Lisk launch post-mortem: What went right, what went wrong

Yesterday, at exactly 8pm UTC, we published Lisk v0.3.0 and announced the launch of Lisk. What a launch that was! In this post-mortem we bring light to the problems we faced, explain why our web login isn’t/wasn’t accessible, and clear up misunderstandings.

First of all, I’d like to apologise for the rough launch and the harm that the DDoS attack caused. Since the launch, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that all our systems are working perfectly again. We simply didn’t anticipate this overwhelming demand and trading chicanery.

The only problem we still face at this moment are our web logins. The reason is the same as yesterday: huge amount of traffic and ongoing DDoS attacks. However, everything else is working very well. Users can install Lisk on various operation systems like Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Local client installations are functional and the Lisk network is alive and healthy.

The current client is aimed at technical users, but it’s relatively easy to install it with our guides. The best option is to simply use the Docker installation if you are on Windows or Mac. After we have guaranteed the network’s stability and optimised a few important Lisk modules (e.g., peer communication); we will look into options to provide a one-click Lisk client.

Read our complete post-mortem now!

excuse mr master "True"(or CTO or whatever you are) but you are liar... all windows users was put in the limbo from start and at final was fucked up thanks to you. you collect so much money and at final you say ddos attack? Omg all LSK start was pure failed one. much money from windows users and didn't predict docked version together with linux one? You are a joker with pink glasses - face the true. Sorry for saying this but its true...

i'm pretty sure nobody forced you to use windows.

Someone please tell me...What advantage does Lisk serve in relation to current centralized application environments?

If my app on my server at my datacenter gets ddos'ed my app/server is unavailable. If my app on a Lisk delegate gets ddos'ed...MY APP IS UNAVAILABLE.

Yeah, ETH is much "better" because it does not have one working wallet for 10 months now. Idiot.

Haha, I'm an idiot and you can't even answer my question. You're goin places bud.  Wink

You're a small fag how lives with his mother? "Haha" f2f with your mummy-mother-whore.

Nah, I'm actually a security consultant and was hoping someone would answer my question.

There is a great study out by a Harvard professor regarding how stupid people are so stupid that they can't realize how stupid they are. Definitely check it out.

don't need to go to Harvard to know that LOL

it works?  kewl, I almost punched a hole in my monitor trying to get MIST to work.  ETH = Vaproware  Lisk is the new king.

WC king, as we all see yesterday.

lol, you think the whole rest of time is going to be impacted by day one price?  Smart guy here.

So are there any suspects for DDoS attack?  Who are those criminals??

DDos attack was made from MAX itself! Open your eyes guys!
A dev that wasn't able to prevent addos attack at launch? ridicolous.

Normally i do this only face to face but...

You are an idiot.

Uff raetsch, it's crypto game. Fud and hype it's part of the game. Don't take crypto too seriously. c'mon.  Wink

if i would take this serious, i would not lie in my chair, listen to Quo's 2013 version of rockin' all over the world and write this to you.
but hype and fud needs some truth to be told to achieve a balance Wink

very good way of describing it

are online wallets not sending it shows sent but has not showed up where i sent?

try logging in to one of the bigger number nodes

We have setup a multitude of mirror web logins. login01.lisk.io, login02.lisk.io, login03.lisk.io, login04.lisk.io, login05.lisk.io, login06.lisk.io, login08.lisk.io

most of them are a bit faster with less ddos towards the end of the list.
1989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: May 25, 2016, 08:14:23 PM
Max,
You didn't solve main stuck here: weblogin, and you got 24 hours time.
If you rent 5 usd vps it's your fault. not ddos attack.

Did you already bought your lambo today with your 6 million usd?

You are the dumbest here since MW33.  his shit is even better than yours which is sad really.
1990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: May 25, 2016, 07:49:17 PM

I had this error when I first set up the node.  I ended up restoring my VPS server from scratch and it solved the issues with the name stuff.

Or just restart the Docker container:

docker stop $(docker ps -a | grep lisk | awk '{print $1}')
docker start $(docker ps -a | grep lisk | awk '{print $1}')

I was getting this error before being able to even download any of the files associated with LISK so there was no docker to restart.

Could someone tell me why I'm getting this error when trying to connect to my wallet?  Everything worked fine earlier.

Now I'm getting this:

Quote
Cannot GET /

I've tried updating and everything, too...any ideas?

wrong PostgreSQL username or password or both

look at your logfile:

forever list

this might also be the solution to the guy above

try
Code:
bash lisk.sh rebuild
and wait for blockchain to sync.

and
Code:
bash lisk.sh logs
to see whats going on.

I'm getting this response:

Code:
bash: lisk.sh: No such file or directory

which makes no sense, as I was already running it fine earlier  Huh

possible your not in the right folder.

Do a
Code:
ls

see if your in the right folder.

you should see lisk-0.3.0-Linux-x86_64

if you are not inside that folder you will not be able to mess with  the node.

so if you are inside the lisk-0.3.0-Linux-x86_64 folder and do a
Code:
ls

you should see this output

if not you might not be in the right folder

Not really the best visual of the buy/ask side. Look at how thin the sell side is, relative to the buy.

The visual you are seeing is gathered from 3 exchanges (Yobit, Poloniex & Bittrex) so it provides a global view of the coin.

nice charts,  the month on yobit kinda screwed with the number a bit but still looking really good!
1994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: May 25, 2016, 08:33:13 AM
Why such a small price in LISK? Undecided

each one is selling
i wont sell at this price
eth showed us we have to wait then it will be 10x ico price

While it may not be as high as some hoped out of the gate it is still almost 4x the ICO price and 28 million USD marketcap placing it into the top 5 altcoins. On day one.

A truly awful user experience, all told. All that time and funds that Lisk had, and we get this shit    Cry

Technical question:

When there are so many quick buys and sells on Poloniex, are these bots? how do they go about making such fast transactions.

There have a few impressive pump/ dump waves but they happen so quickly, it seems like it's impossible to tell when to go in/out.

yes bots + lots of monster energy filled traders

For those of you still having issues... I just used https://lisknode.grumlin.com/ and had no problems transferring my Lisk out...
Not official site, maybe phishing attempt.

not the official site but the dev who created that site is a legendary user here in the forum but still i dont trust him 100% with my coins

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=13137

We all must be careful with our funds. Be aware of scam sites coming online that will take your funds.
Now, with that said, I sent a small amount through Grumlins site, and it went through quickly and without any hassles. The Lisk web wallets are all non functional for me at this point.
To each and their own, but for me Grumlin provided a good sevice and it helped me just fine.

Thanks Grumlin!

People, LISK has multiple wallets. Try login02.lisk.io --> login05.lisk.io . login05 is very quit and works whit no problems. Please do not use other wallets...you dont know if these are fake !

was it definitely a DDOS attack?

yes on the main launch site and as soon as max released another official login node.
