Getting back above 007 is a big deal, it's a complete recovery of the Bittrex lows.   I think it's looking good for at least the rest of this month.
Then (looking at historical trends) even if it settles back we should see one more early autumn pump.  BTC will of course dictate again for a while this autumn, with hopefully another run as the BTC pump settles back in spring '22.
Just my gut feeling after seven years of close Monero watching.  The main thing is that it seems certain that Monero is - and will remain - a contender.  Top 20 MC is in plain sight.  Let's see Monero back where it belongs.

Is there anything better than waking up in the morning, going to the toilet to take a good shit, switch on the smartphone and watch that green candle grow to break an old ATH in real time?!  Grin

EDIT: Short version: Good morning. ATH!!!

Well... I can think of one or two things - but I hear you.

Thanks for a decent half hour's viewing.  Fascinating.

Poloniex has XMR in 'maintenance mode' so no withdrawals or deposits.  Is there an issue generally or is it just them?

Wondered is it's affecting price.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 20, 2021, 07:35:38 PM
Actually on Bitfinex it was 0.0356 - but no matter.

Right now half of either 'ATH' in BTC would be rather nice.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 18, 2021, 10:13:01 PM
I have always assumed the dollar ATH was in the bag.

Against BTC it's harder to say - I think the FUD pushed it lower than it would be and we still aren't fully recovered. Yet.

The BTC ATH would be what .035 ?  Anywhere near that would be awesome.  I might even sell a few of the handful I still have left after the boating accident.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 13, 2021, 04:42:12 PM
Loving this recovery, at 007 I think I will treat myself to a glass or two of Barolo.  Not that that's all I hope for of course, but after dipping to the mid-003s, it will feel a lot better.
28  Economy / Reputation / Re: Long-time sig campaign farm ID'd via single wallet transaction on: February 02, 2021, 11:24:50 AM
Sure.
can you provide some examples?

gentlemand https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17P52DifaD7YfvzLkX3wrxGVpKcaPHY4y57ZpI-FK754/edit#gid=1298899162

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=155345

Stopped posting and logging in just after he was removed from the campaign, and hasn't returned since. TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if he had more accounts.

I know gentlemand IRL and he always said he only came on to keep the sign campaign commitment up.  He was never that bothered about the WO, or even the campaign in the end - he actually said to me 'I don't know why they bother keeping me on it'.  He let it lapse, and given his lack of enthusiasm I am certain he would not have bothered with another account.  So, suppose all you like, but sorry, nah.

LEA prooves that Monero is more used than BTC

https://www.europol.europa.eu/newsroom/news/darkmarket-worlds-largest-illegal-dark-web-marketplace-taken-down

DarkMarket in figures:
almost 500 000 users;
more than 2 400 sellers;
over 320 000 transactions;
more than 4 650 bitcoin and 12 800 monero transferred.
I read the same stats.
I do wonder about 500,000 users, if there were only 320,000 tx.
If correct, which I doubt - that means a maximum possible of less than two thirds of 'users' actually made a transaction. And that is based on an assumption of just ONE transaction per user.
I would assume there was a varying amount of transactions per user, meaning even less of the so-called 'users' actually USED the place.
Nonsense figures, if you ask me...

Happy New Year, brothers!

Allow me a little rant?

TPTB are increasingly making things difficult for us 'plebs' to act freely and do as we please as we have been able to thus far.

Today, Bittrex just gave 14 days notice (they normally give 30) of de-listing privacy coins - including Monero, which is a top 20 market cap, and IMHO an honest traditional and respected POW coin.

You may not hold this coin of course, so you may think it doesn't matter.  But it is the creeping march of an increasingly controlled market wishing to become all seeing and all-knowing, which will enable it to squeeze out what it cannot control; Like, well - you and me.

Just be aware that your right to any kind of privacy means nothing any more, unless of course you are a major institution engaging in their 'normal' institutional practice.

If we have any power it is surely to boycott exchanges that act against our interests.  Exchanges like Bittrex should not be able to act against honest customers' buying preferences without some pushback.  If you care - boycott Bittrex and don't let them do what they want with your Bitcoins, your shitcoins or your privacy.
In a few years, ordinary people like us won't be able to even participate in the market without accreditation at this rate.

Is that what we wanted, is that what Satoshi wanted?  Is this it?  I really hope not.  But while we still have power (when exchanges want our coins) let's think about who we give our coins to, eh?  Without our coins they are finished.

Let's not sleep through a total takeover of the market and a mission creep that is intended to gradually squeeze us out?

Fuck Bittrex.
/rant.

If this Bitcoin pump gets more hyperbolic, I wonder what are the chances we could see ATL levels of .001 ... Shocked

Twice was more than enough of that, thanks.  Let's go the other way.  What does 0.100 feel like? Cheesy

About right Wink
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 31, 2020, 08:18:39 PM
@cAPSLOCK - not sure it was front running, I just think it was good volume and natural price action.
Since then it's all been about King Bitcoin - all the alts have suffered.   Especially those further down the chart in terms of market cap.
Things will inevitably turn around and Monero will be back in the sun before too long.  Use case and credibility does count.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 30, 2020, 09:50:51 PM
The BTC chart is a tad disappointing, I really thought we'd bottomed at 0063.

