1881  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stopped caring about the price and why you should too on: May 04, 2013, 10:18:52 AM
I feel like it is going to sort of normalize around its present value, maybe a bit less, for a while, probably a few years even. It will seem like a loooooooong time if you are checking gox every 5 min.s thats for sure, and kind of boring day trading when the spread normalizes and the price just kinda hangs there. And Bitcoin aint no messiah either, its just money 2.0, and money 2.0 is still just money after all. i think a lot of us here need a hobby besides computers.
1882  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will PayPal really use bitcoin? on: May 04, 2013, 10:07:42 AM
maybe he's been lurking these boards and has seen how many people are eager to buy btc with paypal.  Cheesy
1883  Economy / Speculation / Re: $90 is strong support level according to Google Trends on: May 04, 2013, 06:36:16 AM
the price will not fall unless users' interest in Bitcoin will continue to decrease.

or put more simply: "The price will not fall below $90 unless it does."
agreed, or not.
1884  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall of Fame: Quotes of Bold Predictions on: May 04, 2013, 06:35:19 AM
in 20 years btc could be as much as 2x todays price. or not.
1885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im fairly confident the NSA (US Gov) Can 51% Any Coin At Any Time on: May 04, 2013, 03:12:27 AM
The american intelligence agencies have no incentive to bring down bitcoin. Unless the NSA receives an executive order to kill bitcoin, they simply won't do it.
& the CIA's jurisdiction is outside the USA. If anything, they would benefit from BTC because they can do all manner of covert payola ops to foreign bad guys and the like. If Ollie North had btc he would have never got caught. my guess is they already have btc and are looking to move it on to all the shifty terror groups they do business with on a daily basis. crime pays, especially if you the gubmint!
1886  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin going to be between $50-$75 US tomorrow. :( on: May 04, 2013, 03:03:08 AM
good. got my buy orders at 50, 60, and 75. will see how it pans out.
1887  Economy / Speculation / Re: the real reason btc is dropping on: May 03, 2013, 10:22:49 PM

gawker dot com -_-  I'm surprised they didn't try to pin the blame on endemic patriarchal racism.
1888  Economy / Speculation / Re: MTgox add litecoin in 2 month ? on: May 01, 2013, 05:23:22 PM
LiteCoin is like a new major IPO to be released in the market, which pretty much guarantees profit (most of the time) to early adopters. It will surely be dumped immediately once it approaches 100% - 300% return for the early adopters as they cash in. I see it going $10 on day 1, possibly $15-$20 in a week then MEGA DUMP back to $4-$7, on the long run it will keep going up as long as BTC stays on a stable upward trend.

I think there is great potential with litecoin, BTC-e's deposit methods are v restrictive which makes it difficult for most to invest.

it has already surpassed 300% for early adopters. if you got in before march you have already made a lot. problem is; its just a copy of btc with holes in it and there is no development behind it to improve upon it. their own wiki states it is a pump and dump scheme. not cool guys.

however, i own a small amount, purchased at 4 cents, and i will hold and see. the fools could help me translate my already huge gain into even more gain which i will then convert to btc. if it tanks i wont lose a penny cuz i already cashed out my original investment.

if you want to emulate this process, buy into ppcoin now. after the manipulators are done raping ltc to death, they will do the same thing to ppcoin (then ftc, then nmc, then w/evercoin)
1889  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any ideas on what the manipulators are planning? on: April 30, 2013, 11:03:19 PM
I would imagine the scenario that OP suggests is happening in the market would have the manipulators focusing on the smaller alt-coins like feathercoin, ppcoin and litecoin. they would be easier to manipulate, some say the recent spike in LTC is due to this, but I believe it is more likely due to the vague mt.gox announcement that they will introduce it sometime possibly soon.

In the long run, manipulation means nothing because it is increasingly difficult to do as the market grows, look at forex. impossible to manipulate short of starting a world war. hold your coins. you will regret the x number of fiat dollars you might gain by daytrading and depleting your stash of crypto when the day comes that you can do any and all monetary transactions with it, and has thousands of times as much purchasing power as it does today.
1890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canada Taxing Bitcoin Transactions on: April 30, 2013, 10:21:39 PM
and, revenue canada will only be able to tax bitcoiners at the point of fiat-to-btc, or bitcoin-to-fiat exchange. Dont use the exchanges and you wont be visible to them.

gotta go change my avatar to the canadian tire money scottsman now ;-)
1891  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Canada Taxing Bitcoin Transactions on: April 30, 2013, 10:17:58 PM
I'm excited to see how they're going to pull it off.  I mean, if it's a measly "You should do it", I see many issues springing up in the future; they may not know who's avoiding taxes, but they'll see clear as day taxes are being avoided.  Then they have fire power to campaign against the use of Bitcoin.

That's not the way our government works. They cannot outlaw bitcoin. We have the right to private property and there is a long standing coupon called "Canadian Tire Money" that is widely used. If you look at the development of Canada's banking and money you will see many private coupons. These were all legal.

"Canadian Tire Money" cannot be converted to Canadian $$$...
So it's not a currency... it's just a discount coupon.

I've used canadian tire money at 3 different places that accepted it on par. A bar and 2 cafes. The owners had work to do on their bricks and mortar business and gladly accepted the Canadian Tire bux. Also I have seen pawnshops that will buy them at a percentage of face value. The older denominations (half cent, third-of-a-cent, discontinued in the 70s) are highly collectible and worth quite a bit. Its one of my fav alt-currencies, although, I believe they discontinued it a few years back, didn't they?

