in a couple of different dimensions. I think what the OP was going for was whether Bitcoin for the 1%ers or the most powerful or the well off in the developed nations only. On the face of it bitcoin is available to almost everyone in this world, provided they have:

  • Access to the internet (via pc, phone, etc.)
  • Access to ANY amount of fiat currency, even the smallest denomination of the weakest fiat currency can buy you some bitcoin

It might be up to us, the bitcoin community, to ensure that access to the system remains available to as many people as possible so we don't run into the same debt cycle issues we have with fiat.

I see your point but I'm afraid it's already too late. Maybe I'm wrong but I often feel that the whole BTC universe is controlled and manipulated by a few whales. But perhaps this is just paranoia Smiley.
1855  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 08:17:32 PM
Voted for elite only. I don't like this, but this is the reality.

This is why the question in the poll says “should be”, not “is”.

"Should" doesn't really mean anything when the game is already over Smiley. ...and like it or not, this game is already over. Without a very substantial investment nobody can reverse the "trend". Who can make such an investment...?
1856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Is Bitcoin for EVERYONE or just a new ELITE? Vote! on: March 09, 2015, 07:33:24 PM
Voted for elite only. I don't like this, but this is the reality. Cca 90% of the world population are unable to use it and 90% of the internet users doesn't really care. If you take a look at the BTC distribution you will see that most coins are concentrated in very few hands. These factors are inevitably going to lead (or already led) to the formulation of a small elite who owns most bitcoins.
1857  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make money on this forum on: March 09, 2015, 04:14:58 PM
i think i'm getting a dejavu here

faucets, signature campaign ecc....

or you can start your own business and get payed in bitcoin

99% of the businesses here goes tits up in a few weeks or months, but who knows. Mandatory reading: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=124441.0 Old stuff but mostly still valid.
1858  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make money on this forum on: March 09, 2015, 04:01:47 PM
Take a look at the Service board and try to find a signature campaign what accepts Newbie, Jr. Member, Member level users (and there are open slots). (These noob campaigns are usually not paying very much and some of those are not very reliable but still better than nothing.)
Write a lot of meaningful posts to reach the Full Member level. On this level you can join some better paid campaigns.

Sometimes you can get some BTC or other free stuff in the Games and rounds board (under gambling).
Please note that "free" BTC in the gambling section is rarely free.

You might wanna take a look at the altcoin announcements sometimes they are giving away stuff for free.

If you have some "sellable" skills you can try to get some smaller tasks (and bounties).

If you have some unwanted stuff you can sell it on the Marketplace.

Sometimes check out the Project development board for paying beta tests.

Keep your trust rating clean.

You can try faucets but IMHO that's wasting time.

Don't do:

Don't bring up ancient topics without a good reason. Vod and Co. will think you are just spamming for activity farming (you can get negative trust.)

Don't ask for loans (especially without a good collateral) because of those guys in the Lending board are grumpy ppl, so you will get only negative trusts instead of BTC.

Avoid the "Investor-based games" sections as this is a PC name for ponzi schemes.

Gambling: don't go there if not necessary Smiley.

Do not invest into the latest and greatest stuff "with great investment potential"

Avoid IPOs, ICOs, ITOs. Those bastards in the Securities and Altcoin sections are all scammers. (OK, not all but 99%)

On the altcoin board do not believe a single word even when they are asking questions.

1859  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hundreds Of Big Companies Urge Supreme Court To Back Gay Marriage on: March 09, 2015, 02:48:12 PM
That looks something from some really bad Muslim country, or ISIS, people are seriously trying to pass this in California?
yes its real and it might be the only thing the muslims are right about. sodomy is a plague on civilisation.

Actually more like a safety function by Mother Nature. In groups of rats there is a known correlation between population density and behavioral anomalies. Humans can cope better with stress and unwanted social contacts but there are still a number of deflexions what eventually will lead to a decline in numbers. BTW if your naturally born competitors fu**ing each other instead of competing with you that's good for you Smiley. Isn't it ?
1860  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I publish my book for Bitcoin? on: March 09, 2015, 10:06:55 AM
Using the NXT marketplace is a relative easy way to publish an ebook. Besides Amazon you might wanna try that too.

https://nxtforum.org/ebooks/

I doubt a lot of people actually visit the NXT marketplace, and in a way it will probably lead to lesser number of sales

That's why I said "Besides Amazon you might wanna try that too" On more place to sell shouldn't hurt Smiley.
