cashed out my BTC purchase at the (frankly, overpriced) Libertybit canada site. Transaction "completed" "verified" yadda yadda yadda. looked at blockchain... 4 hours later... wtf? four hours seems a little extreme. Is blockchain that slow? blockchain info says it went thru. not in my wallet. address the same on blockchain. seems odd to me. plus i want my 5.768 or w/ever btc i bought fair and square. fucken sketchy dudes, maybe a "long con" cuz i usually have ok bussiness relations w/ them (despite the price gouging) but still. according to blockchain its legit. am I that n00bish that I've never seen a "confirmed" transaction take >4 hours? EDIT; gf tells me its only ~2 hours (4Loko dontchaknow) still. says everything is completed according to their "contact us"-free website. Should I have known better, or am I merely impatient?

don't they make prisoners gold farm in china? if so, the govt. officials are obviously using virtual currency. ofc, they most likely claim none of this ever happens, thus bs press releases etc. they put out propaganda (lies) that suggest their human rights policies are fair too.

I will close my TD account this week citing their unwarranted hostility towards Bitcoin as the reason.
just empty the account and leave it. Assholes at TD try to charge you 60$ to close account.

Royal Bank Canada and TD bank in Canada are two banks I used to do business, years ago. Both offered such miserable service (high fees, surley staff, at the very least 20 min. lineups) that i quit both and found infinitely better service at BMO (bank of montreal) I rarely wait more than 5 min. in line, the staff is friendly and eager to please, their fees are minimal. After moving to BMO I cannot believe ANYONE would do business with the other losers. TD even told me, when I removed all my money from them and asked them to close my account, that there is a SIXTY DOLLAR FEE TO CLOSE ACCOUNT! WTF? ? I simply left 3 cents in the account and abandoned it. I guess TD sees this as a 3 cent win, but they will NEVER get the slightest endorsement from me, to the extent that when doing business with clients that use TD I recommend they switch. Absolutely one of the worst financial institutions ever. The only reason I can think that anyone still goes there is; some people WANT their bank to lord it over them and treat them like dirt because it makes them feel secure, or something.

if you mean "givaways" then use the off topic section.
if you mean charity. then search bitcoin100
there's a masters student from U of Nottingham giving out ~0.04 BTC if you complete a simple cognitive excercise (looking at and judging the expressions on photos of faces) Its tough to get a handel on proper wallet usage without a little BTC in there to see if you're backing up and transacting properly.

I heard him talking about how he holds several patents on other alt-currencies. somehow I can't see a centrally controlled crypto being quite as attractive as the mighty BTC, but the guy likes to be forward thinking. just look at his haircut!

I feel bad for these guys. It (obviously) must really hurt to be stuck on the sidelines watching powerlessly as the rest of us get wealthier and wealthier.

I got the same email, except the one I got started; "Hey Faggots, My name is John, and I hate every single one of you..."

millibits rolls off the tounge easiest IMHO. If you have ever had to convert from Imperial Measurements to the Metric System, as I did in grade 3 (Metric was officially adopted and taught in schools here in Canada when I was in grade 3) you can quickly adapt. It is very simple. I see the division of bitcoin units to be very much "metric money"
There is a reason metric is the standard system for precision engineering.

It's a series of pictures of people's faces, you have to rate what their expression is on a scale of ten, things like "sad" or "angry" I have participated in psych studies like this before, when I was in college. They pay quite well considering how little work they are. Took me about 20 min yesterday, woke up with the money waiting this morning. +legit.

I will continue to petition them via my method of never buying their product.

I was thinking on similar lines last night. especially... the very early history and the core of earliest adopters. http://blockchain.info/charts/n-unique-addresses?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=as this chart shows, until ~ july 2010 there were very few unique bitcoin addresses. The small group of developers who were the entire bitcoin economy until then would most definitely have some interesting stories; I am sure most of them are here, and I couldn't blame them if they opted to remain anons, still, if you really want to understand a system, you should go back to its genesis and early steps. I also like the analysis of how the very notion of virtual currency comes from video games. And how MtGoX was originally a trading center for "magic, the game" cards. Brilliant! Its got a bit of "life imitating art" thing to it. The dilettante is often the purest of creators, for they create from the love of their craft alone!
