1921  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much money do i need to start becoming a whale on: July 31, 2015, 08:30:29 PM
The most you can make. Walls get bigger and bigger... The more you have the better. There is no fixed number. You can push the market with more or less Bitcoins, dependeing on the current volume.

Giving a shot at a certain number, I'd say 5000+ BTC
wow. stupid question: is it a good idea to take part in this or is it frowned upon

Do you know what your doing?  If you don't know how or why whales do what they do, it is probably best to not participate and HODL your coins.
1922  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: July 31, 2015, 08:28:42 PM
Which difficulty increase / month would you suggest?

Thats the thing and why I linked you a blank form.  No one knows and anything anyone tells you is an opinion and a complete guess.  I have seen many people lose tens of thousands of dollars by under/over guessing.

So, you need to take a look at the historical rises and then look at new hardware set to come out in the future and extrapolate what you think it is.  Like I said, its always a guess, but you'll feel much better about your numbers when you do the research.

For information purposes, I like to be on the safe side and estimate a little high.  Been using 5% difficulty estimated jumps lately, but that way I feel safe, and better about my decision when it is less.

The google doc has been updated with the starting post count for August. Next payment is on 31st Aug.

The campaign is full so we are not taking any more participants.

It looks like I got paid .2 btc, were we not getting paid for our avator and personal space messages as well?  I was expecting an extra .03 for them?

1926  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] MarginBot - A Bitfinex Margin Lending Management Bot on: July 31, 2015, 01:48:14 PM
Is the bot able to handle Btc and Ltc lending as well?  Or does it solely work with USD?

It only works on USD. I wonder if the bot works fully fine now. I stopped using bitfinex when all the complaints started. Withdraws, wrong orderbooks, wrong swap payments, no answers and so on. It reminded me too much on the beginning of problems on exchanges that afterwards claimed being hacked... or so.

It worked great when i used it and i had a lot of ideas to optimize it but the work-reward is not so high so that i didnt work on it.

Yea IDK what to think about Bitfinex, I like them and the returns are nice, I would like to see another audit be done.  I guess we will see.

The bot seems neat, I would really like support for Btc and Ltc to make it more, "complete", but I will take what I can get.  Have my brother working on what set up costs would be since I don't own a server.  As of right now, if it really can get about 20% better returns, then the amount I have deposited would about break me even with server costs every month, but only have the money lent out for a couple of days at a time would help liquidity.

See my post above about free hosting.

I'm planning on forking this to work with BTC as well, as it doesn't look like it would be too hard to do. I'll post here when it's ready for you all to try out Smiley

Yes, it should be fairly easy. I wonder why i didnt get the idea before. ... I think its because the profit from lending btc is much lower than lending usd. And you have the risk of btc price dropping, killing all your profits.

If this would work then you could go short and long on bitcoin and earning money on the way by multiplying the currency you hold at that time.

Yea it does stink that the profit from bitcoin is so low.  It just seems that there are too many people who are interested in lending their bitcoin and not enough people interested in trading with it.  Really drives the interest rate down.

Still though, I have tried just setting my btc to the FRR, but they never get taken out.  So, I still have to trust Bitfinex with my coins, and I am getting nothing in return.  This would at least get some minimal return.
1927  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: July 30, 2015, 03:20:40 PM
Say what you will about Minersource, but it seems like they were at least trying to do the right thing in the winter/spring of 2014 when this giant clusterfuck started - namely, refunding people whose orders had been delayed due to BA's repeated lies.

Not even close. Minersource refused refunds to as many people as possible.
I suspect that was on order from BA - or at least a message from BA that they would not credit Minersource for the refunds they gave their customers. IIRC Minersource refunded a few orders initially, then stopped.

Yep, I think they did.  Then IIRC they lawyered up and started the same shit BA was pulling in trying to deny refunds and jam product on people that had requested refunds.

Problem for them is, in the US you can't pull that shit.  Very likely why they rolled up shop and took off, as the long arm of the law was likely coming for their ass PDQ.  They are still liable, although I have no idea if anyone is still going after them or not.

There was that jamming of product on people, and the fiasco with the chips and boards that they tried to help organize.

It looked to me like Matt was at least trying to help, but got fucked by BA, who was refusing to honor refunds, and then Technobit, although I have no idea what happened there as I decided to stay out of that.

Then there was the accusation of them stealing a gazillion dollars worth of miners.  Seems more likely to me that they were looking to go after BA for something and the criminal assholes at BA cooked that story up completely as some sort of payback or something, as that whole thing never made any sense to me.

The problem is, nothing this company has really done has made any sense to me...

Why not ship everyone a miner that they paid for?  It seems like a lot of people haven't even received their miners, if your making them, why not at least ship them out?

