hi guys, I'm new to the thread.
I checked several altcoins, many had already lost everything they gained yesterday, but NEO.... it's halfway only. I shorted a bit (150) at 17.833 just to check my hunch Smiley. What do you think?

Big cap shitcoins are the biggest shitcoins of all.

i'd argue the shittiest shitcoins are more better than 99.9% of the tokens listed on shitcoincap Smiley lol
1943  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 18, 2018, 06:03:44 PM
Quoting Vitalik Buterin from https://www.forbes.com/sites/rachelwolfson/2018/08/15/vitalik-buterin-on-the-state-of-ethereum-the-future-of-blockchain-and-google-trying-to-hire-him/ : "The Casper protocol is getting much closer to being finalized at this point. It’s just pending review on academic analysis"

For those who are not aware, Casper will introduce Proof of Stake instead of Proof of Work for ETH. So many GPU miners (especially on AMD chips) will naturally shift to XMR being the next most profitable coin to mine.

So my question is simple: what effect do you think will Casper have on the price of Monero?

Eth is proving time and a gain what a hyped POS coin it has always been and when the miners leave the price will just continue down the shitter as the Scam ICO's get shut down. So it should naturally turn people attention to solid projects such as this one.

I think this will become more and more common. Many Bitcoiner's seem to be pro-Monero in private, but shy away from public endorsement.

As it stands it seems intellectually dishonest to say that Bitcoin will be the end all for crypto. Glad to see Roger leading the way.

Yeah, there are too many koolaid drinkers that will Dog pile you if you even suggest Bitcoin is not the perfect piece of software that can never in the future of all mankind be improved upon.

bitmonero is just a glorified bytecoin...move along n00b: nothing to see here Wink hehe

edit:

tl;dr

I approached c0 with the MC2 concept from 2013 and merged efforts to develop the system in 2014. I developed a working proof-of-concept for Decred at that time, and then let them refine it while I audit and provide feedback.

1947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][?] A new coin based on CryptoNote technology (BCN fork) on: August 18, 2018, 04:40:51 PM
Is there a rationale for sticking with the CryptoNite hashing algo? Some issues I pointed out before: 1) the CPU mining phase is prone to botnets 2) Someone will inevitably develop a GPU miner and it's in their interest not to release it, creating a fairness problem.  (I'd personally prefer X11, because it's CPU+GPU and draws much less power than scrypt.)
Then go to Groestl, which draws even less power than X11, is CPU+GPU too and better yet reduces the advantage of GPU over CPU.

I personally am explicity against a CPU+GPU algo. Because this means CPU have no reason to mine anymore (except for increasing a little the mining power of a GPU miner). GPU mining means "more money for the richs, less money for the rest of us". Not exactly in the direction of fairness.

Plus, CryptoNote goes beyond a lot of the shortcoming of the bitcoin protocol. CryptoNote uses CryptoNight algo only. Maybe it could be possible to implement X11 on CryptoNote as a replacement for CryptNight, but as stated above, I am against this.

That being said, your point regarding botnets is interesting. I suppose the reason why there is not much botnets on GPU is that server do not come with a real GPU to start with.

edit: I actually can't find anything on this algo. Is this even a sound hashing function with a low probability of being cracked in the future? Most of the algos that the crypto community has been using are well-established and created by professionals and researchers (like the NIST finalists).
Did you check for the Cryptonote or Cryptonight? The first is the technology, the second is the algo.

botnets lol Wink muuhahaah

1951  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: August 18, 2018, 01:18:23 AM
The decentralized repository is gaining momentum! more and more companies need with the provision of services with storage of data! the whole world goes to the information level, society begins to need data storage! especially became popular in decentralized storage! I'm sure that the company is waiting for success!
Im highly confident in SIA, I believe that it will be a top crypto in some years from now.
And when market recovers we will see Siacoin price move to higher levels.

Ah.but there is the catch....what crypto are you talking about? If they fork Siacoin and use the new forked Siacoin on their decentralized anonymous network cloud storage, at 10c to

Amazon Cloud's $1 price. As a comparison. Siacoin (non-fork) as it exists now MAY NOT be worth, anything, and this new fork does what you wish/claim will be the replacement coin.

Just saying, strange times, be aware.

I did TA and to the moon soon , but you need a small market correction. As you can see on the chart, the volume of purchases increased. Investors expect growth / fall. The market began to recover after the fall in 2013.

Apart from the inverse Bart Simpson, this is the best TA I've seen on here.

OT : "Let's get rid of quarterly earnings reports"

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/17/trump-pushes-for-an-end-to-quarterly-earnings-reports.html

What a great idea! In fact, let's get rid of all profit reporting all together! I mean, it's not like they're hiding shit with 'creative accounting' and stock buybacks every quarter, every year. And the stock prices are so overblown and out of whack with P/E anyway... so who cares. The traders certainly don't give a shit. Amiright??
