1901  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [InDev] [ANN] The revival of BitVegas - BTCVegas on: April 21, 2014, 06:44:13 PM
Hey guys, Untitled here. I'm one of the people working on the BTCVVegas project and I also happen to be making the texture pack.

I've got an alpha of the resource pack up here if you want to download it and look around our WIP Casino. I'm working off the original BitVegas resource pack here so if you dig through the files you might find some aspects of it still identical to the BitVegas pack. I'm working to make it more unique and it's going pretty quickly, but that's something to keep in mind.

You can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sf7vkd819aeweo6/BTCV.zip

I look forward to seeing you all on the server!

//Untitled

Confirmed, this is the official BTCVegas texture pack and is required to make it look correct.

EDIT: Texture pack is now auto-install.

1902  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [InDev] [ANN] The revival of BitVegas - BTCVegas on: April 21, 2014, 06:29:18 PM
Thank you to all of those who have shown their support in the BTCVegas project so far.

We are currently running on the VPS of a member who would be staff but has instead decided to opt out and become a VIP. Note that no funds will be kept on that VPS so you do not need to trust him, his identity will be kept a secret unless he decides to reveal it.

As of now I have lifted the whitelist on the server, you can connect by connecting to the server IP "starbound.li". Your Minecraft must be updated to the latest version. We have tried to make the beta design as simplistic as possible, so you should not experience any lag! No game plugins are currently running so the only function of the server at the moment is to give you an idea of what BTCVegas will be like Smiley

Again, the IP is starbound.li. The official texture pack for BTCVegas (inspired by BitVegas, some of BitVegas' old textures currently still reside in the texture pack but it will soon be removed) will soon be posted below, so you can see what it will look like - connecting to BTCVegas without the texture pack will result in you seeing a lot of randomly placed blocks.
1903  Other / Meta / Re: Why I am turning my back on bitcointalk. It just doesnt work anymore. on: April 21, 2014, 05:37:14 PM
In my honest opinion you can condense the problems that bitcointalk faces into three things.

First, spam. By "spam" I mean, not only signature advertisements, but just the general influx of spam from the removal of newbie jail, etc. Secondly, scams. Take a look at the Lending section. We need some regulation and badly, we need guidelines made, we need moderators put in place. Every day people are being scammed and the section is filled with pages of loan requests from people who are here simply to scam. Lastly, trolls. This is pretty similar to my first point but trolls fill this forum and we desperately need more mods from all timezones to handle this.
1904  Economy / Lending / Re: [EDU] The Rule of "No Collateral, No Loan" on: April 21, 2014, 05:34:17 PM
This needs to be a sticky and will avoid a lot of clutter here. The genuine loan seekers get lost in all this shit.

In fact I would go one step further and ban the user who are all like "oh but I would never ever ever cheat some one cross my heart and its for the dying people of coinistan", etc. No collateral needs to be enforced just like the No giveaways rule and the "reserved" posting rule. I'm all for reducing nightmares Smiley

I agree. Even if it is not a forum rule, it could be a section rule.
All requests for a loan without a collateral, should be closed. If a user insists with these kind of requests, must be banned.
More than the 90% of the posts in this section is currently pure garbage.
CC.

Or maybe create split on the loans section. It could be like the Marketplace in bitcoins and the other marketplace inside the altcoin subsection. Only in this case the two would be residing in the same section. One where altcoins for collateral is compulsory. The other one can be non-alt coins and other electronic/physical goods for collateral or even without collateral. That would keep the first section full of genuine quality posts and the other one the shady place with scammers where you tread at your own risk and people who want to risk lending can still do so if they want to gamble for out of this world returns. Then there would be no excuse for posting a no-collateral post on an altcoin collateral only section. It can simply be moved to that section without deleting no?

Raise your suggestion in the Meta section. I do think that would work, but obviously I am not an admin and telling your ideas to me won't make anything happen.
1905  Economy / Lending / Re: Need small coin ( 0.04 Retrun 0.05 ) on: April 21, 2014, 04:53:49 PM
You just needed a 2 BTC loan, now you only need 0.04 BTC - I'm pretty sure you're just trying to scrape up whatever BTC you can from bitcointalk. If you have an $80 VPS and it can be sold for $50, then go sell it for that and buy 0.1 BTC with the cash.
1906  Other / Meta / Re: May I know the criteria of being a Moderator ? on: April 21, 2014, 04:51:31 PM
Not being DiamondCardz probably is also one.

Well yes, if you were me you wouldn't be a mod because I'm not a mod, makes sense, no?
I think that he was answering to the topic title.
So in a way, he's saying that you can never be a mod.

I'm aware, I was just answering his "statement" in a way that makes his troll posts look ridiculous.

1908  Other / Meta / Re: May I know the criteria of being a Moderator ? on: April 21, 2014, 03:23:14 PM
Your success rate doesn't actually matter all that much. If you're above 60%, we'll teach you the rest once you become a mod. As long as you can maintain that, quantity of reports is much more important than quality. Specifically, we're looking for people who report things during time periods where the reports aren't immediately acted on, because that indicates a need for additional moderators for that time block. People who report things during those time are far more likely to be chosen, and you're more likely to report during those times if you report more in general.

This really makes sense. I am from an Asiatic country, so probably most of the global moderators are not from this time zone. I'm being more precise about the report count... 17 posts reported till date with 100% accuracy. I think this quantity is low compared to the requirement. Its good if I get to know the requirement bar for the quantity of posts ...Thanx.