0055 is a bit 'ouch', but the fundamentals are still there, it's just it's all about Bitcoin right now.  I think, like others perhaps, that it's a great buy right now, but I can't bear to spend BTC just now to take advantage.

As I said previously I think we need to wait until spring to see a decent run again. There were good signs of life in October, we will see them again in Feb/March.  As always at times like these, HODL.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 29, 2020, 10:03:29 PM
Not much price action due to this development... DNMs are old news.  But I imagine we should see usage continue to increase:

Actually I don't think so.

Normal people are finding TOR and getting something sent is so much easier than anything else.

A CARPENTER friend sent me a guide. lol

he couldn't be less tech, but now will weekly use coins online.

What do you "not think so"?  That usage increases?

I thought you said DNM was old news.

I think its becoming less weird more normal.

I mean the fact people can say DM without melting down.  Smiley

Gotcha.  Yeah, my thought was alphabay takes Monero we get the price rise of the decade.  Monero takes over the DNM scene little by little?  Crickets.  But DNMs are old news and as you are saying regular people know about them.

So what I see is one of the purest strongest use cases for a digital currency building, but fairly quietly.  We could say this is already priced into Monero at the speculative level... but I do not think that is 100% true.

Also, I believe Monero may end up discounted in some ways because of this (though I think the positive firmly outweigh the negatives from a speculative standpoint).  Monero is doing Bitcoin a huge favor by taking the illegitimate use stigma away for itself.

I am a firm believer that financial privacy is good for ALL, not just people breaking the law, lol.  But that use case is a very valid test for sure.

Interesting times, to say the least.

(Hello FBI people.  I do not advocate people take part in DNMs or drug trade etc. I believe Monero is an important project because of it's connection to the notion of free speech and privacy.)

Passing this on cAPSLOCK:

Hey Kurious, tell cAPSLOCK we're watching, and we know.

What care or advice can you offer when switching the drives over? Just switch them over to the new NAS in the same order and boot it up then hope for the best? I'm hoping it will launch some sort of volume recovery process or something. Either that or it boots up like nothing happened but that's too much wishful thinking haha

I am sorry to say mine needed configuring when I got a new box, two drives had issues and were u/s.  I had 4 (two main and one backup of each one) and the two backups were not able to be seen.  The main drives were ok, fortunately.  Got a tech guy in in the end to check it and had to buy two new backup drives to get it going again.

Spark up the drives and just see if they mount ok - as long as you can see all the data- the worst case is re-back up.  If they don't, it's a pain!  You need to get into the Synology software (which sucks) to do and it takes forever to re-backup.

I now have a back up I make monthly of each 'primary' drive.  I just don't trust the NAS enough.   I had WD reds 4Tb in each slot.  It's only for main 'work' data storage, my desktop (Mac) backs up via Time Machine to a portable cheap drive.  If only NAS worked as reliably Wink
36  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 29, 2020, 12:04:12 PM
Well that was fun... Shut down my Synology NAS today to do some electrical work around the house. Powered it back on and was greeted with a flashing blue power light and not much else. Turns out the NAS itself has shat the bed and not the hard drives; common issue with the DS415+ apparently (not that that helps me much)

So now I've got to buy another NAS tomorrow and HOPE that my 24GB of data isn't all fucking gone when I plug the disks into the new NAS. If it is gone it isn't the end of the world (mostly TV shows and movies on it) but I've spent years collecting it all.

I know it's off topic but just had to rant. Told my wife and she wasn't too interested Cheesy Cheesy

On topic however... these last two days have been good consolidation I think. Things were getting a bit too heated, nice to catch our breaths a bit before the next leg up.

Hope everyone has a better day than I

Had the same issue last year, Synology does suck.  Careful when you transfer drives to new unit, too - they don't like being moved too much.

I'm with Bob that he started the breakthrough beyond 20K. period.

Confirmed.

I think December 16th from now on should be Gay Christmas Card Day in Bob's honour.

Pulled down by BTC ripping up, but pulled back nicely as BTC settled back.

It's a sweet hint of what is to come.  As long as the sling shot is still there, and it seems it still is - all we need to do is hold while Bitcoin tears up and salivate.

I do expect a very good Spring for us.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: December 06, 2020, 11:58:05 PM
Agree with cAPSLOCK on the XMR/BTC - the USD price is nice to see, but it's the price against BTC that matters - an asset that rises against BTC means you're better off than being in BTC itself.

This looks like a solid bottom to me - it's been thoroughly tested - around the 0063 mark - I think it won't break down from here.  In Spring we should be spiking up to around the .013 mark.  Our patience will be rewarded.

YOUR LINE IS TOO DAMN LOW. (insert Samuel L Jackson meme here)  Grin Grin Grin

When creating art, the lines must be more pleasing to the eye.

I am sadly severely OCD, I have to get the lines strictly on the bottoms (insert NSFW pic in your mind if you wish).  I can't do art Wink