The whole email list being stolen thing?

My apologies, I have been sick the last 2 days and my head is still very much so swimming.  I am sure there are other examples, but it literally hurts to think right now.  I am sure someone can fill in some more.

OH! The whole data center thing.  Just remembered that one.

Black Arrow is a scam company and stole millions from investors.  Do not do business with them.  There also is no confirmed X1.5 units that have shipped yet, since they were supposed to be for compensation and BA reneged on sending any compensation to those who got screwed by them.

I was lucky and scored 2x X1.5 units with power cord, wifi antenna, screens for $80.
Theyre a hell of a lot nicer to play around with and the power consumption alongside
my single Rockminer New-Rbox is a hell of a lot more enticing than my first miner
which was a bulky, power hungry monster Antminer S-1.

Oh they also came with the original invoice and ship date which was in June-2015.

You actually got an X1.5? I'd like to see it, never seen any evidence of them shipping anything other than the X1's

There you go. Not where Im keeping them, just testing area while I rearrange apartment for new furniture.

What is the average hashrate for each one?  Weren't they supposed to be 200 GH/s ea?  Neither is anywhere close to that and one is barely putting out what an X-1 does.

What is the power draw?  Where did you buy them from?

Currently underclocked with freq set to 700, 800 is kind of a sweet spot and 900 is overclocked.
I havent played around enough with them yet but the android interface makes things very easy to overclock and set voltage.
Once I relocate them to a more open space Ill be messing with the clock speeds to see what they can really do.
Im still quite new to the BTC scene so Im learning as I go. Im curious to know what the elusive "stackable mount" looks like
and having contacted BA about them they say they come standard with orders. It would be nice to stack these and save some space.
I bought them from someone I know who ordered directly from BA, have invoice for proof. For the price I got them at its worth fiddling
around with them stepping up my bitcoin knowledge. Right now theyre hashing at 130-150gh/s.

HAHA, the "stackable" was something they promised when they first opened up for orders (hint, it was another lie from this company).  They later came out and said there was no mount and these could not be stacked based on how they suck air in/out.  So basically, something else they lied to customers about and never intended to deliver on.  Just set them up next to each other.
1930  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Giving refund to all who are scammed by me on: July 28, 2015, 11:15:22 PM
Hmm, I am not sure what you have done or what you have stolen, and it is commendable that you are trying to repent, but the only reason your repenting is that you were tracked down.

IMO, you should be given whatever sentence correlates to your offenses and no one should feel bad for you in the slightest.  If you really did scam people, you should have a punishment.  I hope whoever doxxed you takes it to the proper authorities/channels and you get what you deserve.  We should have no complacence for scammers and you should be held no different.

Good luck with your legal battles.

Is HaoBTC banking only available in china, or am I missing something/doing something wrong.  Signed up but cant see a way to deposit btc.  It doesn't seem like all the people in this thread are in china, but i'm just guessing.  Thanks for any help.

Once logged in, click on "Banking" on the left side and then at the top of the page there is a field called address and it shows a bitcoin address.  That is your deposit address.

my single Rockminer New-Rbox is a hell of a lot more enticing than my first miner
which was a bulky, power hungry monster Antminer S-1.

But when you think of the release date between the S-1 and the X-1 you see why there is that power difference.  Most people who bought S-1's achieved a positive ROI, not a single person who bought an X-1 received even half their money back.

You cannot compare 2 generations of miners and expect the power efficiency to be comparable. Why not compare it to the current generation of miners then and say that the X-1 is just as bad as it really is when compared to the S5 or anything by Spondoolies?  Not to mention there is soon going to be another generation of miners out and BA could barely ship a few units from their first and only batch without them catching fire.

All in all, the X-1 would have been an extremely good machine had it been released on time with no complications, instead the greedy fucks at BA screwed every single customer they had and are slowly dying out.  In reality, the X-1 was finally shipped after other companies had power efficiency ratios of around half of what they did, making them a complete POS of a machine.

1939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Pattern Recognition 101 on: July 28, 2015, 12:31:10 AM
I'd like to take this moment to remind our readers that of the many thousands of centrally-controlled currencies created throughout history, only about 200 of them survive today. Crypto has existed for a mere six years, and already there are more living cryptos than there are fiat scrips.

Gold has watched many of them come and go, although there are many thousands more which predate even gold. Historically, centralized money has a very ominous extinction rate.

Yea but I bet if you added up all of the different crypto currencies and compared how many are still around compared to fiat, fiat would be far far ahead.

That's because any 6 year old can create his own crypto currency in less than an afternoon (and buy there own coin for a few dollars).  This is not a good reference to make.
