21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MSK]MaskNetwork testnet launched. Testers needed. on: December 17, 2015, 11:21:54 PM
Couldn't node operators steal users private keys?

This probably a scam, i remember a presale for the same network a while ago.
22  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Group on: November 05, 2015, 10:31:31 AM
Curious to hear what opinions are out there on Bitcoin Group. They've asked me several times to become a shareholder, I'm considering investing a few k

Is their business model profitable in the long term? Currently 60% of their revenue comes from arbitrage but they're trying shift towards solely doing mining. By February they expect to control 10% of the hash rate. 98% of the mining is done in China because of the lower cost of electricity.

Here's the prospectus.

I do not recommend investing in this IPO. All they are doing is raising capital and throwing that money to bitcoin miner manufacturers. Can you already see the flaw in this? They are not manufacturing there own miners! If the manufacturers knew that it would be more profitable to mine their own equipment, wouldn't they be doing it? The real winners are not the people who buy the equipment but the people who make them.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to safely use the bitcoin core client, get rid of third party wallets. on: October 29, 2015, 02:39:19 AM
So do you mean amm. The best way and safeties wallet is to install new os from a virtual box or VM ware or any virtual os installer?
I think this is a good idea and secured because if you install a os in a virtual box thats safe then dont install anything just only a bitcoin client with system required.
How about the internet access if you want to deposit your wallet? You said theres no internet access in vm..

I'm talking about Qubes OS. With Qubes, the "appVm's" all have internet access however not the place where you initialize the apps/vm's, in other words the base vm when you start the OS has no internet access. The networking is done on a seperate VM for better security and gives internet access to the app vm's only. So the bitcoin core client is usable as it does have a connection to the internet.

https://www.qubes-os.org/ check out the website and  try out the live usb if your curious how it works. It is truly the best OS i have ever used.

Bit confusing....

In the title to the thread you say get rid of third party wallets and in the first sentence you say that they are safe and imply that they can be used without problems.

They can be safer if you have a compromised system.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / How to safely use the bitcoin core client, get rid of third party wallets. on: October 21, 2015, 11:53:20 PM
Third party wallets on the desktop are primarily safer than the core wallet if 2FA is enabled via sms. User does not have to risk losing bitcoins if his/her OS is compromised.

So the problem that needs solving is installing bitcoin core on a non compromised system. One way to do this:

Change your OS to Qubes OS, install bitcoin core on one of the Virtual machines without installing anything else on the vm. QUBES OS works in a way that if any of your other VM's are compromised, they can't infect each other, your base vm where all vm's are initialized from has no network access so it can never be compromised.

For mobiles:
The blackphone 2 does have the os setup similar to QUBES so i'm thinking you could create a separate virtual phone that one day houses only the bitcoin core client. Use an SPV client on it for now.

26  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BITCOIN > SPENDABLE NETELLER (Net++ card) PROJECT IDEA on: October 16, 2015, 02:20:22 AM
Hello hamiltino,

you can already do this with https://www.coinimal.com

The limits for unverified accounts are 1000€/day and the funds are usable for the NET+ card without any restrictions.

I found this service from reddit, very glad i found out about it.
27  Bitcoin / Project Development / 21 Bitcoin Computer Project Idea Thread. on: October 02, 2015, 10:22:03 PM
Post your ideas and projects here.

Some of my ideas.

Joystream like service
Problem: Poor ratio of seeders to leechers.
Solution: Users use the 21 computer to download torrent files at blistering speeds because they pay seeders micro amounts for their bandwidth. Users do not actually spend any money because the bitcoins they are spending are mined on the backend without them even having to do a thing in terms of purchasing bitcoins and making payments.

Bitube
Problem: Youtubes incentive model is broken.
Solution: Youtube with a new incentive model, instead of advertisments, uploaders get paid satoshis for every second a user watches any of their videos. Lets say 1 satoshi per second. Again the ease of use of this service is present because the user never has to deal with purchasing and wasting money on bitcoins when its already integrated in there computer, enough for watching bitube videos.

Competitive and incentivized  Video Games
Problem: Video games have no reward structure which stretch out to the real world.
Solution: Use 21 computer micro payments to reward and allow people to compete with each other. Think agar.io or chopcoin.io with leaderboard awards without having to gamble anything other than a few mined satoshis which are not payed for.

28  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BITCOIN > SPENDABLE NETELLER (Net++ card) PROJECT IDEA on: October 02, 2015, 10:58:16 AM
A site in which you insert bitcoin and the website then sends you neteller dollers which are spendable using the virtual cards. You can't do this directly from the site and a simple service like this could be very popular. At the moment people send neteller USD to something like pokerstars and then gamble a little and withdraw to neteller account in order to make credit card purchases, its inefficient and can be improved with a dedicated service.

Are you looking for website to do the above quoted or you want to create a website that can do it? I don't understand.

An idea that someone may want to implement.

