21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer S17e's strange problem on: January 27, 2021, 02:02:50 AM
They will not accept your "apply for parts". All newer models must be sent as a whole unit.
Depending on where are you from, shipping might or might not take that long.

There are multiple repair sites around world, not exactly sure if any are open now tho. Netherlands one was closed during outbreak of COVID and I am not sure if they have reopened it.

Long term your best solution might be to mine with working two hashboards until one of those breaks or whole unit stops mining and then RMA it.

Repair should cost between 50 and 100 USD and it usually takes day or two for it as they do not actually repair your unit, they just ship you a different one.

Your biggest problem is shipping time and taxes (if there are any).
22  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Q: Most reliable SHA-256 Asic Miners on: January 27, 2021, 01:27:47 AM
Short answer:

If you are looking for reliability, durability and stability, my order would be this (from best to worst):

Canaan>Whatsminer>Innosilicon>Bitmain (with exception of S9 and maybe S19 units).

Long answer:

I've had very few of Canaan and Whatsminer units, but they were always reliable and I never RMA-ed a single one. Everyone I knew who used these had really good "luck" with reliability compared to Bitmain.

Innosilicon is a bit different story, I've had a tad bit more of units that went through my hands or that I used personally. They were all really good and with exception of one T2T's PSU giving me blue smoke after solid 2 years of working (tho it was put through hell - it was used in miner oil a few times, then it was OC-ed to maximum "Performance+" mode during summer).

Bitmain is a complicated one... S9 were really good for me and everyone I knew personally. Out of 100 units that I had and later sold locally, they are ALL still working with OC (using exactly 1.8kW or less - depending on PSU). X11 and X15 were short series not worth mentioning. And then came X17 series, pure hell of units, I've had 75% failure rate on them. S17e was only unit that didn't break even through OC during summer. S17/S17Pro/S17+ all broke even if they were used on factory settings or underclocked. I would never recommend anyone to buy that generation of miners. X19 seems to be better, but more time has to pass so we can determine exact failure rate on them.
23  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17 Pro Help, Miners Keep Restarting on: January 27, 2021, 12:47:38 AM
I'd firstly try unplugging them and letting them "rest" for a few minutes and the turning them on again.

If I see right, you are using Vnish (Asic.to) firmware, which should by default restart it whenever it fails to boot or encounters a problem during mining, you can disable some of those "features" in options if you want to mine without interrupts with few of those hashboards that work fine.

Although, I would check the PSUs. They are "easy" to replace especially if you have that many units, you can take one from 100% working one and try it on problematic ones.
But do keep in mind that transferring PSU from one unit to another takes 15-20min.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer S17e's strange problem on: January 25, 2021, 01:39:05 PM
Ahh okay, I think they won't recognize I have opened metal covers.

I changed places between hashboards but no results. The same issue occurs. Only chains number exchanges. And with only that faulty hashboard it doesn't work at all. It doesn't matter which slot it is connected, it doesn't work.

I am now almost sure the hashboard is broken somehow. Your 90% guess is increasing to 99% as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, that hashboard is bonkers. You could try with different PSU if you have any friend or know someone who has antminers near you, but I doubt that will do anything.

Trying custom firmware MIGHT fix your problem TEMPORARILY but best thing you can do is RMA it if they can provide you with another in short time frame, but be careful with additional tariffs here too. Otherwise I'd keep mining on those 2/3 hashboards and ask for partial refund if possible.

What time zone do you use to determine post count by day? I usually post around 00:00 UTC (GMT0) so I am not sure what day those posts count towards.

Kindly stated on the spreadsheet. [Forum time]

Totally missed red bold title in the spreadsheet. Thanks.

I unplugged those two boards and tried that faulty one only. It doesn't work at all. Luckily the shop where this has bought from provides two years warranty. So they will send repair ticket for me. Now I am little bit nervous since I have opened that miner. Maybe I have to rely on that they won't notice it.

Have you tried moving that hashboard in place of one of those that you removed? It could still be that PSU connector is defective and not hashboard itself - even though I still suspect that hashboard is bad.

No need to be nervous, just put everything back in order it was and there is no way they can know you were opening it. And even if they do notice it (by some sort of magic), there are no more "warranty void" stickers on Antminers, so you shouldn't worry about it.

When I was contacting Bitmain support to troubleshoot a few of my miners, they even told me to open it and try different things there before RMA-ing it and they even wanted me to take pictures and videos of hashboards after removing them from the unit so they could visually inspect them.

I would prefer this to be moved to Mining support but as you are mining BSV, this might be correct board.