I still have a 5 cent can tire note in my wallet, and when I'm traveling I like to troll new friends from foreign lands by showing it to them and telling them the guy pictured on the reverse is "The King of Canada; Angus McTavish" good for teh lulz!
1892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: some more dark scenarios on: April 30, 2013, 10:09:52 PM
maybe this board could use a "Blogs" section. possibly a "Tin Foil Hats" child-board, or a "butthurt ranting lounge"

personally, I'm about 1000x more cautious about what links I click these days.

can you take that outside please?
1894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin snack machine (fast transaction problem) on: April 30, 2013, 10:02:25 PM
Even better than an escrow, you just fund the beverage machine company itself.

Like this: you go to the company's website and send them 100 BC.  Then, they give you an ID.  They have plenty of time to get confirmations to build, and when you need a beverage you just use the ID they issued you and they debit it from your account.

5/10 - this prohibits "impulse sales" which are HUGE in snack and beverage industries.
1895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF - Kiddy Porn in the Blockchain for life? on: April 30, 2013, 09:57:27 PM
this whole issue reminds me of when people deface paper money. I've seen some fairly NSFW stuff written on bills before, most people ignore it and simply "pass the buck" It's just vandalism after all. Some butthurt is jealous they weren't very early to adoption so now they want to smash out the windows. ignore and will go away.
1896  Bitcoin / Project Development / An Idea For A Bitcoin Service. on: April 30, 2013, 09:25:03 PM
There is much talk about the user-UN-friendly aspects of bitcoin, difficulties with wallet use, security, general tech-UN-savvy-ness amongst most non-geek users (or wanna-be users) and the boards here are full of "OMG my BTC disappeared" and "WTF is going on?" etc which only proves how difficult using the clients and network can be for the uninitiated. The members on the boards here are pretty good at resolving problems, but when someone is panicking about lost or missing BTC, or having problems with their wallet... they get pretty urgent with their requests for help. I'm maybe a 5.5/10 on the tech-savvy side, so I've had my fair share of blips and burps using the system, there's always a moment of cold sweat and white knuckles before I can get my problems resolved. This is a major hurdle for the bitcoin community to get over if mass adoption is to proceed. People will not put their money into something they can't understand and therefore don't trust... so here's my idea.

A live, real-time, actual-human-on-the-other-end, 24-hour phone "help-desk" service. Like "dial-a-geek" only not useless and for bitcoin tech solutions only. It would be a paid subscription service and be available to hold the hands of n00bs while they get accustomed to using this new currency.

I know many of you on this board are into computers and tech in a BIG way, and I have encountered "geek-snobbery" occasionally here, but for people like say, my old nana, who want to be able to use the btc but can barely send emails, this could be very effective. See "social networking for senior citizens" and "facebook for golden age" type workshops that are offered at community centers across the country here (I live in N America) Technology can be intimidating to the uninitiated, and often leaves them watching from the sidelines.

Someone should develop this idea, you can have it for free, please make a fortune from it! feel free to tip me later if it pans out ;-)
1897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction Shows On blockchain - Nothing In Wallet. on: April 30, 2013, 08:28:19 PM
A Voila. Everything is good now. Thank you sir. I can rest easily now.
1898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction Shows On blockchain - Nothing In Wallet. on: April 30, 2013, 08:18:13 PM
client is totally synced too.

If it shows confirmations on Blockchain.info it definitely should be appearing with your Bitcoin-Qt client as well.

Try launching your client with -rescan.

is that the same as "reset blockchain and transactions"? I am using the latest version of MultiBit.
1899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Transaction Shows On blockchain - Nothing In Wallet. on: April 30, 2013, 07:28:49 PM
I withdrew 5.75746472 BTC from LibertyBit last night at 04:57:39 on april 30th, has 91 confirmations, says "transaction complete" at my "history" page on libertybit site, but there is no 5.75746472 in my wallet. I did 2 much smaller withdrawals right after at 08:53:43, and 09:28:15 also from libertybit to the same wallet address (which is 12SsGTcnJeBKtz2GKSaUFqXzXfu6QdE66X btw) and only the 09:28:15 one actually arrived in my wallet. so 2 large transactions never made it to me... then later, a very small transaction makes it into my wallet, same address, same sender, I can't figure it out! I can see everything looks normal in the blockchain, it shows all three transactions, but I am missing 2 of the payments in my wallet. could a transaction REALLY take over 19 hours to arrive in my wallet? LibertyBit is zero help with this one. I would be freaking out if the blockchain info was not all ok, so I'm pretty sure I was not hacked, but I would like to understand exactly where my BTC is. Right now I am missing $884! please help me.

http://blockchain.info/address/12SsGTcnJeBKtz2GKSaUFqXzXfu6QdE66X the newest transaction is the only one of the top 3 here that I actually recieved into my multibit wallet.

client is totally synced too. Like I said above, I have recieved BTC from same sender to same address LATER than the two larger transactions which I am still waiting for. what the heck is going on? is it because libertybit doesn't pay any fee on the transaction?
1900  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How F$%#in' Long Does It Take LibertyBit Canada To Send Me My Coins??? on: April 30, 2013, 08:27:37 AM
Have contacted libbybits can. and informed them of their poor business practices, up to and including being too cheap to spend the pennies it would cost them to pay transaction fees off the top of their obscenely overpriced and fairly shite services. Please canadian bitcoiners, i implore you! Make some competition for these weasels up here. need badly! wrse than 51% stuff...is monopoly!