30  Economy / Gambling / Re: www.chopcoin.io - The new interactive Bitcoin game! on: October 01, 2015, 09:37:42 PM

I just played for the first time.. i've played agar.io tons, i had to quit cause i was playing it too much lol.

Thoughts on chopcoin.... firstly it played very smooth for me, almost no lag, no different from agar.  I found chopcoin a little confusing how to get going at first, i heard you could play for bitcoins for free on here (faucet play) and it took a while to find what i had to do at the site, then i worked out i needed to create an account. I would suggest not needing an account for faucet play and probably have a very clear tab saying FREE PLAY (WIN BITCOINS) or something.  Also i couldnt see what i might win and wasn't sure how i might win.  Do you have to be number one when the game ends? idk, if so have a winning zone on the leader board if possible where names highlight or something.  I dont know what possible at this stage, i understand right now you are building numbers which is most important thing.

All in all though excellent site congrats, was better than i thought.

Agreed the MENU system is confusing.
31  Economy / Gambling / Re: www.chopcoin.io - The new interactive Bitcoin game! on: October 01, 2015, 09:27:03 PM
I had the same idea as you. Glad someone implemented this. However the lag is unbearable and i still go back to agar,io everytime. You need to add servers around the globe and improve your server side code. What is your back end stack?

3/10/15

21 bitcoin computer disperses satoshis, this would be perfect for this game. Imagine if you could play and win a decent amount of satoshis without even having to "gamble" your money. I know there is a faucet play ground but its not nearly as sustainable as a node contribution model.

Played another game today, it seems that the lag is less noticeable than the other day when i played, possibly from some of the game updates. Still think, continental servers are beneficial when games have money on the line. Hard to justify costs for the lack of player base, but i believe a necessity.

Believe game has a lot of potential and is part of a greater movement of apps which integrate micro payments, rewards and virtual economies. This app is a prime example and could get very popular with constant updates and improvements.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's KILLER app on: September 28, 2015, 02:12:19 AM
Bitcoin is already killer in so many ways, why does there always have to be some magical future app that makes bitcoin finally "successful"?
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Currency has been released on: September 07, 2015, 09:42:42 AM
I want to buy some coins but i heard few days/weeks ago some people lost their coins in the wallet. Is this issue still present?

Not in 0.4.0, however there is no GUI available yet. It will be available tomorrow.

Awesome man, looking forward to it.

35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IPv6 now live on bitcoin network - please test on: July 07, 2015, 11:37:52 PM
What's the benefit of using IPv6?

No one needs to OPEN ANY PORTS!!! Thats the benefit. Imagine if everyone could download the bitcoin core and actually contribute to the netowork without having to do anything! Thats how bitcoin should be. If everyone used ipv6 because it was the standard, we would have 50x more connections than we do have at the moment.

Port forwarding is a bitch and there are so many variables that can make port forwarding not work.

What is the point of bumping a three years old thread ?

I'm not trying to actually "privatly converse with him", its a public forum and people like you read this shit as it gets bumped. Maybe it sparks some thought. 7000 views and only ~20 replies; its not about the direct conversation but about the public reading it.

37  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning Do Not Use GreenAddress.it on: July 03, 2015, 02:36:51 PM
I don't get what the problem is. You have your seed no? Did you even read how greenaddress works? If there honestly is a bug in the software your funds should still be safe with your passphrase. Why don't you check out how the services works before freaking out. If you are using it correctly you should be fine. And who is to say someone hasn't gotten your details and IS logged in somewhere else?

I know i can retrieve funds without using the service after 90 DAYS.

If someone is logged in elsewhere why is it that there are others in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521988.140 that are experiancing the same issues as me. Are we all being hacked? That is a reason to freak out for me. Maybe he/she will wait until the 90 days expires and take my money.

BUT! If i login, i should be able to click logout of the other session. WHY IS IT THAT IT DOESN'T LOGOUT OF THE OTHER SESSION THEN?
38  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning Do Not Use GreenAddress.it on: July 03, 2015, 02:14:31 PM
I haven't personally used this website, but my guess is this is a temporary bug that will be fixed soon. This doesn't seem like anything intentional to me.

Yeah i don't think its intentional, i didn't claim that. It's definitely a bug that has been experienced by others. Very frustrating, don't want to be waiting 90 days for nlock time expiration.
39  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning Do Not Use GreenAddress.it on: July 03, 2015, 02:10:11 PM
I don't think it is a scam, I would try emailing them...

Yes i have send 2 emails already over the past 24 hours with no response as of yet.

WARNING!!! DO NOT TRUST THIS ANY WEB SERVICE WITH YOUR COINS.

I just did small correction of your text:) I should be gold rule #1 for every crypto user. anyway, how many BTC you had in..?

about 10btc

holy moly, is it lot of money, at least for me..hope that you can afford to loose them. I lost dozens of coins on web sites like mtgox, so I know how you feel. good luck anyway..

Yeah if you have a lot of coin never rely on third parties, even if they offer a million security and other fancy features. You are still relying on there servers and infrastructure which can be a house of cards.

Lesson learned.