There could be four things wrong with that unit.
1st - hashboard is defective (chips are being read which means that part of it is working fine; at least you know that loose heatsink is not your problem like in other X17 miners).
2nd - that hashboard is overheating and it is turning itself off to protect itself.
3rd - one of four tempsensors failed and it is turning itself off again to protect itself from overheating.
4th - PSU is acting up - try another one if you have. Or try running only one hashboard at a time to see if it will work (also try different connections on PSU as well as on control board so you can rule out things one by one).

Firstly, I'd advise you not to mine BSV but rather switch to BTC as mining profit is better and BTC has much brighter future imho.
Secondly, try updating firmware (from official bitmain website) or try custom firmware like asic.to (WHEN and IF they release firmware for S17e) or Thierry's which I personally reviewed and tested on my S17e.

30  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Error in voltage antminer t17+ , damaged psu ? on: January 25, 2021, 01:43:07 AM
I've had this problem happen when atmosphere temperature is too cold or too hot. It is indeed PSU problem (or at least that was my conclusion at the time).

A simple turning off of machine for 2-3 mins and then plugging it back in would almost always fix the problem.

If that does not fix it, try unplugging chain 0 and trying with other two chains.
31  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Problem t2ts innosilicon on: January 25, 2021, 01:13:07 AM
If BitMaxz's solution doesn't work, try factory resetting it or updating firmware (even if it is newest one, try force uploading it so it clears all the configuration that was previously put it). If none of this works out, you might have a virus-infected unit.

Can you confirm if this unit ever mined for you and if you checked with seller that it works fine on his/her pool?
32  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 - Rejection Ratio on: January 25, 2021, 01:08:32 AM
Your kernel log looks fine by the glance of it.
Phil already noted that your unit is only active for 16h and you should wait for at least until 24h pass or even 48h to get a solid average.

Your rejection and HW is not that high but it would be better if it was lower. Rejection can be due to high ping while HW are due to too high overclock and/or too low voltage.
33  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy, sell, HODL? on: January 25, 2021, 01:04:20 AM
Bitcoin and other coins dropping a LOT today... what are y'all thinking here? Buy, sell, HODL?

Depends on your position, plans and goals.
If you are like me and already have solid amount of crypto, then sell when you are in profit if you need money and HODL as long as you can - Bitcoin is here to stay, and it's price right now is irrelevant comparing to what it was a few years ago and what it will be in a few years.

35  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's reason for pumping btc price? on: January 19, 2021, 12:32:24 AM
Can you tell what reason?
You should know Bitcoin is known to everyone in the world, only a few remote villages do not know Bitcoin.

Media around the world already know about Bitcoin.

And you should know that your statement is false. Not everyone knows about Bitcoin. In my country there is at least a dozen young (age of 16-25) and even more older (25-80) people who do not know anything about Bitcoin nor have they heard about it. And of all the people around me who know about Bitcoin, they hardly know basics about it.

And keep in mind that I do not live in "remote village".

Bitcoin is great, and it will be future of money. And it is true that current price spike is almost 100% due to big companies investing into it, shortage of supply while demand is skyrocketing (as others have noted this already). Media did help with bull run, but it wasn't the sole reason. Additionally, COVID helped push Bitcoin even further as well, as a lot of people were sitting home and having nothing else to do. A lot of free time for research, more exposure to TV and time on internet was all caused by COVID.
36  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: January 18, 2021, 08:37:37 PM
I'm in the northeast USA.

I'd consider buying them, but if they are partially working it may be better for you to limp along with them while profitability is as high as it is now. Guess that depends on how often the 5 sometimes working hashboards go down.

Let's say that two out of five hashboards work every 10th try if miner is preheated and other three hashboards work every 3rd try if miner is preheated. If they are not preheated, there is maybe like 5% that 2 of them will work rest will not work at all if atmosphere temperature is under 25C.

Sadly as RRZP028 noted, shipping from Serbia to China or USA is way too expensive for anything that is heavy.

I am from Serbia as well which means I might be in need of your recently acquired skills RRZP028. Smiley

I have 2 units that are sometimes working, sometimes not. S17 Pro and S17+. One has dead hashboard (exactly one loose heatsink) while all 5 other hashboards sometimes work. Where are you from and would you try to repair them or want to buy 'em out?

Not sure if this is their official twitter, but it seems they are doing a giveaway of coupons. Might be some new sellers coming in soon. Just a heads up if this is legit.

They are doing survey "with 10 random people getting 100 USD coupons". I did the survey anyway. If I get the coupon, I will be contacting you for sale. Smiley