I'd imagine that the moderation team would be looking for people with report counts that are in the 3-digit area, that make reports fairly frequently, not just 1 a week for 3 years.
1909  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [InDev] [ANN] The revival of BitVegas - BTCVegas on: April 21, 2014, 03:20:37 PM

Server will be ran on a small VPS at launch as it seems we have not gathered enough interest for any sale of ranks yet, so we will need to rely on rake. It's likely rake will be higher than 1%, maybe 2% or so. At launch we predict interest will not be as great as BitVegas was at it's peak so we will predict a cap of about 15 players.

Q: "OMG YOU'RE GOING TO GET DDOSED"

A: If we get DDoSed we will deal with it as it comes. Withdrawals will continue as usual if a DDoS occurs.
why am i banned? i haven't even logged in before.

That was accidental and nothing to do with the current staff team. However we are currently on whitelist so you can't access the server.

Anyway guys, we may lift the whitelist today or tomorrow so you can preview the BTCVegas beta design Smiley

Now that's a face I'd trust with my Bitcoins:

On-topic though, OP, how can you guarantee that you wouldn't just recover the wallet?

Why should Members and below be blocked from having a signature because people are spamming due to signature ads?

Damn.  You broke the streak.  If not for your two posts, I was going to have 100% ignored posts on page 14.

Ah, unfortunately, that's what I'm here to do. However this proves my point: If the vast majority of page 14 is being ignored by you and the vast majority of page 14 is by people with signature ads, surely there is a correlation between signature ads and low-quality posting?

...Or possibly he just ignores everyone with a signature advert?

That's my point, because signature adverts will in most cases create spam...

1914  Other / Meta / Re: Can someone please tell me why did I get banned on: April 21, 2014, 12:14:48 PM
some of them get banned for proper reasons I assume but as I see people who post much lower quality posts then I do they keep posting and posting
that means they didn't get banned I guess Cheesy

there should be a rule for banning people for low quality posts because as I said spam and this isn't the same..

instead of posting this shit I could of spammed people with my referral link and got around 30 referrals for the same time ban lol
I would of probably even got less lol

I did not know that is not allowed how could of I then avoided it?

I'v seen people posting like that all the time, if someone told me it's wrong I wouldn't do it
Even your english and writing skills are low quality. I'm not gonna point out your mistakes here but let me highlight something.
If you actually read threads around here you would have known this yourself.
Also there is this:
Some guidelines:
2. No zero value posts or threads, like "SELL SELL SELL"

well excuse me, english is not my first language

2. I never make posts like that

And you're still evading your ban...

When I first heard this word I used google translate to find it's meaning, it said it had the same meaning as avoiding
I assumed it's something like trying to get unbanned

I'm just complaining about the ban, rather then requsting it to be denied

but 14 days without a single warning first?

isn't that excessive use of force Cheesy

I mean it's too much...

I could of at least got a warning, 2 weeks is a huge period
I had no idea I was doing anything wrong the whole time, if someone warned me, I would of stopped
but this way, the only thing I learned is never leave the off-topic or you're going to get banned..

Ban evasion means you're dodging your ban by making new accounts. Usually it gets your new account banned and your original ban extended. And after being banned for ban evasion, you're doing it again - bad idea.

No, not all, but I do agree there should be criteria put in place (information, etc.) rather than some of the 10 word loan requests we get which are basically spam.
1916  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 2 BTC. Return 2.2 BTC on: April 21, 2014, 11:13:19 AM
You have a brand new account and you're asking for a $1,000 loan - just backtrack and think about that. $1,000 is a decent amount of cash.

Refer to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.0

It is a sticky, yes. Now I wouldn't ban users who do that but I do support actually moderating the Lending section and putting criteria in place for a loan, and deleting clear scams (sympathy loan scams etc.) instantly. Posts that clearly ignore the criteria could also be deleted just as the Giveaway threads are. Of course until theymos sees the issue in the Lending forum, that's not gonna happen.
1918  Other / Meta / Re: Can someone please tell me why did I get banned on: April 21, 2014, 11:02:58 AM
but it's not in the forum rules

I'v read only this

Quote
FORUM RULES
NO SPAM
NO BEGGING (AKA ASKING FOR BITCOINS)
NO REFERRAL LINKS

and I have taken it quite literally, I abided those rules for over 6 months I was here
law is taken literally, not by common sense
forum rules are some sort of law Cheesy

and it's not really a low quality post I simple answered the question asked in the thread  Undecided

"No Spam" is basically a wide term for "No annoying/stupid/low-quality posts". I also doubt you were banned for just 1 low-quality post, more like lots over a period of time.
1919  Other / Meta / Re: Can someone please tell me why did I get banned on: April 21, 2014, 10:49:31 AM
OP you seriously just need to cool down and accept that you were banned for spam. Pulling the "OMG IT'S NOT THE EXACT WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION THEREFORE IT'S NOT SPAM EVEN THOUGH IT ANNOYS EVERYONE" does not work.

I am cool, I didn't even get annoyed the slighest bit altough I got banned for 30 days for no reason

and got a permenent suspension on my other account

others would get really pissed Cheesy

I lost 0.6BTC because of the ban and still I'm not annoyed

I am just seeking for justice

everyone posts posts like that, it may annoy you but everyone is doing it, then everyone in the off-topic should be banned since in every thread there are around 7-8 posts exactly the same

People do get banned, there just isn't a massive ---BANNED--- header above someone's name if it happened. I guarantee you that if you're the only person on bitcointalk to be banned for this...you wouldn't be banned.

It's common sense, really. When someone sees those lower quality posts it'll probably be dealt with by a mod.
